13 | Sneaking out of a party with a hunter
Loud music blasted through Jungkook's ears, drumming even in his chest. Consecutive rock songs were playing on repeat, the crowd screaming on top of their lungs as drinks were being spilled on the dirtied floor.
All of them were having the fun of their lives except for Jungkook who couldn't stop sending snide glares at Hoseok for dragging him to a place like this. It was outrageous - attending a concert full of mortals and other creatures whose job was to either have some fun with the petty humans or simply kill them by the end of this jamboree.
Most of the attendants were teens or college students, red-eyed and trashed, tipsy smiles prancing across their usually frown-ridden faces. The girls wore skimpy dresses that hugged the curves of their well-defined bodies, while the guys had their sleeves rolled to the elbows, the first two buttons of their shirts set free to expose their masculine chests.
Jungkook felt like gagging at the awful smell of alcohol that literally poisoned the air. If it hadn't been for Hoseok to choose his outfit for the event, he would've come up dressed in the most snobbish way possible. Instead of wearing his perfectly ironed black shirt and long coat, he had put on a t-shirt with an obnoxious print for the front and a leather jacket that honestly looked pretty good on him, especially with the way it displayed his broad shoulders.
His raven hair that was usually curly at the ends was now slicked back, steel earrings dangling from his ears. In all honestly, Jungkook couldn't understand the importance of 'fitting in'. Everyone was either too wasted or too stoned to take a notice of his dressing. He could bet that the bigger part of the auditory wouldn't have a clue of what'd happened that night.
"Remind me again," Jungkook turned up to Hoseok, eyebrows furrowed together in an obvious sign of annoyance. A random kid had nearly doused his shoes with beer - something the angel clearly didn't enjoy. "Why do we have to be here?"
The kitsune rolled his eyes, hips continuously swishing to the rhythm of the music. "Relax, okay?" he said nonchalantly, raising his cardboard cup of vodka to take a rather large sip. Jungkook's eyes rooted over the motion of his bobbling throat, wondering how someone could even like the cheap alcohol that they sold here. "You know, it'll be good if you take a break from all that 'chasing Taehyung' thing."
Jungkook didn't miss the opportunity to scoff at the fox's lame advice on how to stay relaxed and composed while his supposedly called 'lover' was out there on a hunt for monsters. "And you think this is going to help me?" He gestured at their surroundings.
Hoseok sighed exasperatedly and threw an arm over Jungkook's shoulders, leaning closer to whisper in his ear. "You see those girls over there," he pointed at the bevy of blonde ladies who, just like anyone else, enjoyed themselves in their impossibly tight skirts and danced carelessly to the loud tune. "I'm one hundred percent sure they're vampires. Can you guess what I know about vampire girls?" Jungkook shook his head in dismiss. "They absolutely love ancient and handsome guys like you."
The angel was quick to push Hoseok off himself. "The answer is no," he said without hesitation.
"Then what about the bunch of werewolf guys?" The fox wriggled his brows suggestively, gaze darting to the small circle of buff men whose boisterous invocations honestly gave Jungkook a headache.
The angel scrunched his nose in utter disgust, hardly ignoring the sense of hatred that quickly built up in his chest at the thought of those hairy beasts. "I hate werewolves. No." He denied instantly the stupid proposition, this time not thinking twice before answering.
The luster of hope in Hoseok's eyes completely vanished after having his idea rejected for a second time. "Fuck you, man," he shook his head in disappointment but to Jungkook it was marginally. "Then why don't you try with a human? You seem to only have eyes for them."
At that, Jungkook's blood rushed to his cheeks. "I don't want to have..." he paused mid-sentence, looking around frantically in case someone overheard their conversation. "Intercourse."
"It's called sex, Jungkook," The fox amended, speaking so freely as if talking about such intimate things was practically normal. "I get that you're more than one thousand years old but please, stop being so old fashioned and start using the today's language."
The angel gritted his teeth, heat was still potent in the tips of his ears. "Fine," he grumbled, "I don't want to have sex." He nearly chocked over the immodest choice of wording, not at all that used to the present jargon.
Back in the past topics like sex were considered a taboo. To Jungkook it was still very impressive how open up people had become about such personal things as to what happened behind the doors of their bedrooms.
"Don't you have any libido left in you?" Hoseok prodded him in the chest as if deep down was hidden an unpresented demon of lust and temptation that just waited for the right moment to be released from his long-lasting imprisonment.
Jungkook's eyes rolled on their own volition. "It's none of your business to mess in my interests," he swatted Hoseok's hand away.
The fox regarded him with reprimand before chugging down the last remnants of alcohol in his cup. "Fine then," he crushed the cardboard in his grasp. "I'll stop bargaining with you about being a total prude and grab another drink."
Just before Jungkook could start complaining about Hoseok's rather offending statement he saw him retreating in the mass of sweaty bodies, nearly losing it because there was no way in fucking hell for the fox to leave him alone in the midst of this chaos.
He started looking around frantically in hopes of spotting the kitsune's bundle of caramel hair, nibbling on his bottom lip anxiously as the laughs of those around him became louder and louder by the second. On those rare occasions where Jungkook would allow himself to loiter near local clubs and pubs, he'd never been left on his own. And to say that he wasn't uncomfortable amongst the crowds of mortals would be the biggest lie ever.
"Hello, stranger," a manicured hand panned over his shoulder, startling him.
Jungkook turned around almost immediately to see who it was, freezing at the sight of crimson red eyes and sickly pale complexion. It didn't take him long to recognize the creature before him - a vampire.
Her ash-blonde hair reached the length of her supple waist while flashy red dress was framing her delicate figure. No one could doubt the beauty that vampires were endowed with. Though, the scarily long canines and appalling red irises were one huge minus, especially for someone like Jungkook who preferred to stay out of trouble and not mess with those blood suckers.
"Want to join my company?" Her tone was positively seductive, eyes glinting with lust.
Oh, this four-tailed bastard is so done.
"I was just about to go, actually- "Jungkook tried to pry her hands off himself, purposely taking a step back to avoid proximity.
The vampire, though, wasn't alone and within seconds there was another body pressed against his. The angel's blood drained out of his body upon feeling the press of soft lips against his nape. He almost tripped over himself at his attempt to escape the vampire's vicinity. This one had her hair tied in a messy bun; red lipstick that could be mistaken for blood was smudged over her mouth.
"It's not even late," she said in a pout, going over her friend to wrap an arm around her shoulder. "We can have some fun before you go- "
"Okay, ladies," a familiar voice cut through the air, causing both vampires to switch their gazes from Jungkook to the person standing right behind him. "This one is mine for the night."
The angel felt a pair of hands coil around his elbow, squeezing tightly. He didn't have to sneak a peek of the intruder to know who it was, the velvety deep timbre of his voice was enough to tell him everything. Upon looking down, he saw Taehyung smiling sweetly at the two girls, not at all ashamed of the fact he'd just intervened in the scene. He just so happened to see the white bandages wrapped around his palms, which sparked a sense of concern within him.
"Who even are you?" The one in the red dress spoke, snorting, a frown was etched to her never aging features.
Taehyung simply chuckled at the question, pulled his coat to show the silver dagger stuffed in his garter belt, and that was enough to make them both shut up. The duo silently surrendered without making a fuss, but it was still too soon for Jungkook to let his guard down.
"What the hell was that?" He inquired, gazing at the hunter with genuine curiosity. Out of all possible places he hadn't expected to see Taehyung here.
The hunter rolled his eyes, the last vestiges of his sweet act were long gone. He let go of Jungkook's arm, offering him one of his infamous glares that never heralded anything good. "Saving your ass, of course," he huffed, hands crossing over his chest.
"Saving my ass?" The angel's brows raised up to his hairline, getting more and more confused as the time passed. While Taehyung appeared to be unbothered and collected, Jungkook was fuming with questions. "Just few days ago you poisoned me."
"Otherwise, you would've kept me locked inside that shitty room." The hunter contended, looking at Jungkook through tightly narrowed eyes.
The angel opened his mouth to retort, but when he found himself unable to think of an excuse, he closed it. Taehyung sighed wearily and took a hold of Jungkook's wrist, dragging him through the labyrinth of people. Again, his mind drifted to the presumingly bad injury, but he decided to let it slide for now.
"Where are we going?" Jungkook opted to ask but nonetheless chose to follow him. The feeling of holding hands with the hunter caused a frenzy of sparkles against the skin and the bones beneath.
"Someone will hear us," Taehyung explained, struggling to walk past all those tipsy teens. "We have to find a place that's not so crowded," he cursed after bumping into a random guy who was too high to even care about impeding their way. "God, why are you even here? I didn't think you were a party person."
"I'm not," Jungkook muttered, cautious of the band of ferocious werewolves they were currently passing by.
Taehyung looked over his shoulder, eyed him from head to toes, and then commented. "Doesn't look like that."
Jungkook swore for a second time tonight to kill Hoseok after getting out of that shitty situation. He felt ridiculous of the fact that he had dressed as a total punk instead of opting for an outfit that matched with his own style. "It was my friend that made me come here." His cheeks flushed pink.
"Let me guess, the fox?" Taehyung asked, fortunately not paying attention to the blush that literally adored the entirety of his face.
"Yeah, the fox," he hummed.
They continued to walk in silence until the loud blast of music and rumble of voices could no longer be heard. Once they ceased their pace, Taehyung released his hold around Jungkook's wrist, shoving his wounded hand back in the pocket of his long coat.
"So..." the angel trailed off, gaze darting to the far end of the alley and landing back on Taehyung. "Why did you drag me here?" There was no biting in his tone, just perplexity.
"Questions," the hunter responded curtly, teeth tugging on his lower lip. He seemed to be nervous given the way he changed his weight from one foot to other.
"Oh, we're back on the interrogating part." Jungkook thought out loud, leaning with his back against the cold wall of the building block, never looking away from Taehyung.
"The things written in that diary..." the hunter exhaled, kicking a small rock. "Is it real? Are you this Jungkook?"
"What do you mean by 'this Jungkook'?" albeit not directed at him, it was still strange to hear his name leave Taehyung's lips for the first time in centuries. Perhaps the only difference was that this time he didn't pronounce it with the saturated love and kindness the angel had grown to adore. "Is there someone else- "
"Is it real?" The hunter insisted, ignoring Jungkook's question as if it had never been uttered.
The angel stayed quiet for a few seconds before answering with a truthful 'yes'.
"Okay," Taehyung inhaled, walked around in small circles as if unable to remain on the same spot. "Let's move to the next question," he changed directions, pinning his sapphire blue eyes on Jungkook. "Are you stalking me?"
"What? No!" The angel sounded so sure that Taehyung felt stupid for bringing this up. "I told you already, it was my friend's idea to come to that party."
"Okay, okay! You don't have to be so riled up- "
"Are you stalking me?" Jungkook blurted out, surprising the hunter.
"O-of course not!" Taehyung stuttered, unintentionally tucking a strand of hair behind his ear, the action a little too suspicious. "I'm on a mission tonight, you know. Someone has to take care of those monsters."
"Yeah..." Jungkook didn't have to read Taehyung's mind to know he was lying to him. "Thought so," he mumbled, remembering the bandages wrapped around the blonde's palms. Rolling his tongue over his lips, he pushed himself off the wall just slightly. "What's happened to your hands, by the way?"
It took Taehyung a moment to understand what Jungkook was asking him before finally assimilating the question. As if on cue he glanced at his fingers that were swathed in bandages, a small, breathy 'oh' escaping him at the reminder.
"It's nothing," He waved it off, neck craned to the other direction in order to avoid eye contact.
The angel studied him, surveying his body for any other signs of trouble, and when he didn't find any, he treated to speak again. "Let me see," he said softly, tone lacing with gentleness similar to the one that reflected in his dark orbs.
"There is seriously nothing to- "Taehyung couldn't even finish because Jungkook was already coming up to him, reaching for his hand.
The hunter's mouth closed shut as he ever so carefully picked up the injured limb, touching it with so much tenderness as if it could break under the force of something more severe.
"I want to help," Jungkook spoke in a whisper, a welcoming warmth was seeping out of those beseeching black eyes. It was though the angel was giving him his promise to never betray him. The inexplicable urge to trust in those eyes was consuming every part of the hunter's being, telling him to dive in little known waters despite the danger that awaited at the bottom.
Taehyung wondered how a person with powers so ruinous and unfettered like Jungkook's could behold so much kindness in himself.
"O-okay," he conceded, gulping, not having the sufficient willpower to look away from the angel's face.
Ever so slowly Jungkook started removing the bandages on his hands, expression visibly darkening at the odious sight of so many wounds and small cuts that littered the delicate skin there. He had copious of minor burns that would probably take some time before healing completely.
Raw anger bubbled in the pits of Jungkook's stomach, the usually calm side of his personality now giving place to the barbaric emotion that rage was.
"Who did this to you?" He breathed heavily, barely managing to keep his voice steady.
Taehyung refused to answer, offering him an insouciant shrug instead.
Jungkook's jaw clenched, shoulders beginning to shake imperceptibly with resentment. "Taehyung- "
"Fire witches," the hunter responded, inaudibly, the words getting brewed in his throat as something shy scuttled along his facial features. "One of them casted a curse on me."
Eyes fluttering shut, Jungkook took in a few stimulating breaths in hopes of reducing the rapid pace of his heart to the bare minimum. When he was no longer seeing everything in red, he proceeded to speak. "Let me heal you," it didn't come out as a plea but an order, demanding and undeniable.
A moment of consideration and then the hunter nodded his head in silent agreement.
The angel's lips twitched in a tiny smile, barely even there to remove his frown, and before Taehyung knew it, he'd started chanting words under his nose. The foreign language that only dark angels spoke, so ancient and distant to the ear. As he skidded his gaze to his damaged hands, he saw how all the scars and wounds disappeared under the will of the spell.
Once Jungkook was done, he daintily let go, the featherlike touch of his fingers still lingering on Taehyung's skin. The hunter gaped in slight awe as he contemplated the miracle that had just happened before him. There wasn't a single trace of the previous injuries, the uncomfortable ache he felt whenever he had to move his fingers was now gone, as if it had never been there in the first place.
Slowly peering up at him, Taehyung released a small squek of excitement, "Let's meet again!"
