The Distance Between

It had been a good amount of time after the revelation of (Y/N)'s true self. Link had become a little distant from the girl because of that fact that she hid such a great secret from him. It pained him really. He had feelings for the girl but he had no idea if he could trust (Y/N) anymore. The two were unknowingly growing apart day by day...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

"Link?" I spoke softly, quieting my pace as I approached the blonde male sitting on a large stone. He sat quietly, only moving his arm to continuously throw the never-ending amount of pebbles that lay by the riverside.

I stood behind him only hearing the sound of water being hit by the impact of the pebble. Midna yawned as usual, floating around the blue-eyed male. People say silence is golden, but I beg to differ. All of this was not like Link. All of his evasions...I couldn't take this anymore.

"Link?" I asked again, persisting to get his full attention. I needed to speak thoroughly with him, but how could I do that if couldn't even look at me?

"Link--"

"What do you want?"

His voice was harsh and biting. I watched as his body tensed and his fist clenched as his free hand grabbed, not one, but a handful of pebbles.

"Can we talk?" I responded softly, not wanting to anger him even more than I already have.

"Talking would have been so much better earlier in the journey, don't ya think?" he spat back coldly.

"Yes, yes it would have."

"Then?" he snapped back, finally showing me his angered face. His pupils dilated at the sight of me and his eyebrows furrowed deeply. The grip on the pebbles was slowly starting to tremble.

"Please, calm down," I spoke as my face remained stoic and calm hiding my true emotions.

"Calm down? C-CALM D-DOWN?!?" Link started to stutter and yell at the same time but failed to do so. Anyone could see that he was trying to fight back tears. The shimmering of his eyes in the moonlight, and the bit of water nearing the edge of his eyes were all too obvious.

I reached out my hand to touch his shoulder but it was violently swatted away. The tears had finally escaped his eyes and my own tears were fighting with me to escape. There was a lump in my throat, as if something was suffocating me. My chest hurt uncontrollably; it was like I couldn't breath. I looked up at the sky to stop my tears from falling.

My reverted my gaze back to my hand where a small red mark was slowly forming. My (e/c) eyes were now reluctant to look at his. Midna had left awhile ago and I'm sure she would've said something to Link during this situation, but it was just him and me.

Link brought his head to the side and looked to the ground, his blonde bangs sweeping over his innocent face to cover his eyes.

"D-don't touch me...you witch..." he whispered silently, almost inaudibly.

Was I phased by this? Nope. Not at all. Over the years spent at Castle Town, I was already accustomed to ignorant citizens calling my family witches or demons.

"...I...I..." Link continued, his voice descending to an even softer tone, "...I hate you. Just leave."

My eyes blinked profusely at his sudden words. Did he really just say that?

"What?"

"Do I need to repeat myself?" he hissed as he brought his head up to look at my gaze once again. His eyes were no longer blue, but the color of a golden orange. It was then that it hit me...he was being controlled by the dark magic of the weapon. The pebbles disintegrated in his grip.

Because of Link's weakness the past couple of weeks, the weapon had gradually been able to take over his poor body. But...that was the plan, wasn't it? To have Link convert so that I could manipulate him and take the fused shadows?

It all seemed so fool-proof back then, but now that the time had actually come...it all seemed like a bad idea. Link was truly a strong warrior but not strong enough. Perhaps, if I give him time to think, the darkness will slowly subside.

"No," I replied. I turned away, holding my cold expression once more, "And if that is what you wish, Link, then so be it."

I left Link to himself and traveled deep into the woods and, of course, not forgetting to grab the fused shadows on my way to the Twilight Realm.

Third Person P.O.V.

Little did (Y/N) know, as soon as she left the young knight to himself, he instantly collapsed.

"Link! Link!" Midna yelled as she shook her human companion awake. She had been watching the entire conversation between the two and was immediately shocked when she saw Link collapse.

Unluckily for her, she was too far to see the transformation in Link that (Y/N) saw moments ago...

The blonde's eyes finally fluttered open, revealing his innocent blue eyes. Link suddenly placed his hand to his head rubbing his temples as he felt a severely massive headache going on.

"What happened?" Link asked completely oblivious to the heated conversation he had with (Y/N). "I remember hearing her call my name and then suddenly, I blanked out." The male said quite confused.

"EH?" Midna questioned in shock, surprised that the boy couldn't remember the harsh things he did. "You blanked out? You looked perfectly intact to me, wolf-boy."

Link looked around, still very much confused by Midna and her words.

"Where's (Y/N)?" he questioned. Link was very much still upset with the girl but he decided that they should have a very deep conversation to clear the air.

Link looked at Midna who suddenly had a solemn look on her imp-like features. For once in his entire journey, Link saw Midna with a look of despair. The look of cockiness and confidence had left her.

"You sent her away."

"I WHAT?"

Midna brought her tiny fingers and pointed in the direction in which the (h/c) girl had left. Link immediately sprang up from his spot and called out for (Y/N), still hoping that she wasn't too far.

"(Y/N)! (Y/N)!" He yelled through the cups of his hands hoping to project his voice even louder. "What else did I say?" Link said frantically.

Midna hesitated but finally spoke, "You said that...you hated her..."

Link stopped in his tracks finally realizing that (Y/N) truly did leave. Link furiously threw his hand at a nearby tree and sobbed to himself. He began to regret ignoring the girl for so long. He never lost his feelings for her, he just needed the time to think and the day he had finally decided to do so, he made a terrible mistake.

"What have I done, Midna?" he said through tears as Midna returned a sad gaze to him. "I guess I deserve this, huh? Link said as he forced on a smile through his flowing tears.

"A person like me doesn't deserve someone like her."
