Everything That Was

The Kingdom of Hyrule was under reconstruction and renovation as a few Twili offered their assistance, thanks to their ruler, Midna, of course.

A boy with ragged clothes and unkempt hair carried a basket of fish from the lake within Ordon Village to the ranch. The emotions from two years ago still ached within his heart, but he did his best everyday to stay strong because he knew that she would've wanted him to do so.

"I'll catch another fish for your dinner tonight, Link!" the father (L/N) said as he waved a hand to the blonde haired boy. The mother (L/N) was out of the village, buying a few things at Castle Town.

"Sounds good, Mister (L/N)!" Link yelled across from the basket that rested atop his shoulder. "I look forward to it!"

The parents moved to Ordon Village after losing their daughter being as the village was the place she occupied during her predominant wolf days. They had fixed up the building where the bugs containing the tears of light used to roam and made that their area of living. It was of their daily routine to go fishing and have recreational time to themselves. They too, could never forget the feelings of the past, but stayed strong to move on.

Link entered into the ranch where the animals roamed, giving the fish to the ranch owner and started to wander around the fields, caring and tending to the animals. Every so often, Caeus would appear to help if he wasn't so busy with his own tasks in the world of Twilight.

When Link finished his tasks, he went home for the day, a freshly cooked fish, along with other foods bought from Castle Town, were set before him by the (L/N) parents before they went to their own home for the night.

Link always remembered to thank the parents the next morning after eating the food. He always remembered his thanks and was still the humble villager he was before the journey he had went on. He didn't want to relive the days when he caused (Y/N) trouble and pain.

He wanted to relive the happy moments they had together even when he knew he couldn't. But her memory would always be with him through the pendant given to him. Link remembered the first time he stumbled upon (Y/N) in wolf form. He and Midna needed the tear and it was on (Y/N)'s pendant. She reluctantly gave it to them, but she had somehow managed to receive another one just like it.

Link sat by the ladder of his tree home, having his legs dangle just above. Epona grazed upon the grass, but took a moment to look at her owner and the pendant he held in his hand.

The pendant swung back and forth as the moonlight shot through the tear. Epona let out a soft neigh as she too remembered the wolf who had accompanied them along the journey.

"The Elina pack sure was an interesting name, wasn't it?" Link said to no one in particular, eyes still admiring the pendant. "It feels like yesterday since I lost you. It always feels like that day."

He gently placed the pendant into his palm and closed it, as if keeping the pendant warm.

"Sometimes, I feel as if you're near, (Y/N). I feel as if your presence is always right beside me."

He continued to hold the pendant in his palm as he stared into the moon. His mind would sometimes play tricks on him and he would visualize the same girl he knew, with a pet wolf just beside her that looked just like her own wolf form. The image would appear every so often, and he'd feel like it was smiling at him, telling him everything was okay. But as soon as he attempted a second glance, the image would disappear.

"But it's but a memory now."

The breeze blew through the night sky and the air became cold, yet warm at the same time. It was a comfortable sensation that Link felt every now and then as well.

"It's time I go to bed," Link whispered to the moon, and to the image that disappeared, "Maybe I'll see you again tomorrow night."

Link placed the precious trinket just below his pillow and dozed off. A wind traveled through his room and moved in a graceful motion.

The thing about this wind was that it was a bluish white color. The wind flew towards Link and hovered just above to observe the sleeping figure. The wind let out a soft howl and traveled to the spring waters, where the spirit, Faron, rested peacefully.

The wind formed into a wolf once reaching the edge of the spring and went to the girl petting Faron. The wolf spirit nuzzled itself against her human counterpart who only smiled in return.

"It's good to know he's doing well ever since then. Right, Alevina?" (Y/N) ran her fingers through the wolf's fur as she looked into the distance, seeing Link's tree just above the others.

Her human and wolf form were split into two separate spirits when she removed the dark magic from Link that day. But even so, the two were still the same person.

"There's nothing we can do now, but to continue to watch over everyone." (Y/N) formed a warm smile on her face and looked just past the bridge.

"At least everyone and everything seems to be fine. Let's go." (Y/N) and her wolf blended into the wind and traveled into the night sky, just above the clouds until the next time they would visit.

"Did you see them again, dear?" a mother asked her child as he sat in awe, paintbrush in hand. He nodded and drew another stroke onto the easel.

The mother would've scolded her son for always being up so late just to have the opportunity to witness the two figures, whom she actually never saw herself, but the child was intent with the art he was painting.

"Look, Ma, it's finally complete." Colin picked up the easel after allowing the paint to dry and showed it to his mother. She looked at the painting with its intricately painted glows around the two centered people, amazed by how artistically inclined her son was.

He had started the painting just about two years ago. Colin was allowed to stay at Link's place for the night when he managed to see the two figures in the moon. Their images were brief, fleeting, and he wanted a way to somehow capture it.

The mother placed her hands on her son's shoulders, looking intently. She felt as if she had seen the images before. "You know, I think there used to be a wolf that lived just in these parts that looked just like that one."

"Really, Ma?" Colin said, eyes bright. "Do you know if it's still there?"

"I don't know, Colin. It's time you go to bed. Perhaps you could ask your friend Link tomorrow. He may know something being that he lives near the woods."

The boy slept and morning came. He jumped from his bed, grabbing his painting, and made his way towards Link's tree. And luckily for him, Link hadn't left yet. Link was just leaning against the fence of his home, looking at the view.

"Hi, Link!" the boy waved with his free hand.

The older boy returned a smile and climbed down the ladder to meet Colin. The painting in his hand, which was facing the other way, caught Link's attention.

"What's that you have there, Colin?"

The younger boy beamed and turned the painting around to show the image of the girl and her wolf to Link whose eyes widened in shock and surprise, but in good shock and surprise.

"How -- where -- who are they, Colin?" he asked, pretending to be oblivious.

"I've seen them occasionally for the past two years, the girl and her wolf. And my mom said maybe you knew the wolf?" the little boy responded.

Link took a seat by the stump of the tree and indicated for the little boy to sit next to him.

"So you see them too, huh, Colin," Link ruffled the boy's hair as he laughed.

"So you do know them?" the boy asked with much curiosity and excitement. "You've seen them, or at least the wolf, around these parts?"

"Well," Link started softly, "I did use to see them, both the girl and the wolf." Link looked at Colin to see his little eyes large with wonder. "Sit still because it's time I tell you a story, Colin."

Link spent the rest of the day telling Colin his adventures with girl and the wolf. He told the little boy about all the mysteries and magic of the two. Of their grace and beauty.

And everyday, whenever Colin would have the chance, he would come visit Link to continue their little story time and when night fell upon Ordon, the two would watch the moon for the sights of the girl and her wolf.

"You know, Colin," Link said as he looked into the moonlight, waiting for them, "there's something I've been leaving out from all my stories."

The boy looked to Link and back to the moon, but listened intently. "What is it?"

"That girl and the wolf we always see? They actually were one person, back when I used to see them alive."

The last word caught Colin's utmost attention. "You mean that they're...?" Colin, being young, really had no idea that what he was looking at were actually spirits. He thought maybe it was some sort of magic or something mystical, but never really spirits.

"That's right, Colin. Her name was (Y/N), alpha of the Elina pack..." His voice trailed off as the image started to form. A warmth filled the pit of Link's stomach and Colin's eyes started to shimmer.

The image of (Y/N) and her wolf filled the moon, and this time, instead of being a still image with just a smile, the figures looked directly at Link and Colin and waved at them, the wolf howling along.

"...saviour of Hyrule...," Link continued.

"...and my first love."

Fine
