A Piece of History
Caeus's P.O.V.
"YOU WHAT?" (Y/N) screamed, eyes ready to pop out as she furiously ran a hand through her (h/c) hair with Midna trying to calm her nerves. The scene itself was quite comical in the sense because before, Midna was so angered with (Y/N), but now it seemed they were on friendly terms. "That wasn't part of the plan, Caeus," she started to pace back and forth, kicking around small pebbles on the floor, "How in the world did you even lose consciousness? I didn't even give you a strenuous task."
I sat on a log, with legs crossed, keeping my calm composure. I was only asked to have Link view the old necklace in some way, not faint and become weak to have him feel sorry for me. But one thing that (Y/N) didn't know that her parents did, was that I was looking for the pages. So far, I have found three -- the one from Skull Kid's platform, the second from the graveyard in Kakariko, and a third from the Hidden Village. And the third was what fatigued me the most considering all the enemies that lay hidden in the village populated by mainly cats.
But if something like that fatigued me, what more would trying to find the pages in the final three locations? My time is limited to only four more days. And the possibility that the last two will take more than one day is very high.
Not realizing that my thoughts had drifted, I was met my (Y/N)'s stern glare with eyes that could pierce one's soul if she actually wanted to. She had the magic. And she was very much capable.
"You didn't hear a word I said, huh?" She sighed and took a seat on the space next to me and smacked my shoulder. "While you were off dreaming, I asked if Link saw the necklace."
I pulled the two chains from my cloak and let them dangle. "Depends which one you're asking about, (Y/N)."
In the distance, Midna yawned, reflecting (Y/N)'s own feelings of boredom. "Well, if you weren't here right now, he obviously would have seen the special one we gave you," (Y/N) said, "I was talking about the memorabilia one, the one you got from Link the first time you two met at the ranch."
Ah, yes. That necklace. It was a necklace crafted from Ordon materials. Link had gifted it to me after assisting him at the ranch. It was a token of our friendship even though I never met him afterwards because of the situation between the Twilight and the normal world. I promised I would see him again, and I did, but he was already in his new Twili state.
"He did, (Y/N). And before I left, he seemed to be having an internal battle with himself."
A smug look appeared on her face which was something one wouldn't see too often from her. "So he took the bait. Hook, line, and sinker. Great."
I took a better inspection at her face and something seemed a bit off. A small part of her showed that she wanted to stop Link, but another part said something I could not determine. It was an emotion I was unfamiliar with. And then a thought came to mind. This family was clearly important to Link, or of some sort of high value. It also seemed that (Y/N) and Link had some very close ties with each other. Just what exactly were those ties? Would now be the right time to ask?
"Caeus, I know you want to ask me something," (Y/N) said as she picked at a piece of bark sticking up from the log. "I can feel and see it in your face. It must be something important if I can feel its radiance."
I didn't know if I was qualified to ask such a question and I didn't know if she would answer the question off the bat or maybe twist her words so that it was a riddle. But I'm prolonging this, and it seemed that Midna and (Y/N) were planning to head out for some target practice with Link's minions very soon.
"What exactly is your relationship with Link?"
Instead of her expression faltering, she kept a stoic face and looked into the falls. She stood up and walked over and let the water fall along her fingertips. "As simple as things get, Caeus, let's just say we had feelings for each other, but I kept secrets from him and he couldn't handle it so he turned into the person he is today." She stopped and I was going to speak when she interrupted. "I know, I know. I'm a bad person for not telling him. He called me a witch, but I dealt with it. I mean, I've been called that before. It was normal."
It was then, when her voice started to falter. The fingers started to sway back and force under the water of the falls. Her voice seemed like it was starting to crack. I saw her posture go into a slump before she took a breath and stood up straight again.
"I was already used to it, you know? I've heard it about a million times throughout the centuries my family and I have been living in. I grew accustomed to it. But why were Link's words any different? Am I a witch, Caeus?"
The question was meant as a rhetorical one, so I remained silent. I knew were this would be going so I would wait and wait.
"I fell for him, Caeus. I fell for Link. Something about him was different. I just..."
Her words stopped after that as she took a sitting position. She cupped some water in her hands and splashed it against her face as if washing away any signs of her sorrow and the state she had just been in.
So the two had feelings for each other. And it was quite apparent they still did, even when one party was trying to defeat the other. It all made sense as to why Link never wanted us to harm or go near this family. It made sense as to why he wanted me to watch over them.
"Ha, I'm pathetic, aren't I?" (Y/N) said with a smile with remnants of water still on her face, "I'm a powerful being who let a mortal affect her like this. I'm such an idiot."
"There's nothing wrong with having feelings, (Y/N). It's only natural. Powerful being or not, we all feel emotions now and then."
She smiled again before taking her sword. She called Midna and they were about ready to head out. No one would ever tell that she had been crying or sad. "Thank you, Caeus," were the last things she said as she left the grove. And they were probably the last words I'd hear from her until the day she travels to the Twilight realm to defeat Link. Only the Hylian goddesses knew how long I would take looking for the last three pages.
(Y/N)'s silhouette disappeared from site. I looked at the necklace the family had given to me and my hand wrapped around it.
I wonder if (Y/N) knew that acting the way she did earlier would've been the perfect bait for Link. He would've instantly given in seeing such emotions from someone he cared deeply for. Hopefully, the result of all this won't have bad consequences so that the two will reconcile, but a gut feeling still remains within the pit of my chest.
It still lingers and hasn't disappeared. Finding these pages isn't helping the feeling either. The three parts I have offer no help whatsoever. The only legible part was on the first piece. Other than that, I couldn't read a single thing. The parents were not in sight, most presumably out buying food for them to eat so I couldn't ask them. The grove was silent except for the usual falls. Skull Kid was no where in site as well. I already played his game with his wooden puppets so he was most likely taking a break.
I left the grove, knowing Skull Kid would take great care of grove, and set out to the next place to find the fourth piece. And that place was the manor at Snow Peak. The place was already damaged due to its age, but the Yetis that occupied it were obviously still watching over the place. The question now was, where exactly would the next page be?
I teleported to the peak and passed the area where the snowboarding-like activity was held. With the very few days I had left, there was no time for games... I say that now but I always played Skull Kid's game. I'm rather contradictory.
I walked with quiet steps and pushed the large doors open to be greeted by a dimly lit structure with several ice sculptures and platforms. As predicted, the place was in ruins. A poe revealed itself from behind a sculpture but I stopped it with a blast of magic. Its blue figure dissipated into thin air leaving a purplish round pit. I picked it up and examined it.
Perhaps it could be of some use?
I conducted a magic spell and looked into the poe's soul and used it as a map and scanned the vicinity for anything that looked like a missing piece to the spell page, and sure enough, I found the location. Tucked under a red bench, in a place that resembled a chapel, I saw the piece of paper. The room was empty and the paper looked too easy within reach.
Something was off.
Something was skeptical.
Keeping my guard up, I transported to the room full of red benches, keeping watch on my surroundings. There was another force here and I could feel it. I just didn't know where it was coming from. As quickly and carefully as I could, I grabbed the piece of paper and tucked it within my cloak, and at that moment, a strange ice soldier popped out of no where. One by one, they spawned and all their spears pointed towards me. I would be a goner if I didn't solve my way out of this mess. And I would be a goner if the most recent group of troops sent out by Link found me in this desolate location.
The figures began to charge and I was ready to face them head on when a white blast and a large almost transparent hand knocked the sculptures to and fro. Of course, I helped with the remaining creatures, but they just seemed to respawn.
"Never figured we'd see you here, Caeus."
Of course. Who else would it be? A white blast and the large almost transparent hand belonged to two people I knew well and enjoyed their target practice...
"Sources say Link's minions will be here in a bit, so I suggest you run. We'll discuss more later."
(Y/N) and Midna.
Obliging, I ducked and ran past the sculptures until I made it out the room and back into the main part of the manor. Checking to make sure the page was not damaged, I removed it from my cloak and sighed.
Four down, two to go.
I was lucky to have assistance this time, but with the remaining two pieces...
Let's just say I hope I'll find them in time.
