"Girls, hurry up! Last one to leave, don't forget to turn the lights off!" – One of the class representatives yelled before leaving the locker room.
Most girls that were still inside also hurried out so they wouldn't be late for P.E class.
Mia wasn't one of them.
"You should go, you're going to be late because of me." – Kira said, already feeling apologetic.
"It's alright! They'd probably make us run a few laps around the court as punishment...it's P.E time anyway so I don't see a problem." – Mia replied with a careless smile.
"Hannie wouldn't like to see you getting a punishment." – The girl spoke quietly, although still audible.
Mia raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "'Hannie'?"
"Ah." – Kira finished tying her shoelaces and looked up. "It's out of habit, sorry."
She became noticeably more confused.
"Oh. Me and him actually knew each other before you introduced us that day at the library." – She sighed before continuing. "...but as you could probably tell, he didn't want anyone to know. So, please act like you don't know."
Mia stared at her for a few seconds. Their interactions were very suspicious and she figured something had happened, but since none of them talked about it, Mia wouldn't be the first to mention it.
It was different now, though, Kira started the matter.
"Did you two perhaps...?"
"Dated? Yeah." – Kira let out a weak smile. "But don't worry! We won't ever be together again! He thinks I cheated on him."
Mia's eyes became bigger. "You cheated?!"
"No! I said he thinks that. It's a long story, why don't we go to class first?" – She got up and walked towards the door, making sure her friend was following her.
Once they arrived, everyone was already lined up in front of the teacher, listening to the instructions. The two girls stopped when all eyes were on them, even the teacher's.
"Sorry, we're late." – Mia spoke and they bowed.
"Run around the court until I finish explaining the activity for the ones who got here on time." – The male teacher glared at them.
"Yes, sir!" – They yelled before starting to run.
When the teacher turned his back towards them again, Mia and Kira changed their fast run to a light jog.
"So? What happened? How does he think you cheated? Did you not talk?" – Mia asked, a little uneasy.
As much as she liked Jisung, it would be a problem if he was the type that doesn't listen.
"You know I'm a trainee, right?" – She nodded. "Well, I really want to become a kpop idol." – Kira continued.
"Yeah, I know. You miss a lot of classes for performances." – Mia subtly laughed.
"Hm. And idols can't date, right?"
The puzzles were slowly starting to get pieced together, but it still didn't make sense.
"So you pretended to cheat? Why would you do that? Couldn't you just talk to him about it? That way you could still be friends...it looks like he hates you now." – Mia reasoned, now guilty about how she enjoyed it when he kicked Kira out from the infirmary.
Kira shook her head. "I wouldn't be able to. I'd want to get back with him. I've been training for 2 years now, my name's starting to get mentioned for future groups." – She stopped on her tracks, Mia did the same. "I couldn't throw my dream away for him. Even though my heart wanted him, I had to do what my brain told me to, so I wouldn't regret it."
Mia stood there, looking at her friend saying how much she loved her boyfriend.
But she wasn't mad.
If anything, she felt bad for Kira.
Since Mia wanted to be a show producer, she knew how the industry works, how public figures are almost like products meant to please the netizens.
But she didn't know about this side. About a teenager having to give up on her first love, her first boyfriend, to be able to continue her journey towards her dream.
One thing still bothered her, though.
"But do you, uh, still like him?" – She asked, a little hesitant.
"Hey! Go back to running! One more lap!" – The teacher yelled after turning back once he finished the explanation.
Without saying anything, they went back to 'running'.
"I know what you're thinking. I'm not doing this so you can pity me and break up with him. I'm doing this so you know that, as much as l do like him, I like being an idol more. Even if he asked me out, I'd say no." – Seeing how Mia was listening attentively, she kept on going. "I'm also saying this because I noticed I've been trying to get close to him again because of our project...so you can totally push me out if you see me doing so. Actually, please do!" – She laughed, but you could see she was being serious.
Mia let out a smile.
"I think you should tell him the truth. What if you debut and he becomes your biggest hater?" – They both chuckled. "But really, why don't you tell him? It'll be cool if we all can be friends. I'll be there when you tell him, so he doesn't misunderstand anything."
The girls stopped upon finishing the lap. "Are you sure?"
"Hm!"
