Chapter 9

Vihaan

Today was the day of my match. It is quite normal for me to play matches but today was a great deal for me because it was the first time Amyra is going to be by the stands and see me play. Playing football was a cup of tea for me but I don't like being overconfident about it. I sure had my matches when I lost and I take my failure as a lesson to make up for my mistakes and improve myself.

The match was at night. The team came in early for warm-up. Amyra called me and said she will be here in fifteen minutes and that was half an hour ago. I found myself looking at the entrance while stretching. Aayush and the others were here and saved up seats in the front row. I tipped him to come early and save seats in the front row for Amyra, Twisha, and her cousin Kaira in case they are late.

Then there she was, the match was about to begin in ten minutes and the coach was giving us some last-minute preps and heads about our opponent. They are going to be hard to beat. I looked at her as she walks through the stands. She pulls her ear and mumbles sorry. That's fine. Her presence was enough. She gets seated at the seats Aayush had saved for them. My teammates dispersed drinking water and some were still stretching when the coach calls me.

"I know you can do it, Vihaan." He says with his head up. I was one of his favorite players. He was always driving me to improve and had high hopes for me. I will not let him down.

"Yes sir."

"That's why you are the captain."
I smile at the coach and get back to the teammates. The match is about to begin.

Amyra

I got ready early. I didn't want to be late for Vihaan's first match. Kaira and Twisha took time to dress up saying Hum pahuch jaayenge. Time hai. We can reach early but not late and that's what happened. There was so much traffic. In Mumbai, you should always be prepared for traffic anytime. It can be three in the night. Doesn't matter. This city never sleeps. When we reached the ground, I spot Aayush by the stands in the first row as he waves his hands to me. We walk over to him and I saw Vihaan on the ground listening to the coach.

He looks over at me and I pull my ear telling him sorry. He smiles at me as if he was saying it's fine. Then he looks at his coach and nods his head mumbling something. Everyone scattered around and the coach was speaking to Vihaan alone. He smiled at him and then got back to his teammates. Kaira was seeing him for the first time and while I was talking to Vihaan through gestures. Twisha points at him telling her it was him I went on a date with.

"Amyra, Waah! Seriously how did you manage to get a guy like him?
*Ami thakle oke biye kore nitam." She says. I was thinking about it too. How did I manage to get lucky to find him? He is like the dream guy. The type of guy every girl wishes for.

"*Jaani." I blush looking back at him. The match started and I saw what everyone talked about. He was a beast in the ground. He was fully into the game but the highlights were when he sneaked glances at me in between and smiled.

The other team was strong too. They were giving quite a competition for them but I was captivated by him. He was a different level attractive now running in those shorts. Beads of sweat glistening under those lights. Sure, those scenes from Bollywood scenes do exist. Just look at him and you will get what I am talking about. The way he passed the ball and ran through the field. I liked football but now that I have seen him play, I love it.

Still, after everything, we were losing by 3 points and there were 4 mins in the clock. We needed one goal and we will win this. I crossed my fingers and the match resumed. Dhruv passed the ball to Vihaan who passes it to the other player when the opponent takes it from him is when Vihaan comes in a swoop taking the ball from him.
Everyone crossed their fingers as Vihaan had the ball. Our heartbeats raced due to nervousness. If we don't scare this goal, we lose.

He kicked the ball with all his energy and then our gaze shifts to the goal post and the goalkeeper missed it. I let out a sigh of relief.

"Goal." We all stood up and yelled. We won. We started cheering them up. Vihaan jumps in excitement and looks over at me. He winks and I smile at him but when one of the opponents who was running to defend loses control and crashes to him and they fall.

"Vihaan..." I yelled out loud. Dhruv comes running to him and helps him stand up and we get down to the field. He made him sit on the bench while the coach came in and congratulated him and left. We all surrounded him looking at him.

"Are you fine?" I was concerned because he was limping and blood came out from his knee and elbow. Aayush brought in the first aid box.

"I will do it." I took the first aid box from him and sat down beside Vihaan. Again, the others showed some eyes between each other and left one by one. I found this funny how every time they do this as if I don't know.

"It was nice seeing you. Probably we can talk next time." Kaira says to Vihaan."For sure. I am not going anywhere soon." Vihaan chuckles and she leaves smiling. She was the last one left so her leaving left us alone.

"Does it hurt?" I ask looking at the knees and elbow where blood was oozing out.

"No, I had broken my bone before. It's just a scratch. *Main Punjabi putar, mujhe dard nahi hota."
He shows his muscles off. I laugh at his comment and him pretending that it doesn't hurt. He places his knee on the bench and I kneel to clean the wound properly. I take out cotton and put some Savlon on it and as soon as I touch the cotton to his knee. He yelps.

"Okay, maybe it hurts a little."

"I know that, Punjabi putar hoon waala." I cleaned up the wound as he keeps making noises and winces in pain. I felt his heartbeat increasing every time I am close to him. His body reacted when I touched him. I apply some ointment and bandaged it up. Then I moved to his elbow.

"You did great out there."

"I am glad you think so." He smiles looking at me.

"But you should be careful." I can't keep bandaging him up. He might pretend it doesn't hurt but it does and I know that very well. Being a clumsy kid I used to trip often and scraped my knee. It's the worse kind of pain.

"They turned out to be better than I expected. I nearly thought we would lose." He says as he tries to pull my hand from cleaning the injury.

"I saw how you made your team win," I said. I don't know about the others because my eyes were on him the entire time and I saw him play. He is exceptionally good at it. It was a wonderful match.

"I guess you are my lucky charm then." I felt myself blushing at that. Charming.

"And done." I was done bandaging it up. Thankfully I paid attention to the First aid chapter in Biology in school. He pulls me closer to him and smiles looking at me. Just him smiling at me makes me feel those butterflies in the stomach. Then he says.

"You know I will fall more only to have you bandage it up for me."
He holds my hand and we look at each other. I look at him. Still hyped up from the match, his cheeks were flushed and red as beads of sweat on his face glistened across his forehead his muscles flexed, and his alluring eyes had me under his spell. He was a different level charming now that I forgot what he said and then after a minute when I was back to my senses."Shut up!" Then we both laugh looking at each other.
