Chapter 10
Amyra
That day, our date got canceled because of the football match. Apparently, it did hurt him a lot more and he had sprained his ankle but he pretended that it didn't hurt him. I called him up and he still didn't say anything until he came to my house and was limping because of the pain so I forced him to postpone.
We were hanging out today. Not a date. Just the two of us hanging out. I don't know where and when. I asked him but he didn't say me. Only a hint that it will be one of my favorite places. He told me to dress comfy. Even if he didn't I would have dress casually. I prefer comfort more. I took out a lemon yellow top and blue trousers. I tucked in my top and tie the ribbon of my trousers. With that, I wear my black sneakers. I take a purse to carry my phone and money.
Wouldn't have to take a purse if designers today designed pockets in women's clothes too. No offense but sometimes it's irritating to take a purse to carry my phone and cash. Living in such a busy city, I can't casually walk with my phone in my hand and if I do, it will the last I see of it.
I go downstairs and see Vihaan in his car today. I was a bit disappointed. I wanted to go on the bike but that's fine. He opens the car door and I sit inside. Vihaan noticed my disappointment.
"The bike is in servicing."
"I am fine with the car too."Before moving on, Vihaan edges in closer to my seat. His face too close to mine. He rests his hand on my seat almost touching me and with the other hand, he takes the seatbelt and locks it. La la la. My heart was screaming with the little space between us. My heart was beating fast and he had a smile plastered on his face showing how he knew the effect he had on me. He gets back and starts driving.
He smiles at me and we chatted about stuff. We are talking every time yet topics fall short when we are talking.
After half an hour or so, he halts the car. We get down and I looked ahead. It was a cafe. Not just a normal cafe. A book cafe. Does he have the key to my mind? He reads it as he has always been there.
"I was hoping you would like it."
"Oh, I love it, Secretive psychic." He laughs. He reads my mind. I love books. I mentioned it to him before but his remembering it made me feel special. It's the small things that matter to me.
"Let's go in." He held my hand and we went in. The cafe had such a beautiful ambiance. Wooden flooring and paintings hanged up on the wall along with quotes from famous books and authors framed. There were small coffee tables at the right corner and people were drinking their coffees and playing board games. To the left, there was a spiral staircase that led downstairs.
As we went downstairs, it was quieter here compared to upstairs. It wasn't that crowded and there were some people around here reading. Some students studying in the corner. The place was filled with a lot of books. There were small couches at corners. There were bean bags and cushions. A small seating made of blankets for people who wished to sit down. There were tables and chairs too to study too. The place was already turning into my favorite place.
I take a look around the bookshelves and select a book. Vihaan picks up a book and we sit down at the small seating made with a blanket. It was so comfortable and cozy around here. I can't explain. A different kind of peace. I look over at Vihaan and give him the biggest smile and get back into reading.
Vihaan
I remembered she said that she loved books and when Aayush reminded me of this place opened up in Andheri. I wanted to take her here. I will have to thank him later for helping me with this. We went straight downstairs to the books section.
She looks around and picks up a book. I cannot do anything. So I picked up some book and we sat down facing each other.
She gave the biggest smile I have ever seen and it was priceless. She takes a scrunchie and ties her hair up in a bun. It is rightly said and I know it now. Boys love when girls tie their hair in front of them.
I agree. That was so attractive.
She opens her book and starts reading. By the look on her face, I could say she had read the book. I open up my book too but my eyes are on her. She smiles when something comes up and it was so cute. I was never a book person but I came here for her. I can barely read my textbooks. How am I supposed to read a 400-page novel? I won't mind if she is reading me a story.
I was transferred off to some other world where I imagined myself. We were in the bed and Amyra was reading me a story to bed. She had some glasses and I was resting my head on her lap. I was listening to her sweet voice while looking at her listening to her read a story till I fall asleep. I wouldn't mind that at all.
The more I was looking at her, the more I was attracted to her. Like a moth to a flame. Hell! If I were a book reader I wouldn't be reading a book now. She looked so pretty and I was a fool to wait. Then she comes close and whispers.
"I know, I know." I am not a shy person but I could feel myself blushing. I lower my eyes from her, smiling brushing the nape of my neck to have caught up in my act of admiring her. On top of that, she repeated the words I said when I caught her staring at me the night at the party.
"How do you know I was looking at you?"
"You are holding your book upside down." She chuckles at that and I realize I was holding the book in the wrong way. I don't even know what book I picked. I turn my book and we both burst into laughter.
"Shhhhh!!!" Everyone is glaring at us. We tried to lower down when all the people were looking at us for making noise. We then changed positions sitting next to each other sitting at the support of the wall behind. I whisper in her ear...
"You look cute while laughing, you know."
"Oh is it." She blushes. Her eyes were still on the book.
"I don't think so." I don't know what came over me but I start tickling her.
"Oh no! Stop. Vihaan..." She glares at me while trying to control her laughter. I continue tickling her and she is laughing.
"Out now." A middle-aged woman towered over us and some people glaring at us and I know that look. We are going to get kicked out. After we were out of the cafe we both look at each other and burst into laughter.
"You got us kicked out. Never in my life, I thought something like that would happen to me."
"Then you are crazy. Where's the fun in living life the way it is? Rules are made to be broken." She laughs looking at me as if mouthing the words you are crazy. We left our car there and took a walk. It was close to evening and the sun was set. We were walking down the pavement in a quiet street.
I could only see a small tea stall by the end of the road which was closed which leaves the only ones on the street. The street was empty with a few bungalows on either side of the lane.
"I have never seen a road so quiet in Mumbai. Reminds me of my village."
"I am surprised too." And that's when I feel a few drops of water on the bare parts of my skin and it starts raining. The first rains. We look at each other and I cover my head with my hand and held Amyra's hand as we ran to the end of the street with Amyra to take shade under that tea stall but it was of no use because we were soaking wet.
I look at Amyra. She let her wet hair open as she was trying to shrug off the water. I couldn't take my eyes off her. Droplets of water running down her beautiful face. Her make up a little smudged but it didn't matter. She was not much of a makeup person. Her eyeliner must be waterproof for it was the way it was.
"The rain isn't going to stop soon."
"I don't mind." She chuckles and then she did something unexpected. She ran out in the rain and opening her arms, she looked upwards in the sky. She twirled in that position getting wet in the rain.
"Amyra, come in. You will catch a cold." She was too busy enjoying the rain that she gave me a deaf ear.
"Don't you remember, Pehli Baarish main bheegna aacha hota hai."
She says while looking at me and it was enough for me to join her.
I went behind her as she jumped into the small puddles of water formed. I liked this child version of Amyra. She is a child trapped in a human and that's what I love the most about her.
She was a bit away from me. She faces me and then she starts humming a song. She looks at me as if saying to me to sing and I quickly recognized it and start singing.
"Bheegi bheegi raaton mein
Meethi meethi baaton mein"
Aisi barsaton mein
Kaisa lagta hain?"
"Aisa lagta hain tum banke badal
Mere badan ko bheego ke mujhe
Ched rahe ho, chhed rahe ho
It's captivating how she always knows the song according to the occasion. It was also strange how the street was empty the entire time and no one came. The bungalows must be empty then. She giggles at me as she jumps in the water puddle. She is the happiest when she is in her comfort zone and I feel happy that she is the way she is with me. I start singing another song that comes to my mind.
"Saanson ko saanson
Mein dalne do zara
Saanson ko saanson
Mein dalne do zara
Dheemi si dhadkan
K
o badhne do zara
Lamho ki guzarish hai
Yeh paas aa jaaye
Hum hum tum
Tum hum tum..."(Song above)
She listens to me patiently enjoying and I pull her close to me. She wasn't surprised by my action. We looked into each other eyes in silence. She looked so beautiful now. Her hair all open and wet. Her dark brown eyes sparkling as usual and her soft pink lips.
She smiles at me. She tiptoes on her toes and tilts kissing my cheek.
I felt her soft lips on my cheek and I was screaming inside. That was a first and I wasn't expecting it not that I regret it.
I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. I never knew that a kiss can be so gentle and sweet. She gets down but my mind was still on the kiss. I was over the moon and it arose feelings I never knew existed. I saw her smiling and that's when I sneezed. Wrong timing but somewhat expected.
"Fuck, my phone." We look at each other with horror. We completely forgot about our phones but I didn't seem to mind that because I don't regret this moment.
"Aachoo..."
"I didn't think it through." I saw the frown on her face when I sneezed. She believes that it's her fault I caught a cold. The rain had stopped by now and we hurried back to my car before it starts raining again.
"Amyra, This was the best first rains I had and I will never forget this."
Well, that turned that frown into a smile. Seriously it was the best but can I say every moment spent with her are the best...
Amyra
It starts raining and we ran all the way to find shade in that tea stall which was closed down. I could use some hot tea now but I think there is something else that can warm me up.
I face Vihaan and his perfect hair was all messy and wet. Droplets of water ran down his sharp jawline and the smile on his face added the charm. He runs his hands over his hair and it made him look more attractive drawing me to him. We were soaking wet even though we ran all the way through. His t-shirt was wet and I could see through it. It only accentuates his toned abs and muscular arms which showed he worked out. Damn, he is hot. I could only imagine his body underneath that t-shirt. Okay, don't think about it but he is handsome and I have to give him that.
"The rain isn't going to stop soon."
He said looking at the rain. It was raining cats and dogs and it was all dark and cloudy. I love the rains. Woh mitti ki bheeni bheeni khushboo, chai aur pakode, roasted corn, jumping on puddles of water, and playing football.
"I don't mind." I laughed. I remember how I get wet in the first rains. I look at Vihaan and run out of the shade to get wet. I open my arms and look up circling getting wet. We were already wet, there is no use standing under the shade when we can have fun together.
"Amyra, come in. You will catch a cold."
"Don't you remember, Pehli Baarish main bheegna aacha hota hai."
I ignore his first sentence. Then I face him and yelled. He came after me and I went on hopping on the puddles of water. When it comes to things I love I don't care what people think about me. I do what I feel like doing. The dirty water is going to ruin my clothes and I remember getting scolded for ruining my clothes when I was a child but the fun was worth the scolding.
I face Vihaan and start humming a song that came to my mind. I hoped he gets the song and he did. He starts singing. The rain and his soulful voice fit together.
"Bheegi bheegi raaton mein
Meethi meethi baaton mein"
Aisi barsaton mein
Kaisa lagta hain?"
"Aisa lagta hain tum banke badal
Mere badan ko bhigo ke mujhe
Ched rahe ho, chhed rahe ho."
I continued the song. I am not as good as him but I love music. He listens to me as I finish the paragraph and jump in the puddle splashing water on his clothes. That made me laugh. He starts singing another song and I listen to him smiling.
"Saanson ko saanson
Mein dalne do zara
Saanson ko saanson
Mein dalne do zara
Dheemi si dhadkan
Ko badhne do zara
Lamho ki guzarish hai
Yeh paas aa jaaye
Hum hum tum
Tum hum tum..."
Then he pulls me close to him. I could feel the warmth radiating off his body. I look up at him and stare deep into his dark black eyes. It matched the dark black sky. My heartbeat was on a rise and the butterflies on my stomach. I smile and tiptoe to reach his face and kissed his cheek.
That was our first kiss. I didn't think of it. I thought it was sweet. I felt like doing it and I did. His eyes sparkled and his lips curl up in a smile flashing his bright white teeth. He rubs his hand at the nape of his neck like he does when he is shy.
I felt myself blushing. His smile melts down my walls. The more I see him smile, the more I get closer to him. He couldn't stop smiling and before he could say something. He sneezed and I realized something.
"Fuck, my phone."
"Aachoo..." He sneezed again. It was my fault. He did say about getting a cold.
"I didn't think it through."
The rain had stopped by now but Vihaan caught a cold because of my childish behavior. If only I had listened to him and stayed in the shade. We walk back to our car and my whole mood was spoilt seeing him sneezing all the way.
"Amyra, This was the best first rains I had and I will never forget this."
He says looking at me. I could tell by looking into his eyes that he wanted to say Dont blame yourself. The rainy season is my favorite season. I enjoy making memories in the rain but this was one of the best and my favorite so far and I knew it was the first to many.
