Chapter 12
Clarity Parker
"Parker! Allen! Where the lab results?" Singh yelled. I exchanged glances with Barry before he started walking to the lab. Great. Leave me with Singh. The guy who hates me.
"He's going to get them. Sorry, Sir." I finished speaking just as Barry handed Singh the lab results. I gave Singh a small smile as he turned to go back to his office. Barry gave me a quick kiss on the lips.
"I'm sorry. I have to go on a case with Joe. Will you be fine here?" Barry asked. I chuckled.
"Barry, I'm 24. Not 5. Plus it's work. I'm paid to stay here. And we're in a police precinct," I told him. He nodded and kissed me again quickly before running off with Joe. I sighed and shook my head.
"Parker, can I speak to you?" I looked over at Singh and nodded, following him into his office. "Are you and Allen dating?"
"Normally I'd make some sarcastic remark but you're my boss so I won't. But yes, we're dating. Why?" He sighed.
"Listen, I know that you can't help liking someone. Trust me. I have a boyfriend myself. But what happens if you both-" I held up my hand.
"You're saying that it wouldn't be smart because we're in the same district," I concluded. He nodded.
"You're smart, Parker. Make the right decision. Don't risk your life or job for some emotion. Because you know what's going to happen in a few weeks," he told me. I sighed and nodded. Singh is right. It'll be way too risky in a few weeks.
"Of course, Sir." He dismissed me and I headed back up to the lab. Just as I sat down Barry sped in and sat down, making me sit down on his lap. Normally I would laugh.
"What's got you in such a sucky mood?" he asked as I leaned my head against his chest. I shrugged.
"Just something someone said to me. The worst part is that it's true. That call was fast," I said, changing the subject. Barry nodded.
"Yeah. False lead. So what exactly did this person say?" I groaned, making him chuckle. "You can't change the topic with me and you know it. Never worked when we were kids and won't work now. So tell me who put you in such a bad mood so I can beat them up."
"You would beat up your boss?" I questioned. Barry frowned.
"What did Singh say?"
"That we shouldn't be dating since we work in the same district. It's dangerous." He rubbed circles with his thumb on the back of my hand.
"Clar, we're Forensic Scientists. How the hell is it dangerous? We barely leave the lab and when we do it's to go out on a call or to investigate a body," he said. I nodded.
"I know. But there's something else I didn't tell you." He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. We had agreed not to keep secrets anymore. "I can't go on as many Flash calls with you anymore. Only on my days off. So I guess we're rotating working days now." He shook his head.
"I'm still not following. Why wouldn't you be able to speed in and out from work? We already do that," he told me. I nodded. I opened my mouth to respond when his phone rang. Saved by the phone. "Cisco? Damn. On my way."
"Call?" He nodded. "I'll come," I replied. I quickly changed into my Violet Flash suit and we sped out, passing Joe on the way. I smirked and flicked Joe's arm as I sped out just for the hell of it. He'd know what hit him. Barry and I arrived at the sight. I stopped Barry. "Gun," I whispered, pointing to the man's side.
"I'll distract him. Get the gun." I nodded as Barry walked over to the man in the convenience store. "Hey, man. I'm just curious, but have you never heard of me?" The man with the gun laughed before pointing another gun at me.
"Bloody hell, you have more than one?" I asked, hands up.
"Yeah, I've heard of you two. And my boss would love to study you two." I stared at the ID Badge on his belt loop. Mercury Labs. "I'm not a criminal. Just a hoax to get you guys here."
"Barry, Clarity, what's going on?" Caitlin asked.
"He's not robbing the store. He works for Mercury Labs and wants to impress Tina McGee," I explained, "he has a gun pointed at me and I'm not taking the risk of getting shot."
"Clarity, Barry has outrun a bullet many times."
"Yeah. I know. So have I. But it doesn't look like a normal gun. My guess? Military grade," I replied. I heard the gun click.
"Shut up!" he barked. "Who are you talking to? The police? Your partners?" We heard a car door shut and I looked outside. Two teenagers. One of them were Holly.
"Flash, get them out of here." Barry nodded and grabbed the teens, speeding them away. I looked to the gunman. "Fine. I'll go with you," I muttered. He smirked and went to put handcuffs on me. That's when I knocked the gun out of his hand before dislocating his shoulder. He screamed out in pain.
"I thought you don't hurt people. Even criminals," he hissed. I bent his arm more, making him scream again.
"That's The Flash. If you haven't noticed, I'm not him," I sneered. I heard Barry speed in.
"Violet, stop! Let him go!" Barry yelled. Suddenly realization clicked in and I stepped back, releasing the man. I grabbed the gun and ran back to STAR Labs.
"What the hell was that?" Cisco asked as I placed the gun in front of him. He was instantly distracted by the gun.
"Ms. Parker, we do not harm anyone! Even the ones with guns pointed to you!" Dr. Wells yelled.
"I know that!" I yelled. I sighed and sat down in one of the chairs. "I don't know what came over me. When I saw Holly I was worried. But Barry sped them away so I don't know why I was still mad. I was angry. It's like I just needed to hurt him. I couldn't control it," I explained. Cisco, Caitlin, and Barry all exchanged glances. I held my head in my hands, trying to figure out why I wanted, no, needed to hurt that man.
"I'm going to contact Dr. McGee to alert her about her employee. I'll be back," Dr. Wells told us. We all nodded. Barry whispered something to Cisco and Caitlin and they left the room. Barry sat down in front of me.
"Clarity, what were you going to tell me when Cisco called?" Barry questioned. I looked up and sighed. "You have to tell me sooner or later. Why not just get it over with?" I nodded.
"Before we got close, before I even knew I was working with you, I went through Police Academy Training. I want to be a Detective and in order to do that I have to be on the road for a few years. I was on the road in Florida for a year or two. I took the Forensics position until a Detective spot opened up. A spot opened up. Barry, I won't be working with you," I explained. He frowned.
"Then who will I be working with?" I shook my head.
"Nobody. Normally Forensic Scientists work alone. In Florida I had a partner but he was...he was different." He raised an eyebrow.
"The way you just spoke about him, how was he different? How close were you two?" I sighed.
"We were moving to Central City together. Barry, he was my fiancé. Will and I planned to get married. But we came to Central City the day the Particle Accelerator exploded and-"
"He died." I nodded. "Clarity, I'm so sorry. I had no idea. What killed him exactly, though?"
"I guess the lightning bolt that struck me, struck him, too. It killed him and gave me powers. I was supposed to be Clarity Park. Not much of a last name difference, huh?" Barry shook his head and laughed a bit. "His sister is the reporter for Sports in Picture News. Linda, I think her name is. I only met her once and Will never talked about her much." Barry nodded.
"You were engaged," he muttered, looking to the ground. I place my hand on his arm.
"Barry, look at me." Slowly, but surely, Barry looked into my green eyes. "Nothing is going to change how I feel about you. Will is dead. He's not coming back. I may have lost two things that night but gaining my speed and reuniting with you probably makes up for most of it." He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"Two? What did you lose besides your fiancé?"
