Chapter 2: An Unknown Place

Would appreciate it more if you guys give me some reviews/comments on how this fanfic is progressing.

"What the bloody hell?" Matt exclaimed his current thoughts.

There were a lot of things Matt had seen in his life that weirded him out. But this kind of takes the cake of it. After the weird red medallion had activated, it had somehow teleported Matt and Andy to somewhere in Russia, according to them.

Why Russia you may ask? Well it was the fact that the two saw various roadsigns and the nameboards by the shops that are in Russian. And of course the obvious designs for the buildings that are similar to of what the Russian architecture usually is.

Nevertheless, his thoughts were still occupied by the mere fact that he and all of his friends got TELEPORTED away from Britain, leaving the man in such a baffled state. What's worse is that he had promised his mother that he would come for his brother's birthday tomorrow - which is today judging by the daylight sky. But now that he is in another country, there's absolutely no way he could get back on time.

Putting his head between his hands in frustration, Matt tried to think of what to do. While doing that he took a glance at Andy and noticed that he is taking this differently than him.

Sure, Andy was as baffled as Matt, but he look like he didn't have any hints of frustration. Instead Andy felt fascinated of what the medallion did. It had done something that not even NASA technology could do; teleported them to another place.

The Korean begin to think how something that looks old and simple could do something so advanced. Was the medallion secretly a futuristic object that the hooded man somehow took?

Matt stared at Andy before the latter regained from his thoughts. "Holy crap, man. I can't believe we got teleported. This is insane!" Andy said with such enthusiasm.

"Yeah, insane indeed, not ignoring the fact we're teleported somewhere in bloody Russia." Matt replied, though not as enthusiastic as Andy since he's still frustrated. "Fucking hell, I promised my mother I would arrive tomorrow for my brother's birthday and now I'm not even home!"

"Wait, really?" Andy queried.

"Yeah, it's his 15th birthday." Matt said before putting a hand on his forehead. "Dammit man, what the hell am i gonna do?"

"Well you could just text or call your mom on where you're at." Andy suggested.

Matt let out a scoff. "Yeah right. What am I gonna say? That I got teleported to Russia?" He said sardonically, before taking out his phone from his pocket. Though when Matt looked at it, his eyes went wide before letting out a groan.

"What is it?" Andy asked.

Matt showed his phone right infront of Andy's face. "No. Fucking. Signal." He stated as Andy saw that the cellular signal of his phone was empty. Andy whipped out his own phone to see if he had the same problem. To no surprise, his phone also has no signal.

"Oh..." Andy acknowledged.

"Great. I'm gonna miss my brother's birthday, and now i can't call or text my mother or anyone at all. Not even the rest of the guys that are probably scattered here!" Matt exclaimed before sighing and sat back down on the alley floor.

"Hey, cool off, Matt." Andy assured, leaning down to him and put a hand on one of his shoulder. "Our phones may not work, but that doesn't mean we're stuck in a middle of nowhere. By the looks of it, we're still in civilization. Just from a different country that's all. All we have to do is ask one of the locals for help."

Matt looked around for a moment and realizes that Andy's right. They may be in Russia now, but atleast they were still in civilization. Looking back at Andy, he gave him a smile. "Alright. But let's just hope they know English, though."

"Eh, that language is pretty popular internationally, even in Korea. I'm sure some of the Russians would know the language." Andy claimed.

"Hope so." Matt said before the two begin to walk out of the alleyway. When they observed the streets yet again, they begin to notice of how awfully quiet it is. There were no signs of people walking around nor any cars moving about on the streets.

None of the shops are even active and felt abandoned. The whole block feels like a ghost town.

"Where is everyone?" Matt wondered.

"I don't know, but the silence here is creeping me out. I-I'm sure we're in one of the densely populated areas of this city though." Andy said.

"Well, let's go if we could find anyone in this ghost town." Andy nodded in agreement before the two begin to walk to the streets. They went from block after block, and each time they passed several buildings and shops that were in the same state - vandalized and abandoned, they even pass by a few cars that were left broken.

Questions filled their minds as they kept on walking. Has there been a riot or a violent protest? If so, how come they never heard of it in the news? Maybe Russia was trying to contain it. Knowing their government, it is possible.

Atleast they haven't seen any signs of casualties. That's good to know.

After about a few minutes of walking, Matt ears perked up when he heard something. Voices.

Andy heard it aswell. The voices sounded pretty distant from where they are, and they were speaking some sort of Russian dialect. They are in Russia after all. What followed of those voices however were a series of shattered glass and thrashed objects.

Matt silently cursed. Of course when they got teleported to a city of another country, it had to be in the middle of a riot.

"Let's go this way." Matt said to Andy while gesturing an arm to an alleyway on his right, suggesting that they should cut through it. Andy simply nodded, following the brown-skinned man to the alleyway in hopes they would avoid all of these riots and protests.

Sadly that hope quickly fell. When the two made it to the end of the alleyway, Matt had spotted the rioters that're twenty feet away from their position.

"Shit, get back!" Matt shouted in a whisper as he urged Andy to back up into the alleyway. The Korean was confused before he peek out and saw the rioters aswell.

While they stayed at the alley, they took the time to observe these 'rioters'. Matt saw that they're all wearing the same outfits - which are white ragged shirts along with a hood that covers their head. Their chests were clad in ballistic armor. As for weapons - almost all of them are equipped with sharp swords, with a few having crossbows. Top it all off, all of them are bearing white masks that covers their entire face.

The two brits felt intimidated by these rioters, in fact they don't seem to look like Rioters. They looked a bit militant to be one. That's when Matt took a closer look and saw that the 'rioters' had some kind of marking at the left side of their shirt. He could not tell the shape of it, but it almost resembles an '8' sign, or a DNA symbol. The colour was all in yellow and black.

Perhaps these are not rioters but more of militiamen in a rebellious organization, Matt thoughted. If that's true, then what are they doing thrashing the streets and the buildings? More importantly, who even are those guys and why haven't Matt heard of them?

"Who are these guys?" Andy asked.

"I don't know, but they look dangerous." Matt answered.

"Well, it's a good thing they don't have guns." He remarked.

"Yeah, but those crossbows could still cause a problem." Both of them then duck back down into hiding when they heard more thrashing sounds that were closer from the alleyway while hearing more of their voices.

Matt couldn't tell what they're saying, but all he knows is that they sounded pretty hostile. Whatever they are doing it is probably for bad intentions. A more good reason that they should not get caught by them.

"It's dangerous to go out there now. We should go back, but stay cautious. We don't want to alert these wankers." Andy give him a nod while chuckling at the last part. The two slowly got up and move back from where they entered, albeit slowly but surely.

When the two got out of the alleyway, Matt tried to think of where would they go. Because this city is in a middle of a riot by those white militias, there's a good chance a lot of them had occupied some parts of the block. If they want to be safe, they had to find the local authorities of this city.

Just as the two were about to walk off to another block, a voice shouted behind them.

"HEY!"

Matt and Andy froze in their place before the former had gathered the courage to turn around to the shouter. As he expected, it was one of the militiamen.

Matt could not see his face, but he knows that he means business. And by the fact that the militiamen was holding his sword tight, ready to slash them if they make a wrong move.

The militiamen then said something in Russian in a hostile matter. Of course, Matt and Andy did not understand what he meant so the former hesitantly replied. "P-Pardon...?"

"Victorian..." The militiamen said, which confused the two of his remark. Then he spoke again, this time in English. "I said, what are you two doing here!?"

Still feeling intimidated, Andy joined in the conversation with a nervous smile. "W-We're just passing through..."

The militiamen let out a scoff. "You should've known that this area is occupied by Reunion." The 'Reunion' guy begin to observe the two brits, which made them more nervous. "You uninfected..." He said as he begin to grip his sword tightly.

Matt started to sweat. "W-What are you-"

He was cut off when the militiaman begin to yell and raised his sword at them. This prompted the two brits to quickly evade the attack. The Reunion militiaman growled and continued his attack on the two as they tried their best dodge the attacks. When he was focused on Andy, Matt took the opportunity to go up behind him and push him to the ground.

The two let out panicked breaths after what just happened. "W-What the hell was that about?!" Andy exclaimed.

Matt tried to answer, but he was interrupted when he heard the man spoke up.

"I found two more!"

Matt and Andy shifted their heads to the alleyway and saw two more militiamen had appeared. The militiamen that called to his comrades quickly got up as he and the other two stared at the two brits with their swords gripped tight.

Taking a step back, Matt could tell that they're pretty angry judging by their body movements. After witnessing of what the first militiaman tried to do to him and Andy, Matt had to do the most logical thing anyone would do in these type of situations.

"RUN!"

Not needing to ask twice, Andy bolted with Matt as the two make a run for it. The three 'Reunion' militiamen aren't just gonna stand there as they give chase to them, with a few more of their comrades joined in their pursuit.

As Matt and Andy ran, the former could see more of the militiamen coming from all sides. Various shouts were heard coming from them, most were in Russian, but some were in English.

"Get back here, uninfected scum!"

"I am going to cut your limbs up!"

"Come closer so I can gouge your eyes out!"

"What the hell is with these crazy people?!" Andy exclaimed, fearfully.

"Just keep running!" Matt replied. Suddenly something went over his beanie and noticed that it was an arrow. He look back to see the militiamen with Crossbows firing at them. "And dodge the arrows!" He added.

Andy look back as an arrow was coming towards him. Doing what Matt said, Andy stopped for a moment and duck his head down as the arrow nearly hit his head.

His hand was then grabbed by Matt as the two turned to block after block, crossing various streets while trying to escape the militiamen. However every time they turn, they kept being fired upon by the crossbowmen.

They were all over the place from the roads and even on the roofs. The two brits were forced to dodge the incoming arrows in various ways, one includes them diving down to the ground, which was a bad move since it slowed them down a bit and let the other 'Reunion' militiamen to catch up at them.

"If we had a handgun, this would be a whole lot easier to deal with!" Andy expressed.

"Well England is not America, Andy!" Matt retorted.

The two ran for a long minute. Matt turn around to see that the militiamen weren't on their tail, but he could hear that they're still chasing him. He knows that running won't do no more as they would eventually grow tired. So they had to hide.

Looking around their surroundings, Matt then saw an alleyway to their left that has a huge dumpster which could work well as cover. "Through here!" Matt said as he grabbed Andy's arm and pulled him to the alleyway.

Both of them then hid behind the left side of the dumpster. Matt gestured at Andy to keep quiet, in which he nodded in return as they waited. A few seconds later, they could hear lots of footsteps ahead. It sounds like they are running past the alleyway they were in.

Good. Matt wouldn't know how long he and Andy would last should they kept running. It'll just make them easy targets when they're tired. He then hear a few of them stopping infront of the alleyway followed by a growl.

"Where the hell did they go!?"

"They couldn't went too far."

"We must find them and kill them! We cannot risk them of informing the royal guard on where we are."

"Not like that would make any difference. We outnumber those royal assholes 10 to 1." One of them said with a chuckle.

"Still, they're uninfected scum and they deserve to die!" That respond was followed by some 'Yeahs!', making the two brits uneasy but also confused when they were referred as 'uninfected'. Were these Reunion militiamen infected with a disease? That doesn't excuse why they feel the need to kill them.

They then hear the footsteps leaving the area. Matt slowly peek out of their cover and saw that the militiamen were no longer there.

He then let out a sigh of relief. "Coast is clear."

Andy sighed in relief aswell as they both rested for a bit, giving eachother a much breathing room. Matt had several questions running through his mind when he and Andy got teleported to Russia, but after that whole fiasco - he has A LOT of questions.

First thing is why did they call him and Andy as 'uninfected'. The most obvious reason is that those Reunion 'militiamen' were infected, probably with some kind of virus. But why would those Reunion militiamen even want to kill him and Andy if they were 'uninfected'. They could just go to a doctor or something for a checkup or something.

Speaking of which, who even were those 'Reunion' guys? As far as Matt could tell 'Reunion' may be some sort of militant organization that's probably made up of those 'infected' people that those guys were. But how come he had never heard of it before? Surely Russia couldn't just hide something like this to the public eye.

Thinking of these thoughts is beginning to make his head hurt, so he put those aside and focus on Andy. "You good?"

He gave him a nod, like always. "My legs are sore, but I'm good." Andy then sat down and leaned against the dumpster, letting out some breaths after all of that running.

He then asked. "What the fuck just happened? Who were those people? And why did they want to kill us?! We didn't do anything wrong to them...did we?"

Matt couldn't help but sigh. "I don't know, mate. This whole day has been confusing to us. But right now we should find a safe place, and if we could - find the authorities of this city, or what those Reunion guys said - The Royal guard."

After saying that, Matt speculated that last word. He knows that Royal guards are of course the personnel guards that're tasked to protect the monarchs of the nation, like Britain with the Royal family.

But...Matt and Andy were in Russia, and Russia isn't really a monarchy anymore, but a federal state. So how come they get to have a 'Royal Guard?"

Looking back to Andy, the Korean give him another nod as he sat by the dumpster. "Alright, but let me rest up a bit."

"Go ahead. I'll keep on a look out incase any of those guys show up." With that, Matt left Andy to rest up as he peek out of the alleyway. There were still some of those 'Reunion' militiamen, but they were a bit far from the alleyway, so they're good. While keeping on guard, his thoughts begin to play again in his head.

It looped the same questions he had since he and Andy arrived here, one of them then stood up front. And that was the rest of his friends: John, Emily, Derek, Jesse, Cynthia, and Carson. He almost forgot that they were probably in the same situation they are in since they too were teleported, in a Russian city that is in a middle of a riot by those Reunion Militiamen.

Recalling of how the way they acted against him and Andy, he knows that if they come across the rest of his friends, they too would try to kill them. Matt hoped that it won't happen to them. No sir, he would not let it happen.

They're part of his life, and he won't lose it. Once Andy is ready, He could try finding them first before going to the authorities. Or better yet, find the latter first then asked for their help to find his friends.

Matt then heard footsteps behind him, in which he assumed it was Andy getting back up on his feet. Though when he turn around, his eyes went wide when it was actually a Militiamen sneaking up on Andy, the latter not noticing him behind.

The militiamen readied his sword and was gonna stab the oblivious Korean through the head. But he was then interrupted when Matt shouted.

"Andy, behind you!"

Hearing the warning, Andy shift his head behind and let out a gasp when he saw the militiamen. Seeing that he was caught, the militiamen growled and went in for the kill. But as he was about to do it, Matt took action and lunged at him to the ground as they both landed with a hard thud.

Matt tried to pin the Militiaman down on the ground while wrestling his sword away. Though it didn't last long when the Militiaman grab a hold of his shirt as he easily pushed him off, which also caused Matt to crash into the dumpster.

Matt tried to stand back up while is also confused of how the Militiaman manage to push him so easily.

"Matt, look out!"

He heard Andy shouting at him as he look back up front to see the Militiaman about to stab him with the tip of his sword. With a quick reaction time, Matt dove out of the way as the Militiaman's sword came into contact with the dumpster.

The Militiaman thrusted his sword at him with such force that it was able to penetrate the steel of the dumpster. Though it also caused the weapon to be stuck. He growled and tried to pull it off.

Seeing that the Reunion Militiaman's weapon was stuck, Matt took this opportunity to fight back. After standing back up, Matt sent a punch to the distracted Reunion militiaman. The masked attacker recoiled back before sending an angry growl at Matt and also a punch.

Matt easily dodge the attack and sent another punch to the mask. The two then went on a brief hand-to-hand fight with Matt getting the upper hand. He manage to hit the Militiaman several times at his face and his mask. But with all his force he gave to him, it seems that the man was still standing.

As for the Reunion Militiaman, he tried his best to get a hit on the brown-skinned 'uninfected' man, but Matt was quick enough to dodge almost all of the attacks. Though his opponent manage to punch him into his left shoulder, and it hurt like hell, but not enough to bring him down.

The Masked Militiamen then sent out a heavy strike towards his head. Matt dodge it by ducking his head down before counterattacking by punching him to where his lower jaw is. The Militiaman took a few steps back while rubbing his lower jaw from the pain.

Knowing that Matt had to end this fight quick, he tightened one of his fists and send a last punch with all of his force. Because the Militiamen was busy rubbing his lower jaw, Matt manage to hit his left cheek.

He punched him so hard that it caused his mask to fly out of him and his hood to open as the Militiamen was then knocked down to the ground.

After winning that brief fight, Matt let out a few pants while looking down on the downed militiaman. He then felt his fists stinging in pain. It took him about ten punches to the face to take that man down. He probably had some tough skin.

"Dang, Matt. That was bloody awesome!" Andy applaud, walking right next to him.

"Thanks. I've taken a few boxing lessons before. Still got it." Matt said, still panting a bit. After composing himself, he focused on another topic. "But i think that fight may had gotten some attention from any of those militiamen nearby. We gotta go now."

Matt then went to the end of the alleyway where that militiamen had came from as he looked around. Good news, He didn't see any of the militiamen. Bad news, he knows there were still some of them on the other side, so they have to get out of here.

Though when he was about to go out, he noticed that Andy wasn't following behind him as he was staring at the downed militiamen. "Andy, what are you waiting for? We have to go!"

"Matt, you gotta take a look at this." Andy said, pointing to the militiaman.

Failing to contain a groan, he went over to Andy's side and took a glance at his former attacker. When he did that though, his face went from frustrated to perplexed when he get a good look on the attacker's face.

His face was that of a normal human would have of having fair skin and short brown hair. But what got the two's attention was the two set of bear ears that are on his hair.

Matt thought it was one of those hairbands with the fake animal ears, but that is until Andy pointed out to the ears that were twitching and moving.

Those were a real set of ears. BEAR ears. On a HUMAN head!

If you think Matt's brain did not explode with questions a while ago, it is right now. Seeing an actual half human-animal totally takes the cake of the questions, because those things NEVER existed in real life, and only in fiction.

And yet here he is, staring at one that he had fought and knocked out.

"What...the fuck?" was all Matt could uttered.

He was then interrupted when he and Andy hears several shouts in Russian that are coming from the rest of the militiamen towards where they are. Shaking his thoughts away again, Matt grabbed a hold of Andy's hand.

"Come on!" The two then ran out of the alleyway just as the rest of the 'Reunion' militiamen arrived.

"There they are! After them!" One of them pointed to the two fleeing brits. And so the militiamen gave chase again, while ignoring their downed comrade on the alleyway.

Matt and Andy kept on running from block after block. Now they've come across more destroyed cars and vandalized shops, with the addition of dead bodies littered across the streets that doesn't look like they're part of the Reunion Militia. Most had those same bear ears like the attacker.

It seems that they're those 'uninfected' that the Reunion militiamen kept mentioning about, and knowing how they felt about them - it was obvious these 'uninfected' people were killed by them. Some were in such a brutal way too.

Matt and Andy were horrified at the sight, but the former kept his focus on trying to escape the pursuing militiamen as he gripped Andy's hand tight, much to the latter's displeasure. After two minutes of running, of what felt like an hour, the two Brits stopped as they catch their breaths.

But of course, they need another safe place to hide from those militiamen. This time a more bigger and spacious are than an alleyway.

"We need another place to hide." Matt said as he started looking around for any safe spots. Unfortunately he couldn't seem to find one as the militiamen would likely search those places.

Fortunately though, Andy responded. "We could hide over there."

Matt saw him pointing to the largest building in the distance. It is a giant oval shaped building that towers over every building in this block. It is also surrounded by walls, which points out that it could be an important building on whatever city this is.

From where they are, the walls seems to stretch at possibly a kilometer or two, which means that it is a large place to take refuge and hide from these militiamen.

Despite that, Matt was not agreeing with that option. He did think he wants a more spacious hiding spot, but not THAT spacious.

"Andy, i don't think that building's a good idea." Matt argued.

"What do you mean?" Andy raised an eyebrow. "It can be a good hiding spot to hide from those bloodthirsty militiamen. Given of how large that building is, we can atleast sneak past them if they were to follow us there."

"Still though, with a building like that, I'm afraid it may be occupied already."

"What other choices do we have?" Andy countered. "If we're hiding in one of these buildings, then those Militiamen would just search in every nook and cranny until they find us. We don't even know how many of them there even are. There's possibly hundreds of them! Look, if we want to live and get out this nonsense, then hiding in that building is our only choice."

Andy then grabbed Matt's hands. "Come on, Matt. You're one of my best friends. Could you atleast trust me in this?"

Matt bit his lower lip, trying to think of another solution, but he soon gave in. They didn't know how many troops these 'Reunion' have in disposal, but they may have a lot that trying to hide amongst these buildings would be a bad idea.

Besides, most of the rooms would probably lack any other rooms or furniture that could be use for cover, given how most of them looked abandoned or untouched.

Letting out a defeated sigh, he answered. "Alright, let's go with your plan."

Andy smiled before the two heard the voices from the militiamen coming closer to them, which was their cue to leave. And so the two brits made a dash to the giant building with Andy leading the way.

Of course the Militiamen spotted them and pursue them towards the building. While they were running, one of them was able to flank them from the rear and attacked Matt. Thankfully, Matt dodge the attack and pushed them away.

As they were getting close to the entrance gates of the complex, Matt turn to his right and saw five crossbowmen aiming towards them.

"Get down!" Matt shouted as he forcefully pushed Andy down to the ground next to a car.

He could hear the crossbows firing as the arrows hit the car beside them, a few of them managing to penetrate through the windows, which left him shocked a bit.

"Let's go, as soon as they're reloading!" Andy urged.

It was now Matt's turn to give him a nod as both of them got up and kept running to the entrance gate. As they finally reached the gate and about to go in, Andy was suddenly hit by an arrow that scratched his left cheek.

"Shit, you okay?!" Matt briefly stops and asked.

"I'm fine, keep going!" Andy replied, while holding his bleeding cheek. And with that the two brits crossed the gate and went into the large dome-like building.

Meanwhile, the pursuing Reunion militiamen had regrouped infront of the gate of the dome-like building, some were irritated that they've just lost two of their prey. But since they went into that building, it means that they're hiding somewhere in there, like the little pests they are.

Knowing that there could also be other uninfected people hiding in that structure, the Reunion militiamen stormed in through the gate, aiming to bring any uninfected they see and kill them all. After what their people have done to theirs, they all deserve to perish.

_______________________________

Elsewhere far from the entrance gate, three figures were watching the Reunion forces storming into the structure. One of them - being a female with black hair and has features of a Doberman, let out a curse since they too were planning on entering the building from the front entrance gate.

Some of her comrades were in the structure, retrieving their HIV after they were injured. She planned on regrouping with them in the structure after it was done. But of course those two men, which looked to be foreigners, had to lure the Reunion forces into the Sarcophagus and botched her plan.

"Orders, instructor?" One of the men in her team asked.

"Change of plans. We're finding another entrance. Front gate is already occupied." She answered.

They both nodded as the trio then left their spot in search for another way in the Sarcophagus without being detected by the Reunion forces.
