Chapter Seven - Information

After failing to capture Hunter, Owl Squadron returns to the Hellsing Manor to report on the mission. Luz along with Eda and Amity report to Integra.

Integra: What happened out there, Captain Clawthorne?

Eda: We found the Vampire, but he caught on to us and ran off. We tried to chase him down, but he got away.

As Eda says this, Integra looks over the report given to her by Eda. As Integra does this, Luz steps forward, remembering the last thing Hunter said to her.

Luz: Before he ran off, he said something about an Emperor.

Integra: Emperor?

Luz: Yeah. He said that the Emperor was not a merciful man.

Amity: He had to have been talking about the Vampire who turned him. Did he say anything else?

Luz: No.

As Luz said this, Integra took a moment to process the information that she was given. It was clear to her that the Emperor was no ordinary Empire. The Emperor was a Vampire to be feared.

Integra: Hhm....

Eda: Integra?

Integra: Whoever or whatever this Vampire is, this Emperor is clearly not your run of the mill Vampire. Captain Clawthorne. Take Noceda and Blight to Helena.

Eda: You sure that's a good idea?

Integra: She might be our best lead in tracking down this Emperor and his progeny.

As Integra said this, it was clear to Luz that Eda wasn't too keen on visiting Helena. While Eda spoke with Integra, Amity spoke to Luz.

Amity: I never got to properly thank you for saving me. It was reckless, but it was noble.

Luz: Thanks, I guess.

Amity: Perhaps....perhaps I was wrong about you.

Luz: It's nothing.

Amity: No. It wasn't. I was unfair to you and it was wrong.

At this point, Luz began to chuckle.

Amity: What's so funny?

Luz: You know something? You're kinda cute when you're apologizing like that.

This comment caused Amity to blush lightly. Soon enough, Eda approached Luz and Amity.

Eda: Get your gear ready. We're heading out to meet Helena.

Luz: So what's the deal with Helena?

Amity: Helena is one of the oldest Vampires in England.

Luz: Another Vampire? I thought we hunted Vampires.

Eda: Normally we do. But she's one of the very few exceptions. Helena prefers her solitude and keeps to herself in her house.

Amity: And since she keeps to herself, Integra has no reason to pursue her.

Hearing that surprised Luz. She knew of Hellsing's mission to hunt down Vampires and all other creatures of the night. To hear that there was a Vampire that Hellsing leaves alone came off as a shock.

Luz: Why isn't the entire squad coming?

Eda: Like I said, Helena prefers to be alone. If we bring Owl Squadron, it'll send the wrong message. Amity's met her a few times. You're coming along cause you're a friendly face.

Luz: Noted.

With that, Luz and Amity joined Eda in their mission to meet Helena and learn about Hunter's maker. Meanwhile, Hunter made his way to an abandoned church. Once inside, Hunter takes a few deep breaths.

Belos: What troubles you?

Hunter: I...I was attacked.

Belos: That was most likely the Hellsing Organization. It was only a matter of time until they got involved. But you shouldn't have to worry about them. They lost the one creature on Earth who posed the greatest threat to me.

As Belos says this, he turns to his progeny who was clearly terrified. The Vampire offered a comforting smile to Hunter.

Belos: Fear not, my progeny. Integra Hellsing and her agents are mere nuisances in the grand scheme of things. Do you know the story of Alexander The Great and the Gordian Knot?

Hunter nods his head no. This earns him a smile from Belos.

Belos: During the conquests of Alexander the Great, the young king heard a legend of the Gordian Knot. The Gordian Knot was several knots all so tightly entangled that it was impossible to see how they were fastened and was tied to an old ox-cart. According to legend, any man who could unravel its elaborate knots was destined to become ruler of all of Asia. Being an ambitious man, Alexander couldn't resist the chance to take up the challenge. As Alexander attempted to until the knot, it proved to be quite the challenge. After wrestling with it for a time and finding no success, he stepped back from the mass of gnarled ropes and proclaimed, "It makes no difference how they are loosed." He then pulls out his sword and sliced the Gordian Knot with a single stroke of his sword.

Hunter knew about the exploits of Alexander the Great from school. Though the tale of Alexander and the Gordian Knot was unknown to him.

Belos: I've always been fascinated by this story. Here was one of the world's greatest conquerors being stumped by what appeared to be an an intricate or intractable obstacle, yet Alexander used a creative and decisive solution to this seemingly insurmountable problem. It shows that a creative mind can easily overcome such things. We are not so different from Alexander. Like Alexander, we shall overcome what many consider to be impossible. In this world, the strong rule. Without strife, your victory has no meaning. Without strife, you do not advance. Without strife, there is only stagnation.

Hunter nods his head as Belos places his hand on his shoulders.

Belos: Through us, the powers of chaos are harnessed and exploited. Dark times don't simply emerge, Hunter. Enlightened beings, guiding intelligences manipulate events to bring about a storm that will deliver power into the hands of an elite group willing to make the hard choices the weak fears to make. Beings may elect their leaders, but fate has elected us. Remember that, my friend.

With that, Hunter's misguided resolve grew stronger. As for Belos, he simply bided his time until the time was right to unleash his plans upon the world.
