Chapter 36: The God Of Death Is Hot

"Dyrroth?"

Okay, he does have Dyrroth's face but besides that, and his hotness, they have contrasting features. For one, this guy is 8 feet tall while Dyrroth is only 2 inches taller than her, plus he has tan skin while Dyrroth is a purple eggplant. His hair had the same messy style but his locks were dark blue instead of silver and he has long dog ears instead of horns. Also, both of them seem to hate shirts since he's topless as well, giving her a good view of his well-toned body.

When Tall Dyrroth spotted her, she couldn't even blink before realizing that she's already in his arms, holding her protectively from the snake. Meanwhile, his other hand held a sharp curved sword she knew was called khopesh. He pointed the sharp blade against Jörmungand's neck with a terrifying look of spite on his face.

"Hela, what are you doing with him? Is he harassing you, my love?" Tall-Dyrroth asked as he began to grow bigger and more intimidating.

It seems that he had snatched her from her place with the speed of light and pointed his sword against Jörmungand. Ruby had no choice but to wrap her arms around his neck while she sat on his arm to keep her from falling.

"I'm fine. We weren't doing anything just talking. What happened to you here, Dyrroth? How did you get so tall?" she replied as she steadied her heart rate.

"Please stop teasing me with the name of your new plaything, my love. I know that you enjoy torment but kindly be merciful to my heart."

"Of all the people I could meet, it had to be you, Anubis. It would have been more pleasant if it was my beautiful Hela instead." muttered Jormungand as he rolled his eyes, unfazed by the hostility of the God of death.

So it wasn't Dyrroth after all. Though why does the Egyptian God of Death look like Dyrroth?

"You." Anubis growled as he looked spitefully at the Serpent God.

"You have no business being here, Lord Jörmungand. Not with my queen."

"Hela is still my sister. We shared a womb, you just shared a bed. I have the right to visit her whenever I want. You, on the other hand, might not last the century here before being discarded. I heard she's fond of a dashing demon prince." Ruby was alarmed by how Jörmungand could still provoke Anubis even though a sword was already pressed against his neck. She can even hear the low growl coming from his throat which was really terrifying.

"A mere demon will not replace me in Hela's heart. She loves me and I love her. You're just jealous because she chose me, her loyal lover, instead of a treacherous bastard like you. Hela is mine." Anubis retorted with a fierce glare. He even articulated the last part slowly to highlight his point. Ruby was not aware of the intense drama between these deities vying for the heart of the Goddess of Death. She must be a very beautiful woman with a captivating personality if they are this obsessed with her.

"For how long?" came the Serpent's smug reply.

It seems that Jörmungand had the natural talent to annoy other gods and as such Anubis didn't hesitate to strike him down. Thankfully, he allowed Ruby on her feet before engaging in the fight. The maiden watched as his face contorted into a snarling jackal head before swinging his sword at the Serpent. Unlike with Fenrir, Jörmungand was able to evade swiftly this time and repel Anubis' khopesh with a wavy sword.

The Serpent God fought with more elegance and smooth movements than he did earlier with Fenrir. Ruby can't figure out why, but the World Serpent seems to be fighting with more ferocity with Anubis. Was he holding back earlier because Fenrir was his brother or was the Wolf God more powerful than him that he appeared slow and unimpressive? Is he fighting harder because Anubis is his love rival or is there something more than meets the eyes?

Ruby couldn't help but be in awe of their fight. Jorm's attacks were brutal and precise like a striking cobra that destroys its prey with one bite. He is swift and powerful while Anubis moved with fewer flourishes and more practical attacks. Anubis' fighting style seems rigid but it was actually more efficient than it seems. His khopesh moved fluidly to repel and attack Jorm.

The Serpent God tried to spray poison on his face but Anubis evaded most of it except for a drop that landed on his eye. The Jackal God screamed in pain as the poison burned through his flesh and seared a portion of his face. This gave Jorm the opportunity to unhand his weapon and use his serpent tail to fling him against the wall. The Snake God had a maniacal grin on his lips as he moved to drive his sword to the Jackal God's heart. But before he could come any closer, ominous shadowy figures burst from a pool of darkness on the ground and bound his arms and legs.

Anubis immediately recovered from the injury and wiped the golden blood on his lips. He barked before landing a powerful punch across Jörmungand's face. The Snake hissed and snarled at him but Anubis delivered another strike against his pretty face.

"Ahahaha. I know that both of you are dogs but why do you punch so weakly like Fenrir? Hela could hurt me worse than this and that's when she's simply playing."

"Shut up!"

Anubis summoned his khopesh back to his hands. He was about to slice off Jörmungand's head but a sweet yet poisonously beautiful voice interrupted him.

"Anubis! How much longer will you keep me waiting? My bed is getting colder by the second."

"Hela?" mumbled the Jackal God.

"Then who are you?" he asked as he eyed Ruby suspiciously.

"Aaarrghh!" he exclaimed when Jörmungand unexpectedly stabbed him in the back right through his heart.

"I know that you've been sleeping with Hela for centuries, but have you really learned nothing from spending time with her? Never turn your back on your enemy unless you want it stabbed." Jormungand mused as he licked the golden blood on his sword.

"Damn you!"

"Oh, no!" Ruby exclaimed as she caught Anubis. She began drawing runes on his flesh to try and heal him which were thankfully effective. It was nice that she got magic lessons from Fenrir when she was on that five-day coma dream.

"Are you okay, Lord Anubis?" she asked once the wound closed shut.

"I'm fine, I'm a God of Death. I cannot die because of something so simple. Thank you for your compassion. I am very grateful. But I must learn who you are and why do you look like my Hela. You have a divine scent upon you. Are you a goddess?" asked Anubis as she helped him on his feet.

"My name is Ruby, I'm a human huntress from Vanargand. I'm... I'm Dyrroth's... wife and Fenrir's war maiden." she introduced, smiling shyly.

"I see... So you are Lord Fenrir's favored human and the mate of that demon. What are you doing here with that snake? You are not dead, are you? Your life still has more years to it."

"He kidnapped me."

"I did not. I simply burrowed your consciousness while Fenrir is off with whatever he is doing." reasoned Jörmungand.

"Without her permission? That is indeed called kidnapping." Anubis turned to her. "Come, child. I shall be the one to deliver you to Dyrroth's room. This serpent is not to be trusted."

Ruby is still skeptical about Anubis since they just met but she knows that he's the God that guides the souls of the dead to the afterlife and keeps evil spirits out of paradise. If that's the case then he's a protector and a guardian. Additionally, he is more trustworthy than Jörmungand. She took the hand he was offering and began to walk with him.

"Wait, you're not bringing me to the afterlife are you?"

"No, but if your demon mate is half as good as me in bed, then perhaps you'll reach heaven from here."

"You're surprisingly sexual for a God of death."

"Initially, I have no care for such matters since I am a Death God and not a Fertility God. But then I met Hela who is very lewd and seductive. She showed me the pleasures of the flesh after fighting with me for 69 days and nights."

"Why did you fight?"

"She insulted my job. I judge souls by balancing their hearts on a scale to see how they've lived their lives. Hela thought that it was stupid and said it outright to my face. That's why we fought. She has a very sharp tongue." Anubis explained as he guided her along the corridors.

Ruby was delighted that the God of Death was very civil and friendly. He is even more tolerable than Fenrir but she can't tell him that because he'll get very jealous and upset. They completely ignored Jörmungand who hissed in annoyance.

"Hey! How dare you two forget about me?!" Jörmungand yelled as he transformed into a gigantic snake a lot smaller than his original size which is massive to say the least.

"ANUBIS!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING AND NOT FUCKING ME?!" This time the sweet voice sounded more violent and annoyed.

"I'm coming, my love. Just give me a moment." he replied before sighing.

"No, you're not cumming unless I tell you to. Get in here already!"

"I said coming with an 'o' not with the 'u'. Don't worry, I'll be there in a minute!"

"10, 9, 8…" The goddess started counting down, making him curse in Egyptian before turning to Ruby and softening his features.

"Little maiden, I apologize but I must go. I will leave you in Jörmungand's care but I will make sure that he won't do you any harm."

"Okay, thank you."

"Jörmungand, swear to me that you will deliver this girl to her mate safely. You will not harm her in any way possible."

"Why should I do what a dog says? Just go lap up the queen's cunt like you do best instead of using your insolent mouth to order me around." retorted the snake with a sharp hiss.

"I will tell Lord Fenrir that you kidnapped his favorite."

"Go ahead, I'll even accompany you."

"Then, I'll tell Hela that you were the one who drank all of her favorite mead."

"Fine, I swear that I'll keep this girl safe and deliver her to her mate without harm. I swear it on your stupid name, Anusbitch."

The Jackal God growled but said nothing further to him before turning to Ruby.

"May you have a beautiful life before your time comes to join me in the afterlife. Farewell, Ruby." Anubis placed a chaste kiss on her forehead just like what Fenrir did to bless her journey in the Abyss. Soon enough, he transformed into sand and ashes leaving her alone with Jörmungand.

"He was very nice." She commented as she stared at where he faded off to.

"Ahhh!" she yelped when the snake suddenly lifted her and placed her on his tail. He began slithering across the corridor as half snake and half humanoid and Ruby gripped at his clothes to keep herself from falling.

"Up we go to the World Serpent Express. Boarding now in the Hall of Legends to the Demon's room. I need to deliver you quickly so that I can interrupt my sister from fucking that sly dog."

"You can just tell me the direction where I'm supposed to go. You don't need to guide me if you don't want to, Lord Jorm."

"Don't be absurd. I made a promise and I cannot break it."

"I didn't know that you keep oaths very well."

"I don't usually but this is a pact between gods. If I violate it then I'll be smited."

"Hey, get out of my way." Jörmungand said as a hound walked across his path. The mutt was sent flying when he flicked it with his tail and Ruby could only watch with pity as the dog whimpered away.

"Why do you hate dogs so much, Lord Jörmungand?"

"I don't hate dogs but dog gods just like taking what's mine, you know? When we were children Fenrir was mom and dad's favorite. Even Hela likes him better but at least she treated me nicely. When we were growing, most of the goddesses would fondle Fenrir and favor him more because he was cuter (even though he's a little bitch). And then there's Anubis who stole my lovely Hela. I hate his face and I want to kill him."

"Aww, there there. You're gonna find what's meant for you soon enough." Ruby cooed as she pats his head.

"I do not need your pity, mortal." hissed the Serpent God.

"It's not pity. It's called compassion."

"Well I don't want it either." mumbled the serpent with displeasure.

"Okay. Hey, your hair is really pretty."
