Chapter 17
Destiny walked to her and Steve's room. The door was locked but she told Friday to unlock it for her.
"Steve?" She looked around before seeing him at his desk with his head down.
"Go away, Destiny..."
"You don't really want me to go," she murmured as she hugged him from behind. He stood and engulfed her in his strong but gentle hug.
"No... I don't... I'm sorry for losing my cool... it was inappropriate..."
"It's okay Steve. You just don't want to see your baby girl hurt. I understand."
Steve sniffed and clutched his wife a bit tighter. "But what if Peter takes her away from us completely?"
"Peter would never do that, Steve. He cares for Lucinda so much and part of caring for her is letting her family love her too. Luci will always be your little ice crystal. Trust me."
"You're right, doll. You're usually always right. I love you," Steve kissed her forehead.
"I love you too," Dez smiled as she leaned her head on his chest. "Come here, I wanna snuggle."
Steve smiled and picked her up, taking her over to their bed were the snuggled. They ended falling asleep in each other's arms.
❄
Lucinda was in her pjs, snuggled into bed. She was pretty comfortable but a bit too warm.
She took the blanket off and tried to go to sleep. She was becoming so uncomfortable as the heat was rising. She tried to encase herself in ice but it was just melting around her.
"Too hot," Luci got up and went into the living room. She saw May in the living room, turning up the thermostat.
"Oh, hey, Luci. I just noticed you had this place freezing so I turned up the heat. It's getting cold outside. You gotta stay warm."
"Aunt May, it's really fine with the cold. I prefer the cold," she didn't want to tell May that she was a mutant and the heat made her weak.
Peter came in and noticed the penthouse was a lot warmer than normal. He saw Aunt May by the thermostat and Luci by the stairs. He immediately noticed that Luci looked unwell and he rushed to her side.
"You okay, Lu?"
"To hot..."
"Aunt May, can we turn the temperature down. It's way too warm in here," Peter said and May hummed.
"Oh, I usually keep our apartment at this temp. But okay." May turned it down. "Sorry. I'm just here to make sure you two are supervised. Tony told me that your parents are staying at his place for the night."
"Alright. Thank you, Aunt May," Luci said before she went back to her room.
Peter went with her and smiled but noticed that she wasn't smiling back.
"You alright, Luci? A-are you mad at me?"
"Mad? Why would I be mad?"
"Because I've been keeping off the field as much as possible," Peter said softly.
"I completely understand, Peter. You want to protect me, I get it."
"No, I want to prote- wait... how did you know? I would've thought you would think I didn't want to work with you or something."
"Well, I originally did think that but then I realized that you only started doing this after that living nightmare thing. You told me that you saw me die so I pieced it together," Luci smiled a little and he hugged her.
"Damn, you really are smart. This is one of the many reasons I like you."
Lucinda giggled and kissed his cheek gently.
"Come on, I'm tired and if you're staying here tonight, I wanna snuggle."
"No complaints here." Peter smiled and laid down on her bed, letting her lay in his arms with her head on his chest.
"You're the best," Luci murmured as she fell asleep in his arms happily.
🕷
Peter was awake before Luci because he got up really really early to make her breakfast in bed... unfortunately, he didn't do such a great job.
Luci groaned as she woke up to the fire alarm. She didn't think much of it until she got into the kitchen as saw Peter was trying to shoot webs to put out the fire in the kitchen.
Lucinda quickly shot snow over the flames which turned to water over the fire, putting it out.
"M-morning, babe," Peter blushed as he looked down and rubbed his arm.
"Morning, Peter. Would you like to explain what happened?"
"I was trying to make you breakfast in bed... but clearly that didn't happen..." Peter was so low spirited. He looked down with a defeated sigh. "I'm just gonna go home..."
"Peter, don't go. It's the thought that counts. It was sweet of you to try and do that for me," Luci smiled and grabbed his hand. She noticed that he looked ready to cry but was holding it down. "Hey, what's wrong, Petey?"
"I'm a horrible boyfriend..."
"You stop that right now, mister. You are the best boyfriend in the world," Luci wrapped her arms around him.
"Just in this past week, I missed three of our dates because I was too busy for my own girlfriend, I kept you cooped up in your house, your dad hates me and doesn't want me to be with you, and I nearly burned your house down. How am I not a terrible boyfriend?" Peter frowned as he looked into her eyes.
"Because you made up for those dates and I understand that the safety of innocent citiznes is more important than a date, you kept me cooped up because you were protecting me, my dad is just overprotective, and you were trying to make me breakfast in bed."
Peter nodded and gave a small smile, cupping her cheek gently. She leaned into his touch happily and smiled at him lovingly. He gently kissed her and pulled away a few minutes later.
"You are the best girlfriend a guy could ever have."
"Damn right, I am," Luci joked with a giggle and Peter chuckled lightly.
"Come on, we gotta clean this up," Luci said as she she gestured to the stove.
"Y-yeah... that's my bad..." Peter rubbed the back of his neck.
Just then, the front door swung open.
