Chapter 23
Y/n POV:
I felt like pacing around. Drama may have been a nice thing to look forward to in movies, but it's because we never get dragged into it with them. So now I'm stuck with a never leaving headache, and limbs forcefully added to my skull and spine. It had been about half an hour since I was stuffed into this room with Fenrir. Since then, we've almost had a heart to heart with an explanation of our companions.
I still don't know where Laurence is, and Fenrir's friend in the dungeon was who he was in love with. I was more than happy to at least be on the same page about this. We had been discussing how someone could be able to aid us from the outside. All my items had been snatched, including my communications amulet. Both the castle and village had been put on high alert, so there was nothing to do but wait.
"So what are we even doing here." Fenrir had an upset look in his eyes. "My father sent me to my room so that we could get acquainted with each other before the wedding. I don't know what he's planning, but I do know that the marriage is to be held the day after tomorrow." My breath had caught in my throat. So soon?! "Nope. Fake my death, suicide pact, something, this is bullshit! You can't be serious."
"Sadly, yes... we'll be married in less than two days if we don't come up with a plan. Now it is late as it is, it's been a long day and tomorrow will most definitely have a lot planned. You can take my bed and I can sleep on the floor next to the bed. If my father's aid comes in to check on us... I can just say I fell off or something." As strange as this sleeping arrangement was, it was smart.
"Really? I've long grown used to rugged laying quarters. We could do this the other way around." It's his bed, I felt uneasy just taking it. "No no, I will be perfectly fine. My father's aid is in charge of making sure we fall in love, so he will be checking up on us quite often. The least we can do to please him and save our friends is to pretend for the time being. It's going to be super awkward but... if it can save my Abby, then it's worth it."
~oOo~
I woke up with a panicked start. Someone had turned the doorknob and was opening the door. Reflexes had took over, forcing me to wrench forward in a drowsy state. "Sire! Come quick!" The voice of the Chairsman/aid from yesterday caused me to wipe the sleep from my eyes. "Mino?" Fenrir was standing as if he had just gotten up as well. "Sire you fell out of bed, are you okay?"
I choked down any comments that wanted to be made. "Heh, I'm fine! Uh.. we're totally in love by the way. What's wrong?" I glared at the back of his head from the terrible acting. "Michi has brought forth your Meif'wa fiancé's lover!" 'Lover? I don't have a lover! Whatever lies Michi is spurring up now..' I stood up from the bed in confusion and concern.
"The king is ordering you to execute him at once!" Mino sounded almost excited to be say that. "W-what...?(oh no).." Fenrir looked less that pleased. "Quickly! Let's get your best execution suit on!" Mino rushed out, as we shared a look. "What is he talking about, I don't have a lo--" fenrir placed his hands on my shoulders much like his mother did yesterday. "...I won't let anything happen to your lover, quick... we need to find a way to resolve this."
Whatever was happening, this person was in danger of something bad. With all the fuss Mino was making about changing clothes, he never actually went through with it. As we both rushed down to the thrown room. Fenrir stopped at the top of the stairs very abruptly as I followed pursuit. And there he was. Hands bound behind his back while standing before the king. With an orange Meif'wa tail and ears making him look less frightening.
Laurence.
I put a hand over my mouth to keep from saying anything uncalled for, but quickly retreated it back to my side the the King side eyed us in the corner. "Stay behind me. Do not interrupt or it will only make matters worse." Fenrir gave a stern whisper after seeing my new found expression. I heaved a breath but went through with his request. It was then I noticed Michi standing only a few feet behind Laurence with a proud look on her face.
"How dare you come barging into my chambers. Speak now before I have you thrown in the dungeon." The King made no movement other than speaking, with a glint in his eye and a scowl on his face. "Nya, your excellence. I bring you a Meif'wa male." Now that part was quite obvious to those who don't know the full story. "We don't need you to betray your own people any longer, why do you bring me this vermen?"
"I heard from a little bird that your son is going to marry one of the Meif'wa I brought you, Nya~! Congrats! I told you she was a keeper!" Michi kept her sweet cover as she spoke to him. "Get to the point." Laurence was most likely more than confused over what was happening but has held onto a straight face the whole time. "This male Meif'wa here, is her lover... I have no need for him since he doesn't want to have fun with me at all! Hmph!"
"There's not exactly much of you to have fun with." At another time I would have laughed or even smiled, but now I'm nothing but angry at this hoe ass, Meif'wa lying, low life, dirty scum and her tomfoolery. "NYA! HOW DARE YOU!-- I mean, hehe.... I brought him here because... it would be such a shame if he was allowed to roam around... what if he gets ideas to be with your son's fiancé behind his back?!"
"I have already sent for the prince to execute him. When I saw a male I figured this was going to be the case. Good work Michi. Now take your diamonds and get out of my face." It was obvious that the King wanted nothing to do with her. Like anyone did for that matter. "With pleasure, Nya~! See you later, lover boy!" I grit my teeth at her retreating figure as she exited the giant double doors.
Laurence glared at her over his shoulder. "I swear when I get out of this-- I'll make you pay for what you've done to us." Anger, hate and resentment radiated off of his tone. Once she was fully gone, the King spoke. "Tell me Meif'wa--" "I am not a Meif'wa... I am a human... now you better let me and my comrades go before I--" Out of all the times for him to be a hothead with anger issues, it had to be now.
"Do not speak out of line. Now, let me ask you... are you truly the lover of the female Meif'wa, Y/n?" I don't even think Laurence knew I was here. We aren't lovers. We aren't together. Not now, not... ever. "..Lover? No. I am not. I am her comrade has been many others. That's all I am." The King didn't look convinced in the slightest as he wallowed for a second.
"...She is waiting up there on the stairs with my son. Look at her and tell me that." Fuck. 'This isn't happening right now.' Laurence had closed his eyes before slowly turned up to me. The tonic mold completely melted away. He held so many emotions towards me that I didn't even want to know what were. Because I don't deserve that. He shouldn't be in this mess because of me. None of us should be here.
Content. Heartbreak. Longing. Worry. Renouncement. It was more than words could describe that I felt on the brink of crying. "I've seen enough. FENRIR! Come and commence the beheading." Laurence broke his gaze and turned once more towards the King. "W-what?! I TOLD YOU THE TRUTH!" The King looked completely outraged. "You can't fool me. I saw that look in your eye. Even though you aren't her lover, you are a threat to their relationship. I will not have this. Let the execution begin!"
1443 words. I hope you guys don't hate me.
