Part 12- A new family bond

Shadow walked through the frozen forest, the snow below him cold to the touch. He passed the trees and icicles hanging from the branches, taking in the view as he walked. He was unaware of where he was; the last thing he remembered was the unbearable pain of his own greatsword cutting into him.
He walked along the path before seeing Two Pokemon ahead. Upon close inspection, they appeared to be his parents.
"Mother? Father?"
He asked, approaching them.
"Shadow? It's really you!"
He mother shouted, embracing him.
"Mother- I missed you so much!"
He said to her, crying tears of joy.
Shadow's father, the former emperor, patted his son on the shoulder.
"Father! I missed you as well- you were such a big inspiration to me, all of my life!"
He then embraced his father.
"It's good to see you again, my boy. We can't tell you how happy we are to see you again. We've been waiting for this day for over 17 years."
His father replied.
"Waiting?"
Shadow asked.
"Yes- we've waited in this dimension for almost 20 years to finally see you again, and now you're here."
Shadow could hardly believe what he was hearing.
"I really hope I never have to leave you again. You mean so much to me- I don't know what I'd do without you."
His father smiled at him.
"I don't think we'll be separated again. There isn't a reason why we would ever be."
Shadow smiled at that.
"So, where am I? I'm not entirely sure I know."
"That's not something we can tell you, my son. That is something you must figure out for yourself."
It took him a moment to realise.
"So... That means I'm really dead?"
His mother embraced him again.
"I'm sorry, shadow. It's true."
Shadow was shocked at first, but he quickly recovered from it.
"And what of my son? What will happen to him without me?"
"He's being raised by the very Pokemon who killed you."
His father replied.
"The general?"
He asked, shocked.
"Well, in some ways that may be a good thing... At least he won't repeat my mistakes."
Shadow said solemnly.
"Don't worry, my boy. He'll be taken care of, and we'll meet him here when he grows old. He's in safe hands. Don't let it trouble you."
His mother told him.
"Yes, I think you're right. Xavier was the one who freed me from my Anger filled body and let me meet you again. I think he'll raise my son well, and I'm glad he is."
Shadow embraced both of his parents.
"I'm really glad I got to see you again."
He then looked onward at his son.
"Take care of him Xavier... For all of us."

With that, the three began to walk down the path, talking about the things that had happened before they arrived there. Meanwhile, Zorua and Xavier were getting along very well, and it would soon be time for Zorua to evolve and start training. There was no telling what the future held for the small Pokemon, but one thing was certain- he wasn't afraid to find out.
