16.
Yashvi woke up to the sound of something falling and yawned as she stretched. She reached out for her husband, only to find the other side of the bed empty. Confused, she sat up and looked around, discovering her husband dressed in a dark blue shirt and beige pants, searching for something.
"Are you going somewhere this early in the morning?" she asked, stifling a yawn, which startled him, causing a file to slip from his hand.
"I need to visit a piece of land on the outskirts for a semiconductor factory development, and then I have a meeting," he explained, offering her a smile. The room was still dark, as he hadn't opened the heavy curtains on the balcony door. The only light came from a small lamp in the library.
She yawned and checked her phone; it was barely half-past five in the morning. Sighing, she got up, headed to the bathroom, and brushed her teeth. Wearing a long shrug over her silk tank top, she returned to the bedroom.
"When are you leaving? Are you going alone?" she asked, walking toward him, noticing his eyes were fixed on his tablet.
"Adarsh will accompany me. We have about an hour left. I needed to review the details of the land," he explained, glancing at the room's clock and yawning himself, which made her chuckle.
She left the room and made her way to the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, she prepared some poha and salad sandwiches, filling a lunchbox for both brothers. She also included some leftover chutney from the previous day. After preparing tea and pouring it into a thermos bottle, she chopped up some fruit and packed them too. Still yawning, she grabbed a lunch bag and placed everything inside, including a water bottle, disposable cups, spoons, and a packet of bhujia.
With the bag in her hand, she walked out to see both brothers in a deep conversation as Adarsh was explaining something to Advik who was nodding.
"Good morning, Adarsh," Yashvi greeted, sitting beside her husband and setting the lunch bag aside. "It has your breakfast and tea. I've also chopped some fruits; have them too," she said, stifling a yawn as she glanced at her husband's phone. It had barely taken her half an hour.
"You didn't need to, Bhabhi. You should have slept. It's Monday today. You have to go to the office too," Adarsh said with concern, making Yashvi smile. She leaned on her husband's shoulder, and he caressed her arm.
"Go back to the room, Yashvi. You can sleep some more," Advik insisted, but she declined, making him shake his head in disbelief.
"I'm fine," she replied, but she immediately squealed as her husband picked her up, carrying her towards the stairs. She wriggled in his arms, but it only made him tighten his hold on her as he proceeded to their room. Adarsh watched the couple with a smile and returned to his laptop, engrossed in his work.
He playfully kicked open their bedroom door and deposited her on the bed. Yashvi frowned at his antics and shot him a glare, to which he responded with a charming smile. Leaning in, he gently caressed her cheeks and gave her a sweet kiss on her lips.
"You're becoming quite audacious," she remarked with a rosy blush, which only made him chuckle. He held her hand, kissing her knuckles, and then advised her, "You should get some rest. You're wearing yourself out early in the morning."
After tenderly patting her forehead and placing a gentle kiss on her lips, he left the room. Yashvi sighed, realizing that her husband had once again plunged into his workaholic mode, something she had only heard about. The absence of a morning flower didn't go unnoticed, and a wistful smile crossed her face.

"Attention everyone, we have a meeting with the CEO, Mr. Advik Mehrotra, and Executive Chairman, Mr. Alok Mehrotra, in the main building in half an hour. Get ready," the head, Vijay Sinha, announced as he entered the laboratory located one floor above where Yashvi worked.
It was just twelve in the afternoon, and she was inside the laboratory with her department colleagues. She found herself in a bad mood and couldn't quite pinpoint the reason, but she recalled the conversations from yesterday, which gave her an idea of what the meeting was about.
"Do you have any idea what it's about?" Amrit, her colleague, asked, but Yashvi simply shook her head in denial.
A mocking voice then chimed in, "Isn't he your husband?" It was Nandini, one of her colleagues, with a tone that grated on Yashvi's nerves. Yashvi shot her a disapproving glance.
"He is my husband, not my personal news ticker, Nandini. And when speaking to me, I suggest you mind your tone. Basic manners, remember?" Yashvi retorted firmly.
Nandini responded with a sarcastic tone, "What are you going to do, complain to your husband?"
Yashvi couldn't help but reply, "I have no interest in engaging with someone as childish as you. Please excuse me."
Her friend Rishika, who had been quietly observing, gave Nandini a stern look as Yashvi turned away. Yashvi had no desire to become entangled in office politics, but Nandini and her friends constantly pushed her buttons, using her marriage to Advik as fodder for mockery and taunts.
"I am fine." Yashvi replied with a gentle smile to her friend and returned her focus to testing the robotic device.

Yashvi and her team made their way to a meeting room in the main building, joining the AI department who were already gathered. Although there were still ten minutes until the meeting, their department head was eager to ensure they were punctual and didn't leave a negative impression. Yashvi couldn't help but roll her eyes at the haste.
Yashvi took her seat between Amrit and Rishika, and a man arrived with documents containing the meeting agenda, distributing them to all the attendees.
A few minutes later, Advik entered the meeting room with his secretary Aman following closely behind. He settled himself at the front of the room, having already discarded his coat and rolled up his shirt sleeves to his elbows. He looked quite weary. After glancing around the room, his eyes eventually fell on Yashvi, but she quickly averted her gaze. Advik controlled his smile and focused on the documents in front of him.
Yashvi, on the other hand, couldn't hide her irritation when she noticed some women from the AI department stealing glances at her husband. She glared at him, but he seemed unaware as he engaged in conversation with Aman. When Alok, Advik's uncle, arrived, the meeting officially commenced.
Advik felt the intensity of his wife's glares throughout the meeting, though he couldn't figure out the reason. She appeared quite upset with him. When it was his turn to speak, he stood up, but Yashvi shot him a fierce glare. He let out a sigh, removed his hands from the table, and buttoned up his sleeves.
After an hour, the meeting concluded with both teams receiving a two-week timeline for planning. Yashvi exited the meeting room and paused when she heard her name being called. She awkwardly looked around as both teams ceased their discussions, turning their attention to the CEO, who was holding Yashvi's wrist.
"It's lunchtime now. Is it alright if she joins you a bit later?" Advik asked, glancing at Vijay and then around the room, where everyone was murmuring amongst themselves, watching the scene with curiosity. Yashvi, feeling rather embarrassed, quickly pulled her hand back, which caused Advik to frown.
Vijay glanced at Yashvi, misinterpreting her embarrassment as discomfort. Yashvi, realizing this, shook her head to indicate that it wasn't an issue.
"Sir, he is my husband, Advik Mehrotra, and Advik, he is Mr. Vijay Sinha, our department head," Yashvi introduced the two men.
"Okay, then we'll leave," Vijay said with a smile and departed.
"Maa sent your lunch here," Advik said, stepping closer and tucking Yashvi's hair behind her ear. However, Yashvi pulled away, her eyes darting around nervously.
"Let's take the elevator," Yashvi suggested as she moved towards it. However, she stopped when she noticed he wasn't following her.
Advik gestured to the VIP elevator and said, "Let's take that one." He seemed a bit puzzled by her mood but didn't grasp the reason behind it.
"Are you upset with me?" Advik asked, a frown creasing his brow, as he watched Yashvi sitting on the sofa, engrossed in her phone.
"I am not." She said in a plain tone, giving her attention to her phone. He rubbed his face with frustration and called a peon to laid the food.
Yashvi glanced at the food with a sideways look and swallowed hard. She was extremely hungry, having not eaten much for breakfast. It was the first time since their marriage that Advik wasn't there for breakfast, and she couldn't eat as heartily as she was used to.
"What's wrong, Yashvi? You've been here for ten minutes and haven't said a word," Advik inquired, trying to control his frustration after the peon had left the room.
"I'm hungry. Let's eat," Yashvi replied, her voice quiet. Advik gave her a glare and sat next to her, serving both of them. The spread included roti, dal, karela, rice, aloo methi, curd, and salad.
"Thank you," she whispered, looking at him. He avoided eye contact and served some dal in his bowl.
They ate in silence, neither of them speaking a word. Yashvi found it difficult to swallow her food, her eyes welling up with tears. She didn't understand why she was angry, but she felt a weight on her heart.
"You didn't like me holding your hand in front of everyone?" Advik asked, his voice low, as he glanced at Yashvi, who came out after washing her hands. She couldn't deny it, because it was partially true. She had seen everyone looking her way, and now understood that she was going to be the topic of gossip for the week.
Not hearing her denial, he felt a churn inside.
"You are my wife, Yashvi. I married you with all the rituals. I didn't know that holding your hand would embarrass you," he said, shoving his hands in his pockets and walking towards his table. She could clearly feel the hurt in his voice, and she facepalmed herself.
"It's for you," he said, handing her a bouquet of daisies, and a genuine smile bloomed on her face. She kept the bouquet aside and hugged him tight, wrapping her arms around his.
He kept his right palm on the table behind him to steady himself, his other hand holding her against him. A small smile crept upon his lips, realizing the flowers might have been the reason for her sour mood.
"I can never be embarrassed of you, Advik. You are my pride," she whispered, placing her face in the crook of his neck, making him smile wide.
"In the same way, you are my pride, love. You were glaring at me throughout the meeting, you know how tough it was," he said, drawing random patterns on her clothed back, making her smile.
"It was your fault. The women there were checking you out. I didn't like it a single bit," she said with a frown, trying to break the hug, but he only tightened it.
"How does it even matter when my eyes will stop at nothing but you?" he said huskily, making her smile as he broke the hug and cupped her cheeks, pecking over her nose and forehead. She smiled, leaning towards him and kissing him lightly on his lips.
"You didn't give me flowers in the morning," she said with a pout, which made him laugh.
"I know, that's why I got this bouquet for my wife. I don't do it out of a sense of duty or something, Yashvi. I do it because I feel happy seeing the smile on your face," he said, glancing at the daisies and then at her. She chuckled, cupping his face, pecking over his throat. Taking the flowers and her belongings, she was out of his cabin in a few seconds, making him laugh.
She came back to her work place, a smile etched on her face and kept the bouquet aside. Her eyes fell on the note hidden beneath and she immediately pulled it out.
"You are my waking thought, my sweet dream and everything in between<3"
He had cutely scribbled in his messy handwriting and made a heart at the end, making her chuckle. She gently kissed the note and kept it securely in her handbag. Amrit gave her a teasing smile, which she chose to ignore. He smiled to himself, looking at her. He had rarely seen Yashvi letting go of her walls, and it felt nice to see a genuine smile on her face.
"Done with your lunch date, Mrs. Mehrotra." She heard the teasing voice of Rishita who came back and looked at the flower bouquet before smirking at her.
"Yes, Ms. Goyal," Yashvi replied, giving her a side-eye as she turned her computer on, going back to her work. Rishita chuckled, finding Yashvi's unresponsive tone amusing as she settled into her seat.
