Ch. 2

"Owl me Draco, and talk to the head girl. Don't shut yourself out please. You should give her a chance and be civil with her. Goodbye."

Draco nodded, "bye mum."

The four Slytherins got on the train along with other seventh years. The train was exclusively for them.

The heads and prefects had their own place in the front. Theo and Draco strolled over with another Slytherin they've never seen. She was short with round glasses and black hair. A background Slytherin they never saw.

As they got to the front they saw Susan from hufflepuff with another person they didn't know. Then there was Ginny and Dean from Gryffindor. Finally Luna and some other guy.

"Look mate loony is here." Draco chuckles, "have fun. I'm going to see if the head girl is the insufferable bookworm."

"Don't get hexed badly!" Theo yelled after his friend before going to sit with the other prefects.

"Hello Theodore" a dreamy voice greeted him after a lot of people just said his last name acknowledging him.

"Lovegood." He said to acknowledge her before sitting in the far end away from others.

Hermione sat patiently waiting for the head boy to arrive. She was hoping that he would be nice or at least civil so when she saw Draco come in she frowned.

"Malfoy? You're the head boy?!"

"Fancy seeing you here too Granger." He scoffed sitting down in front of her.

"Great" she murmured sarcastically.

He thought about what his mother said and sighed, "I'm going to do you a favour and go with Theo because it's clear you don't want me here." He scurried off before she could think of anything to say.

The first thing Draco saw as he entered where the prefects were sitting at was Theo sitting alone reading a book. He smirked as he saw that it was the book he got when he was walking up to loony. "You can actually read?"

Theo shot him a deathly glare before returning to the book. "Did Granger kick you out?"

"No I left because her presence is intoxicating. I don't understand how she has friends." Draco scoffed as he sat down. "Why are you reading that book anyways?"

"I was bored but this interesting. Did you know that they make your brain fuzzy and you can get rid of them by thinking positive thoughts?" Theo closed the book ones he was finished with it.

"I don't care" Draco mumbled.

"Hello Theodore, hello Draco. I suppose you are the head boy, am I right Draco?" Draco nodded carefully at Luna.

Theo noticed the cork hanging from her necklace, "Lovegood, why do you have that necklace?"

"Keeps away the Nargles, they infest mistletoe." Luna gave him a smile.

"Oh well alright." He waited for Luna to leave before talking again to his friend that just stare at him the whole time. "What?" he asked with a scowl on his face.

"Loony is what." Draco smirked at his friend's reaction when he said that. Theo had looked away biting his lip.

"Well anyway, I want to try for the Quidditch team" Theo informed trying to change the conversation.

"You do know that you actually need to know how to ride a broom for that."

"Whatever Draco, I'm better at riding than you are. That came out wrong but I'm better at it still." Theo smirked as Draco rolled his eyes.

Soon they arrived at Hogwarts and they were the last to get off the train.

"What are those bloody creatures?!" Theo asked pointing at the animals pulling the carriage that waited for them.

"Those are thestrals." A dreamy voice answered from the carriage. "Everyone that had seen death can see them."

"Lovegood why the hell are you still here?" Draco asked annoyed by her constant presence.

"I thought I saw a nargles on the train and told Hermione and Ginny to go ahead." Luna explained dismissing his annoyance.

"Shut up and get in mate, I'm hungry and I can already taste the food from here that is waiting for us." Theo pushed Draco in the carriage.

It was a quiet ride which Draco didn't mind because he thought that if he heard Luna's voice during the trajectory to Hogwards he would jump off the carriage. Once they finally got to Hogwards they walked into the Great Hall and all three were surprised to see how much it changed.

The big rectangular house tables were gone and small round tables and booths replaced them instead. Draco and Theo were annoyed by the change but Luna seemed very pleased but then the two slytherins spotted their two friends sitting in the biggest booth and smirked. The both strolled over to them and sat down getting a feel for their new place.

"Students!"McGonagal yelled once she knew everyone was present. "You may have noticed that there is a big change in this place because if not I'm worried about you. The battle made all of us realize that house pride and separation can lead to the worst so to change that you all are free to sit wherever you like. Now that I have said that tomorrow the other students will come back and I'll inform them of this. I know we've suffered a lot of deaths because of the battle but know this, the ones we love never really leave us. Remember them fondly and remember the good times with them so they can always live in our hearts. I would like to introduce you to our head girl, Ms. Granger if you could please stand up." Cheer rowed from all the houses except slytherins as she stood up. "and our head boy, Mr. Malfoy, please stand up." This time only slytherins cheered for him as he rose from his seat. "And with that, let the feast begin."

Food appeared on every single table and the students began to dig in. Theo kept stealing glances at the beautiful blonde Ravenclaw sitting with her friends laughing. He was attracted to her weirdness and acceptance. Theo knew other girls would only be nice to him to get him to shag them, he wasn't complaining but he was never truly accepted after the war. He also couldn't get the image of her in muggle clothes.

Draco on the other hand was avoiding looking at anyone and instead looked at his food. The thing was that looking at his food made him sick. He finally decided on grabbing a big green apple and taking a big bite out of it tasting the wonderful taste of the apple.

Once the feast ended McGonagal asked for Draco and Hermione to follow her to the Head's room whilst she explained of their responsibilities. "Lemom Drops" she said and the portrait opened to their dorm.

Hermione explored around noticing a bookcase in the corner. Then she went to check out the restroom where she saw a bathtub and a shower. Everything seemed great for her. On the other hand, Draco walked in to find a room filled with both their house colors everywhere. Then he noticed the door with his house crest and walked into it finding a room filled with green and silver. He only went out to do his night duties with Hermione and other prefects and then he returned to his room. He instantly fell asleep when his head touched the pillow forgetting to put silencing spells up.

Hours late he woke up screaming from the top of his lungs. His nightmare this time was about Hermione getting tortured by his aunt and his mom getting shot with the death curse by the dark lord while his own dad tortured him.

Hermione came instantly to his room, "WHY DID YOU SCREAM MALFOY?!"

"IT WAS NOT INTENTIONAL GRANGER" anger got the worst of him but he quickly controlled himself. "Sorry" he whispered.

Hermione stared at him confused, "whatever just go back to sleep."

Draco shot upfront his bed grabbing her wrist.

"Malfoy let me go now!" She tried get put of his grasp but failed miserably.

"No, I need to talk to you. Please." His eyes were directed at hers, it took a moment but she sighed and nodded. She slowly sat down on the bed as he sat on the opposite end. "I'm sorry." He murmured.

"Why?"

He sighed deeply, "I'm sorry for waking you up and probably hurting your wrist. I'm also sorry about calling you mudblood and because of what my aunt did to you. I know you won't believe me but I never intended for that to happen. I thought that if I didn't say who you guys were then nothing would've happened to you. I didn't want to become one of them, my dad made me and part of me knew I had to because I had to protect my mother, she's the only one that has really cared about me and-"

"Draco breathe" Hermione interrupted him. She scooted closer to him feeling guilty for treating him like a monster. Hermione faced him looking at a tear rolling down his cheek and decided to not to comment on it, she just whipped it away. Silence washed over them until Hermione talked again. "I get where you're coming from, I mean, I had to obl-"

"I know. They're in the hospital and I overheard people talking about muggles named Granger. I was there because of my mom, she had to go because she was hurt. My fa-, Lucius hurt her when he was trying to escape from the aurors and saw her helping them." He sighed looking over at her warm brown eyes.

"It's getting quite late, we should umm go to sleep." Hermione said still looking at his stormy grey eyes. "Wait umm what was your nightmare about? If I can know."

"I rather not talk about it." Draco looked down at the bed avoiding her eyes. She scooted even closer to him giving him a small hug before leaving him.

Draco got up closing the door after she had left. He had tried fighting his tears when he was talking but he failed miserably. Malfoys don't cry he kept telling himself.

He lazily crawled back into bed putting silencing charms around his room before falling into his deep slumber.
