Chapter 41
"Hurricane, listen," Firestorm growled, setting Wildfire down on the ground. "Wildfire is most likely going to get killed if she goes back home. Father keeps his promises and I don't want to see her death. You're probably going to be attacked next since you tried to defy him at the Tribe of Shining Suns."
"What about you?" she asked, breaking the silence. "You, Blizzard, and Lightning. You don't have Tsunami anymore and you want me to take Wildfire." She shook her head, prodding the unconscious she-cat. "I can't take her with me."
"Hurricane, you know what will happen if she goes back there," Blizzard protested, pushing her sister forward. "I'm not strong enough to fight Father in this condition. Maybe once I'm healed and get my strength back, but right now I can't do anything. If I knew that she'd be entirely safe if I die, I'd gladly do so, but if she's still going to die regardless, I want to be there to protect her." The silver she-cat rolled Wildfire on her side, exposing the wound on her shoulder.
Her own injuries rushed back to claim her. Hurricane was grateful that the she-cat didn't run into a cat like Arrow but she still remained at risk running around the battle and assisting anyone who needed it. Healing her wouldn't take too long; all that she needed to do was search around for the correct herbs and then start tending herself. The only herb locations she knew for a fact were in the Tribe of Shining Suns. With Origanum's death, she'd have a little bit of time before the spies and scouters were sent out to collect more herbs.
Then again, there had to be herb locations in the Tribe of Roaming Spirit's territory. Hurricane didn't know if Python had already forced cats to go on patrol and gather as many as they could hold - that is if he cared enough to heal his tribe. Depending on the cat she ran into, she did have a chance of wiggling away if it was a cat like Wasp. She'd have to hide Wildfire and if the patrol spotted the golden she-cat, would they take her back just for her to die or would they remain quiet?
"I just... I can't take her with me," Hurricane declared. "I don't know where to go. I can't go on the left or right because that's your territory."
Lightning exchanged a look with Firestorm. The two toms nodded, sharing a smirk and the golden tom spoke.
"Do you really think we can patrol the entire left side of the territory?" he joked, a sly grin signaling he had a plan. "No, our cats would get tired of it eventually. I'm sure the tribe cats face the same situation. You can't patrol the entire territory in one day. There's a high chance that you might find free-roaming cats; cats who aren't perfect or imperfect."
Hurricane stayed quiet, questioning why the idea didn't come to her earlier. Of course there has to be other cats in this world! The Tribe of Shining Suns doesn't own the entire world! They only go so far and then turn back... She went still, facing the fact once again. Rogues killed Tsunami, but they weren't in the Tribe of Shining Suns or Roaming Spirits. The thought of other cats living in the same world and not knowing anything about the two tribes was surprising. Then again, they could know about them and just refuse to get involved.
Can my plan work out? Could I gather enough cats to start my own rebellion and get rid of the Tribe of Shining Suns? Hurricane felt her heart race, new steps falling into her head as her mind continued thinking ahead.
Lightning snickered at her. "I can't believe you didn't think of that."
"Hey, I was busy worrying about other things," she argued. Her face dropped, knowing what they would want. "I still can't take Wildfire with me. There's an even amount of good and bad cats out there. What if I run into a group of bad cats like the ones that caused Tsuanmi's death or like the ones that ganged up on her that day? I'm in no shape to fight back. I'd love to save her from her death but I can't take her."
"Then what do we do? I'm not letting my sister die!" Firestorm growled. "Is there anywhere we could hide her for the time being?"
"Maybe one of us has to go with Hurricane," Blizzard suggested. "Think about it. If she travels toward the border and lives outside, she does risk running into cats like those rogues that took Tsunami away from us. It's true that she isn't in proper fighting condition, but if one of us goes, it boosts her chance of survival and healing Wildfire."
"Okay," Lightning growled. "Who wants to go? You know the moment when one of us doesn't arrive Father's going to order his cats to hunt us down and kill them. He's already shown us that he doesn't care for us. Our deaths won't matter to him."
"Yet all of our mother's deaths hurt him," Firestorm growled. Hurricane blinked, her mind tracing back to her father, Sabertooth.
It had never bothered her that she didn't have a father in her life. Dandelion was the only cat she wanted as a parent and Sabertooth had died before Arrow was born. She would always see him doing tribe duties and rarely spent time with her.
Then she stopped.
That... That doesn't even add up. Unless Dandelion had another mate. Arrow, Serval, and Cardinal were born at two completely different times... There's no way she only had one and the other stayed inside. She must've had another mate... Hurricane frowned, heart rate increasing.
"Worry about it later," her mind begged. "Worrying about it now while you're still injured isn't going to do you any good."
"Which one of us is going with her or are we thinking of another plan?" Lightning growled, breaking the silence. Hurricane shoved her curiosity away.
"I'll go with her." Hurricane jumped when she saw a golden tom emerge from the bushes with a small, white apprentice with three legs behind him. Her eyes lit and she rushed over to the she-cat, holding her close. Wasp purred, seeing the two reunited. Lightning looked away from the three of them and back to his siblings.
Wasp glanced at the Storm Siblings. "I can go. It doesn't matter if Python wants me dead. Summit and I swore our alliance to her when she was allowed a team. I want to keep that promise," he murmured, eyes warming Hurricane. Firestorm dug his claws into the ground, upset that a cat was spying on them.
Snow bounced in her embrace, her purring flooding her ears. "Back!" She chirped like a bird, pulling away and doing a small spin, twirling on her three legs. "I'm going!"
"That solves that," Blizzard said. "But what's going to happen to us?"
"I'm trying to end this mess over perfection and imperfection," Hurricane explained to the group. "If there's a chance there are other cats out there, I'm sure they've heard of the tribes. If they haven't, I'm shocked. My best guess is that those who do know about the tribes, some probably are sick of them. There might even be a rebellion going on right now that I don't know of. I want to end this so that we don't have to worry about mistakes."
"That's nice, but do you know how long that's going to take?" Lightning questioned. "It sounds like it's going to take much longer than just a few moons."
"I'll... I'll think of something! Don't worry about it! I promise to get this over with as quickly as I can. I want the kits at the Training Den to live in a world that isn't separated by imperfection and perfection," Hurricane stated, making a goal in mind.
"Then why don't you go with her, Lightning?" Blizzard added, shoving her younger brother forward, who stumbled on his weakened paws. "You seem eager to help her."
"To be honest, I think Lightning really wants to go with you," Wasp joked and was instantly tackled by an injured Storm Sibling. The tom laughed as Lightning tried to explain his way out of the conversation. "What are you looking at me for? You're the one who spoke up!"
"How does that mean I want to go?! Besides, I'm still injured from the battle! I can't handle another swarm of rogues with her!" he protested, looking at Firestorm to dig him out of the ditch.
"Not too sure, then. Also, you forgot I'm coming with you," Wasp noted, sounding hurt. "I'm injured too because Maple hits hard over the head." The Imperfect flicked his ear and rubbed his head and Hurricane imagined seeing her older sister slam the tom in front of her over and over to the ground. For some reason, she saw the image clearly.
"So what? We use the power of friendship to solve every battle?" Lightning demanded, rolling his eyes. "That isn't going to save you. We're all walking with our necks out in the open here. Besides, Hurricane and I are like sibl---" He cut himself short but his older sister caught on, blue eyes lighting up.
"Aha!" Blizzard pounced. "You finally admitted you see Hurricane as a sibling! You're the last one, by the way. Even Tsunami accepted her as a sibling before you. Remember that, dear brother." Lightning growled, flattening his ears. "Maybe you should go with them since all of this connects together so well."
"No! I have Sheer to deal wit---"
"Excuse me, Lightning, but I can handle myself perfectly without you around." Sheer stepped out of the bushes and Lightning hissed at his appearance. "I'm not a kit and don't need anyone watching over my shoulder. I can deal with whatever Python throws at me."
"And what if it's death? I already lost Owl!" Lightning demanded, lashing his tail. "I never said I would agree to this!"
"If Python kills me, it shows that I'm stronger than him because he's acting on his rage," Sheer responded. With that, the white tom slipped back into the forest, giving him the last word of the sentence. Lightning cursed and almost followed after the ally but Hurricane put her tail in front of him, stopping him.
"How many cats exactly are watching us? Lizard, Scarlet, if you're out there, get out," Firestorm demanded. Sheer's laugh was the only sound that emitted from the forest.
"So, you're coming with us?" Wasp asked, who jumped out of the way when Lightning lashed out. "Sure! Let's have your brother join us, Hurricane! We gotta bring Snow with us as well! And don't forget about Wildfire! Wow, your plan is already off to a great start!" Hurricane couldn't help herself but laugh as Lightning grew impatient.
"No! She's not my sister---"
"But you're the only one who was able to help Hurricane out when she was planning! You really should go with her, you know. You two would make an awesome rebellion," Wasp joked and let out a yelp when Lightning bit him in the ear. "Ouch!"
"Shut up! I didn't mean it like that!" Lightning protested. Hurricane stared at the two toms, something in her mind telling her that the two shared some kind of history. She decided to save it for later, along with her questions about Arrow, Serval, and Cardinal's birth.
Her laughter died down and she looked at them, warmth flooding in her eyes. Taking Wasp and Snow with me is dangerous, but adding Wildfire and Lightning is going to cause trouble. I don't think bringing Wildfire with me is the smartest move. If anything, Blizzard could bring her back and say she's dead. She'd be forced to stay silent, but that would save her life until she could get up and walk again.
"Blizzard, do you think you could fake Wildfire's death?" She explained her plan up to the smallest detail to them. Although worried, she nodded very slowly, eyeing her brothers. Firestorm and her looked at one another before agreeing to her plan.
"We're trusting you," Firestorm growled, taking back the golden she-cat. "If she dies---"
"I know there's a chance she'll die. At least over there, she has Butterfly and you guys to protect her if things go wrong. No matter how strong Python is, I'm sure that he can't handle three cats. Also, I'm sure that Scarlet, Lizard, and Poplar would all gladly fight for you. That makes six against one," she described and Blizzard nodded, following.
"And you're taking me along?" Lightning demanded. "Your Alpha defeated me within the first wave." He rubbed his paw against his chest, revealing the bloody fur from Origanum's claws.
Hurricane flinched at the wounds but continued. "Yes, I'll take Wasp, Snow, and you with me to start out."
"Why me?!"
"You're on the chopping block with Python. We all are. I know that you disobeyed him way before this battle started because you refused to kill Wildfire. I don't know if he remembers it. Even if you did try to fight, you'd wear yourself out and end up dead."
"And Wildfire can go back?!"
"She's knocked out and even though she's wild and hyper, she can play dead a lot better than you. You'll blow your cover and besides, you weren't in critical condition like she was," she argued, hoping that the tom would see her reasons. Lightning muttered something under his breath but didn't complain any longer.
"Is that okay with you guys?" Hurricane asked, facing the group. Blizzard walked close to her and embraced her, tail curling around her own tail. On her back, she felt the old scars that the silver cat had given her moons ago give a faint sting.
"Hurricane, I do love you as if you were my real sister," Blizzard purred, staying close for a little bit longer. "Please, come back."
"Promise," she weakly responded.
Firestorm didn't embrace her like Blizzard, but he did give her a swift nod. "Look after my brother," he said. "Make sure he doesn't kill himself doing something stupid." Lightning let out a moan, no longer having the strength or energy to fight back against the comments. Wasp did his best to contain his laughter.
"Yeah, I'll try," Hurricane said, glancing at the other tom.
"I guess I don't have a choice, I'm going with you, aren't I?" Lightning sighed, dragging his paws forward.
"Yep," she answered, touching noses with him playfully and Wasp broke out in laughter.
"Hurricane loves Lightning. Who knew?" She noted bluntly and bounced away before Lightning of Hurricane snap at the runt. Snow danced away, clinging onto Wasp's side, her amber eyes staring at the Imperfect lovingly.
"You four," Blizzard said. "Come back alive. I'll gladly join you, so will Wildfire once she's better. It doesn't matter how long it will take. Maybe if you're lucky, I can sneak Poplar with me. I'm sure Midnight would join your reason if she was still alive, too." Her eyes flashed with sadness when she mentioned her friend's name.
"Hurricane, you do realize that this might fail, right?" warned Firestorm. "You do have a good reason, but there's always the chance it'll fail. You are willing to take that risk?"
Hurricane thought about the question for a moment. Am I ready? I'm not even entirely sure this is going to work out... It's built on the fact we have to escape if we want any chance of survival.
"It sounds like you're the one pulling the strings."
Hurricane brushed away the doubt, facing her adoptive brother with new confidence. It flared in her chest and ignited her hope, quickening her heartbeat. A smile cracked on her face, the words tumbling out of her mouth before her mind could keep up at the ever-growing pace.
"Yes, it's true that I might fail. I know things aren't going to turn out exactly as I planned, but I'm ready to face the mistakes I'll make because I'm imperfect."
