Chapter Two: Painful Memories
Tyler drove back home after school. Today was unusually strange for him. The new girl seemed to be his biggest thought for the day. This was the first time he couldn't read someone's mind. Lara herself acted strange in school. She talked to no one and minded her own business. She immediately became a freak to the popular kids in school, not because of her character, but because of her infected city, Riversdale. What the principal said in school was true. Riversdale was infected and it inhabitants had turned into monsters.
The story of Riversdale could be termed as an interesting one. The city was once a powerful kingdom that built the strongest wall in history. No army, no matter how powerful it was, could penetrate this wall. It gave the people joy everyday. The wall still stood firm even during the World Wars, which gave it more honour than before. It still stood till today, which made the whole world pleased because it was now extremely useful. The mindless citizens roamed the streets like wild animals day and night. The wall was the only thing that kept them trapped inside. The U.S. Government secured the city and watched over it everyday. The only thing that prevented them from blowing it up was the chance of finding any survivour, of which Lara was the only survivour they found. They had sponsored her education in Tyler's school and let her stay with a woman named Ashley. Tyler had managed to gather much information about her from the files in the principal's office. He decided to be her friend so as to get more information about her and her infected city.

Jugsty was already at home, making lunch for his brother. He dropped out of school so that he could finance his brother's school fees. This had been going on for two years now and he didn't mind working to earn food for him and his brother. Whenever he was less busy or came back from work early, he would read some of Tyler's notes which he didn't carried to school. Because of that, he was also sound in education despite being a drop out.
He looked at a picture of his family held in a frame. Tears came out slowly from his eyes. He knew his father wasn't always an addict of science. He wondered what happened to the wonderful dad who made his children understood how their powers work. He recalled how they first got their powers.
Five years old Tyler and nine years old Jugsty were playing baseball some metres away from their house. Their parents were watching their favourite television show. His father checked the time and decided to call his children in. He stood up from the couch, went to the front door, opened it and said to them," Boys its time to sleep".
" Okay dad", they both replied.
" Tyler, go get the ball over there", said Jugsty to Tyler.
" Okay brother", replied Tyler.
Tyler picked up the ball, looked at the sky and saw a blue comet. He gazed at it and yelled," Look! Its a blue comet!".
" Blue comet?", asked their father. He looked up and saw that the comet had enter the lower atmosphere and accelerated towards his children.
" Tyler! Jugsty! Run!", yelled their father.
" Tyler!", yelled Jugsty who ran with all his strength towards his brother.
Too late.
The comet hit Tyler right above him. The blast also hit Jugsty too. Their father dragged them out and discovered that only Jugsty sustained minor injuries while Tyler wasn't harmed at all. The comet which originally glowed blue was now as normal as a space rock. Their mother helped him carried them back to the house.
Their dad did his best to lie to the government officials when he was questioned about the comet. They had the comet taken to their base for experiments and ceased from bothering him. This gave their dad the opportunity to discover their powers and teach them how to use them. He had however begged them not to use their powers until the time was right.
A knock was heard on the door. Jugsty wiped off his tears and proceeded to open the door. To his surprise, it wasn't Tyler.
