Chapter 26: The Survival Games: Survival of the fittest
Note: Finally uploading again! This book is definitely getting some action going! Again, the death count is at the end, as well as who died, who killed them and how many are alive.
Mexxy's POV
So this was why Ridge enjoyed the survival games...it had no dull points-there was always something going on. The entertainment never stopped...watching loved ones plot to kill each other, urging people to fall into traps, laughing as someone was caught unexpectedly by an arrow or a sword in the throat...I needed to hold these more often.
"Exciting, isn't it?" a voice murmurs behind me. "Indeed" I reply. The sun was beginning to come up, casting a warm glow across the world. I smiled-I owned the sun. I owned the moon. And I owned all these pathetic little lives below me. Of course, they never worshipped me like the God I was.
"Enjoying it?" the voice says again, the figure joining me. "So far. But I think...I think a little entertainment is in order..." I smirk, glancing at him.
Deamon grins back, nodding. "I can sort that out for you" he chuckles.
I turn back to the balcony, sighing as I lean over. "The sun is beginning to rise-I should get back before they realize I am missing" Deamon sighs, before taking off into the air and turning invisible. Soon he would be back with his pathetic little "friends and family".
Soon they would discover the truth...
Laughter bursts out my mouth, before I can stop it, and it turns into a full fledged cackling. Oh, I loved the survival games.
Robin's POV
I felt something shift beside me and I stirred groaning. I opened my eyes against the sun's dim glow, and smiled when I saw Deamon next to me. He opened his eyes slowly, turning to smile at me. "Morning, beautiful" he purrs, kissing me on the forehead. I flush, leaning onto his arm. "Morning" Ridge says, and I burst into giggles. Deamon scowls at Ridge who winks back. "You're in high spirits this morning" Tia notes sleepily from Ridge's lap. "My family is here, darling, what's not to be happy about?" Dad murmurs, taking his arm off my shoulder to stroke Tia's hair. "Your family is here in a giant globe where we all need to fight to the death till one remains. I think there is a lot to not be happy about" Mum says bitterly.
"We can worry about that later. We are a team, nothing can get past us" Dad says confidently. "Only one can remain" Mum mumbles. "Not in front of the kids, hm?" Ridge whispers, though we can all hear him. Mum lapses into silence, still curled up on Ridge's lap.
"Well, we should get moving. I bet Mexxy will show who died" Deamon says, pulling away from me. I lurch after him, smiling as he picks me up effortlessly and helps me walk. We all climb outside the tree, clinging onto the branches, and sure enough, Mexxy's voice crackles on the speaker.
"Good morning everyone! Here are the fallen of yesterday..."
The first picture to appear is Kim, killed by Mitch. We were all pretty tense wondering if our friends had been killed-I hadn't gotten along well with Kim, so I was fine. Next on show was Turpz killed by Teep, and Parv killed by Lewis. It wasn't a shock that Teep had murdered someone-he usually did. But Lewis was usually so kind and wise...why did he kill someone?
The next pictures were Ryan from Team Crafted killed by Sky, which was no surprise. Sky was incredibly blood thirsty sometimes, and I hoped I wouldn't have to cross him in the dome, and then Tato killed by Panda. Panda was never usually so blood thirsty...I mean...he was a panda!
Panda killed by Ashley, Ashley killed by Nilesy, Nilesy killed by Liam-talk about revenge! Liam wasn't the type to kill people...then again he was the partner of the pvp legend, Mitch-I guess it had to be expected.
The pictures finished off with Trott killed by Sepia and Ravs killed by Minty, before Mexxy spoke out, "May the odds be ever in your favour. Only one can remain."
The dome went silent, except for the high pitched tweeting of birds every 5 irratating seconds. The noise of something being thrown through the air whistled to my right, and my head snapped round.
Tia darted in front of me so quick I barely had time to register anything. The sword which had been thrown at me was caught between her hands, and she hit the ground with a thud. She winced, stumbling up and looking around quickly for whoever the culprit was.
"To your right!" Ridge bellowed from the tree, and Ellis dropped down beside me, slamming his sword into something in the bush.
Boom.
"Who was it?" Tia panted, standing up before limping and hitting the ground. Ridge crawled down quickly, holding her up. "Ross from Hatfilms" Ellis says, watching the body turn into pixels. "What's wrong, Mum?" Ryan asks. "Just broken my ankles, I think" she pants, letting Ridge sling her arms round his shoulder so he could carry her. "Well, that's one of us out of the running" Deamon sighs. Tia glares at him. "I'm not dead yet" Tia snaps. "Yet" Deamon says grimly.
Ridge suddenly slides Tia onto the ground gently, taking a few steps towards Deamon. "What the hell do you mean, "yet"? he growls. "Well. only one can survive right? She said it herself. She's as good as dead in this position." Deamon sighs. Ridge steps into his face. "She will be the one who lives, mark my words" he snarls.
"Whatever. We can't carry her around, she'll slow us down" he persists. "What are you suggesting? That we leave her here to die?" Ana snaps. I step towards my Dad, glaring at Deamon. "Ridge can stay with her. They can both hide out here until Tia heals. That gives them both the best chance" Deamon says calmly.
There is a silence in the forest until Tia says, "Don't I have a say in this?" Ridge gently picks her up, glaring heavily at Deamon. "Robin and Ryan stay with us" he says harshly. "No. They have a better chance if they come with us" Deamon says. "You just said we had the best chance!" Tia yells. "You aren't in a fit state to look after them" Deamon scowls. "What did you just say?" Tia seethes.
"Enough! Robin and Ryan will come with us, Ridge will stay with Tia" Ana commands. "They are our kids, they stay with us!" Ridge roars, causing birds to flutter away. I hesitate before stepping next to Deamon. "Mum, it's fine, they will protect us. And besides, we'll get more armour" I smile, before taking Ryan's hand.
"But..." Tia whispers, reaching for me. I hug her fiercely. "Mum, we can look after ourselves, we're not kids anymore. Well, Ryan is, but I'll protect him" I promise. "Fine. Go with Deamon. You better take care of them!" she snaps at Deamon. He sighs. "Of course I will" he grunts. I walk off to Deamon with Ryan and we disappear into the forest.
Sparklez* POV
"Hey Strippin, look. It's the guy that killed Turpz" I whisper. "That dinosaur guy! Let's kill him" he whispers back. "Hold on, that mage guy is there, Rythian. We have to shoot something at the dinosaur and then run!" I whisper back. "Alright, let's go!" he grins. Grabbing my sword, I aim and throw.
The blade of the iron sword whistles through the air and by the time Rythian whips round in surprise, it's too late. The sickening crunch of the impact of hitting the dinosaur runs through my mind and I turn and run.
Boom.
"Strippin!" I pant. I whip my head side to side. "Strippin?" I repeat, slowing down. But then I remember Rythian would be chasing after me, and I keep running. The adrenaline pumped through my veins and the sharp whipping of plants smacking and cutting my skin made me wince, but I kept running. My life depended on it. And there wasn't a cannon for Strippin...yet.
I reach a small house in the woods, all crumbling dark red clay and old bricks. I slow down to a jog and open the door, looking back once. Phew-he wasn't there. But neither was Strippin.
Shivering slightly as warmer air hits me, I notice the crackling fire in the fireplace and I shut the door quietly, listening intently in case anyone else was here. Checking the fireplace, the fire had been lit on netherrack, so it could of been lit at anytime. I creep upstairs, and find there is no one there.
Descending back downstairs, I crouch next to the fire, checking left and right. It felt so scary without someone watching your back, without someone to talk to to fill the silence. It sent a lonely chill down my spine and I raise my hands up to the fire, warming them gently. I frown-what was that behind the fire?
A chest!
I hesitantly reach out, wincing as the flames dance across my skin, and I flick open the chest. Inside is a glittering golden gun, and I grin, taking it out quickly. I knew exactly what this was.
A Golden Desert Eagle.
There was a note tucked up in the small archway of the trigger. Taking it out, I unfold it and read:
Use this wisely-there is only one bullet.
I smirk. I knew exactly what I was going to do with this.
Lewis's POV
Trekking through the mountain on one side of the dome was tiring, but we knew it would be well worth it. No one would climb all this way just to get to us.
"Lewis, how far does this mountain go" Duncan groans. I squint upwards, and the edge of the mountain is so close I could almost touch it...
"We're here now, friend. Come on, just one little climb and-"
"LEWIS!"
Simon suddenly yells my name before I see the gleam of a sword and the sickening sound of flesh being torn apart. My head whips round to see SSundee finishing Simon off and the dwarven body falls off the mountain side, disappearing into pixels before it manages to hit the ground.
Boom.
"SIMON!" Hannah cries out, glancing down even though there is nothing left of him. I take in a large intake of breath. No one kills Simon. No one.
He would pay for that.
I pull myself up off the cliff face, and unsheath my diamond sword. SSundee smirks, taking out his own. I was a trained swordsman, and I knew I had to calm myself down-anger would blind me to obvious hits.
The sharp metallic clink of diamond smashing into diamond rings through the mountain side, echoing down into the valley low below. I swing over and over again, not tiring myself out, making sure I kept up my defense but at the same time tiring him out.
He begins to pant, and his attacks come slower and sluggishly. "I'm sorry, but you deserve this" I snarl, before shoving the sword into his neck and backing away quickly, shutting my eyes.
Boom.
That was the second person I had killed. One out of greed...I guess this one was for vengeance. I swallow, blinking back the tears. I wasn't a monster...he had killed Simon! Justice had been served...right?
A hand on my shoulder pulls me from my thoughts. Glancing round, Hannah smiles sadly at me. "At least it was quick" she whispers. I nod, glancing down the mountain and swallowing again-my throat had become dry. "C'mon. If Simon was here, what would he say?" Duncan said gently. I smile faintly and immitate him as best as I can. "Come on, you buggers, stop standing around and get some work done!"
We all laugh quietly, taking one last glance down the mountain, before vanishing into the trees.
Martyn's POV
"Martyn, I think we are being watched" Toby whispers. "I do too" I whisper back, huddling back towards Toby. We were in a cave beneath a mountain, and it was incredibly small and very, very cold. And wet. It was horrible, but we didn't want to go. We had everything we needed here-food, weapons, armour. All we had to do was wait.
"I'm gonna go check outside" I whisper, getting up and slowly stalking towards the entrance, taking an iron sword with me. I missed my Sapling blade, the hum of the green energy of my favourite sword, the sword which only let's the pure of heart hold. Toby had his sword, a sharp crimson red blade, which wasn't as powerful as mine, but could also only be held by the pure of heart.
I could feel him walking behind me, trembling at the tension. I sneak outside, glancing from left to right. No one was there. I slowly pull up outside. "No one is there" I say finally, slumping slightly. My sword hangs limply by my side. Toby pulls up beside me. "Phew!" he sighs, pulling forward a bit.
Then there was the sound of something shifting above me, and I spin round. It's too late.
Sips pounces forwards, slamming his sword straight into Toby's head.
Boom.
"NO!" I yell, watching him slump to the floor, blood pouring out of his head.
Sips smirks, and I wipe it off as I raise my Sapling blade in my hands and slam it right into his head.
Boom.
I cry out, sinking to my knees. I couldn't protect him. I vowed that I would protect him. I promised him!
The Sapling blade, the blade that can only be held by the pure of heart, turns to dust in my hands. Just like my heart.
