Chapter 14: Game over
Tia's POV
Everywhere was darkness. I could feel my body being picked up and carried around. Was I dead? Was this what death felt like? I could hear muttering and groans as I was taken somewhere. Where would they take me? Were they going to burn me into quart god ash?
It had been a stupid, stupid idea to attack Voxeltopia. But in a way, it had to be done. I had proved that I could get past the guards with ease and attack the king. By myself. I knew they would increase the number of guards on duty, but we would bring with us back up, of course. Well, they. I'm dead now, so I guess it doesn't matter. I just had to make a stand. That was all I needed to do.
Having accepted the fact that I was dead, a peace came over me and for a moment, everything was tranquil. I didn't need to worry about anything, for in that moment, my body was warm and glowing and I felt...whole. Like I had succeeded something.
But the more I thought about it, the more the peace began to slip from my grasp. I had too much to do. I remembered the way I had blasted Ridgedog back when I escaped from him in the chessboard. I remembered the way I blew Elevn back when I fought for my freedom. Right now, right here, I was in another game, and I needed to be free. Because this was not just a game, this was reality, and in this game there were no second chances.
Game over.
That familiar power began to twist inside of me. And I focused more on the guards carrying me away. There must be about 15, 20 demigods around me. I had blow Ridgedog and Elevn back with ease, and I was certain I could do it now.
It took all of my willpower to do it. Think of Ridge. He needed me more than ever. Robin and Ryan. They needed me. Mitch needed Liam. My brother. He needed me. So many people needed me, and I needed them, and I needed to get back to them.
NOW
BOOM.
I exploded. Everything was white, just for a second. When it faded, most of the demigods were unconscious. There was a hole in the wall, looking out onto white candyfloss clouds and without further thought I hurtle out of there and let the winds take me.
The same feeling I felt before with Elevn came back. Tired, dazed, confused. The world began to spin, and I dropped further and further down into the woods. Summoning all of my strength, I struggle against the wind currents and after ten minutes I finally find the woods, and the worried group looking anxiously around.
Everything begins to blur together as I drop to the floor with a thump.
Deamon's POV
Out of nowhere, Tia suddenly appeared, flying towards us. I recognized that something was wrong straight away-she was dazed, covered in blood, and didn't seem to be focusing on anything. She seemed to be struggling to stay air born, and she suddenly dropped from the sky like a stone and hit the floor hard.
I ran towards her, picking her up and rushing back to camp with her. I pushed through the spectating crowd of Yogscast and Team Crafted people, and ran towards our makeshift camp, setting her down gently on the bed.
"Is anybody here a doctor?" I huff out impatiently, tearing off her shirt, and almost faint with relief to see a dark matter chestplate covering her stomach. So her baby was OK. "I am" Duncan says, stepping forward. "No you're not!" Lewis snaps. "I know the basics!" he huffs back, before beginning to take Tia's pulse, who is more unconscious than a rock. "She's had a lot of blood loss, but since she's a quart god, she should be able to heal up by herself." he explains. He unbuttons her trouser buttons and I glare at him furiously, pushing his hand away. "What the hell do you think you're doing?" I snap. He glowers at me, though he looks intimidated. "It's easier for her to breath this way" he sighs, like it's obvious. I mutter curses under my breath, and sit back down.
It was hours before she began to regain consciousness. It was a flutter of her eyelids first, before she began to remain conscious for ten seconds at a time, looking around in confusion before slipping back into darkness. I didn't move by her side. I promised Ridgedog I would protect her, no matter what.
"Deamon" Ridgedog smiles from across the table at me. "Yeah?" I grunt. "If...if anything ever happens to me...not death, obviously. But...I have a feeling this isn't the last time we see Mexxy. So if he ever...takes me away from her...I want you to protect her with your life. Can you promise me that?" he says softly, locking eyes with me. "Of course, Ridge, you know I would." I smile, and he nods, sighing in relief. "Good. As long as she's safe and protected, that's all that matters. Robin and Ryan too. You're a good friend to me Deamon, and I trust you" he says, before standing up to go upstairs. I sit at the table for a while, considering his words before I leave through the window.
I had failed to protect her, so now I had to do all that it took to make sure I carried out his wish.
"Looks so peaceful, doesn't she?" a voice murmurs from the corner of the room and I shiver. "What the hell are you doing here, Mexxy?" I snap, spinning round and knocking my chair over. "Oh, just came to pop over and visit" he smiles, before leaning off the wall and walks towards me. No...limps. I look at him, confused and he turns to glower at the sleeping figure. "She stabbed me, that's all. Such a trouble maker. I warned her what would happen if she carried on" he sighed.
"She didn't do anything! Neither did Ridge, or Robin, or Ryan! Or Mitch! Or Deadlox!" I yell. This doesn't seem to disturb Tia, who continues to sleep through the whole ordeal.
"You all seem to take me as a fool. Thinking that I don't know what is going on. I see all, I hear all. You were clever. Very, very clever. But I'm afraid in this game there are no cheaters."
Clicking his fingers, three shaking figures are brought in by guards. Anastatia, Sepia and Ellis. My eyes widen as guards suddenly grab me roughly. "No! You can't do this! We haven't done anything!" I gasp, wriggling and thrashing in the guard's iron grip. "You were dating the daughter of Ridgedog, who's sister was slipping him hints about what was happening outside of the cell, and Sepia and Ellis, the two new generals, were healing and feeding them. Correct me if I am wrong, Deamon." He pauses to judge my reaction. In my head, I realize he didn't mention anything about Tia's power. There was still hope left.
"So don't lie to my face..." he begins, stepping forward right into my face, "...and tell me you have done NOTHING!" he spits. I glare back defiantly into his evil green eyes. "Ridgedog will be delighted with his new company, I'm sure. Guards, take them away" Mexxy smirks.
"GET OFF ME! I'M YOUR GENERAL, I ORDER YOU!" I roar at the guards, who pause and hesitate, but continue. "Please!" I whisper, but it's too late. The guards fly me off towards Voxeltopia, ripping me away from Tia's side and leaving her alone with Mexxy. I had broken my promise.
We were led to the cells and the door opened. Ridgedog looked up and met my eyes with wide, confused eyes. I shake my head at him, face crumbling as Anastatia, Sepia, and Ellis were sent in too, and were locked up.
I was locked up next to Robin, and she buried her face into my chest. "D-Deamon..." she whispers. Her voice sounds hoarse, and I nuzzle her cheek. "It's OK, It's OK" I murmur, kissing her on the cheek. Ridgedog narrows his eyes at it, but says nothing, as there were more pressing matters at hand.
"What happened?" he asked. "Somehow, Mexxy found out. Tia's unconscious in our camp and Mexxy stayed there after I was taken away. I don't know what's happened to her..." I whisper, looking down. "Deamon? What's wrong?" Ryan asks. "I failed you, Ridge, I'm sorry, I promised I would protect her, and I failed you. You trusted me, and I failed you..." I whisper, a tear sliding down my face. "Deamon, you did more than enough. It's up to fate now to decide what happens." he whispers back.
"So, jail buddies..." Anastatia murmurs. We all look up at her and our eyes widen. Her hands are glowing. "Some of you have forgotten I'm not only a demigod but a mage" she grins. I turn to Ridgedog, who looks back with a scheming grin. This was far from over.
This was not game over.
Mexxy's POV
Sitting beside Tia's sleeping figure, I tilt my head. Such a good daughter she could of made. I sigh. What a loss. So strong, so defiant, so courageous...I would of been honoured for such a descendant to take the crown. But she chose the wrong path.
I touch my hand to her face, and she begins to glow.
She wakes suddenly. "W...Wha..." she mutters, blinking her eyes. When she focuses on me, she frowns. "What the heck are you doing here? Where's Deamon?" she slurs warily, still under the effects of whatever make-do drugs the scientist gave her, who's friends and himself were all unconcious outside, thanks to simple potions.
"Can't a father visit his daughter?" I ask innocently, regarding her carefully. She frowns. "Some father you are" she mumbles, and I chuckle. "Indeed. Some daughter you are, too, getting together with your mother's murderer and stabbing your own father." I sigh and she looks slightly guilty, much to my amusement. "You deserved it." she sighs at last and a small amused smile flickers onto my face. "I guess" I muse.
"Why are you here?" she asks, trying to sit up but she wasn't strong enough yet. "I want to have a chat with you" I smile. She looks at me suspiciously. "Yes, I wouldn't trust me either" I grin and she rolls her eyes. "Just get on with it" she grunts. "Impatient, just like me." I sigh. "What I want to say is...you are very strong, Tia. Defiant, courageous, doesn't give up, has a clear sense of wrong and right. I like your spirit, your personality, everything about you. You would be a fine queen, and you could of been. But you chose the wrong path." I say, waiting for her reaction.
"I prefer to think of it as the right path" she mutters, eyeing me warily. "Let's just cut to the chase. I want you to join me." I smile and her eyes open wide. "Join you? I was wrong, you're more insane than Ridge was." I chuckle lightly. "Ah, witty too! Oh, how it would be such a waste if you died. Join me, Tia, you can rule with me" I say eagerly, leaning forward. "Together, we could conquer so many places, rule with an iron fist. You can rule with me, Tia, as father and daughter. We could rule the world!" I whisper, eyes glittering.
I could see she was considering it. "Never thought about this before, but I guess I'm a princess aren't I?" she chuckles. I nod. "So Ridgedog is a prince then" she smirks and my smile fades. "So if I ruled with you..." she continues, "Ridgedog would be joint king. Sure" she grins and I scowl at her, "I'll rule with you."
"That's not how it works" I sigh and she sighs and rolls her eyes. "Never is, is it? Can I change that law once I'm queen?" she asks and I glare at her. "You're just being stupid now." I groan.
"I'll make you a deal" she says finally. "What kind of deal?" I ask curiously.
"Release Ridgedog, Robin, Ryan, Deamon, Mitch, Deadlox and the rest of them, and let them live their lives. Also, I can visit them as much as I want and maintain my relationship with Ridgedog. In return..." she pauses, waiting for my reaction, "I will rule with you" she says finally.
"Hmm" I hum, rubbing my chin thoughtfully. "Interesting deal..." I say. "In addition, you will leave our family, Team Crafted and the Yogscast alone" she adds, watching me from the bed. "I need time to ponder your request. In the mean time...do not say a word to anyone about this until I have decided. I have told you, I see all and hear all. Say a word about, and it's off, understood?" I threaten, and she nods. "Alright." I say finally, before lifting off into the air, phasing through the wall and taking off to Voxeltopia. I needed time to think.
