Chapter 11: Stupid hope

Lewis' POV

Trudging through the thick jungle undergrowth, I sighed. Simon was whining about the lack of jaffa cakes, and Duncan was just acting like a stroppy teenager. What was I even doing here? Sure, Ridge was a good friend to me now...he usually came to visit me every fortnight to talk about things, and he would make sure everything was working in the factory. But was I willing to risk my life for him? I guess I had no choice now, since I can't go back.

"What's wrong, Lewis?" Ryan asks. He was only a young kid, but he was taking all of this surprisingly well. Though I had heard him crying a bit last night, and it kept me awake enough for me to comfort him. I guess he saw me as bit of a father figure. Ridge and I didn't look the same in the face, but we wore the same kind of design of clothes, so maybe that was why he reached out to me. He seemed more relaxed when I was there, and Tia noticed that. Robin was fine, of course, now that her and Deamon had pretty much become a couple.

"Just thinking" I reply, withdrawing my hand from my trouser pockets to pat him on the head. He smiled at me, and looked away. "Thanks for coming with us Lewis" I hear Tia say quietly. She didn't look at me directly, she was too busy focusing on the path ahead. But when I nodded, she nodded back. "You're welcome. Ridge is my friend, and no one else would step up." I say, almost purposely looking at Simon and Duncan.

"We were going to anyway" Sjin smiles. Sips gives him a look, and Sjin nudges him.

Liam and his group were separate from us, just by a few metres. Ever since Tia and Liam found out they were brother and sister, it had caused something to shift in their friendship-they were more distant, and hardly daring to believe it at all. The Ryan from Team Crafted was trudging behind Tato and Ashley, both of which were talking quietly and blushing. Sky marched on ahead with Liam, determined to find Deadlox and Mitch.

Tia seemed to be calm, to be honest. At first, I thought it was because of the kids, but as time went on, I could tell she was becoming more withdrawn. She was probably thinking about what was happening to Ridge. Now that I think about it, what WAS happening to Ridge? Were they torturing him? Was he...going insane again?

"Tia?" I ask, separating myself from Simon, who had been moaning behind me and I hadn't been listening, and Duncan who had been strangely quiet. "Mm?" she hummed, glancing at me as I walk beside her. "Is Ridge going to go insane again and kill everyone?" I ask nervously. Simon stops his whining, and all ears instantly prick to attention.

She's quiet for a long time. "I really don't know" she says finally. The sun was beginning to sink behind the clouds again. We'd been walking for ages without a break, and my stomach growled. She cocks her head at me with a smile. "Guess we should stop to eat" she muses. Nods of agreement all round.

Liam and Sky were reluctant to eat, but as soon as we mentioned food, their stomach's both growled. "I'll go hunt some pigs or something. Start making a base" I command. I was kind of sick of Tia and Ridge being in charge all the time. "I'll go with you" Tia sighs. "It's fine Tia" I assure her. "We have to stick together or else Mexxy will take one of us again" she says clearly, making sure everyone heard her, before she went on ahead.

Simon got up and followed me, and so did Sky and Liam. Tia flew up into the air, scanning the tree tops, before she flew down and led us to a herd of cows. We got on with the work quietly until we all had food to bring back. Tia fashioned some leather boots, and put them on, strutting around like a peacock, especially when she found a skeleton and got some bones for bonemeal. She grinned at her new white boots, and whined when she got dirt on them, and decided it would be best if she floated from now on.

Liam stayed quiet throughout all this. Tia was obviously trying to lighten the mood and failing. When I slaughtered the last cow, the blood sprayed onto her boots, decorating it like a leopard print. She glanced down smugly, and continued to fly around, trying to crack jokes and lighten the mood. When it failed, she sighed and looked down. "Nevermind" she sighs, before turning round and instantly backing up.

There was a man in front of us, with a royal blue coat, similiar to Ridge's. He had almost glowing white hair, but despite this he looked young. Reptilian green eyes wander over us warily, reading us as if we were books. From the crown on top of his head and his smug expression, this had to be Mexxy.

Tia's POV

"Where's Deamon?" Mexxy muses, hovering majestically over the ground, raising an eyebrow at my bloody white boots. "Right here" Deamon's voice sounds from behind Mexxy and the rest of the group pulls up behind him. The man twirls round, seemingly delighted at Deamon's presence. His eyebrows frown instantly when he sees his arm wrapped around Robin's waist tightly.

"Well, well, well" Mexxy drawls out, deciding to land on the ground. He approaches his ex general and tilts his head curiously. "What do we have here? My own general, going out with one of Ridgedogs little devil spawns?"

That was IT.

I floated quickly over to him, grabbing him by his white hair and I spin him round, smashing him into a nearby tree. Two pale hands grasp me tightly on the arms and throw me into a hill. I wince at the impact, rubbing my back, trying to get rid of the stinging sensation.

"Aw did I push a button there?" he smiles smugly. I wanted to wipe that smug little grin off his face.

"SHUT the HELL up and tell us why you're here. What the hell have you done to Ridge? Where is he?" I snap. He holds up his hands defensively. "One at a time, my dear, one at a time" he grins. "What the hell have you done to Ridge?" I growl. "Oh, enough. He's more batty than a bat now" he laughs.

I swallow hard. So Ridge was insane again. I'd have to sort it out as quickly as possible before he got worse...

"He hasn't even done anything!" Robin suddenly pipes up, stepping out of Deamon's protective grasp.

Mexxy turns to the challenge, eyes glittering with amusement. "Ah, Ridgedog's daughter, the lovely Robin." His hands suddenly extend out, reaching towards her. "Touch my daughter, and I'll SKIN you" I hiss. The venom in my voice scares even me and I swear I saw Mexxy bristle just the slightest.

"Ah, Tia, you've inherited so much of your father's anger, it's almost adorable" he chuckles, spinning round to walk towards me. I back away, glaring at him. "Hey, why are you backing away? Come, give me a hug" he grins.

A hug?

Yep, he'd gone insane too.

"A hug" I repeat, staring at him in bewilderment. He cocks his head. "Don't you want to give your own father a hug?" he grins.

"What the-WHAT!" Deamon yells, eyes widening. I can't move. I'm paralyzed to the spot. I'm Mexxy's daughter? No...that...that can't be right...

"What?" is all I can say. "You heard me, daughter. You are my daughter, and Ridge killed your mother. Can you begin to see why I hate him, hm?" he smiles innocently. And to my surprise, I could. I could see why. Ridge killed the only woman Mexxy ever loved. As revenge, he must have kicked him off the throne.

But that didn't change the fact that I loved Ridge more than anyone. A hell of a lot more than my own god damned father. Who was an evil psychopath. "This doesn't change anything" I say finally. Mexxy frowns uncertainly at me. "What?" he says again. "I love Ridge. I don't care if you are my father because you've never been there for me at all, and you hate my guts anyway. I don't see why this would change anything" I say coldly.

He stares at me in bewilderment for a moment, struggling to find the words to say. "I...I see" he mutters, looking down, dropping his arms. A pang of sadness runs through my veins but I let it pass. "You love the man who killed your own mother. I see." he muses. I knew he was trying to sway me. To make me give up on finding Ridge.

"It doesn't matter who killed who. It was in the past, and I barely even remember having any family anyway. The only one I believe is my family is Liam." I pause for a moment. "Does that mean you're my dad too?" Liam's voice comes from behind me. "Yes, my son." he smiles, holding out his arms for another hug. Liam shakes his head and wrinkles his nose as if he smelt bad. "You blew me up. You don't care about us at all." he says harshly.

Mexxy stiffens, grinding his teeth together angrily. "Fine. If that's how you want to play it..."

His hand reaches out grabbing Ryan roughly by his arm, and Robin by the other. My eyes widen as I realize what he's going to do. But it's too late. All three of them disappear.

"Robin! Ryan!" I cry out, lunging towards the empty space. But there's nothing there now. Oh no. Oh no no no no no no...

I crouch into a ball, tears sliding down my face. I couldn't do anything. He was taking my family one by one. Surely he wouldn't harm his own grand kids?

But then I remember what he did to Liam, and I wasn't so sure anymore.

Mitch's POV

I don't know how long it's been, but one day, the iron doors to the cell open. I glance tiredly up at it, stupid hope flickering in my heart. Maybe Tia was finally here, and I could go back to Liam, and finally get married. But it's hopeless, as Mexxy walks in, dragging two more prisoners with him.

Ridge cries out loudly, thrashing around in his chains. I squint in the darkness. Then my own eyes widen. Robin and Ryan! They are both shaking, scared and confused. But when they see Ridge they both cry out "Dad!" Mexxy doesn't say a word, just roughly shoves them towards Ridge, bounds both of their hands to red matter cuffs and walks out, slamming and locking the door behind him.

Ridge begins to actually cry, leaning his head on both of their heads as they cry too, reaching out desperately for their dad. "Where's Tia? Where's Tia?" Ridge keeps repeating, fear in his blue eyes. "He didn't take her. He told her and Liam how he was their dad and you killed her mum and..." Robin stops to sob loudly for air, rubbing her head on his chest.

"What did she say?" he whispers, real fear in his eyes now as he waits with bated breath for her answer. "She says it didn't change anything because it was the past and she loves you anyway" Ryan whispers. Ridge shuts his eyes and tears of relief flow down his cheeks. It was hard seeing the demigod this emotional. "What about Liam?" I ask warily. They turn to me. "Liam said the same" Robin whispers, sniffing. I smile with relief. Liam was looking for me with Tia. His sister.

Deadlox was asleep, but he awoke after about an hour. When he saw Robin and Ryan, both leaning on their dad as if their lives depended on it, his face crumpled. "He's going to take us one by one, isn't he?" he whispers. I nod tiredly. "Let's just hope they can find the next clue before that happens." I mutter. But then I remember how Mexxy was going to try and kill off Tia and Liam in the temple, and tears once again begin to slide down my face. I look over at Ridge, who was already watching me. Both of us nod our heads at each other.

We just had to accept that Liam and Tia were going to die.
