✧HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMMY✧
♕♕♕

The party had been an absolute hit, and with all the children acquainted it made it easy for playdates. Aurora didn't have a care who or how many children were over, she knew her children were responsible and respectful of the rules she's set in place.
That and they enjoyed their pool privileges right beside the treehouse.
Currently Rabastan was in the midst of entertaining Lori until her playdate was set to come, and already his mates filled it in his head that Noah was surely going to win her heart in Hogwarts.
Avery laughed at the situation until Rabastan teased the same for Ronan and Maya to be together.
Until Aurora settled the claim that neither had any chance with a witch until they were mature and filled with cockiness, Ronan was neither and would be neither. While Lorelei or Maya would fall for such a thing.
Neither spoke about it after that.
And Rookwood had demanded that his son was indeed a mature lad. That was true, perhaps he was a Ravenclaw within the two sons. But Clemintine claimed that her husband was more than a player in Hogwarts and she wouldn't be surprised.
While Rabastan was looking over a legal statement and contract for a warehouse, he peeked over to see what Lori was drawing.
"What are you up to Lolli?"
"Mummy's birthday is coming and I'm trying to draw her brewing. It's really hard." She pouted, and Rabastan had sat back in his chair in utter shock. His daughter left the comfort of his lap before he moved aside his current work to look at the date.
Lori was right. It was July 5th already.
He called a house meeting right then and there, or what he titled as a house meeting as it only counted of the children and himself who were all rightly confused as to what had happened and why they were called.
"What do you all usually plan for your mother's birthday?" He asked, and Imara frowned.
"We're not usually allowed to do anything for her birthday, she doesn't want gifts. Auntie Liz and Auntie Pheebs throw a party because she can't say anything to them." Imara spoke, and he was stunned by the response.
"And last year?"
"Mum wanted to go to Arizona again, and she went to Hawaii—Oh and camping!" For one reason or another he assumed that she had done this with the children, and it was a good thing, or his happy mood would've been witnessed by the children.
And they were willing to be devious to help him plan a party, if anything it would just be a gathering of friends. And this time Narcissa rightly couldn't deny it, but then when he thought about it...There were rightly more than a few people to invite, that's how he thought about extending the invitation to those in America, but then the idea of guilty them when they might not have a passport?
Besides, she would be visiting soon anyway to branch the company here as well. Truthfully it was a smart business move, and Otto could agree with it as well. It meant a trustworthy base as well as two factories working, and usually America ordered a surplus anyhow.
There was the given people from the previous party, in addition to the Malfoy's he supposed, Otto and his wife, Aurora's assistances. He couldn't remember the bloke's name from her days at school...Zane?
But it turned out he was still working with her on this end of Britian, so he invited the whole family.
However, he asked Evelyn, Clem and Isabella to aid him in actually throwing the party. There was only so much he could do on his end and on house arrest, though Rory was far too busy zooming around that she hadn't noticed the elves preparing a feast or the ballroom being cleared out.
Though Rabastan was positively in dept to the witches for getting the children clothes, Rory a dress and himself a new dress robe.
Which he had a few comments about for being what 'in' at the moment, but after trying it on he rather liked the fit and comfort. Perhaps it was for the better.
"Has she figured it out yet?"
"Her assistant and Advisor haven't slipped yet, and Salzar bless for that...They've cleared her schedule for the day in thinking she's booked, and the party will take over the rest of her day. I do appreciate the help with this, I'm about done just sitting on my hands." Evelyn turned to look up towards him and perked her lips.
"I rather have you sitting on your hands here than rotting away in a cell. It hurt not having her here, and our children shouldn't have met for the first time this year." He hadn't been the only one to miss Aurora, but he took the scolding once again before she gave him the list of what the elves needed to prep.
It would be tomorrow and the children were going to attempt, at the supervision of Rabastan, on her favorite breakfest. And if it was any comment on his end, Romulus and Cara did fantastic—Though that was from their potions background.
The children were able to order three things each that they thought their mother would like, and Izzy had picked a dozen of magazines—filled with jewelry, clothes, supplies, stationery, the works.
And having wrapped it all allowed them to relax for the time being, until it was go time.
Rabastan had snuck out of the room, which was all perfect considering her assistance made sure she would be too tired to notice and to enjoy and not fight for such a celebration.
Apparently all the Americans knew her well enough that they fought for this as well, and were beyond excited to help.
The elves provided them a tray, which was being carried by Rabastan before he passed it over towards Romulus and Imara. While Cara and Ronan held all the presents. Yet that left Lori with a special task.
To wake Aurora up.
"Mummy mummy!" She cheered, and Rabastan had flinched at the idea of being awaken with a tackle. "Oh good goddess Lori! What—"
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!" Aurora had acted like a deer caught in headlights, or rather a cat caught in headlights as she looked everyone in the room with a frozen sense of shock.
"It...It's not the—" Her mouth gaped as she realized that it was indeed the twelfth, but what caught her eyes was the candles on the French toast.
"Oh come here lovelies." She cooed, and the twins placed the breakfast tray onto the counter before tackling her with hugs and kisses.
"Papa didn't give mummy a kiss!" Lori pouted, and he felt rather excluded sure, but he'd get his time later. Hours in fact, as he wasn't going to settle for only a few dances with her.
He had a whole six years to make up for.
"Well that won't do, will it Lori...Happy birthday love." He whispered, and she leaned up to aid him in giving her a small kiss on the lips.
They never did more than that in front of the children, but then again...They weren't doing much more than simple and chaste kisses.
"Now then...Let's give your mother a chance to eat her breakfast, I want you all freshened up before noon!" Rabastan ordered, and it allowed the children to go and eat before getting ready for the day.
Which confused her greatly.
"Up to no good are you?"
"I'm up to a plenty of good, now eat your beautifully prepared feast and we can enjoy the rest of the day."
"Raba I have a full day of work that I cannot afford to move over." He smirked and shook his head.
"Well since I've contacted both Annalise and Sarah, it was quite easy to move a few things around. And before you fire them, I gave them my word that I would take the blame." She began to mutter a whole line of curses into her mug, which only caused him to settle at the side of the bed, still looking at her as curious as ever.
"Why don't you like your birthday?"
"I've never liked my birthday...I always counted down the days when I lived with my parents to be able to go to an event and to be out of the house...But now it's just a count of how old I'm getting." Rabastan had scoffed. "Old? Aurora you aren't old."
"Our eldest are almost eleven Raba. We're thirty-One." He groaned, he had completely forgotten that they were getting older.
"But I've been thirty-one for much longer than you have, and I can tell you it isn't that bad, besides, I hear that is the prime for Black beauties."
"Oh sod off, we'll see if you still believe that when I'm in my sixties."
"I will adore seeing you as an elder, perhaps an elder professor...Now let me leave you to eat in peace, I have a few things to get prepared. I suggest you freshen up, and ask the elf what to wear." Her mouth parted for the second time and she began to squint her eyes towards him.
"You sneaky bastard, I don't want a party!"
"Well tough luck love, I haven't been able to praise my wife and I surely won't be able to when your potion comes out. So let us enjoy a real celebration for you. I've invited loads of people and I don't think I have enough in me left to write cancelation parcels." She crossed her arms over her chest and continued to pout, which Rabastan only responded with a kiss on her forehead.
"I have missed a great deal, and I want to make things right between us kitten. The children and I worked very hard along with your friends."
"Everyone knew?!"
"For a Ravenclaw I don't think I should have to explain the definition: Surprise party to you love. Now there's a tight schedule, best eat up." He had left without another word, instead he laughed at whatever curses and taunts she had come up with until the door closed.
And Romulus stood right outside waiting.
"I take it she didn't like the idea?"
"That's a very kind way of putting it," Romulus smirked and began to walk down to get a quick breakfast from the dining table that the elves provided.
"When I got our wands I saw a Potioneers belt, I thought It was brilliant because she always misplaces her bloody wand. And I know it was late from her birthday but she said she never wanted us to give her gifts." Rabastan sighed, clapping a hand onto his son's shoulder.
"Your mother has always been against gifts, I surprised her with the Gazebo when she had been awarded credited for a summer class. Mind you it was her first potion class after Hogwarts, and she hadn't wanted a single gift or party. She's a minimalists, though she could never have enough books." Romulus laughed in agreement as the two joined the rest of their family, while Aurora had taken her time to eat before getting through the shower.
Instead of the elves however, Cara and Imara held up her dress that Narcissa had made for the occasion. But also approved by Clementine and Evelyn.
Rory was simply in a robe after she was managed to style her daughter's hair and fix them into these beautiful dresses that went along with her own rather well, it felt like a wedding with all the detail going into attire. Though she was struggling to come to terms with being the center of attention today...
When Rabastan had seen his daughters all sporting a similar gown and hairstyle he sighed. "I am in for so much trouble when you three go to Hogwarts."
"Why papa?" Lori whined, running to her father as though she had been caught for doing something naughty.
"Because your mother is a beautiful witch and she's passed that and more to each of you." Imara blushed but smiled never the less, and Cara giggled at the idea of being at all similar to her mother—Which resulted in a hair switch. One that Imara decided to join in with.
"Oi! Auntie Evie wants to take photos, she said no crazy colors." Romulus pointed out, and Cara stuck out her tongue while changing it back.
"Where'd mum go?" He questioned, and Rabastan shrugged.
"Suppose she'll be pouting until people come, I'll tell you she's managed to have a smile on her face when she was pregnant with all of you. She's the strongest person I know your mother." Romulus smiled brightly, that was a kind compliment.
And the eldest son knew of the trials that pregnancy brought on his mum, he remember well enough about Lori being born and all that follows.
"Yes but goddess forbid you say that to her face hm?" Aurora cooed as she entered the bedroom, seeing the crowd of people in Cara's bedroom.
Rabastan beamed at the sight of his wife dressed up for today, and by the same goddess she's called out upon—She looked gorgeous.
"Mum! Our dresses match."
"Yes, I suppose someone had something to do with that." Though they weren't all the same color, they were indeed very similar. And she eyed Rabastan in suspicion.
"Mother please! It's your party!" Romulus cheered, and Rabastan saw the visible distaste of hearing the word 'mother' from her children.
She perfect anything else.
"Rommy she doesn't like it when you call her mother, do you mummy?"
"Yes son, please remind your dear mother that she's getting older." Romulus gawked, was that why his mum didn't like her birthday?
"You're not that old." Aurora opened her mouth and plopped it closed.
"That old, and how old would that old be?" She questioned her little boy, and he frowned thinking about it.
"A hundred?"
"Alright, fine. But I'll still be bitter until then." She joked, running a hand through his hair which only caused him to groan.
"Mum! I already fixed my hair!"
"My boy, terribly sorry...I'm surprised none of you have changed your hair." She looked about, and that caused Rabastan to chuckle.
"Evelyn had already spoke about taking 'normal pictures' and that no crazy colors would be allowed today." The guilt suddenly shown on all the children's faces as Rabastan had taken to explaining the rule.
"Oh so we listen to Auntie Evie but not if I asked?" Rabastan watched as his wife's hand went over to cross her chest.
"Unbelievable!" She cheered, and Lori had rushed over to give her mother an apology, followed by Cara.
But with their show of emotion, they lacked their ability to keep their hair from changing.
"Oh lovelies I was joking, how about you two help me pick some shoes for tonight...I'm sure there will be a lot of dancing tonight." That sparked everyone's interest, and just as Rabastan was about to ask if the children knew how to dance. He caught Romulus and Imara practicing and twirling one another.
Now it truly felt like he was looking at Aurora and Sirius.
"Imara darling, would you save your father a dance later?"
"Will you twirl me?"
"Of course." Imara liked how polite her father spoke, and she adored the flirting comments he made to mum.
When Aidan did it, it sounded strange. But their mum was happy, while here it brought out the pained smile that none of them were used to.
"I didn't know you lot could dance, perhaps you can teach me how Americans dance." Ronan shook his head and mumbled a few warnings for his father, but the twins quickly found a jig to follow through.
It was rushed, they both swirled and twirled while spinning around with their arms hooked as they skipped in a circle. This surprised him as Imara was a laughing mess while Romulus held the widest grin, perhaps this was a better idea than he first though.
Evelyn had come back at exactly noon to make final alterations to the ballroom and the outdoor patio. She had planned this party to be long and well into the night, and the Gazebo had been well decorated for the children to enjoy themselves.
A dollhouse, a table of sweets, board games...The works.
"Ah so you're the culprit." Aurora accused, her hands on her hips as she watched Evelyn laugh to the sky. "Tell me that after tonight darling, Rabastan's very excited to get to dance with you again."
"He hasn't told me that."
"Hm, and I thought he was kidding when he said you weren't going to like your birthday."
"Are you telling that there's no other women who doesn't like the reminder of getting old?"
"Oh Merlin, Rory you aren't old in the slightest! What is this about, truly...You can tell me."
The mistress of the manor had looked away from her friend and tried to deny that it was anything else besides that, but failed miserably as Evie had placed her hand gently on to Rory's wrist to bring up her hand.
"Tell me. Letting it fester won't do anything either."
"Besides the fact that the last birthday party we had here it seemed everyone was young...I feel like I'm turning into that naive woman again Evie."
"You weren't at all naive Rory, you had the children to take care and love, what our husbands have done they've already been punished for...The only differences is that McNair and Avery didn't drag me or Amelia into the mess. But then again none of us had our entire family arrested, it made for an easy placement. Your blood and the family you married into..." Rory closed her eyes and nodded before squeezing her friend's hand.
The ministry was doing their job.
"And if I hadn't pushed for a career, I would've been with my husband—Something my mother pushed to be at home. Gods it would've been a mess." Evelyn saw the distress, and perhaps a party wasn't the best idea. But it was sure to happen now when the kids were all pumped up for such an event...And Rory remembered well enough wanting to so badly do something with others that she sucked in a breath and smiled.
"I'm going to fix this mess I've created, but please tell me Aidan isn't—" Evelyn parted her mouth as she had completely forgot.
"Rory I swear I don't know, Mr.Hanson said he'd figure it all out with your company and...Shite." Aurora had turned numb at the idea that her—Her lover was going to be here in her manor.
Hurrying back to her bedroom and sitting at her vanity did she quickly fix with her watery eyes had caused a bit of damage to her eye products.
"Ah, there you...I assume the guests will start arriving within the—Love?" She smiled as it was clear she'd been caught trying to fix herself up from almost losing her cool.
Rabastan had kneed down to gain her attention, and she leaned on her elbow as she shook her head. "I love the gesture Raba, I do...But—"
"But nothing, you enjoyed all the other parties, what is it? What's different?" She opened her mouth as she wanted to confess that Aidan might've been invited on the premise of everyone from her company coming, but she shook her head and remained silent.
"It's strange is all...How many parties we could've had, the other children adore it here. And I always wanted them to have fun and be comfortable in the home we provided them...It's just too much at the moment."
"So it's not about your age?" She scowled down to the man, who was all too eager to lean upwards to kiss her softly on the lips.
They were gentle, warm and inviting.
"I'm here to stay love, happy birthday." He couldn't identify what sort of smile she was giving him, a tired one—But this was surely filled with half guilt and the other half with uncertainty.
"I sure hope so." With that she continued to fix up her appearance, and before they all knew it...The house was bustling, Rabastan hadn't even realized just how many people Aurora had under her belt.
And these were just the higher-ups and those being sent here to Britain to work because she moved.
He was used to the odd stares, and McNair aided him in hiding his tattoos that were visible. That he could live with, most were America...Though he was happy to see Aurora talking to Zane again, it allowed him to pretend that all was well.
Rabastan also adored the fact that so many children were here, Zane's children allowed Romulus and Imara to play with someone older and hear all about Hogwarts.
Aurora looked to be enjoying herself, and she did look breathtaking, but when he caught her rather intense conversation with an American lad...He faltered.
"Rory I thought you invited me...I'm sorry."
"I know, I get it. But I told Otto to send you back to the states to finish—"
"You can't do that, not when I'm capable of helping." She was working herself up to a migraine, and as she held her forehead, Aidan had made a motion to hold her other hand.
Which caused Rabastan to see nothing but red.
"McNair. Could you please get that bloke the fuck away from my wife before I lose my—"
"On it." The wizard hurriedly proclaimed, making his way to Aurora with a kind smile and a warning glance to the American lad.
"Sent one of his cronies to come check on me, isn't that nice Rory?"
"Look, I don't fault either of you on the account of feelings or whatever bloody shite you were just discussing. But he's about a minute from making a scene." Aurora had removed her hand from Aidan's grasp as she huffed in pure exhaustion.
"Rory you're working to the bone, if I was just here I could help you. I promise we'll just contact through letters, and our c—" Fear rallied on her face as she had to calm her breathing.
"I—I'll be right back." She stated, hurrying out of the ballroom with a quickened step as she found herself hurrying down the hall.
"Mum? Is everything alright?" She shook her head and found herself in the sanctuary of her den, and how odd was it to see Romulus, as an almost teenager...Right here sitting on the table before her as she tried to get a hold of her breathing.
Rabastan had stormed the hallways, and he knew exactly where his wife would end up if she hadn't apperented elsewhere, but the sound of Romulus' voice had stopped him in his tracks.
"What is it mum?"
"Aidan's here love, it's fine."
"I thought he was in America?" She nodded, but he realized that his mum wasn't prepared in seeing the wizard.
"I'll tell him to leave."
"No Romulus that isn't—"
"Mum, I'm not thick alright? I know what you're trying to do, uncle warned me that this is going to be too much for you."
"Yeah, well your uncle's an arse." Romulus cracked a grin as his mum found a distraction in running her hands through his hair.
And he ultimately turned it into his favorite shade, grey.
"Let me tell him to leave."
"No, that's an adult's job."
"But I'm the eldest!" Rabastan smiled, his son was indeed the eldest, but perhaps Aurora was right in this being an adult task to publicly dismiss someone from a party.
But then again...How would that look if she did that, her employees were all here—Gods he was such an idiot to invite them.
"I see you've been talking to your father."
"I promised you I'd try, didn't I?" She smiled, it was still encased with a whole lot of sadness, and it caused him to tackle his mum.
"It's your birthday, you shouldn't be crying on your birthday. It's bad luck."
"Is it now? Says who?" Romulus couldn't answer that and instead shrugged.
"I don't know, but it doesn't sound like good luck. And papa wanted to dance with you."
"I don't know hun, I'm not really up for dancing..." Rabastan had been angry as he arrived at the door, but had Aurora been that distraught over seeing her ex?
She sure was.
"But papa was excited to dance with you!"
"Then I suppose I'll have to find him before the night is over...Let me just take a breath for a moment son, why don't you check on your siblings?" He nodded, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek before running out the door, which followed in a slow walk.
"Mum's alright." He whispered to his father, and the elder wizard smiled. "Thank you Romulus."
The son hurried off once again so his mum wouldn't be stressed over the other children in the manor, and although Rabastan thought she would be sitting in her usual spot. There she was in front of the window, gazing out to the dwindling sun.
"Aurora...I hadn't thought about him coming—"
"It's fine. I just need another minute." Her voice was far more hoarse than when she was talking to their son, and it was clear that Aurora never allowed herself to truly be emotional in front of the children.
It seems like she had and Romulus had never rightly recovered, he was his mother's little protector. This just proved it.
He found his placement just behind her, his arms snaking around her waist to hold her tight against his form. And thanks to her potions he was starting to fill out like he used to, though his figure wasn't built like a Quidditch beater anymore...He still has a long while to get back there.
"Do you remember this is how we used to dance...Because your tum was—"
"The size of a whale?"
"I was going to say swelling with my child...I'd just sway you back and forth, and promise to leave the party early so I could get you tucked into bed and rub your feet."
"Yeah, but now it's our party and I'm not with child."
"But I'd still offer to rub your feet before bed if you'd want me to...I won't say he's not a handsome bloke, though I'm sure seeing him in person—"
"Seeing him in the manor feels wrong, I wanted to keep America separate." It was true, this was something she needed to do. For the safe of Regulus, his wife and children.
America needs to be separated.
"Did he say something that upset you?"
Yes.
"No, but I don't want a brawl to happen. And we had so many projects planned that I still have to work through it all that I'm not with him anymore." Rabastan allowed his head to fall down to the crook of her neck, all while squeezing her tighter.
"I'm sure it will get easier, just not now it won't be."
"Not when he's touched you in my line of sight, no...But it will be." Rory leaned her head away to settle a kiss on his cheek. "You being an overprotective teddy bear is going to make things much more difficult Rabastan."
"I am not a damn teddy bear, and if I have to make a stand to protect my family then...Then I'm going to bloody do it this time, I will not lose you again Rory. I can't."
He didn't want to guilt-trip her, he didn't want her to see this home like her own prison—It hurt just remembering her shouting the words to him all those years ago.
That this manor was her prison.
Sure they had their ups and downs, but he still had hope. Perhaps in the wrong places, but he still hung to the idea that everything could eventually go back to normal.
He soon led his wife back to the main room with a wide grin as he nicked his head for McNair to ask his own wife for a dance. Which started the trend of couples to join, but really sunk in, was that all of the Lestrange children had circled around their dancing parents, coming in and receding their step.
The Americans all smiled at the gesture while the Brits thought it was downright adorable. Aurora had given birth to the most children in decades, perhaps her own mother having three children had aided that fertility. But she rightly wasn't going to give that damn woman any credit, not when she was trying to forgive one of the many people who've wronged her.
"You look gorgeous...Have I told you that enough today?"
"Yes, I'm sure you've snuck it into every greeting we said to our guests."
"It's the truth, and these children of ours are so lively that I forget that you used to be the same." She giggled, and he continued to spin and twirl her before settling to dance with his daughter.
Who he thought was a beautiful dancer, surely having her mother's grace right alongside Cara. It was just Lorelei who was having trouble with the steps, though it was to be excepted.
Soon the night had turned into a beautiful dream, the attention to detail and the elves decorations surely brought out the celebration in the attendants. It had been an excuse to celebrate, though Rabastan made sure to avoid both Narcissa and Aidan.
He didn't want his anger to rip through him, if he could get Rory to keep looking at him like she did while they danced then all would be well.
And all felt well as he waited in the threshold of the bathroom seeing her at the vanity table. "Thank you...For today."
"I did what I could from here, but Evelyn and the birds did a great deal as well." She perked her lips before it crept into a smile, as she nodded again.
"But I was thanking you, I didn't need a birthday party and you still gave me one."
"After being pregnant with the children we never had a chance to celebrate your birthday properly. And I know the munchkins enjoyed themselves." She grinned to herself in the mirror, and he thrived seeing her look so alive.
It was like a switch, he had noticed it halfway through the night. Perhaps it had to do with the fact that Mr.Proctor had left, the Lestrange's were able to enjoy the night without the fear from Aurora's hurting him.
Aurora had removed her robe and her hair was lightly dried when she joined Rabastan in bed. He had withheld drooling as he ate up the sight before him.
Bless American nightwear.
It was a silk tank top and a pair of shorts in a lovely blue with black lace. Having had a peek in her closet, he surely saw the matching robe that went with this as well...But he wouldn't complain an inch if it meant to see her in her new fashion.
There was definitely a mature and motherly nature that graced his wife, a difference between home attire and to what she would wear to business meetings. It had shifted more to the American outlet, and he only confirmed this after seeing the those from across the pond.
The sudden contact of her warmth hugging his arm caused him to break his thoughts, but he had earned brownie points in as she released a sigh and hummed along.
"I think I missed the parties here... And to think I loathed them when I was a child. But I guess it must be that grey area of being an adult."
"Anything involving your mother you loathed, and I don't blame you." Rabastan hadn't done much in need of physical endurance, but after all that transpired today and spending the week planning this—In addition to the stress of her actually liking it, he was close to falling asleep.
However Rory, who had tried to focus on the ache of overworking herself to find sleep had failed. Especially when she felt something burning beside her, she was about to retract her arm had it not been addicting.
Tears started to form in her eyes as she gazed up to her semi sleeping husband, but at the tug of the bond, he popped his eyes open only to see his wife starting to cry.
"Love?" His voice was husk, filled with sleep that only caused her to hitch her breath at the sound. Rabastan's free hand came over and caressed her cheek to wipe away the onset of tears.
"Is it another nightmare? Let me get you a cup of tea." He had started to get up, leaving her without the contact that left her unwilling cold.
She scrambled to cover herself over him to stop his action. "I'm fine." It was a gentle sniffle, and if she wanted his embrace rather than a warm beverage, he was going to take the opportunity.
Going so far as to run his hair into her locks, silently hoping that it shimmered to a different shade, but Rory had it strictly under control.
Turning her attention back to him again, she had left all but a passing few seconds before she leaned up to settle a soft kiss to his lips.
And it rejuvenated her husband to wake up further, especially when the kiss began to build...
