-Chapter☾ThirtyOne-

✧NOT A PUREBLOOD PARTY✧

It had finally hit the weekend, and Aurora was running around the place in order to get ready for the herd of children that would be coming over. Romulus was not impressed at the idea of children younger than him coming over, he rather liked his cousins. They were older than him by a few months and that was ideal, but his mother gave him a gift to give to...Owen?
He was perhaps the youngest of the damn bunch, even younger than Lori.

But Lori would have her hands filled with Rosabella McNair, Emmeline Yaxley, Noah Avery and Caspian Rookwood. From hearsay, he soon learned that all these people were friends with his parents at one point in time, but it grew suspicious as he hadn't heard any of these names in his life.

Or recently he should say, what he's heard when he was a younger lad doesn't count if he couldn't remember.

With the help of the elves, Rory had made a feast. And Rabastan was pleasantly surprised by the layout, Rory had lost her last few ounces of posh with the spreads she had whipped up.

And by gods did they smell beautiful.

Everyone was invited to come at noon, and little surprise that McNair and his family had been the first. Evelyn wanted to be prompt, but also wanted to meet all the children—She had been far too excited to do so.

Both Elijah and Rosabella weren't given a full explanation as that would be always a difficult conversation to when it would properly come. But never the less, the two were invited to a beautiful manor.

"Mum...It's beautiful." Rosabella gasped, and it only caused McNair to pick up his daughter in a fit of teasing. "Is our home not beautiful?"

"Look papa, the big staircase." The elf had greeted them, and was pleasantly surprised that Rabastan had already been on the way to welcome them.

"My wife hasn't slowed down a single moment since she woke up this morning...And who might we have here?" McNair had risen an extra inch, he could only dream of ever introducing the children to his best mate.

And here was his chance.

"My eldest, Elijah...And my darling little Rosabella. Say hello to your Godfather." Rabastan had faulted, and a smile erupted on his face, Evelyn hadn't realized what that would've done to the man, but it was clear it was the same reaction that Rory had.

Either of the children had been born after they had left, and this was truly the first time they would be having a gathering. "Hello. I'm Elijah McNair."

"Well hello there young sir, Rabastan Lestrange...Your sister happens to be a bit shy, but I believe my children will bring her to play in a moment. Come join us." Elijah hadn't rightly ever been called sir before, and he felt as giddy as his father.

"Mum is Auntie Rory here?" Evelyn smiled and explained that this was her aunt and uncle's home. And by gods that turned the young girl to spark excitement. But Rabastan supposed his wife always had that effect on children.

"Romulus, Ronan...Where might your mother be?" Romulus took a look back and frowned at where he assumed his mother had been.

"I think she was going to get dressed. I'm not sure." Rabastan smiled to either of his son, and he was about to introduce them—But both the McNairs had stared wide-eyed at Romulus.

He was indeed the spitting image of Aurora's brothers. And it gave Evelyn a sense of childish recalling of Regulus being her first boyfriend...

"Hey there, I'm Romulus Lestrange...Welcome to our home." The eldest son had almost stumbled as he wasn't sure that this was his home just yet, but proceeded never the less.

McNair gave a look to his mate before going to shake the next generation of Lestrange's hand.

"And welcome back to the bloody country son. McNair, your father's best mate."

"As if!" A shout erupted and in came Avery, with his wife and children just a few steps behind.

"These are the lads our father went to school with?" Ronan laughed and nodded, it was so odd to see their father act childish—especially with grown men.

"Don't suppose you remember any of their children's names?" Romulus questioned his brother yet again, and Ronan looked rightly worried as well.

"Mum's going to kill us." But Romulus shook his head, he was surely going to make the best of it.

"Fancy a quidditch match later?" Elijah had been esthetic after a mere question and he nodded.

"Rosa is still getting used to the broom, but I can play! Have an extra beaters bat?"

"Seems like we're pairing up then mate." Ronan took Elijah's side and Romulus smirked.

They surely made the young lad feel welcomed, but the issue was that now there were three more to help with.

"It's good to see you both not in nappies and talking. Romulus you actually slept over with your sister for a night at our house."

"Really?" Romulus rose his brow, and Evelyn giggled. "Hm, we were preparing for Elijah to come, and you and your sister were beautifully behaved. We were surely spoiled."

"Hey!" Elijah cheered, and Rosa still remained by her mother's side and hidden in her leg. Romulus surely recognized that from Lori more times than not, so he looked back to the treehouse to see his sisters coming over.

"Lori! Do you have it?" Ronan called out, and that had the girl look over to see the girl her age before she went darting off towards the small table only to retrieve a package.

And Lori bounced over to hand it off to Rosabella. Who took it in worry before ripping the wrapping paper, all before she gasped at the beautiful doll.

"Will you play dollies with me? I have a doll house upstairs but mum said we can bring it outside!" Rosa had instantly left her mother's side and followed Lori to what Evelyn could only hope was her bedroom.

"Lori?" She questioned, and it was meant to be more of a thought than an actual response, but Romulus nodded.
"It's short for Lorelei, but we call her Lori and sometimes Lolli." She stifled a chuckle as she turned to see the men still acting like boys and Mrs.Avery keenly out of place.

"Oh gods, Rabastan! You were supposed to tell me when they arrived!" The wizards laughed at how the man flinched at his wife's high pitched voice, and it caused the children to laugh.

"Thank you for coming," Aurora said as she went from Amelia to Evelyn. And already doing a headcount, there were two missing.

"Lori took Rosa up to her room to play dollies."

"Ah, yes...Daisy, could you bring the dollhouse outside for the girls. It's too beautiful outside to play indoors." Ronan followed towards the same table where Evelyn suspected the doll came from, and the boy returned to give her son a gift as well.

"American sure, but it's wicked fast." Ronan boasted, this had caught the attention of both Wyatt and Maya. As well as finally push the two Lestrange daughters into the group as well.

*

"I think we've done quite well with them," Avery smirked, watching the madness unfold, and it was even better when the three other families had arrived as well.

Clem's sons were rightly shy and one of the youngest ones was right beside Isabella's youngest. But Ronan had been instructed to Aaron Yaxley and Wyatt Avery who were his age and he thrived.
While Cara and Maya Avery hit it off rather well.

Imara was slightly apprehensive with all the commotion, and Romulus had remained with her.

"You alright?" He questioned, and she shook her head, fiddling with her necklace as she tried to tune away from the noise.

There were currently twenty-seven people at this party including their own family and it was rather stressful. The twins watched their mother fawn over the younger children and all that, but it was difficult to connect to them when the eldest was just Ronan's age.

And then there began the small complaints of how Narcissa Malfoy and Draco had sent an owl saying they wouldn't be coming.

Aurora had wanted to see her cousin, but perhaps it was a little wrong to subject Narcissa to all those who she too abandoned.

Eliza Dolohov had stuck rightly beside her friend Evelyn, but either were glad that their daughters were enjoying the company of the youngest Lestrange.

Who surely had her father wrapped around her finger.

"I can't get over it, it's like I'm looking at Rory for the first time at the Ravenclaw table." Isabella cheered, and most of everyone agreed.

"And Romulus?... Black family beauty prevails." Aurora gawked at her friends and took a sip of her adult punch.

"Rather think Ronan looks good." Rabastan dwelled, and Evelyn chuckled.
"Your mini? Yes I suppose he'll grow into it." Aurora spat her drink as she tried to calm her laughter, which only caused the table to join in.

"They'll be heartbreakers is all I'm saying." Izzy teased, and Aurora denied it.

"They better bloody not be." It was a beautiful affair, especially when the kids had figured out how to properly play a Quidditch game.

And now they were all relaxing in the field just near the porch so the parents could overlook them. While the youngest gals were having a whole play it'd seem for their dollies.

"So is the bet still alive for the children being in Slytherin or Ravenclaw, because I want to change my vote," Avery added, and Rory could only roll her eyes as it was bound to happen.

"That's a decade long pledge, it's too late to swap," Amelia claimed, before comment that she still thinks the twins are Ravenclaw.
"I don't know, maybe Imara is a shy Slytherin." Coming from a girl who was indeed a shy Slytherin herself, it wasn't impossible.

"Well I cannot wait for a Lestrange Ravenclaw Jersey, I might have to order a few for myself." And all the witches at the table clinked their glasses in the sight of that, however up in the treehouse—Romulus and Imara had found themselves in a record of boredom.

"What do you suppose they're talking about?" Imara questioned, and Romulus turned to look over to how far the table was before smirking.

"Shut the door a bit will you? I'll grab the telescope." Having something to do now caused her to cheer and she shut the door before helping her brother to get the chance to see what the adults could be saying.

The others in age were all playing, or it was a combined little girl tea party that neither of the twins would've liked. And they weren't old enough to be at the adult table with the adult drinks, but they were told in the politest way possible by their mum otherwise.

So they had grabbed a bundle of snacks awhile ago and hurried up to the treehouse to hide away, and once he looked through telly Romulus found that the parents were rightly having a good time.

Which was a shock.

Their father held a bright smile, and when Imara saw she too cracked a grin.

"Papa always seems so sad."
"Well, mum hasn't forgiven him all much yet." He turned to look at her for a moment and she perked her lips and hummed.
"Do you think she will? Opa says what he's done is awful and we shouldn't be here." Well that's one way to put it Opa.

"But we have to go to Hogwarts."
"Why? I rather liked Ilvermorny, or did you skip the tour?" Romulus had indeed been on the lad's tour, and he hoped that there was hope for Hogwarts to live up to all that's been titled with.

"What are they saying?"

The eldest Lestrange son happened to be very good at reading lips, but the accent was making it rather difficult and he hadn't prepared for that.

"Quidditch, I don't think any of mums friends played."
"I think only...Blast, is it Maya or Rosa?"

"Sure you're thinking of Maya, that's Avery's daughter. Cara's age." Imara was about to make a comment about him making a list, but instead she laughed as it was already a habit of his to write everything forgetful down.

"Mum and Papa were married in 78'...I think we were just early." Romulus hesitated for a moment, but then he rose above the telescope to look at his sister. "That means they must've married right out of Hogwarts."

"I assume so, haven't you seen papa with mum? He's still smitten, and I've already heard them all say so." And Opa, Romulus added the thought.

"They've dated since their fourth year in Hogwarts, and I think they were friends beforehand..." He nicked his head and they found themselves underneath the treehouse, and he pointed up to the small etchings in the tree.

"Papa carved their initials!" Romulus continued to stare at it.

AB + RL

He knew his mother was a Black, same with her brother Regulus. But it felt so damn odd, why were they hiding?
And why was his father in prison?

If his father promised to be so honest with him, why hadn't he dared asked to question topics such as that?... It wasn't that Romulus was scared of the man—No. It was a different type of scared, if he angered his father...Would it be taken out on his mum?

Would he just leave?

He would have to play it smart, and he only had a few weeks left before Hogwarts anyhow. Both he and Imara spoke on the idea of a Hogwarts house, but they remained quiet on their assumption.

And it wasn't much of a surprise on that forefront.
