The rest of June was a blur, while July had been nearly wiped from the calendar and Aurora barely felt like she looked up from her work for a moment.
But the Order was still looming over her like a shadow.
So what did she had to the long list of meetings and in-person testings, was a personalize Order meeting. First Sirius was going to get a smack upside the head for not responding in the book, and then for blaming Remus for being the traitor.
Then Remus was going to get a smack for blaming Sirius and not responding to the book.
How dumb could these damn blokes be?!
Dumbledore took any reason to have Aurora in his mists, it meant that she hadn't switched sides. Though he had little doubt that she was the traitor, it was the constant vigilance that was still beating strong.
But if she hadn't changed her views at Hogwarts, they would most likely change their stance back then. Not in the sense of the war, but the threat of children still lingered in the back of everyone's mind.
"Suppose your stores downstairs would be lacking at one point."
"You heard Otto, I need a paper trail of transactions. If I knew this was so technical, I would've studied up on a few law books." She spoke, rallied her hair out of her cloak as her mind was already preparing for what she was about to hear at the meeting.
"My study is filled with them if you ever want a bit of light reading, don't stay too long darling. I wanted to treat you last week." She rolled her eyes and kissed her husband's cheek, sometimes it was indeed difficult to see how he could be a Death Eater.
"That wasn't your fault, the Dark Lord—"
"It looked as though he came first, we are pressing for time. And I want the Longbottoms to pay for what they've done to...I'm sorry love, enjoy your time out." Her hummed paired with a smile as she continued down the steps and hurried to Gringotts to take a few funds. She would need to make orders no matter what, as her stores were indeed close to empty.
The quick trip to Diagon Alley and Knockturn was easy, but with her constant chit chatter with the sellers it became the best excuse she could muster.
And her family were too trusting to think otherwise, instead she took the new address and knocked four times at the door before opened to see the tired face of Albus.
"I'm glad you could come Aurora, we're still waiting on—" Remus had peeked up behind Dumbledore in the living room of the safe house. It was a fluttering of relief that relished through Rory, until it wasn't.
Until it was dread for the situation.
"Remus. How are you?" A glance between either gave him all he needed to know, and embarrassment flared as his cheeks reddened as he stuttered an apology.
Not even bothering to answer the question.
"Yes, that's fine. But usually what is said in anger is what's in the back of one's head...But I'll save that when the other one comes." Remus stilled as he knew what she meant, that Sirius was coming.
It caused him to frown, grumbling in his tea as she sat beside him in the small living room. Dumbledore on the other hand was now off the books and she smiled.
"I'll send you a Patronus the next meeting I attend Albus." He nodded his head before wishing the two a pleasant evening, but nothing was going to be pleasant at all.
"So before I dive in on why I'm livid, how are you Remus? Really?" He smiled, she was indeed still the same Rory from Hogwarts, just four children later and with the very mother Dragon instincts.
"Well enough, and you? Cara's almost one." She squealed, reaching into her pocket to show photos of her babies.
And Remus had to agree that they were adorable. Even if he had to ignore the Death Eater in the background.
"Sweet goddess, is he always late?"
"Hm? Yeah, unfortunately." Rory hadn't thought of the details pertaining to these two having a fight like they have been, so what did that mean for their flat?
As Aurora asked further, it meant that Remus returned back to living with his parents. Not that he was there most of the time considering he was with the Werewolves for most of the years.
But the dark smile that erupted on her face when the door clicked open just scared the werewolf of what was to come.
"Well there he is! I knew he wouldn't stand up a direct order from Albus, see Remus." Her smile lasted all of two seconds after her starting pitch as it turned neutral in the second. Especially when Sirius had finally come into the room.
"Sit."
He was frozen as it had been a long while since he saw his sister, the longest in forever honestly. Even when she attended Salem would the Holidays bring them back together, but here they all were...Almost a year later and so much space between them.
"Now...I am going to be as calm as I possibly can, but I cannot believe that you two—think so ill of each other that you'd think the other the traitor." Her voice was firm, almost to the same extent she would give to her children if they weren't listening.
"Tell that to the werewolf." It sent Remus into a rage, all his Hogwarts insecurities falling at the seams. And the amount of wit and anger that flew from either of there mouths caused Aurora to grip both of them by the earlobe and pull.
"SILENCE! I will not stand here and watch two brothers, two people I love the most fall apart because of the war! Look deep in your heart and—"
"Oh shut it Rory, you're in your pretty manor with your beautiful family far away from the danger! You don't know what it's like to—" Sirius knew well enough that his sister was waiting for a target, because she lunged at Remus the first chance she got and locked him against the wall.
"You think...Gossiping with Death Eaters is joyful?! I was woken in the dead of night to see Regulus dead in Yaxyel's arms. Dead! Not unconscious, dead! So take that image you have off me and crush it because that is not who I am! I waited in the dark for either of you! And you left me in the dust!" She moved away from Remus, because at one point he was the reason she was still standing.
Instead she fell back to the armrest of the couch beside her, and although Sirius attempted to aid she shrugged it off.
"And you...Being racist is exactly how you were raised, and after all that time defending Remus, how is that your first weapon of defense!? Both of you are bloody thick to think the traitor is in this room. Yes. I know what you said Remmy." Well at least Sirius could lean back as he never spoke one word about his sister being the traitor.
But with the full moon on approach, Remus was flared up enough. Moony was reaching his own limitations as well.
"And so you've come to change our minds?"
"If it had been Remus I wouldn't have gotten in trouble with Rabastan for speaking to his father in public...And if it was Sirius then he would've met the children, but that's not how this has worked!" Her voice was starting to go raw, and she reached her hand now against her forehead and sighed.
"If you can't trust one another, how can I trust the two of you?" Her face was purely miserable, and Sirius had been the first to wrap his sister in hid hold.
Leaving the werewolf to stand alone.
"And we haven't seen you since Harry was born."
"Because I was working with Mr.Handson on a team to cure Dragon Pox." Her explanation could be fact-checked, though the team was now gone as she explained.
But a smile still rallied.
"I figured it out." Sirius, still torn about the traitor in the room beside them still fangirled over his little sister and her accomplishments that it pushed Remus further off edge.
He wanted her attention like he had in the beginning before Sirius had arrived.
An even better remembrance was her body pressed against him just moments ago when she tried to be threatening. And all he could think of are the dirty manifestations of what his wolf and him wanted.
"Brother and sister till the end...Perfect alibi isn't it? You claim to change, join the order...but you feed them information..." Aurora swallowed half-heartedly as she blinked away the tears. Remus thinking that she was involved hurt.
It hurt more than she thought it would. So she rose up from her brother's hold and looked to the tall, lean wizard before her. A sad smile creeping up.
"So while I stand here and defend you from my brother, and all I ever said about how it doesn't matter what's in here..." Remus relished the feeling of her hand pressed against his forehead, the coolness causing Moony to whine in the back of his mind, but all too easily had it move to his chest, his hand itching to interlock with hers.
But he stood his ground and squeezed his fist tighter.
"And here...Does that mean anything anymore? Because it everything to the boy I met in Hogwarts." Sirius damned his old mate to hell, after everything this is what broke them apart.
Remus lost his internal battle as he pressed her hand against his chest before wrapping his fingers to pull her metaphor away. It caused her heart to shatter further, as he dropped her hand.
Ending the connection.
"That was when you were a Black, not a Lestrange. I don't know what game you both are playing but I want no part of it." The wolf took his coat from the lone armchair off to the side and continued to the door.
"Remus...Remmy please—"
"No. Aurora. Stop." Aurora knew her brother couldn't be the traitor, anyone in the Black family house knew that.
The Death Eaters could smell the Gryffindor off him from miles away.
But Remus had already reached his last tick, especially when Rory was looking to him in a pleading form of pity.
"While you're in a warm bed fucking that Death eater of a husband, has it ever occurred to you how much of a murderer he is? How much of a follower your little Raba has a accomplish? Your membership with the Order doesn't amount to who you're sleeping with." Sirius has breathed out in a small voice of 'mate...' but it was too telling, it's what everything is thinking and Rory could only frown as she dictated her next response.
"That's the father of my children, I couldn't leave like Sirius did Remus! I'm bounded by contract after contract, and now I am bounded to my children. Who, might I add, are much better company than either of you at the moment!" If what Remus had said prior hurt, this was surely going to hurt worse.
"And what happens when they become Death Eaters? Or when your husband winds up in a cell right where he belongs?! Argue all you want Aurora but it's the truth, he's more than a right fowl git for calling you names in Hogwarts but this?! He's killed families!" Rory knew his anger was stemming from the collected hatred that's rallied to her husband, but it made her feel dirty.
Disgusted. Especially with herself.
"Don't do this Remus...Don't do this to James, or Lily or Harry. You push Sirius or I away then what will that do to them? We're supposed to protect Harry." Remus hadn't spoke another word, and it was up to Sirius to sooth his sister so that she could return back to her manor.
It was well past the time where she needed to leave. But every time she mentioned it, he tightened the embrace around her.
"You're right...Prongs doesn't know."
"I can't visit them Siri, I have to hide enough as is...Every time I have a vision I can't—" Sirius didn't need an explanation, but surely when he goes the next time he'd put in a good word to Harry about his Godmother...
Especially with all she's doing.
"And the husband?"
"He was gone for weeks last years, two and a half months...Almost mist Cara's birth, he's still managing to make amends. But he, Roldophous and Bella are still locked on finding the Longbottoms." A long sight relished in Sirius, he had a hard time believing that Regulus is dead.
But he was really thriving in America.
Part of Rory wanted to tell her brother about their father's enchanted painting, saying how proud Orion is of Sirius and all that he's accomplished...But now wasn't the time, she needed to go and everyone needed to be careful.
"We need to meet again Siri, please write to me...Please."
"I solemnly swear Rory, stay safe. Curse that husband of yours the first chance you get." She giggled, her eyes still threatening to break the hold at any moment.
"I'm proud of you Rory, cracking Dragon Pox?"
"You have to keep that a secret, it's in the works of being massively produced. It's a good thing I own part of Malfoy apothecary." Sirius didn't have much good news at this point, his solemn face crack with a bright shine.
Seemed like Narcissa was the only Black to favor Lucius Malfoy.
With another dozen hugs between the couch and the door, was Sirius left alone in the safe house that felt anything but safe. And Rory apprented straight to the front steps of her esteem manor.
But whist craning her neck to see the beautiful architecture and history of the Lestrange line...She felt a build-up in the core of her skull, the sensation turned tense, causing her to grip the lined fence as she held her eyes closed until her pupils widened with the blinding appearance of her seer eyes.
And nothing of what she was pleasant as her last vision.
"Sister...What did you see?" She turned to see Rodolphous, had he been taking a cigar break? Rory didn't know, nor did she care as she choked out whatever words that formed first.
"Didn't catch that darling...What—Cassi sit down." He gripped her tightly by the waist and gestured to the steps before them both.
And one word fell off her lips in a far worse telling than he was expecting...And Rodolphous shivered at the thought.
"Azkaban."
