Hogwarts
"You think mum will let me have her old broom?" Imara said under her breath, the two had been so caught up with assignments and lectures that they hardly got the chance to explore. So they took it upon themselves to use the Saturday where most of the castle was vacant, due to the students heading to Hogsmead.
"Nah 'mara, that thing's older than us. Mum'll have a fit. But look at this, mum scored the most consecutive points on the Ravenclaw team."
"Alright, fifty galleons, we can beat that before we graduate." She said with a devious grin.
"Merlin sakes, we didn't even pass our flight class yet."
"Flight class? Madam Hooch hardly took one look at us ever since we said our names, Mum and Papa were both Quidditch players and so was Regulus and Sirius. It's in our blood." Romulus rolled his eyes and smiled to see both Regulus and Sirius in their respectable spots.
"Do you think he did it?" Imara questioned, and it caused her brother to shoot his head back towards her. "Do what?"
"That's James Potter, isn't it?... You can't look at someone like that and wish them harm Rommy. I don't think Uncle Sirius would do something that malicious."
"Oi weren't you telling me I should stop listening to mom and Uncle Reg talking?" Imara shrugged her shoulder, not denying that she certainly heard a good deal.
Though never about their father like Romulus had.
"Mum trusted you more." She whispered, eyeing the moving picture of Potter and Sirius. "But we're the same age."
"So? Even Reggie was telling us both that being the eldest meant stepping up—But he was looking at you, I think it's a Brit thing too." Romulus rolled his eyes and took another look at the Quidditch trophies.
"Why do you think father did what he did?" He questioned, and Imara bit her lip.
"It didn't sound like much of a chose, if his brother and sister were already involved—And Reggie was up next in line after him, it sounded like he sold his soul before ever signing up." She responded with the same hint of questioning her father's morals that her brother had.
"Imara! Romulus!" A shout called out and either twin turned to see the in sync sprint of their counter twins. And in seeing this, Imara turned her head down for a moment with her hair switching shades and a long hooked nose forming on her face.
"No running in the hallways you bronzy Gryffindors, twenty-thousand points!" The witch issued in the voice of Professor Snape, all before shaking her head to lose the appearance.
"Oh that was brilliant 'Mara! You'll have to try it again, next time I'll see if we can get you a black cloak. Best to keep up appearance, he's Slytherin's head of house after all." Fred informed and the gal nodded.
"What's up?" She beamed up with a smile, and either twin scrambled to their pockets before George produced a parcel. "Professor McGonagall didn't want you to wait until later, it just came in about ten minutes ago." Seeing their father's script caused Romulus' attention to peak as he didn't hesitate to tear the seal and scan it.
"Mum's out of the hospital...Thank goddess! She's going to be alright!" Romulus cheered just as Imara finished their father's writings.
"Father's in for it, do you remember when mum fell off the hippogriff and uncle couldn't get her to rest for twenty minutes for Aidan to get back home from work?" The memory caused Romulus' eyes to widen, he quickly shook his head.
"We best warn him, thanks mate. Next package mum sends, you can have the chips."
"Chips? Is that a muggle snack?" George said with a confused tilt to his head and Imara simply laughed along and explained to either of what American chips consisted of and shared some of her favorite flavors.
While they weren't muggle entirely, they were considered currency within Salem's school because there wasn't a snack shed on campus that sold them, unfortunately. Making them worth their weight in gold, funny enough Fred and George grinned at the challenge of making it the same way.
—Lestrange Manor—
"Rory please, you've been on your feet for far too long today as is. Could you—"
"Rabastan my legs are aching to stretch, goddess I've been laying down for almost two weeks! Let me walk." The two parents bickered back and forth, and while it was hilarious in the beginning for Lori to see how playful the two could get.
The annoyance was starting to drive the adults mad, and Lori right alongside with them. It wasn't the best environment for the young Lestrange daughter to be near, so the addition of a playdate made it easier to bid time.
However it was the following Monday when the elf introduced the visiter of an auror. And sure Rabastan was thankful that he'd been the first to hear, but Aurora had been quick to join the conversation.
"Mrs. Lestrange...I'm afraid I come with bad news." Aurora turned ridged, and the look that plastered over her face could only hold for so long.
"Pair it with good news then, I'm on the last limb of sanity." She curtly replied, which is when Rabastan came over to help her off towards the nearest chair.
"Your husband has violated his at home arrest, he is being charged with—"
"My husband took me to the hospital, he remained there by my side the entire duration. If you want to take that up with the hospital you may, but the next time you want to point fingers at least know where you was off to." The snippy voice of Aurora Lestrange had caused a ranked Auror to buffer and choke at his own thoughts, and Rabastan hardly had the chance to understand what had happened before Aurora rose back to her feet.
"If you want anything more I suggest you talk to my lawyer. You're excused." Rabastan couldn't say a word without laughing at the decorated bloke that ran off with his tail between his legs.
However Aurora's head snapped towards him and thus, caused him to still his buckling shoulders. "And you, gods you couldn't let your Auror know that you were away for a reason?"
"I'm sorry that I couldn't think about anything other than my ill wife. How many times have we been in the same situation of you being ill or injured?" She huffed, knowing that he was being genuine but that caused her to groan.
"I'll owl the lawyers...You should be resting anyway."
"I am, see? I'm wearing my bed robe and socks with slippers. That's as far as I'm going to get Raba, this needs to get done." He rolled his eyes but put his own work to the side to manage it well.
The arrival of Aurora's owl had caused Rabastan to groan, he was just waiting for the ink to dry to be able to send his parcel. In looking up properly he realized that it was not his wife's owl, but his children's.
"Ah, and what are they up to today?"
"Nothing, it's mostly from Imara. Romulus is still a bit peeved at me." Rabastan found himself sad for his wife, it was clear that it bothered her whenever the children were upset or unnerved. But he knew full well that she had spoken to Snape, about a few things he was sure of.
But above all, it was about her children that were starting to trickle in. Ah yes, that was surely going to be an eventful—The giggle had taken him out of his thoughts as he turned forward and sought after the parcel that was making his wife smile.
He could do with some good news.
"And what would be so funny?"
"Oh nothing, just that our children have found themselves friends with a bunch of trouble makers. Look, 'we managed to place a dung bomb on the Slytherin's common room door. Professor Snape instantly took fifty points from Fred and George the following class because they were still giggling.' This is gold." Part of Aurora knew that Rabastan was going to act this way regardless of who the young wizard was in mention of the parcel.
But she's heard a few of these stories already, and she thought it hilarious. "Who the hell are Fred and George?"
"Her boyfriends, Merlin, catch up." Now she truly threw her head back in record of that reaction as she folded up the parchment and leaned back.
"Come on, I didn't start thinking about lads until fourth year. Maybe you're lucky and she won't recognize a bloke until fifth year."
"I'll be praying for that tonight, and Romulus? You don't think he'll have his head in the books?"
"I think he'll look up once he's found the right gal. I mean...I looked up and saw you, didn't I?" She deemed, and for a moment Rabastan's worry washed away.
But then he felt relieved that he recalled what he told Romulus about lads fancying his sister, of course it was in the judgment of later years. "I suppose it makes sense if they're all in Ravenclaw..."
"Oh no dear, they're Gryffindors." She rolled her eyes and attempted to read the next half of the letter but Rabastan demanded his wife's attention.
"A Gryffindor?"
"I believe I said they're twins, and what of it? The classes are so small nowadays that every house share classes all at once. It was bound to happen, and besides, they met on the train. That's a given friendship right there." Rabastan gritted his teeth, knowing full well this was not at all what he expected in the first year.
Perhaps it was the sense that he's stuck in time, but he could only imagine what the population of Hogwarts males would look at Imara—Hell, he hated that they looked at Aurora that way!
"She isn't getting married until—"
"Until she's twenty-five." Aurora finished for her husband, and he looked over to see her risen brow. "They're friends, Rabastan, and it's the only ones they've mentioned besides Monty. Who's Romulus' roommate." She didn't know what was worse, that her husband was going to have a rude awakening at the fact that Monty is a muggle-born or that the twins made friends with the Weasley twins.
So they remained anonymous in his mind as he truly could only take so much heartbreak. What Aurora wasn't aware of however, was the fact that either set of children—Both in Hogwarts and Salem, had decided to make it a pact to send their little sister pictures.
And damnit Aurora couldn't handle her husband that night, not when he laid on his back staring at the ceiling as though they had the answer.
Aurora herself had been curled up on the opposite, just seconds away from joining the world of the unconscious when her husband sighed out loud again. "Do you recall when your friends started seeking sexual relations? I can't recall when McNair and Avery—"
"Rabastan, love...It's almost one in the morning and I've humored your theories for the past two hours. Sleep. Or else I'm going into the guest room...And from what I recall, Harper and Izzy were the first to really test the waters. Clem waited until marriage like me, the times are changing Rabastan. Gals don't see the point of waiting anymore."
"What?! Why the hell not?" It caused Aurora to raise her head and turn a risen brow up.
"Because sex is fun? Because it's what teenagers find fun? What do you plan on telling Romulus when he starts getting urges?" This gave her the perfect time to fall asleep.
Though now she pretended to actually be asleep.
"I will tell him that when he found the right gal and if she was comfortable that it'd be alright. And our daughters? What would you tell them?"
"To jump the first bloke that smiles at them."
"AURORA!"
"What?! Rabastan I'm tired! I have an appointment tomorrow and a meeting. Could you knock it off? This is seriously not what you should be worrying about right now. Not marriage, not all of this, they're still children until sixteen. Worry about it then." She said, bringing her pillow away from him and curling up the farthest away.
His curiosity was starting to irritate her beyond comprehension.
Instead he leaned forward and snuck his hand to her waist and pulled her close. "I'm sorry, love. Goodnight."
