Fandom: The Divergent Trilogy
Setup: Y/N is shaken after her first time through the fear simulators in the faction of Dauntless, and Tris comforts her and shows her to the zipline.
Y/N's POV
I'm shaking and crying as I leave the room.
I wipe my nose on my arm, trying to stifle my sniffles. I'm Dauntless. I'm supposed to be fearless. . . Aren't I?
I see her, and my heart skips a beat. My crush. No. She can't see me cry, she'll think I'm stupid and weak.
Too late for that.
Tris's eyebrows crease. "Y/N? What's wrong?"
"It's. . . Nothing." I look away, and I feel her hand on my shoulder, making me jump.
"It was the fear sims, wasn't it?" She asks quietly, searching my gaze. I nod, unable to suppress my pain any longer. "Wanna talk about it?" My body didn't give me a choice, my brain spun, my heart raced, and my mouth spilled all the details.
Tris hugs me gently, and wipes my tears away. I feel a blush rise to my cheeks. "Those freak me out, too." She admits, looking me in my E/C eyes.
"Really?" The word escapes my lips quickly.
She nods.
"But I thought Dauntless were supposed to be fearless." I mumble.
"Not fearless; fear less. No one is born fearless, Y/N. The sims are to build our strength against our fears and help eradicate them, but most people just get better and some will get over a few fears, but no one is ever completely fearless." She tells me. Then she says,
"You know, my uh, my crush told me I was someone sh--they looked up to and, I couldn't help feeling awkward because well, I look up to them for their courage as well." My eyes grow wide in shock.
". . . I-I told you that. . . You mean. . . Unless someone else--"
She cuts me off. "Y/N, I've been wanting to tell you. . . I like you a lot. Like a crush. But I get it if you don't like me back! I mean--"
"I do! I'm gay too, I like you back!" My eyes are all lit up, and I feel one of my fears dissipate, the fear that the person I like would expect too much out of me or hate me.
Tris smiles and kisses my cheek, taking my hand. "C'mon, I've got somewhere to show you." I get up quickly, happily following her as she leads me to the ziplines. My eyes grow wide for a minute as we stand in line. "It's fun, I promise." Her beautiful eyes are aglow. I nod, and watch her go before me. When I'm strapped in, I'm about to back down but then I'm pushed off. I want to scream, but then I realize, Hell, this is amazing!
I grin and yell, "WOO-HOOOO!!" I never wanted this to end. The chill of the night on my skin, the wind in my hair, the light in my eyes, and the energy in my body pushed all my fears down as I felt free, almost flying through the dark. When it was over, I'm greeted by Tris, who hugs me tightly.
"That was amazing!" I breathe, grinning. "Can we go again?"
"Of course!" She grabs my hand, but I stop in place. "Hey Tris?"
"Yeah?" She looks at me, and I inch closer to her. "Is it okay if I. . ." I don't have time to finish before she cuts me off with a kiss on the lips. "Anytime." She grins, giving me another hug.
It was the best night I'd ever had.
