what about Teresa?

  Alivia's POV

"Hey, Newt- hand me that rake?" I asked, brushing the hair out of my face. Working on the fields right now wasn't on the top of my want-to-do list, but it had to be done.

He nodded, picking it up and giving it. "Here darling."

I laughed. "Thanks darling."

He shrugged and went back to his tomatoes, adjusting the vines.

"So you wanted to ask me something?" I asked Thomas who'd been standing behind me.

He'd told me he wanted to ask me something, finally, after weeks of not talking to me.

Thomas' eyes where narrowed and he shook his head. "Never mind."

I sighed.

"Thomas- come on. Just tell me."

He shook his head and walked away, angry.

"What was that about?" Newt asked, his accent ringing in my ears.

"I don't know." I shrugged.

I sat in my room, Thomas' peculiar activity still stuck on my brain.

He's been like this for a while now, being super distant. Him walking up to me today was the most I've seen of him in the past two weeks.

Was it something I did?

Does he not want to talk to me anymore?

What did I do?

My self-condescending thoughts were interrupted by a knock on my door.

"Alivia, come out. You've been in there forever. Gladers are starting to worry." Newts muffled voice came through the door.

"Who cares what they think. They don't know." I yelled back, shuffling further into my bed.

Okay, I might've taken this sulking thing a little too far.

"Thomas is getting worried." He stated. I sighed.

"No he's not. He won't even talk to me."

Newt sighed before I heard him walk away.

Was Thomas really worried?

My curiosity pushed me out of bed and I trudged to the door, swinging it open.

Newt turned around from a couple feet away and smiled.

"There she is." He said, walking towards me. I pulled him into a hug and he returned it.

"Where's this worried Thomas?" I smirked, letting go. Newt let out a laugh before leading me.

We walked up to the tree house, Newt looking up.

"Last I saw him, he went up there." He pointed. I nodded and went towards the ladder.

"Good luck."

I smiled and continued up the ladder. Yes, Newt knew about my feelings for Thomas. He was my best friend and he guessed anyways.

I reached the door to the top and raised my hand, pushing it up. I stood up slightly, to see Thomas and Teresa kissing.

My throat released a whimper slash gasp, catching their attention.

"Alivia!" Thomas yelled, backing up from Teresa. I felt a tear run down my cheek, so I slammed the door down and quickly went down the ladder.

"No- wait!" I heard him shuffle down the ladder.

I jumped off, ignoring the pain that shot up my ankle. I broke into a run, heading straight back to my room.

"Hey!" He yelled again, his voice closer. Obviously, using his runner speed.

I pushed my body harder, trying to beat him.

Until I feel arms wrap around my waist, pushing me to the ground. I land on my back, Thomas laying on top.

His heavy breathing fanned on my face, matching my own.

"I need to explain." He sighed.

"I need you to get off me." I snapped, wiggling under his weight.

"No. Cause then you won't listen. Now- you have to."

I groaned and slammed my head back on the ground.

"I don't like Teresa." He shook his head.

"Yeah. You looked really in pain when your lips were on hers." I scoffed.

"I meant- I don't want to be with her. Not like I want to be with you."

"Then why kiss her? And- why not talk to me for three weeks. Three weeks Thomas." I asked, wanting an explanation.

"Because of you!" He exclaimed, staring straight into my eyes.

"Me?"

"Yes! I've been trying to tell you for the longest time- how much I like you. But every time I tried I bailed out, and then you and Newt..." He trailed off.

"Newt is my best friend, Thomas. I don't like him like that." I sighed.

"Really?" He asked

"Yes, really."

He smiled and leaned down, pressing his lips to mine. As much as I wanted to join in, believe me it's a lot, I couldn't.

I broke the kiss, turning my head.

He leaned back, confused.

"What about Teresa?" I sighed, looking back at him.

"I needed someone to get you off my mind." He admitted.

"So, no feelings? For Teresa?" I clarified.

"Nothing. Only for you." He nodded, his smile growing bigger.

"Good." I smirked, pulling him in for another kiss.
