Living in a world that was unknown, riddled with monsters and creatures that were unknown to you was a nightmare. But everything was better when he was by your side. Going town after town to rescue families from vampires and wendigo's was not the type of future you had envisioned for yourself.
Regardless, you wouldn't change it for anything.
Out on our own
Dreaming of a world that we both know
Is out of our control
Tom and you often fantasized and dreamed of a world where these monsters wouldn't exist, somewhere you guys could walk down to the market without the fear of being attacked. A world where you could feel safe and create your own little families.
A world that didn't exist.
But if shit hits the fan we're not alone
Regardless of the type of world you lived in or created, you knew you were never alone. Your friendship with Tom had lasted years and withstood against families, friends, and enemies. At least you weren't alone, and sometimes that's all you needed to reassure yourself that everything would be fine.
'Cause you got me and you know
That I've got you and I know
There was never a day you wouldn't reassure each other, through hugs, smiles, and sometimes even with a "Watch out!" as you found yourselves on the battlefield against a new enemy.
If the tide takes California
I'm so glad I got to hold ya
And if the sky falls from heaven above
Oh, I know I had the best time falling into love
What he didn't know, something you had never told anyone, was that you were in love. But you were afraid of making a move, afraid of changing the dynamic you guys have had for years because it had always been just you and Tom. People came and went, you changed and Tom changed, but your friendship remained intact.
After the latest battle, which had left the both of you scrambling for an ounce of hope, you promised yourself that you would tell him. Living in a world riddled with monsters and creatures, there was always that one voice in the back of your mind that told you "maybe today is the end, maybe you won't come back from this one". Regardless of how many times you tried to quiet the voice down, it was right.
The risk of the world ending was greater now that you had found out your destiny. You could be asleep one night and never wake up, or find Tom bleeding out somewhere with no chance of survival. This just increased the worry you felt in the pit of your stomach at the thought of continuing to live in this world without him by your side, if you didn't confess.
We've been living on a fault line
And for a while, you were all mine
I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart
I swear that I'll be yours forever
If forever falls apart
Granted, you were on a case once more, and you still couldn't admit your feelings for him, no matter how much you tried. And did you try, various times to talk to him, but it seemed like Tom was too distracted on the matter to try and understand what you were trying to say. Yet, in the back of your mind, you knew he was yours and you were his. You didn't know if he truly reciprocated the feelings you had for him, but you knew that the friendship you guys had was everlasting, no matter how many more rotten years you had in that world, he was yours, and you were his.
So this is it, that's how it ends
I guess there's nothing more romantic than dying with your friends
And I'm not sorry for myself
I wouldn't wanna spend a minute loving anybody else
Tom sat across from you at the ratty diner, as you sipped your milkshake, going over the folders you had compiled of the recent case. You looked beautiful to him, an ethereal picture of what he encompassed as his first true love. He had been in love with you for years, but he was afraid of speaking up and saying anything. You were too good for him, and in the years he had gotten the chance to get to know you, the two of you had developed a relationship he didn't want to ruin. A perfectly flowing friendship that he was sure would change if he were to say anything about the feelings he had been hiding for years.
You had always teased him when both of you had been in school, when he looked at another girl, or had someone come up to him to ask him out. He didn't feel special, yet you knew he was. But he only said yes because he knew he had to get over you, bury those feelings that he had developed for you. There was never a hint that you liked him back, or felt the same way he did, so he never pushed it.
But after a while, you noticed that he would turn down dates and push other girls away, opting to hang out with you instead of spending it in another girl's bed. This was surprising but when you asked, he would make up a lame excuse. She wasn't the one, she was odd. I didn't feel like it. I promised we would go study, I don't flake.
While he wasn't lying, he also wasn't telling the truth. He let himself be a little selfish, and instead of loving others, he spent it loving you from afar.
I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart
I swear that I'll be yours forever
'Till forever falls apart
Tom walked in front of you, gun in hand as you watched behind him, keeping yourself and himself safe. This had been risky and your stomach riddled with nerves kept bringing up alarm bells in your head as you tried your best to shake them off. But something about this case had kept you up at night, and you weren't sure why.
That's when you and Tom were ambushed, as you both ran for cover and began fighting back. Before he realized what had happened, you were on the ground, scratch marks covering your arms and one across your chest as you cried out, aiming and shooting your weapon as the creature fell to the ground, all the other ones disappearing as you managed to fight them off.
"Y/n!" Tom cried out as he ran over to you, cradling you in his arms. "You're gonna be fine!"
You nodded, the stinging of the marks across your body burning with every move as he placed both arms under your body, being careful of not pressing on your wounds before he ran you both out, and into his car. The destination was unknown, as the name of a fellow doctor who had treated these wounds came to mind, as he drove you there. You were in and out at this point, not being able to maintain a clear thought as the world spun around you. The tears across your skin were no longer burning, but now just a dull throbbing.
"Hang on!"
'Till forever falls apart
We never had it from the start
'Till death do us part
He clung to your hand as a friend stitched you up and provided you with the nutrients you needed. He had assured Tom that everything would be fine but nothing resonated in his mind until he saw you awake and smiling at him. Nothing was truly okay until you told him you were okay.
So when you woke up and groaned, Tom was immediately at your side, making sure you were okay and reassuring you that everything was done. You guys had cleared the house and rid it of anything supernatural. You would be okay.
You would live.
Smiling, you brought a hand up to caress his cheek as he stared at you, his eyes sparkling in adoration.
"Tom, I almost died tonight. But I didn't," she paused and wiped a tear that fell from his eyes, "Because of you. You saved me."
"I have something I need to say," Tom sighed and held your hands in his. "I love you."
"I know."
Smiling, you both leaned in and sealed your conversation with a kiss.
"Till forever falls apart?"
"Till forever falls apart."
