GONE FOREVER (part 2) || asa butterfield

As Asa kept driving, I looked out the window, noticing a crowd of people running away from the city. Looking closer, I noticed the creatures had come back and were following them.
"Asa! Speed up!"
He did as I told him, looking in the rearview mirror, muttering profanities under his breath as he reached his hand to honk the horn before my hand reached out and grabbed it, stopping his motions abruptly.
"Don't! It's only going to attract them more!"
He nodded before putting both hands on the steering wheel and getting off the bridge. He kept driving, making sure no one was following him before he stopped 30 minutes later at a gas station.
"Here. When you're done pumping the gas, give me a shout."
I turned and jogged inside the station, gun in hand as I realized it was deserted. Not even the manager was there. I headed straight for the back, where there was caffeine waiting for me, sweets, and chips. I opened the bag I had with me and started grabbing Starbucks drinks, soda, energy drinks, chocolate, snacks, chips and a couple magazines. I grabbed a couple bottles of liquor and a couple beers. Since it was the apocalypse and we were gonna die, better do it in style and drunk.
"Y/n!"
I turned, seeing Asa waving at me, signaling he was done pumping the gas. I turned, grabbing one last coffee drink and turned on my heel, grabbing a packet of cigarettes and a lighter before running to Asa.
"Ready?"
"You smoke?"
He was looking down at the pack in your hand.
"No. But I thought what the hell."
He chuckled, putting the gas back and opening the driver's side for me, as we switched who was driving this time. I handed him the bag full of food before he got in the car and I drove off towards a random destination.
"Any requests for food?"
I stayed silent, contemplating what I wanted and realized it didn't really matter since we might get some more.
"Starbucks."
"That's not food, that's a drink."
"Whatever."
Asa laughed at my reaction and opened a bottle, handing it to me and steering the wheel while I drank a little. As soon as I handed it to him, I took the steering wheel back and thanked him.
"If you want, go ahead and sleep, I might be driving for a while so you can get some sleep now and drive at night while I sleep."
"All good with me."
He shifted in his seat, bringing it back and lying down, closing his eyes. I reached for my phone, which was in my pocket and connected it to the speakers, putting on a song from Eurythmics, which had been my favorite since I was a little girl. Sweet Dreams (are made of this) by Eurythmics.
Electric piano notes floated from the speakers to my ears as I bobbed my head with the music and kept my eyes on the road, occasionally singing with the track and humming along.
"You sing really good."
I jumped in my seat as I realized that Asa was still awake, a little groggy, but awake. And he had been watching me sing and dance to the tune. How embarrassing.
"Thanks. I don't really sing."
"Shut up. It's so obvious you do. You joined... a band?"
"I did."
"I could tell. You have this vibe from you."
"What kind of vibe?"
"A rock-pop vibe. Also, an oldies vibe."
"This music isn't old!"
"Well, it's good, I tell you that. I actually enjoy Eurythmics, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Nirvana, and more."
"Seriously?"
He nodded, before laying back down and looking at me. Feeling self-conscious, I quickly shifted in my seat awkwardly and kept my eyes on the road, occasionally making eye-contact with Asa by accident.

"You're beautiful."
I heard Asa mutter in his sleep as I turned, seeing him eyes closed and curled up in his seat.
Was he dreaming about.. me?
Asa shifted in his seat, as he opened his eyes and yawned, smiling crookedly.
"Morning."
"Actually, afternoon. It's almost time to switch spots."
"I need to go."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah.."
"Okay. We are about 5 minutes away from the nearest gas station. Can you wait?"
He nodded, as I went to grab my hair in a ponytail. Asa gripped the steering wheel, helping me maneuver the car as I finally finished and thanked him.
Once we arrived at the gas station, Asa practically ran out of the car, as I refilled the gas tank and ran inside the station to find food and drinks. As I realized, they had more of a variety and I picked out a couple things.
"Y/n! Let's go!"
I turned, seeing Asa and a random figure behind him. I realized he didn't see the creature, which was nearing him, arms out in front of it to grab onto Asa.
"Asa! Duck!"
He quickly went into a crouching position as I shot the creature between it's eyes, killing it instantly and telling Asa to get in the car, where he drove this time.
"He could have killed you!"
"I'm sorry! I didn't see him!"
"Good thing you were with me or you would have turned into the creature."
"Yeah."
I turned to Asa, who suddenly, looked really attractive. The sun was hitting his face at just the right angle to show all the shadows he had been hiding. His jawline was perfect and his eyes glittered in the light. They were a lighter shade of blue, as I got lost in them fairly quickly. Asa had noticed me looking as he moved the car over to the side and quickly parked.
"What are you doing?"
"This."
Asa brought his hand up to my cheek, caressing the skin before pulling me closer. Our lips were ghosting over each others as Asa looked me in the eyes before I nodded and connected both of us. To say that he was an awful kisser was an understatement. Asa knew how to kiss.
Our lips fit together perfectly as I locked my hands behind his neck and he brought his hands down to my waist, where he used his strength to bring me over, onto his lap. His hands still on my waist, he tilted his head slightly so we wouldn't bump our noses.
As we parted, I locked eye contact with him, smiling and laughing.
"That was amazing."
"Yeah."
"I can't believe I had my first kiss with a boy I never met during a zombie apocalypse."
"Well, there's always a first for everything, right?"
"Right."
