GONE FOREVER (part 1) || asa butterfield

"Y/n don't come home!"

"What?"

"I repeat. do not come home, under any circumstances."

The phone was cut off as I stared at my blank screen. Sam was standing next to me as I looked at her quizzically. The tv at the top of the classroom suddenly turned on, revealing the news.

"Breaking news. A virus has spread throughout the city and has infected anyone in its way. People have said their victims might look like something from a horror movie. Stay clear of the streets and stay inside, no matter how much you have to go outside, don't."

Sam looked over as everyone in class started panicking. We each exchanged looks as Sam dialed her house phone, then both her parents' phone numbers. None of them answered as we stood there, in the middle of class.

"I'm getting out of here."

"Well, we can't keep you here, no matter what the news say."

The teacher spoke to us as everyone ran out of the room, a couple staying inside and some crouched under desks to keep calm. I grabbed my car keys, backpack, and jogged out of the school. Pushing people out of my way, I headed towards my car, immediately turning on the ignition and driving home.

As I got home, I kept the car running, as I ran inside and immediately heard noises from upstairs. I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and made my way upstairs.

"Mom? Dad?"

Instead of seeing my parents upstairs, minding their own business I came face to face with my mother, who looked like a.. zombie?

"Mom?"

The creature I once called my mother started chasing me downstairs, as I turned and threw the knife straight at her head, killing her immediately. Blood splattered all over my shirt as I gasped and ran upstairs. Looking through my father's drawers, I found his old gun and extra ammo, immediately putting it inside my jeans and running downstairs, into my car and driving away to the supermarket.

I reeked of blood, as I parked the car behind, locking it and running inside. Grabbing the first shopping cart close to me, I started running through the store, grabbing anything in my reach and throwing it inside the cart.

"Hey! Leave those! They are mine!"

I stopped, reaching for my gun and turning around to see a boy being beaten by two other teenage boys.

"Stop! Leave him alone!"

Once they heard my voice, they ran, leaving the boy on the ground, bruises scattered across his body.

"Are you okay?"

He coughed, and thanked me, as I reached out my hand to help him up. The boy towered over me, as my petite height only reached him up to his shoulders.

"Are you going to be okay?"

He nodded.

I turned, starting to leave before I felt his hand on my shoulder, stopping me.

"Can I come with you?"

I nodded before he threw all the things he had gotten in his cart over to mine and headed around the store for more food and anything we may need.

After a couple minutes, we had two carts full of anything we could find. We headed outside and loaded everything into the car, throwing a couple things in the backseat for the journey. I threw the carts over to the entrance before unlocking the car and getting in. I started driving away from the store, as they boy remained quiet during the ride.

"My names Asa. Asa Butterfield."

I turned, with a smile before introducing myself.

"I'm y/n"

"Nice to meet you. Thanks for helping me back there."

"You're welcome. Why were they beating you up?"

"They were trying to steal my things."

"Seriously?"

"Well, it's the zombie apocalypse and everyone wants to survive. Anyone would kill now just to get a roll of toiler paper. It's unbelievable."

"Yeah."

"Where are we headed?"

"Far away from here. Somewhere we can be safe."

I turned, driving over a bridge which extended far as I noticed a zombie walking around. I started slowing down, before stopping the car a couple feet from the creature.

"Asa?"

"Yeah?"

"We're gonna switch seats."

"Why?"

"Just trust me. I have a plan."

"Okay."

I clicked off my seatbelt, climbing over and sitting down on Asa's lap before he moved and headed to the driver's seat.

"Start driving slowly. When you get close, have the creature on my side and drive."

"Okay."

He started driving, as I unlocked the door and kept my hand on the handle.

"Speed up."

He did as I told him, and right before we passed the creature, I swung open the door, decapitating the creature and killing it instantly.

"Woah!"

I closed the door, turning to Asa who looked surprised at my action.

"That was cool."

"I didn't think it would work."

"How did you learn to do that?"

"I saw it in a movie once."

"Seriously? That was pretty damn cool."

"Thanks."

Asa kept driving, as I put on his seatbelt and I clicked mine on as well. Reaching behind me, I grabbed a bottle water and opened it, drinking halfway before putting it back.

"Where do you want me to drive?"

"Anywhere. We'll stop for gas when it starts to run out."

"Alright. Don't you want to change? You still have blood all over your clothes."

"Maybe. Where is the nearest shopping mall?"

"Um, 2 miles away."

"Let's head over and I'll grab some clothes for both of us. What size are you?"

He gave me his clothing size as I grabbed my gun and made sure it worked.

"Do you want me to turn off the car?"

"No. Keep it running. I'll be back in 5 minutes."

Running inside, I headed to the women's section before grabbing 5 pairs of jeans in my size, 3 pairs of converse and 7 new t-shirts. Running to the men's section, I grabbed Asa a couple clothes for himself and pairs of shoes. In no time, I ran towards the car and jumped inside, throwing everything in the backseat and yelling for Asa to start driving.

A couple miles into our trip, I undid my seatbelt and started taking off my blood-stained shirt.

"Woah, what are you doing?"

"Changing."

"In front of me?"

"Does it bother you?"

"No.."

"Whatever."

I slipped on another shirt and tied my shoelaces. The blood-stained shirt was thrown out the window as I noticed people running around.

"What's happening?"

"I don't know."
