Remember the Tour Bus? | Josh Dun

This specific soulmate AU was made up by somebody else (on tumblr), so if you know who, please comment!

Summary: You're Tyler Joseph's little sister, and you have a crush on his best friend, Josh Dun. He has a crush on you, too. Add in the fact that every time you kiss someone, their name appears on your skin, and if it doesn't go away after twenty four hours, they're you're soulmate, then things get even more complicated.

QOTP: Vessel era or Blurryface era?

Being on tour with your brother and his best friend is fun. Add in the fact that they have an actual tour bus this time around, and that makes it even better.

What doesn't make it better is the fact that you have a crush on your brother's best friend, Josh.

Yeah...

Anyway, you know Tyler would flip if anything ever came of it, so you've been trying to get over it. However, he doesn't make it easy for you.

He's just so sweet to you all the time, and you know that's only because you're Tyler's little sister (even if you are just two years younger). Still, you can't help but wonder...

You're starting to think that maybe it's because you just want somebody, and Josh is the closest option. It's just hard seeing couples around you, happy, with each other's names written somewhere on their bodies. Soulmates.

You just want to find yours.

You've tried before. A few guys seemed like they could be the one, but twenty four hours after you kissed them, their names disappeared from your body, and you knew it wasn't meant to be.

So, you sit, and you wait, not letting yourself think that maybe you'll never find your soulmate at all.

"Y/N?" A hand is waving in front of your face — Josh's. He raises his eyebrows at you, looking a little concerned. "You okay?"

You'd been thinking about your soulmate again, lost in your thoughts. You smile a little to reinforce your answer. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just zoned out for a second, that's all."

"Okay..." He's skeptical, but he doesn't want to push it. If you wanted to tell him, you would.

He just really wishes you would.

Unbeknownst to you, Josh has a crush on you, too. He knows if he ever did anything about it, Tyler would flip, but he's more scared of rejection than that. Honestly, he kind of hopes that you're soulmates. Tyler couldn't argue with it, then, and you wouldn't reject him. Not if you were made for each other. But, if he actually finds out that you aren't, then that's it. That tiny sliver of hope that's holding out against that one in a billion chance is gone. So, he tries not to think about it.

"Alright, we're out of snacks," Tyler announces after searching through the cabinets. "I'm gonna go out and grab some from a convenience store or something. Anyone wanna come with?"

He looks at the two of you sitting on the couch together. You grimace. "No, not really."

"Josh?"

Josh grimaces, too. "I mean, I'm already in my pajamas and everything..."

Tyler sighs. "Alright, fine. But neither of you get any input on what I buy."

"Think of it this way," you say. "You can really get some introspection in while you're looking for the good beef jerky."

"Yeah, yeah." And with that, he's gone, taking some spare cash and a hat to put on with him. You and Josh laugh, watching him walk with his slippers on until he disappears around the corner.

"How long do you think it'll be before he gets back?" Josh asks.

You think for a moment. "Twenty minutes, minimum."

Josh raises an eyebrow. "And the maximum?"

"Probably around thirty. He's definitely gonna get lost at some point, and then he'll take forever in the actual store."

Josh nods, then says, "I say he gets back in fifteen minutes."

You snort. "You certainly have a lot of faith in him if you're betting that."

"Who said I was betting?"

You turn towards him, brows furrowed. "Well, it sounded like a challenge."

Josh turns toward you, too. "Fine, then. Challenge accepted."

"So, what are we betting?"

Josh thinks for a while, then, suddenly, his face turns red. "How about... if I win, I get to kiss you. If you win, you get to kiss me."

Your brain goes into complete panic mode — sirens, flashing lights, the works. This is it. Josh Dun actually wants to kiss you. And, without thinking about the consequences of that, you say, "Well, since we'll be kissing either way, we might as well do it now before he gets back."

Josh seems a little surprised by your response, but starts leaning in nonetheless. You lean in, too, heart hammering in your chest. You start to wonder if this is a really bad idea, but that thought goes away completely when he presses his lips to yours.

Almost on instinct, you wrap your arms around him, trying to pull him closer. Your thoughts are in a jumble, and in the back of your mind there's a tiny voice telling you what a bad idea this is, but you ignore it for now.

Josh wraps his arms around you, too, vaguely aware that this is it. No going back now. He's going to find out what he's been afraid to find out all this time. But he doesn't care. He's kissing you, you're kissing him. That's all that matters right now.

You pull away, breathless, then reality sets in quickly.

"Holy crap, what did we do?" you say, unable to take your eyes off your name on his collarbone.

"Something stupid," Josh replies, in shock, looking at his name on yours.

"What are we gonna do?" you ask. If your brain was in panic mode before, it's in crisis mode now.

Josh shrugs. "I don't know. Wait out the twenty four hours and see if we're soulmates or not?"

You run a hand through your hair. "Okay. Yeah. We'll do that. That works."

Josh realizes something. "What do we do if we are?"

You think for a moment. "Then... we are. And we'll... be together, I guess."

"And if we're not?"

"Then, we just stay friends and go off to find our soulmates. Forget this ever happened."

You're starting to calm down now that you're sort of forming a plan. Then, Josh asks, "Are we gonna tell Tyler?"

"That is the last thing we need to do," you reply. "We shouldn't freak him out if we don't have to. Tomorrow, if we're soulmates, we'll tell him. If we're not, we'll keep it to ourselves, and then in twenty years when we're both married with children, we'll joke about it at Thanksgiving or something."

Josh nods. "Good plan."

"What about Thanksgiving?" You both whip around, seeing Tyler walking back in, carrying a bag of snacks. He has a perfectly pleasant expression on his face until he notices the markings on the both of you that you weren't yet able to hide. He drops the bag on the ground. "What is that?"

Your eyes go wide as you move your shirt to cover it up. "What's... what?"

"On your... That was... That was Josh's name... on you." He looks to Josh, who's also tried to cover it up. "And Y/N's name... is... is on you."

"We were just... messing around with Sharpies?" Josh tries. You resist the urge to sigh in exasperation.

"Seriously?" Tyler asks. "I... I can't believe this."

He's on the edge of hysterical right now, and you start trying to stop him from going over. "Let's just all take a deep breath and calm down-"

"Calm down?!" Tyler shouts. "How can I possibly be calm right now?! My best friend and my sister just kissed! This is insane!"

You continue to talk in a calm, gentle voice, trying to diffuse the situation. Even so, Josh can't get a word in edgewise. "I know how weird this must be for you-"

"Weird?! This is beyond weird!" He runs a hand through his hair, practically pacing. "How long?! Was this the first time, or-?!"

"This was the first time," Josh finally says. "We weren't planning it or anything, it just kinda... I mean, I suggested it-"

"You are not helping!" you shout at him.

"What on Earth made either of you think that that was a good idea?!" Tyler says. "What are you gonna do now?!"

"Wait it out," you reply, bringing your voice back to a normal volume. "And if we are soulmates, then we'll be together. If we're not, then we'll just forget this ever happened."

"I can't believe you would do this..." Tyler trails off. At the very least, he's not shouting anymore.

"Look, Tyler, it was kind of spontaneous, yeah, but I... I like him. And I have for a while. I didn't do this just to do it," you reply.

"And I like her, too," Josh adds. "I wouldn't've kissed her if I didn't. I wouldn't do that to you without a reason."

Tyler thinks for a moment, then sighs. "You know what? I'm just gonna stay in the back of the bus for the next twenty four hours, and you can let me know what happens. And just leave me alone until then."

With that, he's gone, leaving you and Josh with a slew of emotions to deal with.

////

The tour bus has been on its way to the next city since this morning, and you and Josh have been on edge all day long. You keep trying to busy yourself, trying not to think about it. You tried napping, too, but you couldn't fall asleep. Josh has been on his phone on and off all day. Neither of you tried to go talk to Tyler.

Josh watches you pace for a while from his spot on the couch. Finally, he opens his arms. "Come here."

You sigh and sit down next to him, laying your head on his chest as he wraps his arms around you. "I just don't know what to do. I don't even know what to hope for."

"Whatever happens, happens, and we'll cross that bridge when we get to it," Josh replies. He's rubbing circles on your arm with his thumb, and it calms you down a little bit.

"Do you think Tyler is still mad?"

"I don't know. But no matter how mad he is, he'll still love you."

"I know..."

You sit in silence for while, letting the minutes tick by. Three more hours to go, and it feels like an eternity. Eventually, somehow, you both manage to fall asleep.

////

You wake up two hours later, then try to occupy yourself after checking the time. It seems like the closer it gets, the more nervous you become.

Tyler hasn't come out of the back of the bus. He hasn't said a word. You don't know if he came out for food while you were sleeping — last night or during the nap you just took — but he has to have something to eat back there. You hope he's not mad anymore, but you think he might be.

Finally, you check the clock and see you have five minutes to go. You sit down, looking at your name on Josh's collarbone, him looking at his on yours. It's the longest five minutes of your lives.

You wait for your names to disappear, to fade away as if they were never there, but, stubbornly, they stay. Five minutes pass. They're still there. You wait a couple more minutes for good measure, but they're still there.

Finally, you both smile.

"It's you," he says happily. "It's really you."

Overwhelmed by happiness, you reach over and hug him tightly, tears pooling in your eyes. He hugs you back just as tight.

"So you really are soulmates?" Tyler asks softly. He'd been counting down the hours, too, so he knew it was time.

You let go of Josh, allowing Tyler to see that his name is still on your collarbone. You nod. "We are."

You and Josh anxiously await his response, but instead of saying something, Tyler pulls you into a hug. "I'm so happy for you, Y/N/N."

He pulls away, then hugs Josh, too.

"So, you're not mad anymore?" you ask hopefully.

He shakes his head. "No. I've been thinking about it, and... well, you really do love each other. You were made for each other. How could I be mad about that?"

Your brows furrow. "So, if we weren't soulmates, would you still be mad?"

"Maybe just a little bit."

////

"This is the most unoriginal thing that you could've come up with," you say, watching your husband and brother put on their shoes as they get ready to leave the house to go get Josh's hair dyed.

"It's not unoriginal," Tyler argues. "It's a great idea."

"I mean, you could've been a little more creative," Jenna says from behind you. She's helping you get ready for your gender reveal party you're having later today. Only she and Tyler actually know the gender of your baby, and Tyler's going to get Josh's hair dyed pink or blue to reveal it to you later (Josh's hair will be covered up before he can see it).

Tyler pouts. "But you said you liked the idea."

"I do," Jenna says, walking over and kissing him. "But I gotta agree with my sister-in-law on this one."

Tyler sighs. "Of course you do." He grabs his keys, then goes back over to Jenna, kissing her cheek while holding her hand, where his name is written permanently. "Bye. Love you."

"Love you, too."

"Later, loser," you say. He just sticks his tongue out at you.

Josh kisses you before leaving, too. "Bye, babe. I love you."

"I love you, too."

"Bye Y/D/N or Y/S/N," he says to the baby, causing you to laugh.

You and Jenna watch them leave, looking at their knees in exasperation. "I still can't believe they tattooed their names on each other."

"I can't either." Jenna sighs. "It's really funny, though, to watch people get confused when they see they both have two names on their bodies."

You snort. "That's the only reason I didn't object when he did it."

////

You're standing in front of Josh, who has a large hat on his head, as everyone around you is taking a video — save Zach, who's holding a mirror in front of Josh's face. The last time you felt this nervous was when you were waiting to see if you were soulmates five years ago. Now, the nervousness is mixed with excitement.

"Alright, on three," Tyler says. "Ready? One... two... three!"

You grab the hat and pull it off his head, then look at his purple hair in confusion. Josh looks in the mirror, also confused. You both look to Tyler. He's grinning. "So, I know pink and blue don't exactly make purple, but this was the best I could do."

Your eyes go wide. "You mean...?"

Tyler nods. "Yeah."

You turn to Josh, both of you completely ecstatic. "We're having twins!" You're both crying happy tears as everyone else around you does as well. You can't believe it.

"You really think it's unoriginal now, don't you?" Tyler says.

You roll your eyes, but go hug him all the same.

////

A lot of tears, cravings, swollen ankles, and excitement later, Josh posts a picture of you and your twins in a hospital bed on Instagram with the caption, 'Remember when we kissed on the tour bus?'
