Preference: The Greatest Showman Song | Marvel

Only doing some of the characters because there's eleven songs on this soundtrack and two of them are reprises. Also, I love this movie more than anything in the world.

Bruce - This is Me
I'm not a stranger to the dark. "Hide away, " they say, "'cause we don't want your broken parts." I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars. "Run away," they say, "no one will love you as you are."

"I'm a literal monster," he says. In the dead of the night, it's silent, but for him. You shake your head, wrapping your arms around him.

"No, you're not." It's a fact; that's how you said it. You're trying to get it through his head, but it's not sticking.

"Y/N, I hurt people-"

"Plenty of people have hurt people, but-"

"Not like this. Any moment, I could snap. I... I could hurt you... And you know what they say. They're right. I'm dangerous."

But I won't let them break me down to dust. I know that there's a place for us, for we are glorious. When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out. I am brave, I am bruised, I am who I'm meant to be. This is me.

You let go of him, only to place your hands on his shoulders, looking him directly in the eye. The suddenness of it all stuns him into silence.

"Bruce, listen to me," you say. "You cannot live like this forever; afraid of yourself and the other guy. You are not dangerous. The other guy? Yeah. But there is a big difference between you and him. And I am not afraid of either of you. When he decides to show up unannounced, I will be there. I promise."

Look out 'cause here I come, and I'm marching on to the beat I drum. I'm not scared to be seen; I make no apologies. This is me.

Bruce sighs, looks down, then back up you, and he can tell you're ready for an argument. He smiles a little. "You're right."

"Bruce, don't - wait, what?" You stop yourself, having not registered what he said at first. He laughs and pulls you to his chest.

"You're right."

Another round of bullets hits my skin. Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in. We are bursting through the barricades and reaching for the sun. We are warriors - yeah, that's what we've become.

The next day, you went out. And he was a whole different person, only being set back by those that recognized him and moved away in fear.

"You know better than to pay attention to them," you say, looking at back at a woman who had picked up her kid and hurried away. Bruce looks forward. You chuckle. "Besides - you've saved the world twice."

"Well, I didn't do it alone, but yeah, I guess."

And I know that I deserve your love. There's nothing I'm not worthy of. This is me.

Weeks go by, and he begins to believe what you said to him. He begins to believe that he deserves you - to him, the most wonderful person in the world. You're with him for a reason (and vice versa).

"I don't know what I'd do without you," he says. You smile, shrugging.

"You wouldn't've figured it all out as quick as you did. And you wouldn't have a picture of Tony with an afro."

"Yeah, that did not suit him."

Bucky - Come Alive
You stumble through your days, got your head hung low, your skies a shade of grey. Like a zombie in a maze, you're asleep inside, but you can shake awake.

"I don't know who I am. I don't know what I did."

He's been repeating it under his breath for the last twenty minutes, alternating between push-ups and sit-ups on the floor. You can hear him from the couch, but you don't know what to say.

It's like a rain cloud follows him everywhere he goes. Steve's definitely noticed; he's not who he used to be.

"You think you've lost everything, don't you?" you suddenly ask. He stops and looks up at you.

'Cause you're just a dead man walking, thinking that's your only option, but you can flip the switch and brighten up your darkest day. Sun is up and the color's blinding, take the world and redefine it. Leave behind your narrow mind; you'll never be the same.

"Yeah," he replies. "Everything from who I was is gone."

"No, it's not," you argue gently, sitting down on the floor in front of him. "You have Steve. And, even if you had lost everything, that doesn't mean you don't have anything."

He pushes his hair back from his face, trying to process your words. "What are you talking about?"

"You don't have to have everything from back then. You don't have to be the man you were before," you say simply. "You can be somebody new - you could be anything you want to be. Start over. Don't dwell on the past, change the present."

He doesn't miss a beat. "Y/N, that's impossible. I can't be 'who I want to be' with all these missing pieces. It's not happening."

"You're wrong."

Come alive, come alive. Go and light your light, let it burn so bright. Reaching up to the sky and it's open wide - you're electrified.

"Do you even remember me telling you what I know I did for Hydra?" he asks, his expression conveying the fact that he's scared to find out what else he did. That it could be worse than what he already knows.

You shake your head. "You didn't do a thing for Hydra, Buck. You aren't the Winter Soldier, the Winter Soldier isn't you. You are here, and now, and the world you are in is filled with light and color, and the most beautiful and amazing things. And you, Bucky Barnes, are one of them."

When the world becomes a fantasy, and you're more than you could ever be 'cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open. And you know you can't go back again to the world that you were living in 'cause you're dreaming with your eyes wide open. So, come alive!

He looks down, a blush to his cheeks. You laugh. "Look! He's alive!" Grabbing his hands, you pull him to his feet, then let go of his real hand. "Turn that frown upside down!"

"Okay, okay," he says, laughing. He takes his metal hand back and patronizingly pats you on the head, turning to go.

You grab his shoulder and turn him back around. "Get out of that doom and gloom, Barnes! You are alive. Look around you. Look at the amazing things in front you. Once you do, I swear you won't even want to turn back around."

I see it in your eyes; you believe that lie that you need to hide your face. Afraid to step outside, so you lock the door, but don't you stay that way.

He shakes his head, and gently pushes your hand away. "Y/N, I... I don't deserve the 'beautiful and amazing things in the world' - especially not you."

To his surprise, you look angry. "If you ever say that again I will throw you into the sun, Barnes. You deserve the world and more, and I will not stop telling you until you realize that."

No more living in those shadows; you and me we know how that goes. 'Cause once you see it, oh you'll never, never be the same. We'll be the light that's shining - bottle up and keep on trying. You can prove there's more to you. You cannot be afraid.

His expression is pleading. "I could go Winter Soldier at any moment. Hydra made me into a monster, and I can't just leave that behind."

"You can't live that way," you say. "Stop hiding yourself from the rest of the world. You aren't Hydra's weapon - that's not you. You are so much more, Buck. So, so much."

He allows himself a smile.

Clint - Tightrope
Some people long for a life that is simple and planned, tied with a ribbon. Some people won't sail the sea 'cause they're safer on land, to follow what's written, but I'd follow you to the great unknown, off to a world we call our own.

"Whose turn is it to wash the dishes?" Clint asks, eyeing the pile of plates in the sink. It's getting quite high. You snort.

"We lost count a long time ago; we haven't been here." Your jobs are so sporadic you can't even remember what day of the week it is.

Clint sighs. "Can't just one normal thing in our lives work?"

"Our lives aren't normal, Clint-"

"Y/N-"

"And that's not a bad thing."

Hand in my hand and we promised to never let go. We're walking the tightrope. High in the sky, we can see the whole world down below. We're walking the tightrope. Never sure, never know how far we could fall, but it's all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view. Walking the tightrope with you.

"What if one of us leaves and never comes back?" he asks. You start to protest, but he continues. "I'm serious. What if one of us leaves and then something happens?"

You stand and go to start the dishes. "It's a risky lifestyle, but we're doing it together. It's fun. Yeah, I worry about it sometimes, but you have to keep yourself from thinking about it. Gets you nowhere. A Quinjet, though, can take you across the world."

Mountains and valleys, and all that will come in between - desert and ocean. You pulled me in and together we're lost in a dream, always in motion. So I risk it all just to be with you, and I risk it all for this life we choose.

Clint grabs a dirty plate from your hand and puts it back in the sink, making you look at him. "Yeah, it's fun and everything, but-"

"But what?" you ask, picking the plate back up. "We chose this lifestyle, and we chose it for a reason. We get to protect people. Save them. And we get to do it together."

Hand in my hand and we promised to never let go. We're walking the tightrope. High in the sky, we can see the whole world down below. We're walking the tightrope. Never sure, never know how far we could fall, but it's all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view. Walking the tightrope with you.

Clint wraps his arms around you from behind. "Okay, you're right. But it's still scary."

"I'm never scared; I'm with you."

Loki - The Other Side
Right here, right now, I put the offer out. I don't want to chase you down, but I know you see it. You run with me, and I can cut you free, out of the drudgery and walls you keep in. So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy, live a little crazy. You can play it sensible, a king of conventional, or you can risk it all and see.

The setting: A jail cell. There are two people; one is on one side of the bars, the other is on the other. The one inside is Loki Laufeyson, Norse god of mischief. The one outside is you, an Avenger who has a strong belief that there is something more to him.

"You want me to what?" he asks, completely taken aback. It's probably the craziest thing he's ever heard.

You smile. "Just consider. I mean, sure, you can stay in this prison cell, planning escape and/or world domination. Or you could be set free."

Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play? 'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride. It'll take you to the other side. 'Cause you can do like you do, or you can do like me. Stay in the cage, or you'll finally take the key. Suddenly you're free to fly. It'll take you to the other side.

Loki laughs. "You're serious? You actually trust me?"

"No, of course not," you scoff. "Look, I know it's all in your nature, but that doesn't automatically make you one of the bad guys. You're confined to this one label you've put yourself in. Isn't it suffocating? Don't you wanna get out?"

Okay, my friend, you want to cut me in. Well I hate to tell you, but it just won't happen. So thanks, but no; I think I'm good to go. 'Cause I quite enjoy the life you say I'm trapped in.

He shakes his head, a loose smirk on his face. "Sweetheart, I'm humoring you just by responding to this."

"So you wanna save face rather than see what's out there? What's possible?" you ask.

"You know I'd just betray you, don't you?"

"Look, if you really don't want to 'go good', then just stop talking. Walk away - all the way to the back of your tiny, little cell."

Don't you know that I'm okay with this uptown part I get to play? 'Cause I got what I need and I don't want to take the ride. I don't need to see the other side. So go and do like you do. I'm good to do like me. Ain't in a cage, so I don't need to take the key. Can't you see I'm doing fine? I don't need to see the other side.

Loki hesitates. "The longer you're here with me, the more you become like me; don't think I didn't notice."

"And he speaks," you say, matching his smirk from earlier. "I'm not surprised."

He scoffs and turns away from you, striding to the far side of his cell. "I don't need your heroism. I'm perfectly fine with where I am."

Now is this really how you like to spend your days? Whiskey and misery, and parties and plays?

"Really?" you ask. "You're in a cell, Loki. And, call me crazy, but I know that deep down, you're not as bad as you'd like to be. Thor thinks so, too."

If I were mixed up with you, I'd be the talk of the town - disgraced and disowned, another one of the clowns.

"I am who I am. I don't need to change, and I don't want to. Go away."

But you would finally live a little, finally laugh a little. Just let me give you the freedom to dream and it'll wake you up and cure your aching, take your walls and start 'em breaking. Now that's a deal that seems worth taking, but I guess I'll leave that up to you.

You shrug, then start to turn. "Comfort is the enemy of progress, Loki. Being good isn't all that bad. Don't you want to be happy? I promise you, I can see it, no matter how much you try to hide it; you want to try. You can't stand keeping this up anymore. And you don't have to..."

He glances back at you. "What exactly would I have to do?"

Peter - A Million Dreams
I close my eyes and I can see a world that's waiting up for me that I call my own. Through the dark, through the door, through where no one's been before, but it feels like home.

"... I'll need to ask Mr. Stark to make some upgrades, but I'm sure I could do it," Peter says. He's been talking to you about his future plans for Spiderman for the past half hour. He's so excited - and it's adorable.

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy. They can say, they can say I've lost my mind. I don't care, I don't care, so call me crazy. We can live in a world that we design.

However, you need to bring him back to earth. "Are you sure that's a full-proof plan, Pete?"

"Well, no," he admits. "But I have a while to work on it. And I can talk about it with Mr. Stark."

He launches into another idea he had for the Avengers - once he's one of them, of course.

'Cause every night I lie in bed, the brightest colors fill my head. A million dreams are keeping me awake. I think of what the world could be - a vision of the one I see. A million dreams is all it's gonna take. A million dreams for the world we're gonna make.

Peter's eyes light up. "If could turn Loki good at some point, it would be even better. I mean, this is, like, the dream team, Y/N/N. And we could get Ned on computers..."

As he continues, you lay your head on his chest, still listening to every word he's saying.

There's a house we can build. Every room inside is filled with things from far away. Special things I compile, each one there to make you smile on a rainy day.

Then, to your surprise, he says this: "I mean, that's all second to us, you know."

"What?" you ask, sitting up.

Peter shrugs. "I mean, you and me. Where we're gonna be in the future. I... I've thought about it. I was thinking we could get married and buy a nice apartment near the compound..."

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy. They can say, they can say we've lost our minds. I don't care, I don't care if they call us crazy. Runaway to a world that we design.

"May isn't going to like that much," you say simply. Peter nods; May's not a fan of the whole Spiderman thing because he's constantly putting himself in danger and all that.

"I'll be careful. Especially if we've got little ones running around." Peter replies, looking down at you with a smile.

Every night I lie in bed, the brightest colors fill my head. A million dreams are keeping me awake. I think of what the world could be - a vision of the one I see. A million dreams is all it's gonna take. A million dreams for the world we're gonna make.

You look up at him, surprised. "You want kids?"

"Of course I want kids."

"I want two."

Peter chuckles. "Two it is, then."

You return your head to his chest, smiling. "And a dog, whether you want one or not, Parker."

Steve - Rewrite the Stars
You know I want you; it's not a secret I try to hide. I know you want me, so don't keep saying our hands are tied.

"Steve, we need the Accords," you argue. There are too many casualties to deny signing the Accords, but Steve doesn't think so.

He sighs. "Y/N, they're unnecessary. Wanda was doing her best-"

"I know. And I hate that it happened, but if there's a way to prevent it, then-"

Steve shakes his head. "They won't prevent a single thing."

You sigh, running a hand through your hair. Steve breaks and wraps his arms around you, closing his eyes. He can tell you're starting to cry the moment you speak. "It's all falling apart. We're falling apart..."

"No, it's not."

And then it does; you're on opposite sides of a civil war.

You claim it's not in the cards and fate is pulling you miles away, out of reach from me, but you're here in my heart, so who can stop me if I decide that you're my destiny?

"Steve, we can't do this," you say, the pain in your voice evident through the phone. "We're on a break, okay? Right now, until this is over. It's too much-"

"It doesn't have to be that way, Y/N/N," he pleads, clutching the burner phone. Bucky and Sam argue in the car waiting behind him.

You shake your head, though he can't see you. "Everything's gone to crap. We're divided, and trying to hold up this relationship during this mess is just going to make it worse. I hate this, and I don't want to, but-"

"So don't."

What if we rewrite the stars? Say you were made to be mine. Nothing could keep us apart. You'd be the one I was meant to find. It's up to you, and it's up to me. No one can say what we get to be. So why don't we rewrite the stars? Maybe the world could be ours tonight.

Steve takes in a shaky breath. "I'm in love with you. I have been since before this all started. And I don't want to let this tear us apart."

"It already has," you say, not trusting yourself to say anything more than that.

"But it hasn't. This can't last forever. And it won't. I'll call Tony. We can work this out," Steve pleads.

You think it's easy? You think I don't want to run to you? But there are mountains, and there are doors that we can't walk through.

"Steve," you say, a hint of frustration in your voice, "it's too late. Tony barely even speaks anymore. Everyone's mad, the king of Wakanda is dead. SHIELD is dead, we're fighting like cats and dogs... We can't fix this. I want to. I really do. But it's hopeless. This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, but we can't hold on to this forever. It'll end eventually and... I wanna get it over with, Steve. Because I know how bad it's gonna hurt."

No one can rewrite the stars. How can you say you'll be mine? Everything keeps us apart and I'm not the one you were meant to find. It's not up to you, it's not up to me, when everyone tells us what we can be. How can we rewrite the stars, say that the world can be ours tonight?

"Y/N-" Steve starts. You hang up the phone before he can say anything else.

He throws the burner as hard as he can, smashing it to pieces and startling Sam and Bucky in the car. He gets in the front seat and slams the door, the anger fading away. Sam offers to drive and they wordlessly switch seats. Bucky wants to ask him to move the seat up, but now's not the time.

You throw your phone at the wall, starling those in the vicinity of your room. Vision drifts through the wall and can only offer you a look of sympathy before he goes to get Natasha.

T'Challa - Never Enough
I'm trying to hold my breath. Let it stay this way; can't let this moment end. You set off a dream with me. Getting louder now, can you hear it echoing?

"I can't believe you actually want to take me to Wakanda," you say, shaking your head. T'Challa has just asked you to go back to Wakanda with him to meet his family, and, if that goes well, his people.

He smiles. "I am in love with you, and I am also in love with my country; it only makes sense." The moment you met, your breath was taken away. He was speechless. You're so in love it's almost certifiable, and the feeling you get when you're with him is unlike any you've ever felt before. He takes your hands. "Come with me."

"This will stir up anger... but alright. Just don't say I didn't warn you."

Take my hand. Will you share this with me? 'Cause darling without you, all the shine of a thousand spotlights, all the stars we steal from the night sky will never be enough. Towers of gold are still too little - these hands could hold the world but it'll never be enough for me.

"I have never seen anything more beautiful in my life." As soon as you enter Wakanda, it comes tumbling out, and after that you are completely speechless. T'Challa smiles.

His mother, Ramonda, takes a liking to you immediately. Shuri, his younger sister, however, is much more cautious and questioning. Nonetheless, it doesn't take her that long to like you, though she won't admit it.

A few weeks later, and you have everything you could ever ask for and more, courtesy of T'Challa. The clothes, the jewelry, everything - they don't stop flooding in. So, you march into the throne room with a raised brow and crossed arms. "T'Challa."

He stands, a look of confusion on his face. "My Love? Is everything alright?"

"You have to stop," you state simply. He waits for explanation, so you continue. "All of this... stuff you're giving me. It's too much."

All the shine of a thousand spotlights, all the stars we steal from the night sky will never be enough. Towers of gold are still too little - these hands could hold the world but it'll never be enough for me.

"What? The gifts?" he asks, now thoroughly confused as to why you'd be upset over that. He walks towards you, then grabs your hands.

"Yes."

"I am only trying to give you the best."

You sigh. "I don't need the best. 'The best' doesn't matter, T'Challa. It will never be enough."

"What will?" he asks, even more confused but primarily concerned with your happiness.

You shake your head lightly, reaching up to pull his face to yours, resting your forehead against his. "Nothing you could ever buy will be enough to even compare with you. I don't need it, and I don't want it if I have you."

He smiles, pressing his lips to yours.

Thor - The Greatest Show
Ladies and gents, this is the moment you've waited for. Been searching in the dark, your sweat soaking through the floor. And buried in your bones there's an ache that you can't ignore, taking your breath, stealing your mind, and all that was real is left behind.

"THOR!" you shout, scared out of your mind. Your Asgardian boyfriend has just woken you up at three a.m. by being unnecessarily loud and enthusiastic.

He ignores your state of fear and grins widely. "Remember when I promised you to take you to Asgard one day?"

You sit up, pure excitement flooding through your veins; ever since he promised you two months ago you've been waiting, the anticipation building up. He's always described it as the most beautiful place in all the realms (besides "wherever it is that you are"), and all the stories he's told you have made it seem like Disneyland but five times better.

Don't fight it, it's coming for you, running at you. It's only this moment, don't care what comes after. Your fever dream, can't you see it getting closer? Just surrender 'cause you feel the feeling taking over.

"Are we going right now?" you ask, your face lit up like a child's on Christmas morning.

Thor nods, grabbing your hand and pulling you outside, pajamas and all. He wraps his arm around your waist and swings his hammer as your excitement builds, so much so that you're not entirely sure what happened in between your bedroom and traveling up to the Bifrost.

It's fire, it's freedom, it's flooding open, it's a preacher in the pulpit and you'll find devotion. There's something breaking at the brick of every wall; it's holding all that you know, so tell me do you wanna go?

It's the most beautiful thing you've ever seen; you can't even speak.

"Hello, Heimdall," Thor says to the deity. Heimdall smiles, then looks at you.

"This must be Y/N," he says; Thor talks about you constantly. Thor nods and smiles at you, then both beings wait for you to say something, your eyes wide and trying to take in every inch of your surroundings.

Thor becomes concerned. "Y/N?" You look up at him, still in complete shock and awe.

"Rainbow."

Where it's covered in all the colored lights, where the runaways are running the night. Impossible comes true, it's taking over you. We light it up, we won't come down, and the sun can't stop us now. Watching it come true, it's taking over you.

"Yes, it is a rainbow." Thor laughs. Heimdall looks on, amused.

You look at him, detaching yourself from Thor and walking over to him, holding out a hesitant hand. "Impossible." It's whispered, but heard clearly through the silence.

Heimdall raises an eyebrow, then lowers your hand for you. "No, not really."

It's everything you ever want, it's everything you ever need, and it's here right in front of you. This is where you wanna be.

You calmed down enough to actually get to Asgard, then it started all over again, this time with an amused Loki.

Eventually, you made it to the throne where you met Frigga, who was also amused. "I take it you're a bit overwhelmed?"

"Yes, uh, Your Highness..."

After a day or two, you got over the shock, but the awe didn't lessen at all. And you never wanted to leave.

Tony - From Now On
I saw the sun begin to dim, and felt that winter wind blow cold. A man learns who is there for him when the glitter fades and the walls won't hold.

"ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS MONEY AND FAME AND YOUR STUPID SUITS!" you yell, not thinking about what you're saying in the slightest. Tony isn't either.

"I CARE ABOUT YOU, AND THOSE STUPID SUITS HAVE SAVED THE WORLD - TWICE!" You thought you might actually have been wrong until he said "and".

"YOU DID THAT SINGLE-HANDEDLY, DID YOU?!"

"I NEVER SAID-"

"IT WAS IMPLIED!"

'Cause from that rubble, what remains can only be what's true. If all was lost, there's more I gained 'cause it led me back to you.

It's all fallen apart - the money, the fame, the suits. And every time he ran off to bask in the glory, leaving you behind, you stayed. After every fight, you stayed. And you're still here.

"I am so sorry," he says, tears in eyes. He knows what he's been, and he knows what he's done, and, most importantly, he finally knows that he doesn't deserve everything you've done for him.

"I know you are," you reply. "You always are."

"I mean it this time."

"You've said that before."

"But I have hit rock bottom. And I know that it's absolutely ridiculous that it took this much to make me realize, and that's only a testament to the kind of man I am, but I swear, Y/N. I promise you."

From now on these eyes will not be blinded by the lights. From now on what's waited till tomorrow starts tonight. Let this promise in me start like an anthem in my heart. From now on.

"Don't make promises you can't keep," you say simply, turning to go. He grabs your hand and pulls you back, wrapping his arms around you.

"From now on," he vows, "I swear to you I will give you everything you deserve. I will treat you like you are the most important thing in my life because you are. And I am so sorry I let this go on for this long."

"From now on?"

"From now on."
