Word Count: 2083

James -
It finally happened.

Severus had had enough.

James and Sirius were teasing him when he finally lashed out, using Expelliarmus to disarm both boys.

You saw it from across the courtyard.

As you made your way over to them, Severus cast a spell that turned them both upside down and left them dangling in the air. He shouted something.

By this point, Remus and Peter were on their feet. Peter said nothing, but Remus was calmly telling him to let them down.

"Fine," he said (you were within earshot by then).

He let Sirius drop.

Sirius hit the ground hard - thankfully not on his head - but he was okay. Remus helped him up as you arrived.

"Severus, stop!" you shouted. "Put him down!"

"And why should I?" he asked angrily. "He does the same thing to me almost every day!"

"I know he does," you replied sympathetically. "I know he does, and he shouldn't. He's a bully, and you don't deserve the things he and Sirius do to you. But this isn't the answer. You have to be the bigger person - the better person."

"I don't have to do anything," he said.

"Severus, I'm sorry," James said - practically pleaded. Sirius repeated the same sentiment from his position on the ground.

"You only say that so I'll let you down," Severus replied. "You have no idea what I could do to you - the spells that I know!"

"You don't have to use them," you replied. "James is a bully, and he is in the wrong, but he doesn't deserve that. He's young and he's stupid, but he can change. You don't have to hurt him."

"No, I don't have to," Severus said, "but I want to. Have a taste of your own medicine, Potter!"

"Mister Snape!" Professor Kettleburn shouted. He was making his way over. "Put Mister Potter down, now!"

Severus hesitated, then let James drop. Like Sirius, he hit the ground hard, but he was okay. You ran over to him as Kettleburn took Severus away. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," he replied, taking your hand. You pulled him up. "I almost wasn't, but then you showed up." He smiled.

"Yeah, well, I hope you learned your lesson," you replied. "I meant what I said."

"I know. And I have."

You looked over at Sirius, who had been deemed alright by Remus, and raised an eyebrow. "And you, Black?"

He nodded.

Suddenly, a new voice joined the conversation - Dumbledore. "Mister Potter, Mister Black - I need to see you in my office."

"Yes, Professor," James said.

"Yes, Professor," Sirius echoed.

Dumbledore turned to you, Remus, and Peter. "Wonderful job diffusing the situation Mister Lupin and Miss Y/L/N. Ten/Twenty [if you're Gryffindor] points to Gryffindor, and ten points to Y/H [if you're not Gryffindor]."

James, as he followed Dumbledore, looked back at you and smiled.

Newt -
It wasn't uncommon to see Newt Scamander sitting by himself or walking in the hallways alone (sometimes he had a creature with him, but that only made him more of a target).

When Newt was alone, other students found it was the perfect opportunity to pick on him.

Eventually, though, he met you - a person who genuinely wanted to be his friend, instead of someone looking for help on Care of Magical Creatures homework that would never speak to him again afterwards.

You walked with him to keep the other students away - most of the time.

There were some times that you just couldn't be with him; you got busy, and you couldn't help it. Newt didn't fault you for this, but it did present an opportunity for the other students.

There was one such time when he was walking alone, a Bowtruckle perched on his shoulder.

"Hey, Salamander!" someone shouted. Newt stopped, but then decided to try to ignore the boy and kept walking. "Salamander!" the boy repeated. "I'm talking to you!"

Newt turned, fear and dread welling up inside him. He wouldn't show it, though. "Yes?"

"Don't 'yes' me, freak," the boy said. He had two other kids with him, and they laughed at Newt. "What's with the stick on your shoulder? Is that your only friend?"

"That stick," Newt replied, becoming angry, "is a Bowtruckle. And his name is Pickett."

The boy and his friends laughed. "Pickett? That's the dumbest name I've ever heard!" Newt got even angrier, so the boy said, "Oh, I'm sorry; have we offended you and your only friend? I'm not surprised a stick named Pickett is the only thing that can stand you."

"Wait, Janus," the boy's friend said, "you're forgetting about his girlfriend."

They all laughed. The boy - Janus - grinned. "Oh, yeah, I forgot about her. She must be desperate to hang around you all the time."

"Don't talk about her like that!" Newt shouted, his face now blood red.

This caught your attention; you were walking through the halls, searching for Newt. You followed the shout and arrived at the scene as Janus and his friends were teasing Newt again.

"Hey!" you yelled. "Leave him alone!"

"Oh, look, freak, your knight in shining armor's arrived," Janus said.

"What's the matter with you?!" you shout at him. "You think picking on other people makes you cool or something?! Grow up! Newt's never done anything to you, and he doesn't deserve all the lousy insults you throw at him! Get a life, and get out of here!"

Janus looked affronted. "Who do you think you are?! You can't talk to me like that!"

"Well, I just did, didn't I?!" you reply. "Beat it, now, and if I catch you even breathing in Newt's direction again, it won't be pretty."

Janus and his friends huffed and left. Newt looked at you, blushing. "Th-Thanks, Y/N."

"You don't have to thank me," you replied. "That gave me an excuse to yell at that idiot."

Newt sighed. "Yeah, he really is an idiot."

You chuckled. "Come on, Scamander; let's go to the Black Lake."

Remus -
Remus had a multitude of scars from all the full moons he's been through, but no one ever really saw them - save the few on his face - due to the full-coverage nature of the standard Hogwarts robes.

However, one fellow Gryffindor saw the ones on his arms. Remus, due to the heat of the fire and you helping him build confidence in himself, was wearing short sleeves.

No one made mention of them. Not then.

Later, when Remus was walking to the library to meet you for a study session, the Gryffindor who saw his scars spotted him, saw he was alone, and decided to say something he was going to regret in a few minutes. "Hey, you!" he said.

Remus looked around, then spotted the boy walking towards him. "Who, me?"

"Yes, you," the boy replied, annoyed. "What happened to you? What's with your arms? And your face?"

Remus was confused. "What?"

"You've got a bunch of weird scars. What happened to you?" Remus didn't know what to say. He just started stuttering. The boy said, "What, are you embarrassed or something? I mean, I would be, too. They look awful."

Little did either of them know, you were just around the corner; Remus was later than he said he'd be (this was due in part to Sirius and James before he left the common room), and you'd gone looking for him.

You found him.

"Hey," you said, having overheard the boy's last comments and seen the look on Remus's face. "Who are you and why are you insulting my boyfriend?"

The boy cocked a brow. "He has a girlfriend?"

You crossed your arms, becoming more angry by the second. "Yes, he does. And she's wondering who you think you are talking about him like that."

"You must've seen how ugly all his scars are-"

At that, you were positively fuming. "You better walk away right now before I get myself expelled."

"What-?"

"Get out of here!"

The boy left, and Remus was finally over his shock. He gently placed a hand on your shoulder, as he could practically see the steam coming out of your ears. "Love, it's alright-"

"If I ever see him again, I'll hex him into oblivion," you said, watching the boy scurry down the hallway. "Stupid little first year that doesn't know how to keep his unwanted opinions to himself-"

"How do you know he's a first year?" Remus asked; he didn't even know the boy's name.

"Are you kidding?" you replied. "Stupid little baby-faced-"

Remus sighed. "Darling, you're about to stoop to his level talking like that. Just take a deep breath, okay? It's okay."

You turned to look at Remus, then. "But did he have to talk about that? I mean, out of everything he could've said, he said that."

"I know," Remus said, "but it doesn't bother me. Honestly, I was just shocked by how blatant he was. I know better than to listen to stuff like that, thanks to you and James and Sirius." He kissed you. "Now, let's go study for that Herbology test, huh?"

You groaned. "How fun."

He laughed as you walked hand in hand to the library.

Sirius -
There were always whispers. He didn't really hear them over his and his friends' laughter. Though, sometimes, they got through.

Usually, it was girls talking about him in good ways - how attractive he was. And mysterious, due to the fact that he never talked about his family or his home life at all.

Then, he started dating you. There were still whispers from other girls. Some still about him, others about you.

As time passed, the whispers about him became less flattering.

Still, you never paid much attention. You hardly knew anyone was talking at all.

Then, a few girls didn't pay attention to who was around them as they were talking.

"He's going to cheat on her," one girl said.

"Going to?" another replied. "I'd bet 10,000 Galleons he already has."

You were waiting for Sirius in the courtyard, leaning against the wall, and you couldn't help but overhear them. You weren't paying too much attention to their conversation until they name-dropped someone.

"He's Sirius Black," a third girl replied. "I wouldn't doubt it."

You perked up, then decided to listen to what they had to say, which only made you angrier.

"They've been dating for a while, haven't they?" the first girl said. "It'll probably end soon. Either when he finally gets tired of her, or she finds out about him cheating on her."

"They've been dating for months," the third girl replied.

Over a year, actually, you thought.

"How many girls do you think he's cheated on her with?" the second girl asked.

Finally, you couldn't take it anymore. "I'd say none." They turned and saw you, the blood draining from their faces when they realized who you were. You were halfway to fuming. "I also find it funny how you talk about him as if you know anything about him - or me or our relationship. We've been together over a year, and I'd bet 10,000 Galleons that he hasn't cheated on me once."

The third girl spoke up. "We were just-"

"Discussing something you know nothing about? Yeah, I know; I heard. If you must know, he's the sweetest boy I've ever met, and he has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. He'd never do something like that to me - or anyone, for that matter. So, next time you want to 'speculate' about something, maybe check your facts first - or at least pay attention to who's standing around you."

As the girls hurriedly left, you heard someone applauding behind you.

You turned, and there stood Sirius. "Well, aren't you just my knight in shining armor."

You shrugged. "Well, I couldn't just sit there and let them say those awful things about you."

"You say awful things about me all the time," he teased, wrapping his arms around you.

You raised a brow. "Nothing as bad as that... Dog Breath."

He sighed and kissed your forehead. "There it is."
