Preference: A Very Bad Idea | Marvel
So I went to Universal and I got to hold Cap's shield and wow. Also, Hawkeye's is based on a personal experience.
Summary: He lets you try to use his weapon of choice. (I tried to word it to make sense okay).
QOTP: Which character's weapon would you rather wield?
Word Count: 2258
Bruce -
"Okay, we need to lay down some ground rules," he says, opening the door to his lab. You follow him inside, excited for the day ahead. With nothing else to do, Bruce agreed to let you help him. But, of course, there's rules. "Do not touch or smell anything unless I tell you to, and don't eat anything either."
"Well, obviously."
"Keep your lab coat on and buttoned, keep your goggles on, and pay extra attention when there's fire present. And tell me immediately if anything goes wrong."
You chuckle. "Okay, Bruce. Honestly, most of lab safety is common sense, anyway."
"I'm just trying to prevent an incident," he mumbles.
You get to work, only really dealing with water and getting him equipment at first. Then, he starts to let you handle chemicals, though not incredibly dangerous ones.
"Okay," he says. "This reaction is gonna be tricky, so I'm gonna pour it." There's a beaker with clear liquid in it in front of him, though you can't remember what he said it was called. He pours a foggy liquid from a graduated cylinder into it, then addresses you without looking away, pointing to two unlabeled test tubes on a rack. "Hand me the aluminum antimonide."
"Which one is it?" you ask.
"I dyed it red." Both test tubes have red liquid in them. Maybe they're both aluminum antimonide? He holds his hand out. "Hurry!"
This was a very bad idea.
You grab the one on the right and he pours it the beaker, which starts fizzing. He looks confused and kind of alarmed, and looks back up at you and the test tube rack. "Why is there still aluminum antimonide there?"
You look helpless. "There were two test tubes."
"One of them was aluminum antimonide, and it's the one sitting right there!"
"They were both red and you were rushing me!"
Bruce looks back the beaker, which is still fizzing. "I don't what I just did, but it doesn't look good." He tries to remember what the other test tube could've been, then he sighs. "It's fine. I know what it was. This mixture is harmless."
As he cleans it up to try the reaction again, you look at the counter and notice a small, coin-sized hole in it. "What happened here?"
Bruce looks over at it. "That wasn't there before..."
You laugh nervously. "That's strange, isn't it...?"
He sighs deeply.
Clint -
"This is awesome!" you say, grinning. Clint is helping you shoot his bow at the target in the training room. You shoot another arrow, Clint's hand over your own - he's basically controlling the bow and you're just... there. The arrow flies straight to the bullseye, directly in the middle. You laugh. "We just keep getting it right in the center! It's fun not to suck at something."
Clint knocks another arrow. "You wanna try by yourself?"
Your eyes widen. "Really?"
He chuckles and hands you the bow. "Yeah."
You hold the string in three fingers and hold the bow itself in your other hand. Then, you pull the string back until your hand reaches your ear and the tip of your nose is next to the taught string. You close one eye and aim for the bullseye, then let go.
Yeah, that was a very bad idea.
There's a loud noise like a hammer on wood, and you notice there's no arrow in the target.
It's in the wall.
Clint sucks in a breath. "Stark's not gonna be too happy about that..."
Peter -
"Can I try the web shooters?" you ask. Peter looks up from his chemistry text book. You're both studying in his room, you on his bed and him at his desk.
Truthfully, you're not studying at all. You've been thinking about how cool his web shooters are, and you really wanna try them out. He cocks an eyebrow. "You wanna try the web shooters?"
"Yeah, that's what I said," you reply, shoving your own textbook away from you (you weren't reading it anyway). "I wanna shoot a web. Just once."
"Y/N, they're not toys."
"I know! I just wanna shoot one web. Please?"
He wants to say no, and he tries to for a while, but your puppy dog eyes break him. "Fine. Just one web."
He takes the web shooters he first made, the ones he uses now being connected to his suit. Then, he takes your hand and helps you put it on around your wrist. You grin. "These are so cool!" He smiles a little and you stand, looking around the room. "Where do I aim?"
He moves behind you and wraps his arms around you, one hand holding yours and directing the web shooter. The other rests on your shoulder. He turns you until you're facing his closed door. "Right... here."
He shows you how to shoot the webs, pressing your two middle fingers down in order to press the button. A web shoots out and hits the door, sticking to it. You grin widely. "Awesome."
He steps back. "Alright, shoot your web."
You take a second to decide where you want it to land, then shoot it an inch or so under the one from before. You grin again, then look back at him. "Can I shoot one more?"
He chuckles at little and sighs. "Sure."
That was a very bad idea on his part.
You shoot another one higher up on the door, and you're so excited, Peter just lets you keep shooting them. It's adorable. After the door is littered with webs, you step back a little bit. "One more and then I'm done."
Your aim isn't the best this time, and hit part of the door, and part of the door post. So, you just webbed the door shut. With wide eyes you look back at Peter. He nearly laughs at the look on your face. "It's gonna be pretty hard to cut that, Y/N."
"So... we're stuck in here?"
"Well, there's a fire escape, but the webs will dissolve in two hours. Then again, I can try to cut it with scissors." He walks over to the door and looks at the web more closely. "It's pretty stuck on there, though... It'll be hard to find a place to cut..."
You try to take the web shooter off, not trusting yourself with it anymore, but you accidentally shoot it and hit a lamp. Peter looks back at you, and you look like a deer in headlights. "Sorry...?"
Sam -
It took a lot of pleading, puppy dog eyes, and a large, homemade breakfast, but you finally got Sam to let you try on his Falcon wings.
"These are awesome - and very heavy - but still awesome!" Sam laughs at your excitement as you walk around, nearly falling backwards once for the weight of them. Then, you stop, looking over at him. "Can I fly?"
His eyes widen. "Oh, no. That's a very bad idea."
"Please. I won't go up that high."
It takes him a while, but he gives in. "Fine. But not too high." He shows you how to turn the thing on, then reminds you to hold onto the handles on the inside of the wings in order to control where you go.
Then, you go up, too high for Sam's liking. He starts shouting at you to come down, but you're really bad at controlling it, so you nearly crash into the side of the base. Eventually though, you start to get the hang of it. "This is awesome! If we make more we could play Quidditch."
"Absolutely not."
You start to lose control when you fly higher, again flying closer to the base. This time, you hit something. You and the wings are completely fine, but you manage to kick a window during your panicked flailing. As soon as you land, you take the wings off. Sam sighs. "You are never wearing these again."
"That seems like a good idea."
Steve -
"Come sit with me," you say, mouth full of popcorn. You're watching Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and Steve's just returned home from a mission. He's still in uniform, and he's still holding his shield.
"In a minute," he replies, chuckling. You pause the movie and turn to look at him just as he's setting down his shield.
"Can I hold it?" you ask quietly. For a second he's confused, then he realizes you're talking about his shield.
He smiles and picks it back up. "Sure."
You jump excitedly and slip your arm through the straps on the back of the shield. He lets go of it and steps back, quietly laughing at you. You nearly drop it. "It's so heavy."
"Kinda, yeah."
You pose like him, then push the shield forward as if you're hitting someone. "I'm Captain America!
That's the moment he realizes that this was a very bad idea.
You start to move around the room, taking down all the bad guys. Steve watches, worried. "Please don't put a hole in the wall."
You run down the hall to where he can't see you, calling. "I WON'T!"
A few seconds later, he hears a crash. When there's no sound immediately after that, he becomes concerned. "Y/N?!"
"I'm okay!" you shout. There's a pause. "I broke something!"
T'Challa -
One day, you get curious. His suit is basically indestructible and it's ridiculously cool. A strong desire to wear it, just once, is not only healthy, but expected.
"Can I please try on the suit?" It's the third time you've asked him today.
His answer is the same. "No."
Finally, you've had enough. "Fine." You go find Shuri, whose working on upgrades for basically the entire country. You walk in and ask, "Shuri, can I try out your vibranium gauntlets?"
She doesn't even look up. "Sure. They're with the other weapons."
T'Challa finds you trying to shoot them outside, but you got no instructions from Shuri, so you're confused. He wants to stop you, but he's afraid to get too close. "Y/N, put those away! Are you insane?!"
You turn towards him and he quickly moves out of the way; you're pointing the gauntlets right at him. However, you don't notice. "Calm down. Shuri said it was okay."
"That just has me even more worried."
You scoff and turn away, facing a group of trees and trying to shoot again. "It'll be fine."
He sighs. "Just... don't hurt someone."
Before you respond, you manage to shoot one, which hits a tree and makes a gaping hole right through its trunk. T'Challa looks at you, wide-eyed and incredulous. You shrug. "You said not to hurt someone."
Thor -
Needless to say, you're not the only one who wants to holds Mjolnir. You are, however, one of the only people he knows who hasn't tried. Mainly because you're not sure if you wanna find out if you can pick it up or not. Finally, one day, you decide that it's time.
"Thor?" you ask. You're sitting on the couch and he's in the kitchen, searching for food.
He stops and looks at you. "Yes, Lady Y/N?"
"Can I try to hold Mjolnir?"
He walks over to you and sighs. "I'd say yes if you could, but I don't think you can."
You frown. "Let me try."
He gives in and summons it to his hand, then sets it on the table. As you stand and grab the handle, he says, "Be my gue- oh, my gods."
You lift it with minimal effort. "LOOK AT ME!" you say in amazement, swinging it around.
Thor holds his hands out. "Be careful with it."
You barely pay attention to what he said. "I will." However, you continue to swing the hammer.
Thor realizes this was a very bad idea. "Y/N-"
You swing the hammer a little too hard and smash it through a window. Thor looks at you, eyes wide. You look back at him sheepishly.
Tony -
You're with Tony while he's repairing a suit. It's loud because of his tools, but as soon as he takes a break, you're going to ask him to make your dreams come true.
"Tony?"
"Yes, sweetheart?
"Can I wear the suit?"
He stops, trying to figure out if you're serious not. When he realizes you are, he laughs. "Absolutely not."
"Please," you plead. "I'll even settle for one you don't use anymore! They're just so cool, and-"
"Okay, fine," he relents, "but don't do anything in it - no flying, no shooting."
You grin. "Okay."
"This is a very bad idea, Mr. Stark," Friday butts in as Tony gets a suit ready for you.
He sighs. "I know."
Once you're inside, you get all excited ("THIS IS SO COOL!") and then you begin to impersonate Tony. "I am Iron Man! Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, and superhero!" He laughs, then becomes worried when he hears you say, "Oo, what does this do?"
The suit starts flying, causing you both to freak out. Tony holds his hands up as if it'll do anything. "COME DOWN!"
"I CAN'T!" You try to find a way to come down, then shoot up faster, crashing through the ceiling. "I'M OKAY!"
