It was a cold, rainy night when she sat cross-legged with her book placed on her lap. Her eyes read between the lines of her latest English lesson. She needed to pass this test, after all.
Her eyes began to droop. The desire for rest was becoming stronger, her arms are slowly losing its strength to hold the book within her level.
Just when she was about to close her eyes and go to sleep, a sound came off from her outside.
She jumped, quickly glancing at the only window in her room. She figured it was thunder, but it was proved otherwise when the glass produced a sound.
Someone was knocking at her window.
Hastily, she walked towards the wall. Someone knocking on the window could only mean one thing, or one person; Spider-Man.
It was weird for Peter to just appear all of a sudden. Usually, he would text or call her before swinging over at her place, but this time, obviously it was different.
She couldn't see well, she could only see his shadow because of the dark night and it was raining. That only sent her mind to a worried state. It was raining. He could be soaking wet!
"Peter?" She whispered, pulling the window upward. She was careful not to make any sounds as it was already midnight. The said boy stepped inside, not saying anything. She reached for the light. "Peter? Are you-"
The rest of the sentence was caught in her throat when she saw his suit all split up and torn. It sent her to a frenzy. Warning signs floated above her head when she saw Peter hunching on the floor with his fists clenched.
"Peter, Peter!" She still kept her voice down, but the tone of her voice was wavy and laced with worry. Usually, she was very chill and relaxed, but seeing her boyfriend bloodied and edging closer to death had her heartbeat escalated. She was sure she was getting a heart attack from this.
She heard him say her name and that brought her back from her panic attack.
"Peter, what happened?" She checked his body for injuries that she could patch up. His uniform was bleeding out on her bedroom carpet, but she did not care. He is dying, for gosh's sake.
He just let out a groan, but she took it. It's at least a confirmation that he is still alive. She instantly went to the closet to retrieve her makeshift first-aid kit. She ran back to him and opened the box that contains bandages, gauzes, various kinds of medication liquids, and cotton balls.
She kept it hidden in there, just in case Peter was injured.
Today seemed like the case to use it now.
"Okay, okay, okay," She took a deep breath and rolled the boy around until he laid on his back. She pressed the spider icon and watched the suit loosen. She quickly, yet gently pulled the material off until it was pooled around his waist.
She winced at the wound located at Peter's ribs. Looking at it just made her heart break. The bright red of his blood, complimenting the white of her rug. The purple, the color of his bruise that was slightly forming on his sides. Now, she wasn't sure if she could do this.
I can't do this
I can't do this
I can't do this
She was panicking. Her hands were shaking as she held the cotton ball.
With little strength he has left, Peter held her hands. "H-hey," he grunted. "It's okay." He gave her a small smile he could muster.
She couldn't seem to stop the tears forming around her eyes. She shook her head, as if telling him that it is not okay. "You know I'm not qualified to do this."
"Ju-just apply pressure to my wound to help stop the bleeding..." Peter coughed. "Don't worry."
"Of course I'm going to worry!" You whispered harshly. "You just came here unannounced, without a text or a call, looking all bloody, n-now I gotta fix you and it's just-"
She placed her head on her hands, her form still shaking with panic.
He said her name more gently and assuring. "I know you could do this." He smiled.
It did little to ease her stress, but she smiled anyway and began to dab the wound with the medication. She could see his face contorting in pain. She wanted it to end so soon.
Finally, she cleaned the wound and then began to place a gauze over it, placing tape as much as she could, just so it would stay in place.
She cleaned the rest of the small cuts and bruises that spread across his upper body, including the torso, arms, and the face.
As she cleaned his face, she locked eyes with Peter's brown ones, causing her to avert her look from him to the wounds.
He thought she was cute, tending to his wounds, looking super focused cleaning the cuts. One of the things he appreciate about her.
After it was done, the next thing she cleaned up was her room. Peter was limping to her bed, his hand over his sides.
"Hey, no." She pointed at him. He froze. "You're gonna get blood on my sheets."
He almost rolled his eyes as he watched her get some clothes. She managed to get some clothes from Peter because he always seemed to have forgotten them everytime he came here.
She held the blood-stained rug in her fingers. The other hand carried the used cotton balls placed in a plastic. "I'll be right back. I'm going to throw these out. Make sure you're changed when I come back."
He nodded in reply. She exited the room and Peter began to strip the rest of his costume, revealing his boxers underneath. He quickly slipped on his green jumper. It smelled wonderful. It smelled her.
Peter smirked. Someone must be wearing it lately. He then carefully climbed into her bed and nestled into the pillows surrounding him. He saw a book laying beside him. Delicately, he set it on the bedside table.
The rain was still pouring outside.
He adjusted his position because of the wound. He just wanted to be comfortable that he did not notice the door closing and the lights turning off.
He opened his eyes and saw her shadow walking towards him. He felt the bed dip. He could not see her expression but he prayed to God it wasn't disappointment.
She was laying across him, facing him. They may be in the same bed, but they seem to be meters apart.
"Are you okay?" He heard her whisper. It wasn't cold, nor was it warm neither.
"Uh... yeah. I'm fine now."
She nodded. She still wasn't moving...
He said her name in a hushed tone. "I'm sorry," he said. "I'm really sorry for showing up like this. I-"
"Peter,"
It immediately shut him up.
She avoided his gaze. "You don't have to apologize. I'm just worried. Seeing you like that... God, Peter." She closed her eyes. "I don't want to experience that again. So, please. Please be safe, from now on."
He was surprised to see tears falling down on the sides of her face towards the pillow.
"Y/N..." He inched closer as he held her face softly.
She can't help it. It needed to be said. "You know I love you, right?"
Peter's eyes widened. "You do?"
"I do. So much, Peter. That's why it pained me to see you in that state. It was so terrifying, Pete." She cried harder. "I thought you were gonna die and I'm too late, I didn't do anything- I-"
Sobs wracked her whole body. Peter didn't hesitate to embrace her form close to his own body. He began to cry as well, with his own tears forming at the corner of his eyes.
The both of them just cried, similar to how the rain poured all over the whole town. Their sobs matched the pitter-patter sounds the roof creates.
"I love you, too, Y/N. So much. I wouldn't let anything happen to you."
She just nodded. She was afraid that if she spoke, it would be all incoherent and shaky.
She leaned upwards to take a better look at Peter's face. Sure enough, he was looking back at her. She then felt his lips brush against hers.
They shared a kiss, a passionate kiss. One that holds a silent promise that they will keep each other safe and sound.
They pulled apart not long after and she nestled her head in his chest. She yawned, a big yawn. It almost slipped out of her mind that it was past midnight, and she was studying for her English quiz.
But with Peter's steady breathing and his arms around her, she couldn't care less about the test.
"I love you."
