I Love Lucy

It was autumn. Leaves were changing their hue and floated to the ground. They crinkled underneath your feet as you walked along the sidewalk. It was 1964. America was entering into the Vietnam War. They chose their victims wisely that were eighteen years or older.

Dean Winchester was walking home along the street. He was just leaving the auto repair shop that was just down the street from home. He whistled to the tune of Can't Buy Me Love by The Beatles. He was a big fan of them since they came to the states in February.

He swung the door open and yelled, "Honey, I'm home," to his family. His mother and father sat at the kitchen table whispering something to each other. His little brother Sam walked down the stairs. "Hey, Dean. How was work?"

Dean shrugged, "Brutal. What else is new. How was school today?"

Sam mimicked, "Brutal."

"If bullies are bothering you, I'll take care of them," Dean said as he cracked his knuckles.

Sam rolled his eyes, "I can take car of my own bullies. Unless you want to pound the teachers, be my guest. They were twitchin' all day today."

Their mother called aloud, "Dean....we need to talk to you."

Dean and Sam both walked into the room. Mary shook her head, "Sammy, book it and go upstairs."

Sam grumbled something as he left the room. He sat on the stairs, listening to their conversation. Dean sat down across the table from his parents. They exchanged looks with each other before John slid an envelope towards Dean. Dean laughed, "What's this?"

John fiddled with his thumbs, "Open it, son."

Dean looked at them confused. He pulled out his switchblade and cut across the top of the envelope. He pulled out a letter and skimmed through the printed words. He looked up worriedly, "I'm being enlisted into the army?"

Mary buried her face in her hands and John comforted her by rubbing circles into her back. Dean grabbed the letter and folded it into his pocket along with his switchblade and stormed out of the room. John yelled, "Dean! Please come back!"

But Dean was out the door. He got into his '64 blood red Ford Mustang. His nails pressed into the leather on the steering wheel. He saw Sam running out the door towards him, but Dean pulled out of the driveway and drove down the street with teeth gritting. His foot slowly pressed against the gas pedal to increase the speed.

He was angry. He never wanted this life. He thought of the ways he could possibly not be brought to war. Drugs? No Dean was finally clean. Pretend to be Jehovah's Witness? Couldn't work when Dean doesn't know the beliefs and can't even stand them. He sighed. There was no way out of this. Nothing he could do. He drove to his girlfriend's house. Her name was Lucy. A beautiful and sweet blonde haired girl.

Dean needed to see her. He thought maybe, just maybe, she'd make him feel better. He wasn't willing to tell her the news yet. He was just upset and frankly, pissed. But who could truly blame him?

He parked the car in front of her light yellow townhouse. He took a deep breath and played a smile on his face. He did it for her. He loved her since freshman year when they started dating. He intended to marry her someday. He knew the news would just break her heart because it broke him just as much. He wasn't willing to die for his country, he doesn't even like the country in the first place.

He got out of the car and walked up to the house. He hesitated before knocking. He tried not to make it seem as if his smile was too forced. Lucy's father answered the door with his short appearance and bearded face speaking in a high tone, "Dean, now isn't a good time..."

"My apologies, Mr. Novak. I simply wanted to see Lucy," Dean stated.

Mr. Novak put his hand on Dean's shoulder and squeezed it a little. He sighed, "She's really upset and is crying up in her room. Maybe you should go talk to her..."

Dean could hear her sobs from downstairs. He pushed past Mr. Novak and ran up the stairs, taking on two at a time. He opened the door to the frail girl with her head buried into her pillow. Dean sat next to Lucy on her bed and held her gently into a hug. He whispered, "Shhh, I'm here now. It's okay, my lovely Lucy."

Lucy spoke between sobs, "It's-it's my brother...Cas has been enlisted into the army..."

Dean swallowed the lump in his throat. He pressed his lips to her forehead and closed his eyes as tears began to fall. She felt the tears hit her forehead. She stared up at him with red glassy eyes. She asked, "Why are you crying?"

He shook his head to each syllable, "Oh, Lucy, Lucy, Lucy..."

She sniffled and sat up on her knees, "What's wrong, my love?"

He looked away from her, not being able to bare those blue eyes of hers. He pulled out the letter from his pocket and handed it to her. She took one look at it and threw it on the ground. She cried harder into her palms. Dean pulled her onto his lap. She cried against his chest as he rocked her back and forth, running his fingers through her golden curls. He pressed his lips to the top of her head again. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he clamped his eyes shut.

He whispered, "I love you, Lucy..."

I'm not exactly sure if I'll keep this going, but we'll see. So, please give me feedback on what you think. Also, this is a destiel fic, just so we're clear. *moon emoji*
