All You Need Is Love
Dean held Lucy's waist, pressing her back against his car. He kissed her softly. One of their last kisses. He whispered, "I'm going to miss you, my Lucy."
She nuzzled her face against his chest. She whispered, "I'm going to miss you more, Dean. I'll write to you, I promise. I love you..."
He kissed her cheek and said, "I love you more."
She smiled lightly with a tear falling from the corner of her eye. She replied, "I love you most."
He lifted her up a little as they hugged tightly. Cas watched them from the backseat of the car and sighed. No matter how heartless he tried to make himself seem, he still felt awful for his little sister. Dean suggested, "Maybe we should get in the car, you're driving."
He handed her the keys to his car and she smiled. She kissed his nose and ran to the other side of the car, sliding across the hood of the car in the process. She got into the driver's seat and Dean laughed as he got into the passenger's side. She drove down the street with great speed. Cas yelled, "Holy shit, LuLu. Slow the fuck down!"
She slammed on the brakes and jolted every one forward. Cas commented, "I didn't mean like that, smartass."
She apologized, "Sorry! Stop sign!"
Dean joked, "Tell me again why I let you drive?"
She laughed, "Good question. I could've just driven it back to your house instead."
He shrugged, "Too late now I guess."
Dean stared out his window, watching everything go by in a blur. He wanted to remember every detail of their little town. Then, he looked at Lucy. He put his hand in his pocket, fumbling with the small velvet box that was inside.
The car ride was mostly silent besides the comments about Lucy's horrid driving skills. They arrived at the airport, where they would be taken to a separate town for combat training. Castiel immediately walked inside with his suitcase and ticket at hand. Dean held Lucy's hands in his. He spoke, "So...this is it."
She nodded, "I guess so..."
He lifted her up in a hug and her legs wrapped around his torso. He whispered into her ear, "I'm so so sorry, Lucy...I-I don't wanna go."
She got to her feet and held his face in her hands, pulling him down for a kiss. When she let go she said, "I have something for you to remember me..."
She took off the locket from around her neck and set it in Dean's hand. He looked down at it, then at her. He shook his head, "I can't take this. This is the locket I gave to you for your birthday last year..."
She held his hand with the locket inside of it and curled his fingers into his palm. She said, "It has our pictures in it. You can wear it and always have me with you."
Tears fell from his eyes. He put the locket around his neck and tucked it inside his shirt. He spoke, "I have something for you too, Lucy."
He held her hands and got down on one knee. Her jaw hung open with tears multiplying. He pulled the box out of his pocket and put it in her hands. He asked, "Lucy, my love, will you marry me when I return home?"
She nodded, smiling. She was speechless. He stood up and kissed her, swinging her around in his arms. He cheered, "She said yes! She said yes!"
She opened the box and Dean pulled the ring out. He pushed it onto her ring finger on her left hand. He told her, "It was my grandmother's engagement ring, but I had "I Love Lucy" engraved on the inside of the band for you specially."
She kissed him over and over again, crying tears of joy and sadness. She didn't want him to go. Castiel stood by the airport doorways. He watched the whole proposal. He came back outside to tell Dean to hurry up, but when it happened, he didn't want to interrupt. Finally, he called out, "Dean! I'm sorry, but we gotta go!"
Dean kissed Lucy's forehead one last time and grabbed his suitcase from the trunk. He ran alongside Castiel to make their flight. Once inside and all checked in, they handed their tickets to the woman worker. She smiled, "Enjoy your flight, gentlemen."
The two walked inside and put their suitcases above their seats in the compartments. Dean took the window seat and stared out the window. Cas coughed nervously. He said, "So-uh-Dean, you proposed to my sister?"
Dean nodded, "Yep, I asked for Mr. Novak's permission last night. Why? Is there something wrong with that?"
He shook his head and laughed, "Of course not! I'm happy that she's happy."
Dean nudged him, "Hey, you could even be the best man."
Cas smiled and said, "I would love that."
Cas truly did value Lucy's happiness. He loved her and was protective of her, but there was also a part of him that was jealous of Lucy. Ever since he was little, he's always had a slight crush on Dean. Just a little thing from being his best friend and what not. It slowly faded when Dean and Lucy started dating. But he's never completely lost his feelings for Dean. Dean had that affect on people. So when Dean proposed, a little part of Castiel died inside. He wanted to be the one Dean loved. He wanted to be the person Dean wanted, no needed. But now it wasn't possible and in a way he was okay with that. He was okay for Lucy's sake.
He stared at Dean longingly, he had missed him. To the point that he was almost happy, filled with joy that Dean was enlisted with him. That maybe Dean might love him the way Cas has always loved him. He knew that was a long shot, impossible, but he could have dreams too.
He could have someone worth fighting for too...
