17. @zuko_42 || interview
What is your name?
||Just call me Zuko. ;)
When did you start making graphics?
||Well, I dabbled in a few simple covers in 2015, just so my stories could have covers (I'm sure we've all been there at some point)--but I only seriously started making graphics around May 2016.
What is your favorite type of graphic to make?
||I've been trying out new things, but my favourite will always be book covers.
Where do you get your inspiration?
||Inspiration is a fickle friend. Rely on yourself instead. ;) But if I were to really answer the question, I guess I like looking through graphics by other designers, reading books, watching movies, going through helpful little notes that I've jotted down in my notebook...
Why did you start?
||Because why not? ;) I was already an artist before a graphic designer, so designing was the next step from there. I wanted to have a wider arsenal to my list of skills, so I decided to take the step and learn designing. I have not regretted it.
Who is your inspiration in graphic designing?
||No Answer given
What is your opinion on your own graphics?
||Sometimes I am reasonably happy with them...but after a while I keep seeing mistakes, so many mistakes, so I try not to think about it too much. Either that or I remake from scratch. XD
How long does it usually take to make a graphic?
||Well, I'm still learning so it takes me longer than most graphic designers around here do. If I know what I'm doing, maybe an hour, maybe less. When I'm trying something new it can take up to three hours.
If you can supply us with one of your first covers.
||This is a cover I made for a friend of mine here on Wattpad, itsehmed . The original version is to the right. I recently remade it just to see if I could improve it.
[Just for fun] If you could have any power what would it be?
||I'm terrified of heights but funnily enough, I'd love to be able to fly.
What would you say to those just starting?
||Don't be afraid to learn new things! Search for tutorials, ask for help, watch YouTube videos, experiment on your own...go with what works best for you.
-Start small. Learn the basics of design so you know the do's and don't's of design. It can go a long way in making your graphics look professional. Canva is a good place to start. And don't worry if your graphics don't always look good. That's what practice is for. :)
-Always make sure that you use stock images that are license free, or purchased for your own use--or you could even snap you own photographs. You could get into trouble for using copyrighted images, so it's best to be careful.
-Just as writers improve by reading, designers improve by observing the works of other designers. So do your research! Take a look at their designs, ask yourself why you like them (or you don't), and try to understand WHY.
Well, that's all. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me by tagging me in the comments. Before I go I'd just like to thank -evenstar- for suggesting me for this interview. You have my gratitude. <3
