She's doesn't even know who I am. How can she not know who I am?
Have you tried talking to her?
I'm working up to it.
Since when is Tony Stark scared of a girl?
You're one to talk, Banner. When was the last time you saw any action?
As Tony texted and walked around lake in the middle of Central Park, he hoped to see you walking your dog as you did every day for the past month. It was the only reason he was there. The first time he saw you was completely an accident as he tripped over your leash, not watching where he was going. Every day since then, he watches intently, eager to get a glimpse of you, or if he's really, really lucky, finally have a conversation. After walking for an hour, he was ready to give up. He had stopped to take six pictures and give countless numbers of autographs to fans of Iron Man, but still no sign of you.
I think she's avoiding me now. She thinks I'm a stalker.
Says the man who has FRIDAY searching for her.
Point taken.
"Milton! Milton get your furry ass back here!"
Tony looked up from his phone to see you, frantically chasing your dog who had escaped his leash and was sprinting straight towards him. He knelt down and held out his arms, trying to steer the dog over in an effort to steer you as well.
"Come on, Milton. Come to Tony. Come on...help a brother out."
The dog ran willingly into Tony's arms and began licking his face and jumping on him, excited at the new stranger. "Ok, mutt, cool it. We're gonna look like this is a set up."
You ran up to the man holding your stupid dog, panting and holding your side. "Hey...thanks for...catching...him." Bending over slightly, you put your hands on your thighs, trying to catch your breath. "Damn...dog."
"You okay?" Tony grabbed the end of the leash, hooking it back on Milton and taking it from you. "Here, take this." He handed you his bottle of water and directed you to a nearby bench. Lifting your hand slightly, you declined the water but gladly accepted the brief rest.
"Thanks, but I don't share with strangers. I appreciate it though."
"I don't think we're strangers anymore. I practically made it to second base with your dog back there." Hearing his own words, he laughed at how ridiculous they sounded. He sat next to you, but not too close, worried he might scare you off. "I mean...uh, I don't know what I was going for, actually."
You laughed until you snorted; you quickly covered your mouth, now completely mortified. It was an involuntary response to being nervous, and this guy made you extremely nervous but you didn't know why. You had seen him almost every day as you walked Milton, and he seemed nice enough. He was ridiculously attractive though; the kind of attractive that made you think he knew it, and that he used it to his advantage.
"Okay, that was adorable."
"Shut up, it was not!" Shaking your head, you took the leash back and stood, preparing to continue your walk.
Tony knew he didn't want you to leave, quickly standing with you. "Would you, um, mind if I walked with you for a bit? Maybe just to the other side of the lake?" Before you could answer, a small group of kids ran up to him, excited to see Iron Man in the park.
"Mr. Stark! Mr. Iron Man! Could we take a picture with you? Pleeeeease?"
Giving you a brief, apologetic smile, he turned and knelt down in front of the group and gave his best Iron Man pose, trying to not show how much he would rather be walking and talking with you. When he was done and had said goodbye to the last child, he turned to see that you were gone.
~~~
I don't know what happened.
Just try again tomorrow, Tony.
She really didn't know who I was. I think it scared her.
Most women are scared after they get to know you. She's ahead of the curve.
As he walked back to his car, Tony saw you again. You were sitting alone on a bench on the Mall, typing on your phone as Milton slept at your feet.
He's really cute. So much hotter in person.
I'm jealous, (Y/N). Enjoy my misery.
I think he might try to ask me out. What do I do?
YOU GO OUT WITH HIM. And then hook me up with Captain America.
OMG he's coming this way. Gotta go.
"Hi again, Mr. Stark. I'm sorry, I can't believe I didn't recognize you. You probably don't get that much." Keeping your head down slightly, you avoided meeting his gaze. It felt like he was studying you. It was almost uncomfortable.
"Call me Tony. And let me take you out."
His arrogance took you aback, but you didn't find it unattractive, as it easily could have been. He carried his confidence well, and you knew this wasn't his first time taking charge with a woman. "Excuse me? That was forward."
"No," he reached down and snatched your phone from your hands. "This is forward." His hands furiously maneuvered through your contacts, adding his information. "There, you have my number. Call me when you're ready." Tony turned on his heel, walking away without another word, but his stomach was in knots; he was certain that was the last time he would ever see you.
I'm an idiot.
Yes.
I didn't even say what I did.
No need, Tony. No need.
~~~
Pick me up at 8.
It was 7:45pm and you felt like you could vomit. Your nerves were getting the best of you, and you began to wonder if you had made a mistake. This guy is Tony Stark. He's Iron Man. He's so far out of your league that you were waiting for the text that said he was just messing with you and had no intention of showing up. Your anxiety was at an all-time high when the firm knock landed on your door. With a deep breath, you straightened your posture and swung the door open.
Dammit, he was cuter than you remembered. Your cheeks felt hot as you stared at him.
"I know. I look good." He smirked as he spun around, pulling a bouquet of dog biscuits from behind his back. "I figured I had better bring something for Milton, so he doesn't get jealous that I'm taking his mommy out."
"Stop it." You grabbed the bouquet, setting it on the table behind you. He stepped into your apartment, looking around confused, not sure of what you meant.
"Sorry?"
"Stop being so perfect. It's too much pressure."
"That's a first." He reached down and grabbed your hand, pulling you thru your door. "Let's get outta here. We're on a schedule."
~~~
As you reached the car you were greeted by the driver, who looked familiar to you. Looking closer, you realized it was Dr. Banner. "How does Tony Stark not have his own driver? I've done some research on you, mister, and I can't imagine that you would need your friends to haul you around."
"Ma'am. Allow me." Bruce took your hand and helped you into the back of the vehicle. Tony followed close behind, moving in to sit tightly next to you. The car had only gone about six blocks when Bruce stopped and moved around to your door, helping you out.
"Thanks, Dr. Banner, I'm sorry you have to do this."
"It's my pleasure, (Y/N). Enjoy your evening."
Looking up, you were in front of the Avengers tower. "Quite the impressive building you guys have here. So are we stopping by or do you have something up your sleeve?"
Tony smirked and put his arm around your waist, "Let's find out, shall we?" He led you to the elevator, opening to the rooftop. Your eyes brightened as you took in the setting; it was bathed in lights and flowers, music filling the clear night. A red-haired woman that you knew as Natasha Romanoff was manning the bar, and a very tall and attractive Steve Rogers was directing you a table set up with a dinner for two.
"How about a dance before dinner?" Tony pulled you in close and spun you around, your dress flowing in the breeze. As you were turned back to face him, his eyes were darker than you remembered, his expression now much more serious. He leaned in to kiss you, but you pulled back.
"So, did you really get the Avengers to put your date together? Slow night at work?"
"They're my friends. They want to see me happy." He leaned in again, his lips leaving soft kisses along your neck. You let out a soft hum at his touch, and you could feel his smile against your skin. "You make me happy." He straightened and put his hand on your chin, lifting your face to meet his, finally kissing you.
"Excuse me." Steve stood with his hands on his hips, clearly annoyed. "I didn't sign up for this." He waved his hand from you to Tony. "You sit, I bring the food, I get to leave."
"Be happy on your own time."
