Head Over Feet/Love (Wanda Maximoff x reader)
Head over feet: The beginning- Based on the song Head Over Feet by Alanis Morissette
I had no choice but to hear you
You stated your case time and again
I thought about it
"Give me one good reason, (Y/N). Why are you fighting something that you know you want?"
Your cheeks felt hot and you knew how red they must have become listening to her attempts to persuade you. Your feelings for Wanda had come on fast and powerfully; you hadn't felt this way for anyone before, and the ferocity now was shocking to you but obvious to everyone around you.
"We're teammates, Wanda. What if this all goes wrong? What if we can't work together anymore?" You took a few steps closer to her, doing your best to hold eye contact, when all you wanted to do was look away and run from her. "I don't know if this is a good idea."
She smiled brightly, and you could have sworn that you saw a hint of red flash through her eyes. "But, my darling, what if it's the best idea we've ever had?"
You treat me like I'm a princess
I'm not used to liking that
You ask how my day was
Your love is thick and it swallowed me whole
You're so much braver than I gave you credit for
That's not lip service
"(Y/N), come in. (Y/N), what's your location?" Steve's comm was met with static, and you didn't hear his call out for you. He looked at Wanda, who was now in a state of near panic. "Nothing. Do you get any read on her?"
"No, I've tried." She looked around frantically, turning in any direction that she thought she may have heard something that could have been you. The team hadn't been able to locate you for nearly an hour now and they were beginning to think the worst. "Captain, I'm not leaving until I find her."
"I never said we should leave," he sighed, jogging up to Tony, who had just emerged from the woods next to the battle site. "Stark, you got anything for me?" He looked back at Wanda, who was now standing completely motionless with her hands outstretched as if she were trying to feel your presence in the air around her. "She's barely holding it together."
The face of Tony's suit opened, and his face was sunken and tired, "Cap, I've got no signal on her, no life signs anywhere in the area. I don't see a good ending to this." His eyes widened and he turned away when Wanda approached with her hands poised to strike against him.
"I will not accept that. Do you understand?" Her voice trailed off and her eyes closed; moments later a faint smile crossed her lips. "There," she whispered, "there she is." Tony and Steve followed close behind as she ran towards you, desperate to know if you were alive or dead. Her heart sank when she saw you, unconscious, beaten, and barely alive. She dropped to the ground next to you and covered your body with her own to keep you warm until they could move you.
"I'm here, my love. I'm here."
You are the bearer of unconditional things
You held your breath and the door for me
Thanks for your patience
I've never felt this healthy before
I've never wanted something rational
I am aware now
In the weeks that followed, Wanda was always at your side as you recovered and regained your strength. When you were finally released from the infirmary and given the approval to return to duty, it terrified her that she might see you hurt again. Even after watching you train with Steve, and win, you might add, she wasn't convinced.
"This is exactly what I was worried about, Wanda. We can't work together anymore, because you're too worried about me. This is my job. This is what I do, and I'm ready."
She paced in front of you, flashes of red in her eyes and swirling around her as her anger and worry grew. It began to scare you to see her this way, as if she were losing control of herself. "You don't seem to understand, (Y/N), so I will have to show you."
You felt your head spin as she entered your mind, sharing the sight of you lying at her feet. Your breath caught in your chest when the sadness and fear hit you, powerful enough to cause your heart to race and your body to tremble. "Wanda...stop..." You stumbled forward, grabbing the wall when the vertigo became more than you could handle.
"(Y/N), I'm sorry!"
You panted for air when she released you; it wasn't that you didn't understand what she was saying, but now that you had felt it first-hand, you knew the depths of her feelings for you in a way that you hadn't realized before. "No...I'm sorry...I didn't realize what that had done to you. I'm so sorry." Shaking your head and standing to look at her, you realized that neither of you would have the resolution you wanted without some kind of compromise. "But, Wanda, I won't leave the team."
"I know," she conceded, her voice soft, "then we fight together. I will always be at your side, as it should be."
"I hate it when you're right," you laughed. "Why are you always right?" You took her face in your hands and gave her a soft kiss, pulling away to take her hands in yours. "This really was the best idea we've ever had."
You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault
Love: The ending- Based on the song Love by Daughter
I can't forget it,
Though I've tried
I know you regret it, love,
You told me so many times.
You began to wonder if the apologies would ever stop. In the beginning they were all you wanted, and what you hoped would allow you to move on, but the relentless reminder of her transgression was exhausting and your heart was remaining as broken as ever. Moving out of the tower was the best decision that you could make at the time, but you missed your friends, and you missed seeing Wanda everyday, no matter how difficult it was. Loneliness was becoming your friend now.
But I still wonder
Why
You left with her
And left me behind
Your phone rang, but you weren't in the mood to talk to anyone. Seeing that it was Clint didn't help; you knew that if you didn't answer, he would likely show up at your door within a matter of minutes and he would be impossible to get rid of. You took a deep sigh and answered, annoyance clear in your tone, "Barton."
"Hey, (Y/N), a few of us are going out tonight, and we really want you to come along. Whatcha say?"
"Thanks, Clint, but I need to keep working here and get the place set up." It was a lie, but you didn't have any other excuse to decline him. "I'm still trying to settle in. Doesn't feel like home yet, you know?"
"Yeah," he paused and his voice became low and quiet, "but you've locked yourself away. It's not healthy, and we miss you."
"She's right there, isn't she?"
"(Y/N)-"
"Thanks anyway. Gotta go." You threw your phone on the table and dropped yourself on the couch, shaking your head as if you were trying to shake her out of your mind. There were so many questions that you wanted to ask, with answers that you would likely never hear.
Take your hands off her
'Cause she's the only one that I have ever loved
And please don't find her skin
When you turn the lights out
I can't erase it from my mind
I just replay it, love,
Think of it all of the time.
But I don't want to imagine
Words you spoke to her that night.
Naked bodies look like porcelain,
You both knew I'd be bleeding inside.
Waking up in a cold sweat at 3am became your routine since you had moved out and away from Wanda. The visions in your head that crowded your dreams were relentless; almost so much so that you wondered if she had something to do with them being there, but even she wouldn't be that cruel. If she really felt remorse and if she really wanted to make things better with you, then she would take these dreams away. But that would mean contact with her, allowing her to be close to you again, and your anger and hurt were still too strong to even consider it.
With a groan you rolled over and threw your blankets to the side, forcing yourself out of bed. If you weren't going to sleep, then why not fill the hours with purposeful torture? You walked to your window, the one that faced the tower, and stared up at the room that was hers. The one that used to be yours too. Tony meant well when he insisted on buying the apartment across the street for you; he wanted you to be close to the team, and close to your real home, but this was too close for you to move on. It wasn't helping that you could so easily inflict your own pain.
Did she make your heart beat faster than I could?
Did she give you what you hoped for?
Oh, nights of loveless love, I hope it made you feel good,
Knowing how much I adored you.
The tower was dark overall, with only the lights from the lab illuminated. Tony was a late-night worker, and the man rarely slept. Being on your third night without rest, you couldn't understand how he did it without going completely insane. You already felt on the verge, and your body was beginning to feel the effects of fatigue. Your vision shifted when the flicker of a light caught in your peripheral sight, coming from her room. As you watched, a silhouette appeared in the window, leaning against the frame and looking out over the city. It wasn't the shape of the body that you knew; it wasn't the body that you had held so close to your own, and it wasn't the body that your hands had traced over so many times so that you knew every curve and line. It wasn't hers. As the knots grew in your stomach and as the tears threatened your eyes, you pulled the curtains closed on both the windows and on your mind, promising yourself that tomorrow would be a new day. Just as you had promised the day before, and the day before that.
You're making me sick, love.
