Chapter 3 - The Museum

Magic! Did he just say magic? I am not hearing things, I am not. I need him to repeat it though for validation of the fact I am not going crazy and my wildest dreams are unfolding in a timely fashion.

Oh what if this magic he is referring to is a fragrance or an herb that he has discovered and he called it magic. I want to believe in this moment that I it is magic; the magic from myths. The type of magic I had always believed to exist.

The man was stood in front of me now. He was very serious looking and wore a suite. "Rylan Moore, you have been chosen." Okay this guy is very cryptic, first you're smelling magic with no other context given then you have been chosen. I need some elaboration dude; I could ask but something tells me I am going to get a one word answer. Or an even more cryptic sentence. He then gestured for me to follow. I did without hesitation, I was intrigued as he was being cryptic and illusive.

He took me back to where the taxi had dropped me off. There was still nothing there. The man pulled out a stone from his suite pocket. He extended his arm out upward holding the stone towards the sky.

I wondered what he was doing. The stone began to glow. Cool. No, amazing.

Nope, mesmerising. Too many feelings are streaming through me right now. It's a magic stone, and I am about to cry with joy. Well I assume it's a magic stone anyways because I don't want to think that he might be holding up a plastic toy with an LED light in.

Then something purely tantalising happened. A building a vast building unveiled before me. My jaw dropped quite literally. It was magnificent. Columns at the front holding up an arch that had an inscription on it. I couldn't read it though as it was a language I did not recognise. It was huge, the end was not in sight, and the height was intimidating.

I think this is the best day of my entire existence so far. The exterior of the building alone brought intrigue. I can say with certainty that this was magical, I mean it could be an optical illusion but that's one hell of an illusion hiding a building this big. I was very elevated right now due to over excitement of the events that have unfolded before me.

Something tells me the excitement is not over yet. The man from earlier began walking towards the entrance of the magnificent building. I followed hastily eager to see the inside. He stops promptly at the door. I glance at him, then at the door. It was wide and tall door, with carvings on symbols all over. From what I could tell it was made out of wood and varnished with a dark brown. In the centre was a hand imprint. I look at the man again and he gestures towards the hand imprint. I am assuming I put my hand there. I know the obvious conclusion is too put your hand there but my head is spinning still from overwhelming feels.

I took a very deep breath and placed my hand on the door. A light emitted around my hand as I came in contact with door. As you would expect it then opened. I am all for this magical unfolding but I do like a little bit of context with it. I really hope this guy starts a monologue soon.

"I'll explain everything in due time." He speaks up. Can he read my mind? I have no idea what this guy is capable of. "You must enter first so we are safe." He says.

"Are we not safe out here?" I ask sceptically.

"In short, no." he replies.

He's straight to the point or cryptic I cannot win with this guy. I guess I will walk blindly into this massive building with absolutely no clue what's going on. I don't actually care which is concerning but that's something that I will deal with later when I'm having life revelations.

I enter the building and so does the man. The door shuts behind us.

"I am sorry for the elusiveness, I am Topal." Topal. Topal. I'm going to have to get used to that. Topal. It's a unique name I must say.

I follow Topal further in. It's quite empty in this part. There's a few chairs dotted around. It appears to be an abnormally sized waiting area. There's a few paintings on the wall. And a huge Muriel on the ceiling. I continue following Topal until the next room.

There's a small table with two chairs around it. And around that are bookcases lined against the wall. Topal gestures for me to sit. I walk over and sit down on the chair. Topal sits opposite me and then pulls out a file from thin air. He begins flipping through the pages. I peer over to see if I can get a glimpse of it but he slams it shut before I could.

"Rylan, you have had the utmost privilege of being selected for this prestigious position."

"Cool, what's the position exactly?"

"The Guardian of the Museum of Mythical beings."

I start nodding continuously. "I am at a loss for words." I say as I am still nodding. "A bit of elaboration might be helpful here." I smile at Topal.

"Very well I will monologue for you." He can read minds, I am convinced now.

'Before humans there were many different kind of beings, the sort of beings you hear about in fairy tales. These beings lived in harmony for many centuries, that was until a war broke out and with it chaos and destruction ensued.

Humans at that time were practically new to the world, having be created to balance out the weight of power. A God created them as a lesser race to hopefully show the others that just being is enough and you do not need power to live a good life. It back fired though when many humans were induced into slavery and pawns of the others.

And in turn they fought back. No one could have imagined that they would prevail being they were so weak compared to their counterparts but they did with the wits of their minds.

What they lacked in one area they excelled in another. Within a short amount of time they had wiped out many and sent many into hiding. The God whom created them asked them to yield and end this onslaught of misery. The humans refused.

So the God compromised, he said if they stop he will gather the remaining of each kind and lock them up in a place they can never escape. And that's how the museum came to be.'

So what I am hearing from this guy is theirs mythical beings here and I am their babysitter. I am sold. I mean the condensed story of the museums origin was enticing and I'll probably hear more about it later but there could be dragons here!

"Before you start though, just like any job there's training."

And just like that Topal you ruined the whole mood. Wait a minute. How to train you dragon! I am down for that sort of training. Toothless, I am coming! I noticed Topal walking over to another door.

This is where my adventures begins. I know cliché saying; sue me.
