Chapter 1 - It all starts on a Wednesday
I Rylan Moore, age twenty-five can say with complete certainty that the world of mythical and magical is in fact more real than I could ever imagine!
I am getting ahead of myself though, it all started on a Wednesday. Wednesday already seems to be a common day for things to happen to me, all good things happen on a Wednesday as I say.
I was running late for work again. Tardiness is my speciality at the moment. I mean I've been just on time for the better part of my life but as of late I have being getting worse.
I swear I'm going to get fired one of these days. My boss will not even tell me, he will just lock the doors and stand there with a face of disapproval. I should go to bed earlier. I then laugh at my own thought. Sleep is for the weak yet when I do sleep I can sleep for donkey's years. I bet I'd win a gold medal for sleeping in the Olympics if that was a sport that is.
I have got to stop babbling to myself, this is why I am late all the time. Always have impromptu thoughts in my head about irrelevant things. If I were a fairy like Tinker-Bell I could have these thoughts while speedily flying to work. Alternatively I could find a magic broomstick and fly that way or even a dragon!
I would never get fired if I had a dragon, they would be too scared to fire me. In fact they'd probably be more concerned about being set on fire than firing me. I am losing focus again.
Keys! Where are thou keys? I spotted my keys over on the kitchen side and walked over and grabbed them. I had no time for breakfast so brunch it was once again. I hastily leave my apartment and lock the door behind me. I start to lightly jog down the stairs in my apartment building, I needed to make up for the wasted time and the time I was going to waste.
I got to the entrance and as I was opening the door I bumped into our postman, Tom. I apologised quickly for bumping into him but just as I was walking off he handed me my post. Apparently I was the only one who had post today he told me so it would save him time.
I wish I could have his saved time and use it to get to work on time. I pulled my phone out of my pocket to see the time. I have precisely seven minutes to get to work and I am wasting time looking at the time. I shove the post I had been handed and started to literally sprint. I make it to the end of my road and stop. The office was a twenty minute walk I thought so if I run like I'm being chased by a dire wolf I could make it in time.
I took a moment to catch my breath and then ran like my life depended on it, I reached the office only be 3 minutes late. My boss didn't even notice. I slumped into my desk chair; absolutely exhausted. I was never one for sports of any type in fact when we did cross country I would always be at the back. I liked it that way anyways it gave me think and imagine things like the field was a cloud and pieces of it were disappearing so I would have to hop from piece to piece.
My thoughts were halted by my co-worker slash friend Abby was in front of me, frantically trying to get me out of my trance.
"Sorry Abby, I was deep in thought again."
"As you always are, what was it this time? Unicorns, Demons or your crush cooking you a home cooked meal?" Abby gests.
"All of the above." I laugh. "Where's the boss? I haven't seen him yet."
"On a conference call; which makes you lucky as he'll never know your were three minutes late and you should probably clean up a bit you are extremely sweaty."
"Yeah, I ran here."
"I would have never guessed." Abby Jokes. Abby takes her leave and I get out my work deodorant and head to the bathroom. After I made myself more presentable and not so sweaty I sat back at my desk and started up my PC. Despite my tardiness flaw, I felt I was a hard worker. I majority of the time had most of my work completed before deadlines.
I was an editor for a small magazine publication and although not my dream job it wasn't bad.
About an hour in, I decided to open my post. Well open the ones I knew weren't bills. Which was all of them expect one.
I looked at the envelope it had a tree like pattern to it. I had no clue whom it was from. I peel back the opening from the right hand side and pull out the enclosed letter.
I open it up to read it, the only thing it had on it was an address. I turn it over to make sure I had not missed anything. Nope it was just the address. This was very mysterious and it was making me very giddy, this could be an adventure! A grin swipes across my face. Abby pears over. "What's made you smile?"
"Just a potential for an adventure." I respond. She comes round and looks at the letter that I have in my hands.
"It's just an address?" she says puzzled.
"Yes but to where?" I retort.
"So you've been given a random address and you don't find that suspicious or even dangerous to go there?"
"I'll put find my iPhone on, plus only a handful of people have my address, I bet it's my mum and she has planned a scavenger hunt for me!" I squeal a little.
"Okay I feel like your mind is set on going, just be safe please, and let at least someone other than me know where you are crazy girl!" Abby laughs.
I smile and nod at Abby. I put the letter to the side and go on google to search for the address. Strangely nothing comes up. I was disheartened, it was a hoax. My phone then lit up and my google maps had opened with directions. That was slightly weird but I liked the mystery of this whole situation.
After work, me, google maps and an adventure in the making!
