Peter is a young boy. He recently moved to the countryside with his family. His parents were cleaning the house and moving in the furniture.
"Peter, can you go outside and play by yourself. There's a lot of dust in here. You will fall sick," shouted his mother.
"Okay Mom," replied Peter.
Peter grabbed a lollipop and went into the garden.
He suddenly heard whimpering noises.
Scared, Peter cautiously made his way to the back of the garden. He saw a baby dragon crying quietly.
Feeling bad, Peter went to the baby dragon and offered his lollipop.
Peter said, "Don't cry. Here, you can have my lollipop."
The baby dragon looked at Peter in surprise and asked, "Why are you talking to me? We are so different."
Peter answered, "That's okay. We may be different but, we are both kids. I think we can have fun if you want to be friends. I'm Peter. What's your name?"
The dragon became excited and started wagging its tail. The tail hit the trees and all the leaves started falling down. So, the dragon had to stop wagging immediately.
"I'm Green. All my friends left for the summer camp and I am all alone. That is why I was crying. But it's okay now since I have you as my friend. What do you want to play?" asked Green.
Peter thought for a while.
"Let's go to the park and play on the slide," said Peter excitedly.
"What's a slide?" asked Green.
Peter's eyes grew round in surprise.
"It's something where you glide down fast. Have you never played on a slide before?" asked Peter.
Green shook his head and said, "No, I never played on a slide. Normally, my friends and I try to see who can fly faster."
Peter clapped his hands in excitement.
"Let's go to the park. I'll show you the slide," shouted Peter happily.
Peter and Green walked to the park.
Whoosh
Peter climbed up the ladder and slid down the slide.
Whoosh Whoosh
Peter climbed up the ladder and slid down two more times.
"My turn. My turn. This is my first time on a slide," shouted Green.
Green ran to the slide and flew up the ladder.
Bam! Thud! Clank! Thud!
As soon as Green sat on the slide, the slide shattered into pieces. Green was to heavy for the slide and was left sitting on top of the broken slide.
Peter looked at the broken pieces and tears filled his eyes. He started crying loudly.
"You broke the slide. Very bad. You were right. We are different. We can't play together," screamed Peter.
Green felt very sad and started sniffling.
"What is all this ruckus? Why are you making so much noise? Why have you woken me up from my sleep?" shouted an owl from its nest.
Green replied sadly, "I'm sorry for waking you up. I broke the slide and Peter is angry with me. He won't play with me anymore."
The owl grumpily replied, "Little dragon, take the boy on your back and fly to the north. You will find a bigger slide that won't break. Now, off you go little children. I must sleep."
Peter and Green looked at each other in hope. Peter climbed onto Green's back. Green started flying.
Whee!
Peter shrieked in happiness. He had never flown before. He touched the tops of the trees, saw the earth from high up in the sky and got drenched in the clouds. It was a lot of fun. The higher they flew, the smaller everything seemed on the ground. The entire town looked like it could fit in Peter's hand.
Green and Peter kept flying. They were having so much fun that they forgot about the slide they were searching for.
"Hello, there! Where are you flying?" said a squeaky voice.
Looking up, Peter and Green saw a flock of cranes flying towards them.
"We are searching for a slide," shouted Green.
"Slide? What is a slide?" asked the cranes.
"A slide is where you sit on top of a slope and you automatically slip down," replied Peter.
"So, that's what a slide is. You can find it on that mountain over there. Can you see the white snow? Go there. You will find a big slide. Have fun," shouted the cranes and flew away.
Peter and Green flew to the mountain. It was the first time they had seen snow.
Peter and Green had a snowball fight. They made a snowman and snow angels. Well, the snow angel that Green managed to make was more of a snow dragon.
"What are you doing in my home?" said a voice. The voice was low, growly and scary.
Peter and Green looked around. However, they did not find anyone. They saw snow moving to their left. To their fascination and horror, the snow moved and started walking towards them. Peter and Green screamed.
"Hmph. I'm only a polar bear. Stop screaming children. Tell me why you are here," ordered the polar bear.
"Well, we are looking for a slide," said Green in a terrified voice.
The polar bear looked confused.
"What is a slide?" asked the polar bear.
"A a slide is is something which has a a slope and we sit on the slope and slide down," stammered Peter in fear.
"Come with me," growled the bear.
Peter and Green followed the bear. They walked over the bright, white snow. Their legs kept sinking into the snow, making Peter's shoes and Green's paws wet. The little group climbed high up the mountain. They finally reached the edge. It was very steep.
"You can slide down here. Go on now. Once you go, I can eat my fish peacefully," said the polar bear.
Peter climbed on Green. They sat at the edge of the mountain and looked down the steep slope. Green kicked with his legs and they began to slide down the mountain. The snow fell onto their hair, their faces and their clothes. In no time at all, both of them were completely drenched.
Green moved his tail to the left to go left. Green moved his tail to the right to go right. Green's tail acted liked a rudder.
Peter and Green zipped down the mountain quickly, flying past the trees. They went zigzag. Then, they went straight. Then, they went zigzag again. Both Peter and Green were laughing and having the time of their lives. Finally, they reached the bottom of the mountain.
Grr! Gurgle! Grr!
Both Peter's and Green's stomachs growled in hunger. After having an amazing adventure, the young boy and the dragon were hungry.
Peter climbed onto Green's back and flew back home.
"I had a lot of fun Green. I'm glad I met you. I'm sorry I shouted at you," said Peter.
"I'm glad I became friends with you, Peter. I learned that it's okay to be different and it's okay to make friends with someone who is different," said Green.
"That's true. I wouldn't have been able to fly and you would have never played on the slide if we didn't become friends. Since we are different, we had an amazing adventure. I had a lot of fun Green," shouted Peter.
After Peter and Green went home, they ate a scrumptious meal and told their parents about the wonderful adventure they had. The parents smiled in amusement at their imagination.
Moral of the story: It's okay to be different. It's okay to make friends with someone who is different.
