Chapter 7: Confusion and understanding

It had been three days since I had 'woken up'.

My dad had been almost as bad as my mom, all over me with worry. It was extremely annoying, and my siblings, two brothers and a sister, were continuously bugging me, asking me over and over again how it felt and if my heart stopped, or if I stopped breathing. How would I know, you don't exactly feel anything when you're knocked unconscious by a lightning bolt.

My friends had also been asking me where I had been, and my teachers were angry that I hadn't been at school for being away for three days, espacially since I had missed major assesment.

Now, I was sitting in english class, listening to my teacher prattle on about Romeo and Juliet, which was getting really annoying. Why couldn't we just whatch the stupid film instead of the teacher stopping it whenever one character stops speaking.

I sighed and added another note to my growing list. I shook my head, trying to get rid of the dizziness that had been in my head since the mornining. It had been making it very difficult to consintrate. Reflamen was currently gorging himself on a meal brought to him by another dragon. He seemed very lively at that moment, probably because he hadn't moved much since I had fainted. I had tried to make him go out and play with the other baby dragons, or at least for a walk. Even if he couldn't talk yet, I could understand that he wasn't going anywhere, but it had been hurting the little dragon, even if he didn't realise it.

'I better get back to that world soon, otherwise Reflamen will begin to get ill form lack of exercise,' I thought. Reflamen heard the thought and snorted. He obviously thought that he was fine.

I smiled, imagining finally getting back to that world and spending time with Reflamen. Flying on his back with the wind flowing over my face, leaning forward as he began to go into a dive the leaning back as he pulled out of it, then clutching tight to the saddle as he twisted around. He would raor and breath a blast of extremely hot fire. Amazing!

"Derrick!" yelled the teacher, "Stop daydreaming and consentrate!"

I sighed, if only that could happen.

My magic had been getting better as well. I was managing to cast spells now without to much worry of running out of energy, and my fire spells were getting incredibaly easy, I could even set myself on fire without worry of getting burnt. Relflamen had seemed espacially interested in that. I was also getting pretty good at my sword work, and the 'imaganery' soldiers were becoming more and more real. They now effected things around them, like leaving footprints in the ground, or cutting apart bushes. I also found that I could summon them at will, and control them, like minions.

"DERRICK!" yelled my teacher.

"Sorry," I said, getting back to my work.

I glanced at my watch, only ten minutes to go, then lunch.

Suddenly a wave of dizziness washed over me. I groaned.

"Hey, are you alright man," said Rolland, my best friend.

"Yeah," I said, "Just feeling a bit dizzy."

He nodded.

I growned again, as another wave of dizziness came and went.

"You sure you're alright?" he said.

"Maybe not," I said, "I'll ask if I can go to sick bay."

I put my hand up. It took about a minute for the teacher to finally notice.

"Yes Derrick," he said.

"I'm not feeling well," I said, "May I go to sick bay."

Suddenly another wave of dizziness hit me, I put my head on the desk and let out a loud grown. The teacher frowned.

"If it's really that bad, you can go," said the teacher.

I nodded and stood up. I swayed slightly, what was happening? I started to make my way to the door and almost fell over on the way there. I lent against the doorway, crouched over.

"Do you want someone to go with you?" asked the teacher.

"No," I replied, "I'm alright."

"No your not, Rolland, help him please," said the teacher.

Rolland got up and walked over and put his hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him and smiled.

'What's wrong with me?' I thought.

I stood up and started to walk out of the classroom. Suddenly a very strong wave of dizziness hit me, so strong that I was knocked of my feet. As I fell my vision went black.

I felt myself waking up, in an uncomfortable bed with an itchy blanket. I wa slowly waking up, but I still had my eyes closed. My eyes slowly opened. I forced them back closed, wanting to get a few more minutes sleep. I was woken up by something landing inbetween my legs, hard. I shot up, gasping, and groaned in pain. I heard a growl of of surprise and the weight left.

I looked around, this place looked familiar, a bit like the medical tent in 'The Forbidden Blade' (The story I'm writing). There was a sound on the floor, I looked down.

"Reflamen!" I said surprised.

Reflamen let out a playful yelp then jumped at me. If you're wondering, a baby dragon is stronger then it looks. He jumped at my chest and pushed me flat into the bed. He then started to lick my face, which was an experience that I wouldn't want to experience again.

"Okay! Okay! I'm here now, I'm here!" I said trying to protect my face from Reflamen's tongue.

I managed to push the dragon of me and sit back up. I pushed back the covers and got off the bed. Reflamen stood beside me. He looked up and gave a playful yelp. I nelt down and touched the dragon's head. For the first time I got to study the dragon probably. I had imagined him several times but this time he was real.

His scales was a lot of different colours. They were all similiar dark colours that sort of molded together, like the camouflage on an army uniform. They were almost the same colour as well, but with a bit more green and lighter brown.

I had never seen a dragon with this assortment of colours before. Most dragons were only one colour, like green or purple. Usually when a dragon was multiple colours it was sick, or something was wrong with it, but everything seemed fine with Reflamen.

I picked him up. He was surprisingly light.

"You are one strange dragon," I said.

Reflamen yawned. I gasped and covered my nose with one hand, dropping poor Reflamen at the same time. The little dragon yelped in protest. I glared at him.

"What did you eat?" I said.

Reflamen snorted, like he was laughing, and amusment was coming from his mind. I raised my eyebrow.

"You're gonna' be a handful," I said.

'Look who's talking,' said a voice in my mind.

I jumped, "Who said that?"

'Me, idiot,' said the voice.

I looked down at Reflamen, "You?"

He seemed to nod.

"Well you're definitly full of surprises, I've never heard of a dragon that could speak within a few days of hatching," I said.

Reflamen seemed to smile, 'And you know everything, don't you?"

"Basically," I replied.

'So... what are we doing standing around? I want to do something!' said Reflamen.

'Restless energy, know doubt,' I thought.

'Hey, I heard that!" said Reflamen.

I smiled, I was going to have to get used to that whole 'reading each others mind' thing.

"Alright, let's go and see of we can find Rogan," I said.

I walked to the door and opened it. It lead into a small wooden hallway, that led to a set of double doors. Along the hallway were other doors leading into small rooms like the one I was in. People were rushing in and out of the rooms and all along the hallway.

A walked up to the nearest person.

"Hey," I said, "Could you tell me where Rogan is?"

The man I asked looked at me for a second.

"Hey, I recognise you," he exclaimed, "You're exsposed to be in bed, unconscious!"

"Yes, yes," I said, "but I woke up, and now I want to see Rogan."

The man nodded his head, "Oh, yes, last time I heard he was in the training arena, teaching some new students, but he might be at the council, or maybe at the blacksmith."

I smiled, "Thanks."

I ran to the double doors and opened them. The village looked as normal as ever, people running around, doing there normal daily busness. I started to make my way to the training feilds. Reflamen hurried after me.

'Hey,' he said, 'Where exactly are we going?'

"We're going to the training grounds," I replied, "Hopefully Rogan is there, if not we'll go to the blacksmith."

Reflamen seemed to nod his head. I felt him going through my memories. He seemed surprised at some of the ones he saw.

'Well you have a very interesting life,' said Reflamen, 'Travelling between worlds and such.'

He seemed very calm about it, but I knew he was extremely surprised.

'Yes, I'm still trying to figure out what's going on myself,' I replied with my mind, 'But nothing seems to be coming up. I spent some time here, then went back to my world, then came back here again. Weard ha. I hope I just don't radomly 'teleport' between the two worlds.'

'I don't think that's it,' replied Reflamen, 'Do you notice that the first time you were here you spent three days before falling unconscious. Then you spent three days back in your world before coming back here.'

'Oh yeah!'

'I think that three days from now, maybe around the middle of the day, you will fall unconscious here and your conscious will travel back to your world, and it will keep on going like that, three days in this world, three days in your world, then three days back here again.'

'Maybe, I guess we'll see in three days time ha.'

'Yep, and if I'm right, then this might be a bit of a problem.'

'You got that right.'

We reached the training field. People were all over the place, training with different weapons and different techniques. A few dragon riders were also there, with their dragons curled up on one side of the feild. A few baby dragons were playing together, rolling over each other and play fighting.

Reflamen's eyes lit up. He started to make his way over to them. He looked back at me.

I smiled, "Go ahead, I'll be fine."

He seemed to smile, before running over to join the dragons. I scanned the field, looking for Rogan. I spotted him at the other end of the field, working with some younger kids.

I started to running over to him.

"Hey Rogan!" I yelled.

He looked up, and started with surprise before recovering and waving. When I reached him he stood up from helping one of the kids and walked over to me.

"What are you doing up?" he said, "Aren't you exsposed to be in bead."

"Na, I'm feeling fine now," I replied, 'I've been wondering where you are."

He smiled, "Where's Reflamen, he's been worried sick about you, he didn't even leave your bed side."

"I know, a bit of a worry wort isn't he," I replied with a smile, "he's over there, playing with the other hatchlings."

Rogan raised his eyebrow, "Up and around all ready, hey."

I smiled and nodded, "Hey. I was just wondering when I was going to start my training."

Rogan smiled and put his hand on my shoulder, "I'll help you out when I'm done with these kids, in about an hour. So unitl then, you can sit down and relaxe."

I nodded.
