Chapter 47: The Power of Imagination

I landed back on the ground, looking into the distance, and smiled. The king was finally dead. I had completed my goal. I looked down at the sword in my hand. I glowed slightly, as if it new what I was thinking.

"Don't worry Reflamen," I said smiling, "I'll be with you soon."

The gap that Reflamen once filled was now comletely void. I hadn't noticed it before, but now that the king was dead, nothing else mattered. I didn't have a reason to live. I felt the tears come to my eyes, and I cired. I cried for a long time, mourning the loss of everyone here, and how I hadn't been able to stop it. I cried for all the deaths I had caused, and the death of my dragon.

I nelt to the floor and gripped the swords with two hands. The sun came out, shining towards me. It looked beautiful, like heaven was decending. I smiled then rasied the sword up to the sky. The sun didn't shine of the flame blade, it was made from magic, so it wasn't like metal. I thought about what I was about to do, then plunged the blade towards my heart.

Suddenly it swurved away from my body and met another swords with a distinct clash.

"No you don't," said a femine voice that I new all to well.

I looked up at Charole, who was standing there with her sword against mine.

"Hello Charole," I said with a tired smile.

"Don't kill yourself!" said Charole, with a snarl on her face, "That is the most dispicable way for a worrior to die. Especially for no reason."

I sighed and shook my head, "Charole, I have no reason to live. If that's not a good enough reason to die then I don't know what is."

"You have plenty of reason to live!" yelled Charole, "What about your family, friends, and your dragon, your not going to just give up on them are you!"

"My family may be still alive," I said, "But all my friends, and Reflamen, are gone. Without Reflamen, I have no reason to live. Your a dragon rider. What of Lilly died, what then?"

"I would be destraught if Lilly died," said Charole, "But I'd only kill myself if I knew there was no way of getting her back."

"What?" I said, looking at her in confusion.

Charole laughed at me, "You really are stupid sometimes. You may be the most powerful person on the planet, but you are as stupid as they come."

"And how do you figure that?" I said with a raised eyebrow.

"You have the power to do almost anything!" she said, "Just freaking bring the dragon back to life."

I stared at her for a few seconds, taking in what she just said.

"Wait a minute," I said looking at her, "You mean I should just... revive Reflamen from the dead."

"YES!" she cried, "You created a whole world, so I don't see how bringing a dragon from the dead should be to much of a problem."

"Charole you're a genious!" I said with relief.

I laughed, Reflamen was going to be brought back. The gap was still there but it would soon be filled once more.

"Well what are we waiting for?" she said.

I stood up and started to run towards Reflamen's body. This day just got a whole lot more brighter. We raced towards where Reflamen's body lay. I was the first to make it, Charole right behind. A few dragons riders looked at us in surprise.

I looked for Reflamen, and saw him, surrounded by hundreds of other dragons. They were all gathered around, and they started to hum. It was a dragonic tune sung at a dragons funeral, before they burnt the body.

"Wait!" I cried.

One of the dragons put his tail in front of me, not allowing me through. This cermony was sacred to dragons, they believed that without it a dragon wouldn't be able to get to the afterlife safely. Suddenly one of the dragons opened his mouth a let out a red flame.

"No!" I cried, tears coming again.

I imaginered a fire sheild surrounding Reflamen, blocking all the dragon fire directed at him. As more dragons added there fire to the mix, I sat back, waiting for the fire to go away. As soon as the dragons stopped I got up and lept over the dragons tail, and ran towards where Reflamen's body lay.

A few of the dragons gasped as they saw that the body was still there, and one of them growled in surprise when they saw me run towards it.

"STOP!" I cried out.

All the dragons shuffled uneasily. A large purple one stepped out.

'What is the meaning of this Derrick?' said Sophire growling, 'Without this Reflamen will not be able to reach the afterlife. His soul will wonder forever.'

"My dragon doesn't need to go to the afterlife," I said, "Why does he when he can come back to this life."

'Are you saying that he can come back to life?' growled Sophire.

"Yes, I am," I said.

'That is direspectful for a dragon,' said Sophire, 'He won't be the same.'

"Yes he will," I said, "And I'll prove it."

I turned away from Sophire and faced Reflamen's body. I closed my eyes and started to imagine. I imagined all the dragons around me, watching in interest. The humans behind them, wanting desperalty to see what was going on. The school, now destroyed. The wind and sun. The clouds moving slowly across the sky. I imagined me, standing there facing Reflamen's dead body.

I imagined myself puting out my finger. A white light suddenly shot forth from it. It surrounded Reflamen's body and lifted him up into the air. The light swirled around him, lighting everything up. Reflamen then started to fall back to the ground. He touched the ground, the white light disappeared, and everything went still.

I opened my eyes. I suddenly felt something withing me. It was  deep joy, and the hole in my mind wasn't there anymore. Reflamen's tail twitched. The dragon then let out a big sigh, and rolled to his feet. The dragons around me gasped in surprise.

Reflamen looked around surprised. His eyes fell on me. I was standing there, staring at him, tears in my eyes.

'Derrick?' he said, 'What's going on, why are you crying? Where's the king!?'

Reflamen looked around for him, but didn't find him.

'Reflamen!' I cried, running up to him.

I gave him the biggest hug I could, all around the neck.

'Derrick?' he said.

I showed him all the images in my mind, everything that had happened.

'You're alive!' I said, 'I didn't know if it would work! I'm glad it did.'

Reflamen chuckled slighltly, 'Aaah, I remember now. The king shot that darkness thing at you, and I jumped in the way.'

'Yes you did, you stupid dragon,' I said laughing.

Reflamen frowned, and said jokingly, 'Please don't make me do that again. It hurt, a lot.'

I just laughed, 'You make sure you don't do it again.'

Reflamen looked around, 'Aah you going to do something about this mess, like maybe fix it all up, or maybe rebuild it.'

'And you think I'm going to do that all in a second?'

'Yep.'

I just laughed. I closed my eyes and imagined a small ball of white light to suddenly appear in my outstretched hand. It started to rise up until it was far above the buildings. It suddenly exploded, expanding rapidly. Everything it touched was instantly remade, anything dead was brought back. When it passed over us it healed all our wounds and restored our energy.

'Wouldn't that bring back the king as well?' said Reflamen.

'No,' I replied, 'His body was completely incinerated. The only thing it could bring back is the head, but that would die almost straight away anyway.'

"And what about the lizard things,' said Reflamen.

'All those were incinerated as well,' I said.

Reflamen nodded his head. I smiled and climbed onto his back.

'You know you rebuilt the school,' said Reflamen with a laugh.

I was true, the whole thing had been brought back, we were now standing on the oval.

'Dammit,' I said with a laugh.

Reflamen snorted.

Suddenly someone came from the gym. It was a whole heap of school kids along with a teacher. When they saw us they screamed.

"Hey, it's alright!" I said.

I slid of Reflamen's back and walked over to them.

"Derrick?" said the teacher.

I recognised him as the math teacher.

"What are you doing with those things?" he yelled at me.

I laughed, "Don't worry, there friendly, they helped save the town."

I walked up to Reflamen.

"And I am a dragon rider so... yeah," I said with a smile.

The teacher looked down the collum of dragons.

"Are you sure they are safe?" he said.

I nodded.

"Okay then," said the teacher, "I'll take your word for it."

I was honestly surprised at how well the had taken it, most of the kids were long gone, except for a few of my friends, who were staring at me with awe. I smiled and waved at them, they waved back. Reflamen suddenly took a big flap and we lifted off, into the air.

We stopped by my house and said hello to my parents and siblings. We had a nice chat, until the police came around, and even then we managed to convinse them that we were friendly. Eventually it was time for everyone to leave.

"Hey," I said, "Thanks."

Derrick smiled. He was sitting on Shadowrang.

"Don't mention it," he said with a smile, "It was fun. We got to blast the heck out of the lizards. It seemed even shadow was a challenger for them."

I laughed, "Yeah."

We looked at each other for a second.

"Do you think you'll come back?" said Derrick.

"Oh, I will come back," I said with a smile, "And you can come here anytime you want, but I don't think I'll faint again."

"Really?" said Derrick with a smile, "And how do you know that?"

"Just a feeling," I said with a smile.

Derrick nodded, "Well then, I guess we'll be seeing each other."

I nodded, "Yep."

With that Derrick lifted off, flying towards the other dragons that were now in the air. I closed my eyes and imaginered a portal. They all started to fly through.

'You can go to,' I said to Reflamen.

Reflamen laughed, 'As if, you need me. I'm going to stay here, it sounds like an adventure. Besides, I want to try some of those kangaroo things.'

I laughed, 'Well then, welcome to my home.'

'Thankyou very much,' said Reflamen.
