Chapter 4 part 2: My own dragon

Rogan was waiting for me on the other side of the door. He looked very board, his hands on his chin, staring into the distance. The door creaked when I opened it. He looked up, breaking from his trance.

"Hey," I said, smiling at him.

Rogan smiled back. He glanced at the swords in my hand and frowned slightly before smiling again.

"I see you got your swords," he said.

"Yep," I said with a smile, "When do I get to test them."

"First, give them to me, I'll see how good they are," said Rogan holding his hands out for the two swords.

I gave them to him handle first. He gripped the two with his hands and took a couple of swings. He frowned and gave them back to me.

"You sure you want them?" said Rogan sounding confused.

"Yes," I said with a smile.

"But there... unbalanced, you sure you wouldn't want any other two other double swords, they are unwealdy," said Rogan.

It was my turn to frown, they seemed perfect in my hands. Like they were made for me. Why was it that no one else liked them. They were the perfect duo.

"They seem perfectly fine to me," I said, still frowning.

"Ok," said Rogan, "Let's see how you move with them. We're going to go to the training feilds to test your two blades. Hey Robby, do you mind if we take these swords down for testing."

Robby smiled, "Of course, and if your not happy return and I'll give a full refund."

Rogan smiled, "Come one Derrick, let's go and test your swords out."

We made our way to the training arena. It was a big grassy feild with children, teens and adults of all ages duking it out like they were fighting for their lives. I wasn't surprised, of course.

"Ok," said Rogan, "Try out your blades, by yourself first, of course, and I'll judge. If you can handle the blades like they are perfect then you can keep them, but if you don't then we'll take them back to Robby."

I nodded in understanding, I already knew the prosedure. I took I ready position, it felt awkward, but that was only because I had never fought with a sword before, let alone two swords.

I imagined a soldier in front of me. He had a spear and a sheithed sword at his hip. He lunged at me with his spear. I twisted and struck with one of my swords. It sliced through the spear like a knife through butter. The soldier took a step back and was about to draw his sword, but I jumped forward and sliced through the soilders neck. It seemed to disintagrate. I took a step back, then instantly ducked and rolled out of the way of a spear that flew over my shoulder. I turned around to face another imaginary soldier. He drew his double-handed sword and swung it over head at me. I crossed the swords and the sword came down heavily on me. For some reason I felt the weight and shock of the double sword. This guy was imaginary, it wasn't 'sposed to have weight. The two of swords seemed to move of their according. I took one of them away from the lock and struck the soldier through the stomach. It disintegrated before my eyes. It all seemed so real. I ducked and jumped out of the way of two more swords. I changed the grip of my right sword to a reverse grip, like assasins and there knifes, and blocked a storke coming from behind spun around and chopped the soldiers head off. It also disintegrated. Somehow this didn't see like my imagination. I dodged another stroke, blocked then struck with both swords in two different directions, killing two more soldiers. Suddenly soldiers were everywhere. I ducked, blocked and struck so fast I didn't even know what I was doing anymore. The blades were controlling my every move.

'Connect the blades,' A voice said in my head, 'Connect them by the hilts.'

I dodged another stroke and disintagrated two more soldiers before a I connected the blades by there hits. The hilts seemed to grab onto each other and the blades started glowing. Then suddenly, instead of holding two blades I was holding a staff made completely out of flames. I changed my grip to match the staff, not even considering that my hands should of been roasted off by now. One of the soldiers swung his sword at me, I swung my sword to meet it. The staff cut the sword completely in half. Without even thinking I followed through with the other end of my staff and hit the soldier beneath the chin. The staff went straight through the soldiers chin and face before he disintagrated as well. I spun and blocked two swords with the staff, but the swords were just cut into two parts as well. I spun the staff extremely fast and cut the two soldiers in half. I then started to spin the staff so fast it looked like a flaming sheild. Don't ask me how I did it, I have no idea how I did, but it worked. Any soldier that came close to me was cut into peices. Eventually there was no soldiers left. I took a step back and dropped the staff. It dissappeared intstantly. I was to tired to even care. I don't think that I'd ever done so much arm exercise in my life.

I looked around. A small crowd of people had gathered around, and they were now gaping at me in amazment, even Rogan was.

It was then I realized that my blades were missing. I looked around frantically for them until I remembered how the staff had dissappeared after I had dropped it.

'That's it,' I thought, 'It just... dissapeares. Unless...'

I thought about the staff apearing in my hand. Suddenly it grew out of my hand as a flaming staff. I jumped and almost dropped the staff. I smiled, so I could summon it on command. This thing was just getting better and better.

I gripped the staff's middle and pulled it apart, turning it into two seperate swords, but this time the flames were glowing a hot red and the swords seemed like they were radiating heat.

I raised my eyebrow at Rogan.

"So these swords arn't for me, ha" I said smiling, "I think there alright."

Rogan just nodded his head, still gaping.

"What?" I frowned. He shouldn't be this surprised. Unless he was expecting me to have less skill.

Rogan shook his head, breaking the trance, "How did you...?"

"How did I what?" I said smiling. I was not expecting the answer I got.

"You were fighting people, real people! They just appeared out of no where!" said Rogan, "One second you were swinging your swords, pretending to fight an enemy, when you suddenly were! Did you cast a spell or something?"

"No," I shook my head. I was completely confused, wasn't I just fighting things in my imagination.

"Then how were you fighting soldiers that appeared out of no where!" He said.

"I don't know, but I defeated them all, and I did pretty well," I said, trying to change the subject.

Rogan was about to say something, then stopped, "You did do pretty well. I guess you can keep the swords, you were fluent enough."

I smiled.

"Could I just try them again," said Rogan, he was back to focusing on the current project.

I handed him the swords. He gripped them awkwardly and swung. Suddenly he let go of the two swords and yelped in pain.

I frowned, "What's wrong?"

"Those swords are exctremely hot!" he said, grimacing in pain.

I picked them up. They were slightly warm, but otherwise alright.

"Rogan?" I said, "These swords are fine, a little bit warm but otherwise alright. Are you feeling alright?"

Rogan nodded and frowned.

"That's what it is!" he suddenly yelled.

I jumped back in surprise, had Rogan completely lost his mind?

"I have heard of these types of swords before," said Rogan, "They are made so that they only have one owner per generation. They are magically engeneared to that person and only that person can hold them. It's quite fasintating how they did the magic over these swords."

I remebered then what he was talking about. The king also had a sword like these two, but it had dark powers instead of fire, that's what I think mine is anyway.

"These are the twin swords Igni and Raze," said Rogan, "I never new that they existed. Funny how they were in our blacksmith."

I smiled and looked back to my swords and whispered, "Igni and Raze."

The two swords glowed brighter as I said their names. The king realy had it in for him now.

I looked back to Rogan, "Are we going to the dragon eggs now."

Rogan smiled, "So eager, just don't be disappointed if you don't get one."

I nodded, I knew how rare it was for someone to get a dragon. I looked for somewere I could store Igni and Raze, then I remembered that they dissaperead when I threw them down in staff form. I attached the sword hilts together and the twins became one as a long fire staff. I dropped the staff and before it even touched the growned it dissaperead. I brushed my hands and started walking towards the dragon eggs.

"Come on!" I yelled, "We haven't got all day."

Rogan shook his head and ran after me.

The dragon cave was another place on the side of the mountain, but this time it was a natural formation in the rock, the bad thing was it was a slightly harder to get to then the blacksmith. We had to climb down a rock wall with hand holds carved in the sides before climbing along a dangerously narrow path. I don't mind hights but when your walking down an extremely narrow path with a cliff to one side and a three hundred foot drop on the other, anyone would be scared.

After what seemed like an hours of scaring myself to death, we finally made it to the cave. There were two guards with there spears crossed over the cave entrance. These gaurds weren't human. They were actually immortal suits of armour that were sworn to keep the eggs safe. The gaurds armour was completely gold, but it was somewhat camoflarged into the rocks, I have no idea how, but they are.

One look from Rogan and they took there spears apart. He pulled me through into a cavern with a wooden door at one end.

He put his hands on my shoulder.

"Remeber, don't be disappointed if you don't get a dragon, it raraly happens," he said, "and try no to break any eggs."

I smiled at the joke, dragon eggs were nearly impossible to break, one time Derrick accidentily road a storage carrage over one and the wheel came off.

I opened the door and walked in, Rogan followed. For some reason I felt dizzy, maybe because of the fightning, or even climbing to the cave. I looked around. Dragon eggs in all different colours were all lined along the wall of the cave. They went for as far as I could see in the darkness. I walked to the natural shelf, holding the dragon eggs.

"Now, just go along...." I cut Rogan off.

"Until you feel that the egg is the one for you, I know,' I said, I practically made it up.

I didn't say the last part to Rogan. I started walking along the row, touching random eggs but nothing came to me. It took me ten minutes of walking when I finally saw the end of the cave. Rogan was following silently behind me, his footsteps echoed of the cave walls. I reached the end of the wall and sighed, no dra.... wait!. I felt something, it was like I tug, something drawing me to something. I walked to the other side of the cave.

"It's ok," said Rogan, "As I said, 'not everyo....."

I put up my hand to silence him. I heard him sigh and start to walk over to me. There was a hole in the wall. I knelt down adn put my hand into the hole.

"Look," said Rogan, "I'm sorry you didn't get a dragon but..."

This time I didn't silence him. He was staring at the object in my hand. A dragon egg, but this one was different, it had all these different colours on it. All the colours were dark, there was dark green, dark blue, dark yellow and brown.

"This is the one," I said.

Suddenly a crack appeared in it's shell. I looked up at Rogan and smiled. He smiled back.

The egg burst open and I fell back. A weight landed on my stomach. I looked down and saw a baby dragon. It was the same colour as the egg it had been in and had four legs, all with four sharp talons on them. It's small head was pointed and it had small wings on its back. A tail came from its back and on the tip of it was a sharp barb that could peice through the best armour.

It looked up at me, It's big eyes full of wonder and excitement. I picked it up and held it at eye level.

"Reflamen," I said to the dragon, "Your name is Reflamen."

That was when the dizzyness hit me full on. I swayed once and fainted.
