Chapter 34: Ready to Fight
It was late on the second day when the Resistance finally broke through the second wall. As the walls crumbled the Resistance charged in, meeting little resistance. It seemed all the guards had retreated. The two allied armies charged right towards the third wall.
This wall was the strongest of the four. It was made of iron sheets and was very well fortified. The guards at the top started firing there crossbows at the Resistance. I looked behind the wall and saw the entire kings army getting ready for battle. There were thousands of them, all cramped in one space. Even the walls were crowded.
I smiled, 'I'm going to thin out there numbers a bit.'
'Aah... Derrick,' said Reflamen, 'I don't think that is such a good idea.'
I ignored him. I then sent a lightning strike into the midst. At least twenty soldiers died at the strike, and the surrounding fifty were all injured. Soldiers ran from the area the lightning strike hit, pushing there neighbours to get through.
I laughed. I then imagined one of the nearby buldings to fall over, crushing a bunch of soldiers trying to get through.
"Derrick!' said Reflamen, 'Stop this at once!'
I stopped.
'Look,' said Reflamen, 'I know you're trying to help the Resistance, but killing helpless people isn't the way to do it.'
I was surprised at what Reflamen said, to say the least.
'Why don't you control one of the worries on the other side of the wall and fight like that instead,' said Reflamen, 'Then they at least have a chance.'
'You're right Reflamen,' I said, 'Sorry, I shouldn't have done that.'
I was now feeling very guilty. I sighed.
'I'll go and have a look at how Derrick and Rogan are doing,' I said.
'Good idea,' said Reflamen.
I transported myself to where Derrick and Rogan were. They were now in the middle of a storage place. They were waiting for a signal to go up that the king was distracted, but for some reason it hadn't come yet.
All the men in with them didn't help, and the fact that Rogan was holding the staff didn't help either. He kept on accendentally sticking it into the backs of his men. Derrick had gone somewhere, probably to spy on the king, and they were just sitting it out.
I looked into the hallway, there were no guards at all, except the ones dead around the door to the store room.
'I'll make sure these guys don't get seen,' I said to Relfamen.
I imaginered a strong wind that flowed into the hallway. The wind picked up the bodies and chucked them out a near by window and into a pond, where they sunk to the bottom.
'That's better,' said Reflamen, 'Do more stuff like that. Now, are you going to break down that wall?'
'No,' I said, 'I'll let the Resistance deal with that, and if it's not down by the time I join you I'll destroy it then, but only then.'
'Okay then,' said Reflamen.
I got an image of him stretching out in Leivites clearing. I laughed, 'You look like a big cat.'
Reflamen seemed to shrug.
I focused back on the battle. The Resistance was again taking refuge in nearby buildings. They were now sitting down to have dinner. They cleaned there weapons and talked heroicly about the things they had done so far, and boasted about how well they fought. A few were taking a nap, they probably hadn't slept for the past two days, and they were exhausted.
I noticed that all the men had a supply of those energy beans. One by one they took there own, swollowing quickly. The allied army didn't have any, so they just sat down and started cleaning their weapons.
I sighed and looked back over to the king's army, then back to our own. Not much was happening, but it was really funny to see some of the kings men trip over each other, it happened quite a lot.
Eventually the sun came up again, the third day since the battle started, that ment that I was going back to that world the after. The Resistance and their allies were getting ready for another big attack. The allies had their big ladders and the Resistance had their catapults, not that they would do much. They all got together in small groups, getting ready for the sudden charge.
A few of the allied soldiers had gotten to the roofs, where they started shooting at the men on the wall. Every arrow hit what they aimed at.
'They are very good archers,' said Relflamen.
'I know,' I said.
I noticed the messanger man, from the first day, among the archers. He was by far the best, shooting with deadly accuracy and speed. I suddenly thought of something. I imaginered some of the arrows to be explosive. The archer reached for one. He took it out and shot, causing a big explosion. He didn't look surprised in the least.
'Hey, why isn't he worried at all,' said Reflamen.
'Because a gave him the memories and skills he needed to fire those arrows,' I said.
The archer went through another lot of normal arrows before he let loose another explosive one.
'How many explosives does he have?' said Reflamen.
'He can choose wether or not the arrow he chooses is explosive or not,' I replied
The battle went on. With the occassional explosion on the walls, either from a dragon, magic, or the man's arrows. I watched as Charole lead a small attack of dragons from above. They swooped down, breathing fire at the men on the wall. The soldiers were quickly burnt up, but more replaced them and started firing at the dragons. Lilly dodged one giant arrow, then another. She started swurving from side to side, trying to get away from the large crossbow bolts.
The others in the group weren't so lucky. A dark blue dragon at the back was squired in the neck by one of the bolts, after it went straight through his rider. Lilly started to go skyward, but the men on the walls just kep firing. Another rider was taken down, his dragon shot in the back, breaking its spine.
I was getting angry.
'Come on Charole,' I thought.
Another arrow was released. It flew in a giant ark... straight towards Lilly. Lilly didn't even know it was coming and just kept flying upwards, trying to get above the aim. I saw it was hopeless.
'Lilly!' I yelled as loud as I could with my mind, 'Swerve out of the way!'
Lilly seemed to look around for a second, before suddenly swurving, making the crossbow bolt fly straight through mid air, right where Lilly would have been if she had not heard.
'Who's that,' she said.
'It's Derrick,' I replied.
She faulted in surprise, 'Derrick! But I thought you had gone back to the other world.'
'I have, I'm using my imagination to see what is happening,' I said.
'Oh' siad Lilly, 'Is that why those commets keep on falling from the sky?'
'Yep,' I replied.
'Well then, thanks, I wasn't shore if we could win this battle without you,' she said.
'Just doing all I can to help,' I replied.
I then imaginered a gigantic worlwind and cast it across the wall, breaking a few of the crossbows as well as making a few men get throughn of the wall.
I smiled, 'That should keep them on their toes for a while.'
I decided to sit back a bit and watch as the Resistance soldiers and the allies try to make it over the wall, each wave was repelled easily.
It was late in the afternoon when the Resistance finally decided to draw back and into the houses again, and tried to think of ways to get through the third wall. Night started to fall and I decided to get back to Rogan and the others.
Rogan was asleep, as well as Dustan and Derrick, who had rejoined them. They were still waiting for a signal from Seltic, who was supposed to be trying to distract the king. Rogan had set up a guard while they slept, two soldiers kept watch on the door, trying to keep themselves from falling to sleep. I felt sorry for them and imaginered a white beam, which shot towards the soldiers. When it hit, they were full of energy again.
"Wow," whispered one, "What just happened?"
"I don't know," replued the other, "But I feel great!"
"Okay, okay," said the first soldier, "Keep it down, we don't want to alurt anyone of our presence."
The second soldier nodded and made a zipping motion across his lips.
"Good," said the first soldier again.
They then went back to standing still.
I went back outside to where the battle was, and waited. It took forever but the sun finally started to rise.
'Okay Reflamen,' I said, 'It's time for us to get ready, start warming up, I'll get out of this trance and start to warm up myself.'
'Good idea,' said Reflamen.
I nodded and everything went black. I opened my eyes and found myself still in my room with my legs crossed. I stretched them out and groaned.
'What's wrong?' said Reflamen.
'Nothing,' I replied, 'Just a little bit of a cramp in my legs, probably from sitting cross legged for so long.'
'Probably,' laughed Relfamen.
I stretched my legs until they cracked, good and loud. I made my way to the door and opened it. Everything seemed normal. It was only six in the morning so no one was awake. I crept into the kitched as quietly as I could, not wanting to wake anyone up. I stopped as I saw someone at the table.
"Mum?" I said.
She looked up and her eyes widened when she saw me, "Derrick! You're back!"
I smiled and braced myself for the hug that Rena gave me. I almost collapsed when she did. She noticed.
"What's wrong sweat heart?" said Rena.
"Nothing," I said, "Just a bit of cramped up legs from sitting crosslegged for so long.
Rena's eyes lit up in understandment.
"Well the, I know you have a big day ahead of you, so get started," she said.
I smiled.
"I'll get breakfast ready," she said.
"Thanks mum," I said.
I began to make my way to the door, "I'll be back after a quick run."
I opened the door and pulled on my sandles, then started to jogging down the driveway. My jog only took about three minutes, but it was enough to get my legs warmed up again. I sat down and waited for breakfast. When it was ready I wolfed it down, then asked for seconds, I hadn't eaten in three days, so I was very hungry.
By the time I had finished breakfast my siblings had woken up.
"Derrick!" said Jay, "You're... back."
I smiled, "Yes, I am, but I'll fall unconscious again by miday, so I guess I'll spend what little time I can with you."
The rest of my siblings got up and ate breakfast. I spent the reast of the day until twelve hanging out with them, and helping them with any extra homework that my mum told them to do. The storm was still going outside so I didn't want to go out, especially after that morning run, it was freezing out there.
As twelve o'clock came by I fainted again, after saying good by to my family. As I sank into darkness I had a sudden thought.
'That might work,' I said.
When I wole up again I found myself in Leivites tent, staring at some sough of magical canvous that allowed you to see the stars, even during daylight. I got up and made my way outside, where Leivite and Reflamen were gathered around the mirror, looking at the battle.
"Hey guys," I said.
They both jumped when they heard my voice.
"Derrick," said Leivite, "About time you woke up. The Resistance are having a bad time, they need your help."
"And I'll be there," I said, "I just need to get ready."
I ran over to my tent with Relfamen flying over head.
'We finally get to fight,' said Reflamen with glee.
'I know, can't wait,' I said.
I ran into my tent a hurridly strapped on my leather armour and sword.
'Why the sword,' said Relfamen.
'It might be useful,' I replied.
Reflamen seemd to shrug.
I got outside and saw Reflamen standing with his wings spread, waiting to take off. I noticed he had a saddle.
'Nice saddle,' I said.
'Thankyou,' replied Relfamen.
'Now, before we lift off, I want to do something with you,' I said.
'Aaah okay,' said Reflamen.
I walked up to Reflamenand place my hand on his side. I imaginered a sudden pulse of white energy to shoot from my hand and ingolf Reflamen.
'What was that?' said Relfamen.
'A gift,' I said.
I swung myself onto Relfamen's saddle.
'Let's get going!' I said.
Relfamen took one big flap and we were off into the air, and speeding towards the battle.
'We're coming for you Oreman,' I said with my mind.
