Chapter 33: The Resistance Pushes Forward
The army marched over towards the city, making the ground shake with there numbers. They sent a messanger out of there forces to meet with the Resistance base. The messanger was riding a brown horse, and he had leather clothing along with a bow strapped to his back. As the horse ran the man on its back pulled out his bow, then an arrow, then shot at one of the guards on the walls, taking him out from almost five hundred metres.
He made it to the camp without being shot at.
"Who are you?" said the Resistance member at the camp.
"We are here to help," said the rider, "We heard about this king and have come from across the seas to see him defeated."
The Resistance member frowned, "How did you know we were attacking today?"
"We were told," said the rider, "From a voice in the sky. It echoed down and told us that you needed our help."
The Resistance man said, "Must of been a dragon or something."
"What?" said the rider.
"Doesn't matter," said the Resistance man, "We will be glad for your help. Hey Dustan."
Dustan came waltzing over.
"Tell your dragon to spread the word that reinforcements are on the way," said the man.
He looked back to the rider, "Make sure you don't shoot down any of the dragons with the riders that have leather armour, and don't shoot the black one either. Aim for the riders with the chainmail, and the two forked trident on there armour."
The man nodded, "I will spread the word."
He ran out of the tent and and got back onto his horse. He whipped out his bow again and shot another guard on the wall. He rode up to the commander of his army.
The commander was a big burly man. His arms were as hard a rocks and he had so many scars on him he was hardly recognised as a human. He was, however, a very smart man, and had the ability to lead an army into battle without fear, and he had never lost a fight.
As the messanger told him what was going on the commander nodded to every word. When the messanger finished he relayed the information to his army with a big booming voice. He then yelled CHARGE, and they were on there way, into the battle.
I looked up from the exchange and went back to the main battle.
'Well that's sorted,' I said.
The Resistance was supposed to have this army by there side, so I didn't feel guilt about doing it, however, Oreman's army was still larger then both forces combined. It was now Dustan's turn to do something about it. I imagined the seen going on at the messanger tent.
"Dustan," said the Resistance man that had been talking with him before, "It's time."
Dustan nodded and ran over to his dragon, Oceania. He jumped onto her back.
"Okay guys, it's time," he said.
I imagined as a small group of ten dragons lifted of from the Resistance base. Each one had three soldiers and a rider sitting on top of them, making a force of fourty all together. They flew high over the battle and towards the kings castle.
Rogan, who was busy fighting two other riders and there dragons, saw them flying towards the castle. Sophire let out a loud roar, directed at Shadowrang, and together they rose out of the battle and towards the ten riders above. Shadowrang dove in from the side and smashed into one of the dragons trailing Sophire.
Sophire said something to Shadowrang. Shadowrang swerved out of the way just as Sophire let out a ferocious burst of blue fire at the dragon following Shadowrang. The dragon screamed in pain and flayled helplessly before falling back into the city.
Shadowrang and Sophire joined up with the riders at the top.
I went back to the new army from across the sees. They had just reached the wall and had litteraly smashed into it like battering rams. Most people in the army had either spears, axes or maces, so when they hit the wall, they swung with all there might. The already weak wall just toppled over and smashed itself into rubble, along with the guards at the top. The army began to make there way into the blackened streets, killing anyone who got in there way, besides the Resistance of course.
The Resistance let out cheers and they started to advance along with the army. The messanger was with a group of archers, who were jumping from roof to roof. They occasionally stopped, and with perfect unison and accuracy, let out a volly of arrows. Miraculously none of the arrows ever hit one of the Resistance, even with them all moving around.
Hundreds of dragons fell to the deadly arrows, allowing the Resistance riders to start to advance. I smiled, this was going to get better and better. I went back to the riders who were advancing on the king's castle, to find they were surrounded in about thirteen other dragons. They were on a stale mate, neither willing to make the first move.
The soldiers on the back of the Resistance dragons all had bows, and they had them all drawn. Suddenly they all released at once on the dragons. The arrows just bounced of harmlessly.
'Okay, time to do something about that,' I said.
I imaginered a force field around the Resistance riders, then created a very high wind around them. The enemy dragons started flapping furiously, trying to keep themselves from being blown away. I made the wind suddenly swirl around the force field, then spread out in a rapidly expanding gale. All the dragons were blown away and they fell out of the sky. The Resistance riders looked around in surprise.
"What just happened?" one of them said.
"Did someone cast a spell?" someone else said.
All eyes turned to Derrick and Rogan. Derrick shook his head, "Wasn't us."
I almost laughed then, this probably didn't happen often.
"Well lets get going," said Rogan, "We'll dwell on it later."
The dragons started to wing there way towards the castle.
'Don't get to inolved,' said Reflamen, 'They might begin to suspect something.'
'I'll try no to,' I replied.
I turned my attention back towards the battle on the ground. The new army was a real saviour. They had started to push back the kings forces so far that they had made a few of them retreat to a better protective point.
The city had four walls. The Resistance had broken past the outer wall and were now trying to get through the second wall. The second wall was slightly higher then the first and was made out of stronger meterial. It also had defences, unlike the first wall.
One of the guards got onto a seet to a giant crossbow on the wall. He had three friends with him. Two of them pulled back the string, one layed a giant bolt into it, and the other fighed, it was as simple as that.
The bolts caused a huge amount of damage. Every time they hit at least three or four Resistance members were killed. The other army had brang large laders to scale the walls. They layed the ladders onto the walls and started to climb up. The guards on the top saw what was happening and started to panic. One of the more calm ones ran over to one of the ladders and pushed it off the wall. The soldiers on the ladders cried out in alarm and as they fell back onto there own team mates.
A few of the soldiers went up to the walls and started hacking at them with there battle axes, but were soon shot down from above by a guard. The Resistance were all forced to take cover in houses, along with their allies.
I sighed and went back to the riders flying towards the castle. What normally took a dragon less then a minute to reach took three hours for them. They had to constantly retreat from the giant crossbow bolts being fired fromt he castle. Derrick took out each one with a blast of shadow with his sword, but there were so many protecting the castle that it was almost impossible to get in. They circle the castle for hours, trying to find a safe place to land, no even with Dustan helping them. 'Time for me to jump in,' I thought.
I made another commet fall from the sky and smashe into the wall, decimating three of the crossbows. It may have not been much, but it was enough. Derrick, Rogan and the others all swooped down to the break in the wall and under all the other crossbows. They landed in a small courtyard that was full of guards, well when they landed the courtyard was full of dead guards.
The soldiers jumped of there dragons and put there bows away and drew there swords. Derrick summoned his shadow blade. The dragons waited until everyone was off there back then they lifted off. They flew back through the gap they had come through and flew back into the open, out of range of the crossbow bolts.
Derrick and his company started to make there way into the castle, with Dustan leading them. Seltic met them there. He was slighlty surprised to see them but when Derrick explained the situation Seltic nodded his head.
"Okay then, I will try and bide you some time," said Seltic.
Derrick nodded his head in thanks. The group made there way into the castle.
I looked up at the sky, dawn was breaking, to more days and I will be able to help, just survive to more days.
