Chapter 26: Everything Falls Apart
Reflamen and I landed at the Resistance, along with the rest of the riders. Derrick and Shadowrang brought back the few that had remaned incased with shadow. I took a quick look at the ones who where captured to see if any of them were anyone important, thankfully, none were.
'That was very strange,' I thought to Reflamen.
'You're right about that,' said Reflamen, 'Maybe you did imagine it but forgot, or something?'
'No, I would definitly remember a battle like this,' I replied.
'Then I'm completely lost,' said Reflamen.
I nodded, trying to think of an explanation. I was then intereupted by a large crash on the ground. I spun around to see a blue dragon, on the flaw with Sophire holding it down, and she had the rider in her jaw, being careful no to crush him.
'Oh great,' I thougth as I recognised the rider.
"LET ME GO!" yelled Dustan as he struggled in Sophire's jaw, "I'm here to help you, you stupid dragon!"
Sophire snarled and increased the preasure of her jaw. Dustan immediatly stopped struggling. Rogan was on Sophire's back. He jumped off and landed on the floor beside Sophire's right front leg. He walked up to the blue dragon, Oceania.
"Who are you?" said Rogan.
"Where here to help, you we are betraying the king!" said Dustan.
Rogan ignored him and looked at the sea blue dragon. Oceania looked up at Dustan, then back at Rogan. I closed my eyes and started to imagine the comversation.
'I'm Oceania and this is my rider, Dustan,' said Oceania to Rogan.
"Okay then, why are you here?" asked Rogan.
'We are here because we wanted to betray the king. He has been treating us very badly, and he killed my rider's family. When he wanted an egg he snuck into the palace and started trying the eggs. I hatched for him just as the guards found him. They took us before the king and when he saw that I had hatched for Dustan he made us follow him. Dustan tried to resist, but when the king threatened to kill me, he had no choice. The king then made a collar for me, and made it so that if Dustan and I ever betray him, he can activate the colour and make it kill me,' replied Oceania, 'Can you please take the collar off, or have someone take it off?'
Oceania was pleading with Rogan. Rogan reached for the collar.
'Stop!' shouted Oceania, 'If you touch it you die!'
Rogan instantly drew his hand away from the collar, "Then how do you suppose we get it off?"
'Try to use magic,' said Oceania.
Rogan put out his hand and cast a spell of will on the collar, trying to make it shatter. When that didn't work he tried and darkness spell, because that was what the collar was made of, but he wasn't very good with darkness spells, so it did nothing. He cried out in frutration.
I opened my eyes and stopped imagining the conversation.
"Hey Rogan, let me have a go," I said.
Rogan looked up at his work from the collar.
"Sure," said Rogan, "But be careful."
I smiled and walked over to the collar.
'Hey! I know you, you were the boy who flew over the city on that colourful dragon last night!' said Oceania.
'I know,' I relied.
I closed my eyes and put my hand to the collar. I then imagined it to dissapear in a cloud of darkness. When I opened my eyes the collar wasn't there.
'That worked,' I thought.
Oceania was looking at me in complete surprise, and so was Dustan, who was still trapped in Sophire's jaw.
'How did you do that?' exclaimed Oceania.
I smiled, 'It's a secret.'
I walked back over to Reflamen. He was looking at me in surprise, but not the surprise the other's were about.
'Why did you do that?' said Reflamen, 'It could change the course of this worlds future.'
'I know that Reflamen,' I replied, 'But if I didn't those two would have died in a few more moments. The course of the future has already changed and I have no idea what will happen next. Dustan and Oceania aren't even exsposed to be here, that battle wasn't exsposed to happen. I don't know what is going on, maybe me being here is changing the cause of the future, I just hope that nothing else like this will happen.'
'You think it will?' said Reflamen.
'Yes, Reflamen I do,' I replied, ' Now that Dustan is here it could probably stuff everything up, but now, now I'm just going to have to everything to help.'
'Okay Derrick,' said Reflamen, 'Whatever you say, but be careful.'
I smiled at him, 'Don't be a worry wart.'
I looked around to see Dustan on the floor, covered in dragon slime. He got up and flicked the goop of his hands.
"Discusting," he said.
He cast a water spell and made a whole heep of water poor down on him from nowhere, getting all the slobber of his clothes.
"That's better," he said.
Sophire let Oceania up. Oceania stood and stretched. She then shook herself.
"Now come with me," said Rogan, "I'm bringing you to the council."
I widened my eyes, 'On no, not why Villain is there.'
I started to run after the two. Derrick had seen the worry in my eyes and started to rush after me. He caught up very quickly.
"What's wrong?" he said.
"No time to explain," I replied, "But we need to stop Villain from seeing Dustan."
"What? Why?" said Derrick.
"Because we have to!" I said.
Before Derrick could reply we reached Dustan and Rogan.
"Stop!" I said.
Both Dustan and Rogan turned around and looked at me in surprise.
"Derrick, what's the meaning of this," said Rogan.
"Look, Rogan, we need to stop Villain from seeing Dustan," I said.
"What? Why?" asked Rogan.
'Deja vu,' I thought, "Look, Villain is a spy for the king, if he finds out that Dustan is here, he will try to activate the collar, and when he finds he can't, he will come looking for us."
Rogan frowned, "Are you sure? Because..."
"Villain's here!" interupted Dustan, "Oh this is bad, this is very bad."
Rogan looked at Dustan in surprise, "What do you mean?"
"Look, Villain is a very powerful man. He has a grey dragon, almost like Leren, but he is far suprerior in magic, almost as powerful as the king. If he is here, then we are all doomed."
Rogan was speechless.
"Can you prove this?" said Derrick.
Dustan hesitated for a moment, "No, but you have to believe me!"
Derrick looked at Dustan with his eyes narrowed.
"I can," I said, getting tired of all the arguments.
They all looked towards me.
"And how would you do this?" said Derrick.
"Let me have a crack at his mind," I said smiling.
'What!' said Reflamen.
"That's impossible, no one has ever broken into his mind before, not even the king!" said Dustan.
"Trust me," I said, "Breaking into his mind won't be a problem. You don't need to warn me about anything Dustan, I already no all the tricks he uses and how he protects his mind. Rogan, when I do you and Derrick enter his mind and see what he has. If your not satisfied, then I'll give you a million drakons."
Both Derrick and Rogan looked at me in surprise.
"Okay," said Rogan.
We started to make our way toward the council tent.
"How do you know so much about Villain?" said Dustan.
I smiled at him, "That's a secret."
Dustan frowned, "You have a lot of secrets."
"I know," I said.
"Also, is you name really Gabe?" said Dustan.
"No," I replied laughing, "My names Derrick."
"Wow," said Dustan, "Two Derricks."
"I know," I replied, "It can get confusing."
We reached the tent and Rogan went in without us.
"Dustan," said Derrick, "You stay out here. We'll handle this."
Dustan nodded.
"Derrick and Derrick," yelled Rogan, "You can come in now."
I smiled at the way he said our names. I walked inside with Derrick.
"Say what you have come to say," said Rogan.
I looked around the council for Villain. I spotted him at the very corner of the room. He seemed to be in a trance like state, although I knew he was watching us very closely. He noticed me looking at him, but I didn't look away.
"Villain is a traiter," I said, the words seemed to slide of my toung.
Everyone went quiet and Villain's eyes seemed to widen in surprise. He launched an attack on my mind, a very strong attack, but I easily brushed it away.
"Can you prove this?" said one of the other councilers.
I nodded, "I'll break his mind."
Leivite was looking at me with no surprise, but a vague sense of concern. Everyine else erupted into choas. I reached out my mind towards Leivite. He felt me touch his mind and let me in.
'What are you doing?' said Leivite.
Instead of explaining I should him all the images that had happened in the past few hours.
'Okay, I'll side with you on this one,' said Leivite, 'At least you know what you're doing.'
I nodded then, amidst the chaos and launched and attack on Villain's mind. I also started to imagine. I imagined that when I got into Villains mind there was darkness everywhere, seeking to trap me forever. It was a swirling cloud that seemed to go on and on. I imagined myself as a fire spear, tearing through the darkness. Villain tried to send monsters at me but they were just incinerated by the spear. I then imagine the spear to explode and destroy the darkness surrounding Villains mind, leaving his mind wide open.
'Now,' I called mentally to Rogan and Derrick.
We all surged into his mind and found all his memories. I saw him talking to the king, agreeing to spy on us. Getting the order to kill me. Finding all our secrets and relaying it all to the king. I stopped Villain from recreating his barriers while Rogan and Derrick imobilised him. Eventually Rogan withdrew and Derrick kep hold of him, while I held his mind open.
"Villain is guilty," said Rogan, "He has been relaying all our information to the king. He has betrayad us all."
Everyone, who had gone silent eventually, was now chaos again. I felt a few people go into his mind and see what we had seen. Suddenly I felt Villain gathering a massive amount of energy.
'Get out,' I yelled to anyone in Villains mind, 'Now!'
My mental voice seemed to echo through Villains mind. I let go of his mind and returned to my body, just like everyone else. I then closed my eyes and imagined. I imagined Villain releasing all that energy on a darkness spell designed to swallow everyone in the tent. I imagined myself putting up my hand and unleashing a beam of white light into the darkness, cutting through it like a knife through butter. I then imagined the light to swirl around the darkness and inclose in on it, making it grow smaller and smaller until it was gone. Then the light trapped Villain in a ball, keeping him there, and making his spells usless.
I opened my eyes and instantly closed them again, the light was bright. I made the light dim a bit, enough so everyone could see, but that didn't make it any less powerful. I opened my eyes again. Everyone was looking at me in surprise. I couldn't blame them. Blocking a spell that powerful was almost impossible.
I looked towards Villain.
"So, what do we do with him?" I asked.
