Chapter 18: The power of thought

I went to sleep late that night. Mum and Dad had kept me up, asking hundreds of questions about what I could do and how I did it. I even had to show them Ignite and Raze, my twin swords. In other words, I was very tired.

Derrick had also had questioning from the council about his Forbidden blade. They didn't through him out of the resistance, and actually put him on another mission, letting him go out and capture and ancient magical item that might help them with defeating the king. Which I, of course, already new.

That night I collapsed onto my bed, exhausted. Reflamen was also still awake, he had moved my body in the other world to my tent.

'So,' I said.

Reflamen shuffled a bit, 'I wish you could still be in this world. It would be a lot easier to cope with.'

'I know, but I still want to see my parents, the only problem I have is when I faint in the middle of the battle, like today,' I said.

'Yes, I was actually very afraid of what would happen,' said Reflamen, 'There is one thing I don't understand. At one point, an arrow shot though the doorway and went straight for you, but just as it was about to hit you the arrow bounced of you, like you were shielded. Another time, that traitor guy, what's his name?'

'Villain,' I replied.

'Yes, him,' said Reflamen, 'He tried to stab you with a knife, but just before the knife hit you, Villain seemed to convulse, then he fainted. Sadly he's still alive.'

'Did anyone notice him do it?' I asked.

'Not that I could see,' replied Reflamen,' Everyone thought he got hit by a piece of magic, or something like that.'

'That's interesting, the shield thing I mean,' I said, 'I didn't happen the last few times, did it?'

'Not that I could see, but then again no one has ever tried to hurt you when you've been asleep,' said Reflamen.

'Good point,' I said, 'Maybe the sheild runs along the lines of 'if anyone means harm, they get zapped' or something like that.'

I felt Reflamen smile, 'Maybe it does at that.'

I yawned.

'You should get some sleep,' said Reflamen, 'You have been through a lot today, I hope you get back soon.'

'You know when I'm getting back,' I said, smiling.

With that we both went to sleep, basically at the same time.

The next morning I woke up later then I usaully do, I usually wake up around seven, in this world anyway, but I had slept in until about nine o'clock, which ment I had slept through my alarm, which goes on for about ten minutes before it stops.

I layed in bed for the next few moments.

'School!' I remembered.

I shot out of bed at top speed. I was very late, school started at eight fourty.

"Mum! Dad!" I yelled, "Are you there?"

'Morning sleepy head,' said Reflamen.

'Morning,' I replied, hurridly searching for my school clothes.

'You know, it's a saturday, right,' said Reflamen.

'Yeah,' I was still looking around for my clothes, they should of been on my bed.

'What days do you have school again?' said Reflamen.

I stopped. It was saturday, which meant no school, and no annoying alarm.

'Fail,' laughed Reflamen.

'Yeah, whatever,' I said, 'It's not like I keep track of what the day is.'

Reflamen kept laughing. I ignored him and went out to the breakfast table. My siblings were already up, eating breakfast.

"Morning Derrick," said the boy twin, Cohan.

"Morning," I replied.

"Have a good sleep?" said the female twin, Jasmine, or Jassy as we call her.

"Yep," I said.

I sat at the table and poored myseld a cup bowl of Cheerios. It seemed like forever since I had last done this.

"Where's mum and dad?" I asked.

"Mum's at her job and Dad's to the beach," replied Jay, "Dad should be back soon.'

I nodded. I ate the rest of my breakfast. Then sat back in my chair.

"So, what you guys want to do?" I asked.

"Don't know," replied Jay.

So we sat there, waiting for our dad to come home. Jay pulled out his I'pod and started playing it. Cohan and Jasmine started to watch him.

I sighed and got up. I walked outside, to our 'backyard' which I though of as our frontyard.

We lived on a 'battle axe' block. Which ment our house was built behind another house, with a driveway leading up to it, making the shape mildly like a battle axe. Our house had a blue, slanted roof with orange walls. The roof was made out or tin and didn't have a gutter, which was very annoying when it rained. The backyard was where our driveway was. Out the front we had a park, with a small playground at one side.

At the back there was also a grassy patch, which was where we usaully did our normal exercise, like hitting a ball onto the roof or playing hockey. I cast a spell on the door, using will, and closed it, making it so that it would warn me of when someone opened or closed it. I also cast a spell on the driveway, warning me of when my mum or dad came back.

I then closed my eyes, summoning energy from within me. I just hoped that the lawn wouldn't be to badly damaged after my magic training. I pluck a leaf from a nearby bush with will then set it on fire, watching it burn up. I then cast a water spell. Making a waterball form in the air, using the water vapour in the air. I through it up in the air then shot a lighting bolt  at the ball. Making it explode.

'Hope no one saw that,' I thought.

'I don't think any body saw it, but people definitly heard it, you would have to be deaf not to here an explosive noise like that,' said Relfamen.

'Do you have to reply to every thought I think?' I said.

Reflamen didn't get a chance to anwser as the door opened and Jay, Cohan and Jasmine rushed outside.

"Hey, are you alright?" said Jay, "We heard a gunshot."

"Yeah, I'm alright," I said, "But that sounded really close."

'Told you people would hear it,' said Reflamen.

'Shut up,' I said.

"That was scary," said Jasmine.

I smiled at her, 'There's nothing to worry about."

We all stood there for a few moments, trying to here another gunshot. I just played along.

I found myself drifting or into my thoughts again. Since we were just talking about gunshots I started to imagine a man, running across the huge water reserve next to our house. He was running across the a stretch of land to our house. The police were hot on his tail, yelling at him to stop. The man had a bullet proof vest on, as well as a machine gun in one hand and a desert eagle in the other.

He turned around and shot again at the police with his pistol. BANG!

The shot echoed througout the neighbourhood, snapping me out of my thought. The bang was followed by the sound of hundreds of mini bangs. There were footsteps running towards our house.

"Stop!" shouted a voice from the other side of the fence.

Suddenly a man dressed in black clothing jumped over the fence, a really high jump. I stared, that was the man that I had just been imagining about. He saw us and pointed his guns up.

"Now, no funny business," said the man, "Your going to help me get out of this mess."

He walked up to us, "Stand right there."

We complied, I didn't want to use magic on the guy, it might cause him to shoot. Suddenly he reached out and grabbed Jasmine.

"Jassy!" called Jay, he started to run at the man.

"Stay right there!" shouted the man pointing his machine gun at Jay.

Jay stopped and slowly stepped back.

The man then pointed his desert eagle at Jasmine's head.

"Now let's get going little girl," said the man.

I was getting angry, I didn't care who this man was but I wasn't going to let him get away. I closed my eyes and started to imagine. I imagined the man starting to walk down the driveway with Jasmine in a headlock, and his gun pointed at her head. I the imagined my fist starting to glow a dull green.

I opened my eyes and thrust my hand forward. The man was blasted into the fence to the neighbours. Jasmine just stood there suprised.

I ran over to the man, and before he could recover, I kicked both of his guns away then punched the man in the face, hard. The man groaned, I punched him again and again, until he was unconscious.

Suddenly a policeman fell over the fence. He was followed by another, then another. They all had there guns drawn. I was standing over the man's body, I looked at the policeman, who were just staring at me, and my siblings who were looking at me, surprise all over their face.

They looked exactly like I had imagined.

'What is going on?' I thought.
